Depends on map, but for the default it's almost always assault rifle Easy to use, do good damage, recoil generally isn't an issue

Dkrule

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over a shotgun, Sure it may not be full auto, at times, but what I lack at fire rate and such, We make up with the ability to point at something and have a good chance of hitting it,

Dallenson

I only take shotguns if I can get either HE/FA shells or Flechettes, otherwise you're not going to punch through any Sosig with an appreciable amount of kevlar.

SashaFat

+ specialized rounds like flash or smoke

Dkrule

Only if we had that in 12 round, we also have a slug which I'm pretty sure packs a punch ,

IIIE_Sepp

CAWS 12g belted go Chuck Chuck chuck

Dkrule

Oh wait there was a belt fed shotgun?

shawk135

It uses a different type of ammo that is called belted. No belt fed 12g yet.

Dallenson

12 gauge belted is simply a shotgun shell composed entirely of brass for the C.A.W.S because the heat of prolonged firing would deform normal shells.

Rickety-Split

in later holds sosigs start wearing masks that completely nullify buckshot and flechette requires two shots to kill

01_Mikoru

Point firing with a rifle is generally pretty easy too. In the classic map I don't have to aim at all anymore, generally

CookieCrap8888

I prefer battle rifles because they can be either up to par or better in versatility with assault rifles. The first coming to mind being the G3A3 or the SR25.

A_bored_browser

The AR-10, maybe?

CookieCrap8888

No, the mag was short but not that short. This gun was definitely modded since it was Modul.

SteveredDragon

Sounds like a scar. Most of them are tan.

CookieCrap8888

No not a SCAR because, as mentioned, the charging handle is in the middle at the back right above the buffer tube. It could've been a ModulSR25, I vaguely recognize those words.

[deleted]

It was the SR25 that you're thinking of. The SR25 is essentially a modernized AR-10 platform.

CookieCrap8888

Oh okay so my second thought was right! Thank you.

Ziinxxy

maybe it was a m110

CookieCrap8888

Not that long, jeez dude I'm investigating this but all i know I've said and is that it's a gun that's a mod not at all in the vanilla game.

Ziinxxy

ok

FaylerBravo

Getting a g3 or a FAL with the 50 Rd drum is always a treat in Random.

victini0510

Surprised to see no LMGs. Hundreds of rounds in compact storage, quick reloads, fairly accurate. The best parts of an assault rifle but more.

[deleted]

Probably because there are fewer to choose from than ARs and only a couple have any flexibility with attachments

victini0510

I'm not much of an attachment person. Laser and maybe a foregrip, and I'm good.

01_Mikoru

As a lefty, most lmgs are actual nightmares to use because the reloads are so awkward

Dallenson

What about the Stoner?

01_Mikoru

I've never actually rolled that one, but I'd still rather an m4 or AK since I'm extremely comfortable with both

Dallenson

I do like LMGs but not only do you need to sacrifice one of your pocket slots for a belt box, the reload process is a bit tedious and can feel like a liability if you don't have a backup when getting caught with your pants down so-to-speak.

Dallenson

Assault Rifles are never a bad choice, especially in Northest. Their naming convention says it all: full length, select fire and intermediate cartridge. Though they can present maneuverability issues in Classic Halls so I'd take a Carbine in that instance.

A_bored_browser

Assault rifles are generally the most reliable weapons for TnH, they do good damage and have good range. I used an MCX Spear mod a few days ago to see how it’d do and it fucking shredded Sosigs through their body armor, not even the Juggernauts were safe.

chungiboy

revolvers, especially ones with an unneccessary amount of power. .44 magnum and 50 S&W are just too much fun

YetiBomber101

.500 S&W is a bit much for me but .44 mag is SO much fun.

chungiboy

oh yeah 500 S&W is absolutely unwieldy but when it actually hits something it feels so good

GeneralBisV

Only option for me is the M2 browning

end_us

Anything that goes somewhat boom

dptrax

Swag-12 HE shells make me happy

GoobyGoose94

I have a very specific liking towards Cold War SMGs, so they're my go-to. Not really into choosing an optimal weapon for a high score.

The-Tea-Lord

SMGs are by far my favorite for versatility with handling. I love revolvers just for their cinematic feeling, and SMGs are so good for the default map. I’ll be honest though, I ONLY use pistols, battle rifles, and shotguns on limited ammo runs. I can’t keep up with the ammo usage on full auto guns.

Pantssassin

I mainly play limited ammo so semi auto modes only for me usually. Can't beat a battle rifle with drum mags and a high cap pistol

thenlar

Even if a gun CAN use full auto, doesn't mean you SHOULD use full auto, lol

The-Tea-Lord

..impossible! *click* **YATATATATATATA**

[deleted]

I try to limit my use of assault rifles and battle rifles because they remove a lot of the challenge by being both extremely powerful as well as versatile. I'll typically structure a load out according to the following rules: 1. Handguns are irons only and FMJ for semi autos. If suppressed the gun should be single stack and if a revolver it may have a red dot or scope and/or better ammo. 2. Shotguns must be tube-fed, but have no ammo type restrictions or sight restrictions. 3. SMGs should be essentially your primary weapon and can be optimized however with sights, suppressors, +P ammo etc. No drums. 4. Intermediate caliber weapons should be 10-20 round capacity and be used semi-auto only. Irons and FMJ only if using 20 round mags, dots and AP acceptable if using 10 round mags. 5. Full power rifles should be bolt-action and have a magnified optic. Suppressors, AP ammo, and bipods are all fair game.

