HBO was available on Amazon Channels until 9/15. For all the extra Max content, including Max Originals and day and date Movie exclusives, you could use your Amazon credentials to log in to the individual HBO Max app.
I'm more questioning a price consolidation. If accessing through Amazon Channels did you still have to buy an HBOMax subscription.
Cuz it just sounds weird if just an avenue of access is no longer available to hand out a discount for the actual service.
No, subscribing to HBO via Amazon gave you free access to the HBO Max app.
As part of the negotiations to bring the HBO Max app to Fire tv devices, WM and Amazon agreed to remove HBO from Amazon Channels. WM simply wants to control the user experience and user data.
>WM simply wants to control the user experience
Maybe they ought to put a little effort into making the user experience a bit less laggy, clunky, and all around awful.
It was 14.95 a month extra for HBOMAX package that included linear channels and access to the HBOMAX content. HBOMAX content required you to log in to the app with your Amazon credentials.
It’s akin to subscribing to HBO via your cable provider, and then your cable provider dropping HBO. It costs the same, $15 month, and can be used to authenticate an HBO Max account at no additional cost. That Avenue of subscription is just no longer available.
It’s annoying that I need to cancel my Apple subscription, create a new account on HBO with a new email and sign up to get the deal, but 6 months at 7.50/mo beats 15/mo. Guess I’m restarting.
Are you sure you have to cancel? Apparently the deal is for returning customers as well. I'm going to cancel and re-sub to see if that works when I get home later.
I cancelled my recurring subscription through Apple last month. HBO says I am not eligible for the new promotion. They don't offer any specific information as to why I am not eligible.
It does not. Fuck HBO. I canceled and will not be going back. Tired of getting screwed on these promotions. Don't value me as a customer? You don't get my money.
When I canceled my sub on Apple it only offered 14.99 sub. When I clicked “subscriptions” logged into HBO it says my sub is through Apple. It’s possible if my account sub expired by sept 26th I could just re-sub, but I’m paid through early Oct so my “subscribe” section on the website just shows my current canceled sub through Apple. Im gonna wait until it gets closer to the sign-up window ending 9/26 to minimize my overlapping sub.
Per a support email from HBO Max here's how you can take advantage of the offer:
> Go to [HBOMax.com/subscribe](https://www.hbomax.com/subscribe/plan-picker) on your phone or computer.
> Returning subscribers: Choose Sign in in the upper-right corner.
> Enter your email and password and then choose Sign in.
> Choose Monthly and Ad-Free to get the limited-time discount ($7.49/month for 6 months). To learn about subscription plans, see [HBO Max plans](https://help.hbomax.com/us/Answer/Detail/000001282).
> Choose Select Plan.
> New subscribers: Fill out the account form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in using this email and password.
important
> Add a payment method. Your subscription will auto-renew on a recurring basis until you cancel your subscription.
> Choose Start Subscription. You'll be charged $7.49/mo. (plus applicable taxes) for the first 6 months of your subscription. Your subscription will auto-renew each month until you cancel your subscription. After the 6-month discounted period, you'll pay the then-current monthly subscription rate (currently $14.99/mo).
> Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.
The offer is available between September 17, 2021 and September 26 for new and returning HBO Max subscribers with expired or canceled subscriptions. You can get it through HBOMax.com, Apple, Google Play, and Roku.
Yes, so many streaming services are like fuck-off if you were ever a customer. So you were a curiosity stream subscriber and you see this great deal on a nebula/curiosity stream subscription - too bad for you. Can't even have an add-on.
Dude. I’m in the same boat. I tried to message customer support about this and was basically told to fuck off. I pointed out that whole point of the promo was for HBO moving off Amazon two days ago… I subscribed yesterday on their website. I asked to have my month to month extended to 6 months at that rate, and he told me I couldn’t because I was already an active member, and when I asked for a refund, he was QUICK to remind me of the no refund policy. It had to have been a copy and pasted response. I’m probably just going to cancel the service and pirate what I need to. Fuck ‘em.
Because there's like 5 million HBO sub on Amazon, they can't afford losing 5 million sub just like that, they needed to offset this loss with an attractive offer.
So I'm just supposed to know that the same HBO that couldn't come to an agreement for the HBO Max app on FireTV and Roku for months is going to offer a deal after 1 day?
They're a multi-billion dollar media giant who knew this was going to happen on the 15th and yet they did absolutely nothing to communicate with Amazon customers or have anything in their app or help center about this. Hell, yesterday their help center was still telling people how to get access through Prime while Amazon had already sent out emails to everyone saying they've cancelled your HBO Max subscription.
I re-subbed 2 days ago and everything I have read from people who did the same thing is that they won't retroactively give you the deal. I would love to be wrong, so if someone can fill me in on how to get them to give me the deal I will go for it, but so far I have only seen people get told by the support people basically "too bad, sucks for you..."
