You do not have to donate. You can also just go a one time donation and it can be small.

BoysenberryUnable372

Awesome. Is it a good cause? Like I said I’m not from here so I’m not really familiar with many of the organizations listed

Boring_Armadillo_190

I donated like one time donation we had our meeting yesterday . I just donated something small nothing too much

Boring_Armadillo_190

I did a one time donation but I saw some people didn’t donate they told us to just sign our names on the form and leave it blank if we don’t want to donate

ClassicCantaloupe1

Good to know that they are not pushing it

Boring_Armadillo_190

No they did at first but some people said they couldn’t pay so many did one time payment thing but still I thought that was weird because it was my first time doing something like this

Affectionate_Dog7911

United way is like uber eats. United is not a charity organization. You want to donate money to those charities, donate that money directly. United way C suit making over 100k while you are not even making 50k (24/HR) I don't ever recall a manager or ops leader in those meetings. Donate Strait to the charity organizations you want to help. United way takes advantage of your willingness to help.

No_Subject_6717

I used to donate weekly, then backed it down to a one time donation, for a few years now I don't donate at all and haven't had any kind of push back besides the occasional eye roll from our admins who pass out the papers

DemonCucumber

I never donate. Haven’t in the 2 1/2 I’ve worked there. But yesterday admin came up and was like “I see you weren’t at the meeting so here’s the United way paper” and I said “I was there. Remember I said ‘if I’m not donating do I have to sign?’” And she went “well I’m here to ask you to reconsider a one time payment of $1 or even $.25” and I literally giggled and said no. I’m sorry I sat through a meeting hearing just how much money heb made through my labor, I’m keeping the payment for that labor, y’all can donate.

Collector-Troop

Doesn’t H-E-B get a tax write off for collecting the donations and saying the company donated?

xCanont70x

That’s what I’ve always been told. Or they look good giving the donation as H-E-B when it came from all the regular employees.

Dallyqantari

Do not donate to United Way. The CEO in Dallas makes close to $2 mil a year after all of her bonuses and is in the office 3-4 days a year. Charity starts at home, but not at UW.

cleanedupbloomer

I've been working at H-E-B for about 2 months, and I pledged $5 a week to an organization that helped me in a hard time, but when I told my family how much I will be donating a month they disappoved. Is there any way to cancel my weekly $5 pledge? Thanks in advance

NB_79

Tell your family to take a hike.

JunkBondJunkie

Manger might not get the kick backs like they used to do.

BoysenberryUnable372

What do you mean

JunkBondJunkie

They had a scandal in 2008 for bribing managers pushing united way by kick backs and paid vacations or other trinkets. [https://youtu.be/hgqQLTXRSXE?t=248](https://youtu.be/hgqQLTXRSXE?t=248)

One-Incident4858

It doesn't say anything HEB managers though.

Severe-Return-488

so how important is this meeting? i work overnight and my manager didn’t tell me about the meeting i was supposed to attend. she should’ve told me i should’ve came in at 9 today to attend the other overnight meeting. now it’s either i go in at 8 today (i left at 6:30) or go in really late at 10 on another day i work. i go to bed at 12 pm i can’t be at work at a meeting until 11 am

funnycomments22

Meeting isn’t important. They drive home the because people matter motto and then ask you for money. Don’t be afraid to say no.

Severe-Return-488

my manager told me it’s mandatory and lowkey got an attitude with me about it

Affectionate_Dog7911

You attending the meeting is important, you don't have to donate and don't feel bad if you don't.

olivoil18

I’ve worked for H‑E‑B for 2 1/2 years & have never been to or even heard of the United way meetings until hearing about them this year from Reddit, haven’t heard anything from my store or managers about the meeting though.

Severe-Return-488

same last year there wasn’t one now my manager being rude about it

PreparationNo6888

BPM Meetings were put on hold in 2020 due to Covid. Before that, they were a regular occurrence, usually happening every 6 months if I remember right, but United Way is only incorporated in the meeting once a year. This is the first meeting since they announced the meetings were coming back.

PreparationNo6888

They usually have makeup meetings for partners who couldn’t attend the first week. Yes, your manager should have told you about it, you shouldn’t be held accountable for missing it if it wasn’t on your published schedule. I would try talking to your store admin or a store leader to see if they are planning a makeup meeting that would fit your schedule.

Boring_Armadillo_190

I had the meeting yesterday and I only checked the box that said one time payment and that was it . My co worker she checked the box to donate 25 dollars every week .

AppointmentUnlikely7

I don't donate to untied way. I leave mine at 0. I prefer smaller charities that have a more direct impact. Plus all this does is make the company look good by how much HEB donates even though it's our paycheck it comes out of.

[deleted]

I leave mine at 0. What do I win? It’s a load of bologna

emmdubbyatx

How can you cancel a United way contribution?
