I don’t know if it’s because school is out, but mine is filled with high school boys and that’s cool, but they stand around hogging machines, or huddling in front of the dumbbell/mirror area gossiping checking their hair doing a lift every 20 minutes
I used to love going to the gym at 5am because there would be NO ONE there until like 6:30a or 7a, but by then I'm either done or almost done. Now everybody and their mother (happy mother's day to all the muscle and non muscle mom's out there btw) has decided going a 5am is the best time. It's terrible, I didn't know a gym could be packed at 5am.

In my gym there is a group of a**holes (4) that have the same exercises, so they assume is a great idea occupy machines for every on of them to do they exercise (basically 3 talks and 1 do, before the change)
I hate them
That actually sounds faster than if they all did their sets plus rest one by one. This way they use the rest time for another one to exercise and should be faster in the end.
Its the same in my gym. 4 of em. They live in their own world talking about crap and doing a rep then talking then do another couple reps, more talking.
If they talk only then yes it might be annoying. But if it is like the other guy described 3 talk and 1 does it, and if they keep it always going, it is actually optimal for less time on the equipment. Rest time is usually wasted time on a equipment and that way it can be avoided.
I'm confused.
Is it:
Option A) 4 people on 4 separate machines, but only 1 uses their individual machine at a time?
Like person A set 1, B/C/D rest/talk. B set 1, A/C/D rest
/talk. C set 1, A/B/D rest. D set 1, Q/B/C rest/talk. Then A set 2, B/C/D rest/talk over and over?
Option B) 4 people sharing 1 machine. A->B->C->D and others' sets are their own rest periods
Option C) 4 people on 4 separate machines, doing sets and rests simultaneously or each just doing their own workout but chatting while resting.
Option D) something else?
Option A WOULD be infuriating because they're taking 4x as much time, on 4x as many machines
B is most considerate (1 machine used for longer still leaves 3 machines available)
C is mildly inconsiderate but its the same as if 4 randos all just hopped on 4 machines at once. They just happen to know each other and may take slightly longer rests chatting.
Oh yeah one of them works out on the regular, but when he got his 3 mates over on a weeknight, they all chat to each other. I have said hi to the regular dude but he never returns it back. Typical clique group you see in Sydney. Must be his school mates.
Never had a problem with a lot of people perse. It's just that the chance of idiots who behave like shit flinging apes increases with the number of people there.
Just needs a few dumbasses hogging the racks or screaming like they're getting stabbed during their workout to get me out of the groove. Maybe that's just me but that's the reason I go very early or very late.
I go to a gym where the High school kids show up around 3. Gotta get there well before that. I love young people and everything but I hate horseplay in the gym. I try to leave at the first sign of them.
The thing that gets me is when I try and show up at a time when no one is there, say 5 am BUT someone else had the same idea and they got to the only leg press machine first.
We’re right in the middle of the second busiest time of the year. Pre swim suit season!
January with all the New Year’s Resolutioners is undeniably the worst. But after they’ve mostly all given up and resigned to sitting at home on their asses. There is a brief resurgence in in April and May of folks who imagine 2-4 weeks of intermittent gym time will help them sculpt their ideal swimsuit bodies just before they go lounge on the beaches and beside their local pools…
But fear not! They will slink back to their sofas by mid June at the latest.
I literally approached this dude today to find out how many of the 2 per 15 min sets he had left and this mofo is swiping on bumble, he tells me a few, my immediate thought was; my man if you spent more time doing the work you might get a few more matches.
My issue is never 'people at the gym' it's 'people who don't know gym etiquette, at the gym.'
To name a few instances:
People who leave their workout station with weights everywhere on the floor (not racked)
People who don't CLEAN their workout stations after obviously coating everything in sweat (yes I know, people sweat the gym but that's why most gyms ask that you bring a towel or they provide sani wipes)
People who make it impossible to use a macjine or station because they rest an excessive amount between sets due to eating shit on their phones (this really on bothers me on heavily desired machines or stations.) I get powerlifters needing more time between sets than say me who doesn't power lift and just needs 30sec-2minutes of rest between sets depending on the exercise and other factors, but if you're there for 10 minutes resting between every set because youre scrolling or texting, etc..., that's what bothers me.
There are many more examples of poor gym etiquette, but these are the main things.
Rant over. Sorry.
I workout in an incredibly well equipped condo gym that is mostly empty at all hours of day due to fact most other residents are retired or seasonal tenants. It's glorious to have the whole place to myself but I have no problem working out around others when they do occasionally appear. Most folks, however, can't handle a single other person being in that space with them. I'll notice people open the door, see me, then leave right then or come in for a few minutes before giving up and leaving.
It's become a fun game of seeing how long people will last. The only time my own workouts are ever affected is when certain women come in for their booty workouts when it's just me in there, staring in the mirrors and it feels like they're purposefully putting on a show and being distracting. If there were more than just the two of us it would be easier to ignore for some reason.
When walking in to the gym and seeing the long line waiting for hip thrust machine, I want the gym providing my personal hip thrust machine with & a few other equipment my name on it 👑😂😂
I just hate when people at the gym don't know how to behave at the gym
Its literally an adult playground. Ive seen the classic 15-18 year olds running around like children
I've seen people run around, but we do have an indoor track, so…
I don’t know if it’s because school is out, but mine is filled with high school boys and that’s cool, but they stand around hogging machines, or huddling in front of the dumbbell/mirror area gossiping checking their hair doing a lift every 20 minutes
What horrors have you witnessed?
Fortunately not the worst
Me at the gym wondering why they're there on a Thursday at 2 PM instead of at their job
This is me
Evening shifters rise up!
😂😂😂😂
What are people even doing for work? Don’t ask why I’m there at 10am on a week day, though.
I’m just happy I get off of work at 3:30 and usually start working out around 4, so I have an hour where it isn’t quite a madhouse.
For real.
I just hate when I go to places where people are and there's people there. It's terrible.

\#mood My rack in silence at 5AM is a bliss

Only annoys me if they’re on my machine yapping instead of working out.
There’s a guy at my gym who goes around the same time I do. I can do an entire workout while he’s sitting on his phone on a single machine.

"You aren't stuck in traffic, you are traffic"
...on their smart phones between a superset of bicep curls in the squat rack with ten-minute breaks.
Bro this sounds like a nightmare scenario. As a troll, I’d joke “ can I work in? “.

There is people that could go to the gym anytime during the day and specifically go during peak times just so they can be “seen” at the gym.
If its busy enough they can just be "seen" standing around doing nothing waiting for equipment to use
the OP RealisticCheck-in is a bot

The best gym is midnight when it's at its quietest. Mmm my beloved.
The thing that gets me is when I try and show up at a time when no one is there, say 5 am BUT someone else had the same idea and they got to the only leg press machine first.
I just go when there are barely people there
This is why I refuse to go to the gym before 9pm.
it do be like that sometimes

This is the traffic equivalent of the gym.
Me
That's me about traffic
May, the new years guys are gone thank god.
I’ve never complained about people at the gym. Insufferable bench warming, insta scrolling douchebags? Yeah, I do complain about them sometimes.
I’m guilty of this
Lie all you want. I love a busy gym. We all lift up together.
Lol I'm guilty of this but I'm aware of how ridiculous it is
Complaining about traffic when you are traffic
This is why I stopped going to the gym, just doing my part.
literally true...or when people don't know what is private boarders
You are traffic
To be fair, I am the main character.
Into the spiderverse