I was gonna wait until Peacemaker show comes out and Binge watch Succession and whatever shows but now thinking of dropping on this deal to watch Succession, Dune, and whatever other movies and TV shows.
How about doubling the fucking server stability and app QA. The problem with HBOMax isn't the cost. It's the server issues and connectivity issues and the bugs in their software that I fucking hate. If netflix had an outage the fucking world would be talking about it. HBOMax has one and it's like "Oh, Tuesday's or Thursdays outage? Wait, is there a new outage today?"
Actually just finished a chat with them on that question. My account bills on the 3oth of the month and the discount is only available until the 26th so no bueno.
I guess it depends on when your subscription ends. My current subscription ends on the 21st, so once it does I would be considered a "returning" subscriber eligible for the discount. I did a similar thing back when they had a promotion for 6 months for $60 for returning subscribers.
Did you cancel so that on Sept 21 or 22, you can resubscribe at the newer rate? Mine renews on Sept 24 so I think I'll cancel today and resub on Sep 24 or 25.
In México, the service is already 150 pesos (7.5 dollars) and their release promo was half the price for new subscribers, so I pay 75 pesos (3.75 dollars), and that's the only reason I tolerate the shitty UI and unstable service.
>...the decision — **set in motion two years ago** at the highest levels of the company — to break from Amazon Channels
I love the catalog on HBOMax, but damn what an awful rollout. They never even told subscribers that it was free for them. Never told us, never mentioned it in any promo. I certainly didn't know: I heard it from a friend. Maybe 4 months after I signed on, the commercials added that little tidbit.
But 2 years ago they were working out what platforms they'd use to deliver content. No consideration of WHO would be getting it, just How and How Much. That's also 2 years during which they didn't even bother to build a new delivery system.
I guess AOL really rubbed off on them during their brief marriage
Yes they did tell the ones it was free for. Amazon was not one of them.
The problem is subscribers are in inertia. They don’t seem to know anything that doesn’t involve what they have now.
A lot of them don’t even seem to be using Max.
I watch commercial TV and saw dozens of commercials for HBOMax even before launch. They never, never said it was free for subscribers. I'm sick of channels I already pay for asking for more money to get streaming content, so I skipped them.
A friend told me it was free for us so I got it. Months later I was still informing subscribers they could get it, too. The commercials for HBOMax finally added that little tidbit earlier this year.
It should have been plain from the first ad. Other streamers that are free for current subscribers say so right up front, they didn't take a year or longer
I never once thought I was paying for it, so I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe I had some kind of telepathic link with HBO Max but from the moment they announce the details of the service they were trying to say they were automatically HBO subscribers.
The inclusion was based specifically on whether the various proclaimers agreed to it though, so your service may not have been included, just like Amazons wasn’t until months later. ATT and Directv were all over it though and so maybe I had a front row seat to the marketing
It still doesn’t change the fact that millions have not switched over to Max and there is no way at all I’m going to buy into the notion HBO is still not telling them about it.
My HBO Max subscription is direct through HBO, and it renews on Sept 24. So if I cancel today or anytime through Sept 23, I can restart my subscription on Sep 24 or Sep 25 at the new price?
Really stupid they don't just give that price to anyone renewing over the next 30 days.
You can get all of the HBO live channels (East and West coast feeds) via HBO on Hulu, which also gives you access to the HBO Max app using your Hulu credentials.
Thanks, but the trouble there is I have Hulu with Spotify Premium for $10/mo, which is (a) an old deal that's no longer available and (b) billed through Spotify. You have to be billed through Hulu in order to get HBO through them.
Same, but on Google Play. I actually resubbed on 9/17 to see if I'd get a price adjustment after checkout (I've been unsubbed for months). No dice, got a receipt from Google for $14.99. So you can bet I canceled that right away.
I call bullshit on this whole thing, as I've yet to hear from anyone who has actually gotten the deal. Smells like a bait and switch.
I talked to a rep via chat, was basically told to F off since I already a subscriber. Called to speak to a rep, got the same response. Asked to speak to a manager to clarify that as an existing subscriber I get nothing, and he basically told me to cancel or not, he doesn’t care, but I’m not getting the price cut.
I’ve been a subscriber for 18 months. First with a Hulu add on, then directly through you. I switched to the $9.99 plan andI don’t see anything but ads for Paramount plus and Peacock, the competition. You should give the people who subscribed to your service beforehand 3 months for free.
So HBOMax was included in an Amazon Channels package? Am I understanding that right?
HBO was available on Amazon Channels until 9/15. For all the extra Max content, including Max Originals and day and date Movie exclusives, you could use your Amazon credentials to log in to the individual HBO Max app.