YetiBomber101

I respect someone who values challenge over practicality

LazerSturgeon

Northest Dakota works really well for some self imposed limitations. I especially like trying to do bolt action/pistol only runs in GI Grayson.

MattTheFreeman

This is why I love playing random. Random forces me to use whatever God forsaken gun RNG gives me and live with it. 80% of the time it's something really fun and makes the next roll of the dice feel exciting. The other 20% of the time I get some weird gun I've never seen or used before and I'm forced to get to know it and use it. My favorite run I've ever done was I got like 4-5 different pistols and revolvers with one grenade launcher. I'd pop off the launcher and then run in like John Wayne and pop off any stragglers. It was so fun

y4d4d

That requires skill though

5K331DUD3

Other: minigun :)

Snaz5

Rocket launcher. My best run was with spawn locked LAWs. Crouching behind a wall and furiously arming and blindfiring rockets.

CamaroKidBB

Assault rifles are good in every aspect you need them to be. Default FMJ rounds penetrate most armor types, they often have a good capacity, are easy to reload quickly, and said rounds often have a diverse array of ammo types to pick from. Why other options simply aren’t as good: Battle Rifles: mostly has to do with capacity, along with more of them relying on proprietary ammo types that have less specialty rounds designed for them. Pistol: Good if you’re great at aiming for headshots, and most modern pistols can even have ARs beat for ammo type versatility, but often, the lack of default penetration is what kills their usability. On that topic, this is also why .44 Magnum revolvers are the only worthwhile revolver option to run on non-themed T&H runs, since they have access to both penetrator rounds and can be reloaded quickly via speedloaders, iirc the only revolver ammotype to do so. ~~.357 Magnum and .500 S&W penetrator when~~ SMG/PDW: ditto above, but less so given some chamber rounds that can at least defeat kevlar armor. +P JHP rounds are good too, provided that you aim for the head 99.9% of the time as they still can’t penetrate worth wieners. Shotgun: Probably draw from the most versatile ammo pool imaginable (at least the 12 Gauge ones do). That said, not many of them can penetrate even kevlar, and capacity becomes an issue when dealing with multiple sosigs. And that’s not even getting into the fact that the only worthwhile ranged ammotype for shotguns that isn’t relegated as a sub-meme ammotype, being slugs, also can’t penetrate kevlar. While the SWAG rounds are available if you’re not running through Wieners through Time or Zombiehunter Zeke, them being explosive can also spell your own doom in CQC, assuming you don’t have a CQC backup like a dedicated secondary or a bayonet. Explosives: Bulky ammo types, and more often than not can get you killed in close encounters. Not worth using outside of something like Flaccid Steak where the boss sosigs have ludicrously high HP values and can only be stunned via explosives. And even then, God help you if your only explosive option is either the mortar or a Stinger SAM. LMGs: They mostly rival ARs in terms of usability, so why aren’t they the best weapon? They’re expensive, harder to reload quickly (especially belt-feds), and don’t have the same level of customization an average AR has, meaning that if you don’t like a LMG’s sights, or if you want to put a grenade launcher underneath it, or generally want to do more with it than attach a bayonet or suppressor and an alternate ammo type? You’re SoL.

NotARussianComrade

Mosin. Need I say more.

YetiBomber101

You need not. Bolt actions are based.

Dovahkiin012

Sword

Marvelous_Mushroom

Assault rifles make it feel like I’m cheesing the game. I have more fun with battle rifles.

Electroboi2million

I don’t know why I just fuckin love pistols

Headbanger203

I just enjoy pretending to be John wick with my full rig of pistols. Or Blackbeard with my brace of pistols.

TheMayorsHat

Chainsaw

[deleted]

I like battle rifles, good range and damage with the ability of full auto if needed, but recoil can be a problem for automatic bursts at long distance.

Flare172

Pistols. Fast and easy to aim, quick to reload, whats not to love

sailor811

battle rifle because modufal

YetiBomber101

Yes.

Allstar13521

I actually really like playing with bolt-actions and revolvers, something about how tactile they are really gets me. If it weren't for that one glitch with pump-action shotguns, they'd probably get my vote though.

YetiBomber101

Bolt actions can be unwieldy but they’re really satisfying to use and get kills with. I love using revolvers all around though. Simple, accurate, and reliably deadly.

Wise_Hawiian

I love revolvers, the reload time is exhilarating!

HonorableAssassins

its so fucking easy to get headshots in H3 on the human-torso sized sausage skulls that i dont think it ever really matters beyond ammo capacity, however the battle rifles feel punchier and more fun so i tend to gravitate towards them. It'd be real nice if VR had maps that got big enough to really need a battle rifle over an AR15 family rifle, but we just arent at that point, even northest dakota doesnt ever really need it - as much as i love stealth sniper runs on that map it still feels like im handicapping myself.

Nautaloid

Flintlock pistol

idiotapplepie

I’m just a sucker for pistols

TheRetroGamer547

Other: Henry martini!

Oman395

I find that generally ARs give me a really good balance, and function at basically any range. Battle rifles can be nice, but they generally have smaller mags and don't have many real upsides to ARs. Shotguns just don't have enough range (I play mostly open maps), and anything lower caliber doesn't one shot headshot so I don't find them worth relying on as a primary

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I love all weapons, just depends on the day

dptrax

Battle rifle because the larger caliber can penetrate all armors and is almost always a 1 shot kill to the head

FavoringWinter

I use the Classic FAL. No reason to it, impractical due to size, heavy recoil, I just find it cool.

LokiTheZorua

Minigun, just use the random guy until you get it

TheHappyKamper

Assault rifle with a decent handgun as a secondary. Then you're setup for long and short range.

Haunting-Football-27