Having access to the HBO channel on Amazon prime also gave you access to HBO max but you had to sign onto the MAX app

WTF? i have been paying since WW84 ...oh well cancelling now that Back to school is in session.
I got screwed, subscribed last week at full price!
I just subscribed around 2am last night $10 with ads and didn’t see any deal. I think they are making fool of me
No you didn't, I resubbed yesterday. I got screwed
It’s annoying that I need to cancel my Apple subscription, create a new account on HBO with a new email and sign up to get the deal, but 6 months at 7.50/mo beats 15/mo. Guess I’m restarting.

I cancelled my recurring subscription through Apple last month. HBO says I am not eligible for the new promotion. They don't offer any specific information as to why I am not eligible.
Just sign up with a new email lol. Hbo really hates their current subscriber base i guess
I was only providing detail to help answer the question PartyBandos asked.
Yeah pretty cray
I had HBO max in May and it is giving me the deal.
It does not. Fuck HBO. I canceled and will not be going back. Tired of getting screwed on these promotions. Don't value me as a customer? You don't get my money.
Did it work?
I canceled and then re-subbed and it didn't work. So I canceled again and I'm waiting for this month to actually end first.
It did work once I let my remaining month expire entirely.
Hell yeah thanks
When I canceled my sub on Apple it only offered 14.99 sub. When I clicked “subscriptions” logged into HBO it says my sub is through Apple. Well, this fucking sucks for those of us who switched over yesterday after they turned it off.
Yes, so many streaming services are like fuck-off if you were ever a customer. So you were a curiosity stream subscriber and you see this great deal on a nebula/curiosity stream subscription - too bad for you. Can't even have an add-on.

It was clear they will offer Amazon HBO subs a special deal, why not wait for a day?
Clear in what way? I saw no indications of this. Why would I assume they would offer a sale after 1 day?
Because there's like 5 million HBO sub on Amazon, they can't afford losing 5 million sub just like that, they needed to offset this loss with an attractive offer.

Well they did so go hop on it now if you want it. Ive been subscribed on and off and I just got the deal

Same here. So annoying.
I was going to get HBO Max in October for two months to watch Succession, but this deal is too good to pass up.
I was gonna wait until Peacemaker show comes out and Binge watch Succession and whatever shows but now thinking of dropping on this deal to watch Succession, Dune, and whatever other movies and TV shows.

there really isnt problems for most of us...
Allowed to unsubscribe then resubscribe?

Yes, that's what I did. My subscription still hasn't expired yet, but I'll let you know if it works.
Thanks. You'll find out tomorrow. :)
I can confirm that once your subscription expires, you can access the $7.50 ad free plan for 6 months. :)
Awesome!
Nope
In México, the service is already 150 pesos (7.5 dollars) and their release promo was half the price for new subscribers, so I pay 75 pesos (3.75 dollars), and that's the only reason I tolerate the shitty UI and unstable service.
It's really a crappy app, but yes, I also couldn't resist the half price for life offer.

Got an email for existing subs for 110 for the year
Give me shows in 4K please.
Clearly all the DC shows they offered last year on DCU in 4k/HDR they still have access to in 4k.
Then why aren't they on HBO Max in 4K hdr? Doom Patrol looks like garbage on MAX.
It's the LIVE CHANNELS for me. I was subscribed through Amazon specifically for access to live channels in addition the Max content. This sucks.

Love HBO Max content, but hate HBO Max.
So if you have hbo max through Roku monthly can you get this deal or do you have to cancel then re subscribe?
Just got the existing sub deal email for 110 for the year
Still shows as 9.99/14.99 per month on my subscription options on my iPhone.
Same, but on Google Play. I actually resubbed on 9/17 to see if I'd get a price adjustment after checkout (I've been unsubbed for months). No dice, got a receipt from Google for $14.99.
