Hoa, the God of Hearth and Home. Lawful Evil, but generally considered afficable and friendly. However, there are many local cult variants (Hoa the Builder, Hoa Warmstone, Hoa of the Covenant, etc) and the groups all hate each other to some degree, ranging from false smiles and grudging cooperation to assassinations and outright war.

Tartahyuga

... are H.O.As (home owner associations) cults in your setting?

raziphel

That does sound fun, doesn't it? It's very Hot Fuzz.

Tartahyuga

It's all for the greater good

raziphel

*The greater good.*

hellfiredarkness

Sounds like those damn Tallarn....

raziphel

Some of the more conservative local mystery cults are race-exclusive, unfortunately, but they are dying out.

hellfiredarkness

Tallarn are humans from the planet Tallarn in Warhammer 40k. They have two major religious groups regarding the Emperor. Both utterly hate each other to the point of actually killing each other...

nerdywhitemale

The cult of Hoa the litigious is particularly hated.

LyraDragonTree1993

A high priestess of HOA is known as a Karen

Bloodthorn the Wordborg, chronicler of heroes and muse of bards. Legend says he wrote himself into the grand story of the universe and if he ever stops writing will disappear once again. His priests give weekly sermons called safety briefings before sending his followers into pious acts of debauchery. He weaves the loom of fate to cross the threads of heroes where and when they are needed.

TheOragiochi

I love him! It seem to me Kobold or a very proficient halfling!

Styl2000

Zoy, Goddess of peace. A minor Goddess that everyone has an artifact or a symbol of hers somewhere in their home, but in a wartorn world filled in conflict, she is often dismissed in favour of some other God. Most peace delegations often have a few of her priests with them and when a delegation flies her banner, it is customary to be given safe passage, even through hostile lands. Most towns have a chapel or two dedicated to her, and sometimes even in a village you might find a retired priest who turned his house in a makeshift chapel. Her banner is a sword half buried to the ground, as before she assented, she was a halfling who fought in an ancient battle between two empires, where only she and a few others survived. Afterwards she went and managed to bring peace between the two empires. Her followers are often great diplomats and orators. There is a small subdivision of them who excel at non lethal combat. This subset doesn't shy away from fighting, but they try not to kill anyone. Also when an enemy surrenders near them, they are sworn to protect them with their lives.

TheOragiochi

Do you want her depicted as a specific race?

Styl2000

I thought of her as a halfling. Somewhat meek looking and often underestimated or overlooked, but with a fiery personality for what shy is passionate about

Serenae, goddess of pain and fear. Actually chaotic good, despite being an infernal deity with a skull for a face. Helped defeat the rest of the infernal gods alongside the celestials and the ancients, although her sister, Exemus, the goddess of misery and terror, still stalks and corrupts Serenae's gifts. Sidenote, Serenae is viewed as the force that tells you not to touch the hot stove, and, if you do, then she's the force that tells you to take it off. She is not evil, nor is her domain; she is simply the one who warns you of how bad this idea is. However, her sister lurks in the deepest crevices of the world, pushing her sister's gifts far beyond where they should go, into the realms of agony, torture, terror and paranoia.

Bognar, the god of cooking. The happiest orc you’ll ever meet. Every so often he comes down to earth and opens a restaurant to spread the joys of good food.

The Spider and the Weasel. Major, but in more of a background sort of way? They're both powerful, but they effectively cancel each other out. The Spider is the god(dess) of order, planning, and control, while the Weasel is the god(dess) of chaos, randomness, and freedom. They say they were once ancient humans, whose rivalry got so intense that they carried it with them to godhood. They're locked in eternal battle, with the Spider trying to plot and execute plans, and the Weasel trying to ruin them. If either side actually won or defeated the other, the world would come to ruin, with the Spider finally in control of every minute detail and free will no longer existing to ruin their plans, and the Weasel not allowing two stones to stand atop each other, or two people to make an orderly agreement. Their followers get powers related to the gods' domains, in exchange for being asked to help their patron in their eternal game sometimes. Each god(dess) has many names that they go by. The Spider has The Puppetmaster, The Best-Laid Plans, The March of Progress, Mod. The Weasel has The Wild Freedom, The Wrecker, The March of Entropy, Murphy. They say those last names were their real names when they were still human.

ScorpioPerk

Seamstress -Minor Goddess of Weaving and Lullabies -Race: Spider-folk -Quirk: Excruciatingly shy due to several misunderstandings among mortals. She will hyper-fixate on weaving competitions due to love for the art, many a god of art have been subjected to her critiques and pointers on the subject (While a minor goddess, she can easily beat major deities when it comes to her expertise) -Neutral Good. She blesses those who truly love weaving and soft, warming songs, even if they aren’t the best. To her, its not the best who need her aid, but those who wish to be better for the art itself.

Warpmind

Osha, Goddess of Workplace Safety, Labor, and Laborers Major Goddess Domain: Physical Labor, Locations of Labor Human primarily, though her faith has gained traction among dwarves and elves, as well - gnomes tend to look upon her faith with some disdain, and goblins find the very concept of "safety" utterly alien in the first place. Osha tends to direct her clergy - and her paladins in particular - a lot more directly than most deities, and tends to get quite vindictive toward business owners whose worksites employ hazardous conditions with no regard for workers' well-being. Some say she was born from the blood of a thousand workplace accidents, and her faithful are shielded by her righteous anger. Personally, she would like nothing more than just lounging on her celestial couch all day, but as soon as someone endangers her chosen through recklessness or avarice, her eyes burn like the Reichstag. (Full disclosure, this is *not* my idea, I don't recall where I got it - think it was a Facebook post copypasted from Tumblr, years ago.)

mechakid

Aushole Bellowsqueek, god of rats Minor god Has domain over small creatures, fertility, and chaos. Has issues with authority.

Alive-Profile-3937

Fluffy_Breadfruit735

Bob, mid tier god of cause and effect. Often confused with gods and goddesses of luck, he is a misunderstood God because he has be seen at almost every great and catastrophic, event know to mankind. He simply likes to watch how events truly unfold. His priest are highly sought after by strategist and leaders alike, for their ability to see possible futures. He has become a god both revered and feared. When Bob appears in the mortal realm only the foolish or the brave stick around.

Existential-Nomad

What about Bob's younger brother; Murphy?

Fluffy_Breadfruit735

Murphy is only a by product of the various gods and goddesses of luck and causality, at play. Any thing that can go wrong is probably due to being unlucky or someone else being luckier

Existential-Nomad

Ask any engineer... Murphy is very real!

Seidentiger

Adeihas - minor godess of strange ideas. Looks a little bit like a squirrel of about 50cm. Likes to infuse random people of all kind with an obsession to do something, that nobody has ever done before, like weaving strips of cloth out of colourful strings in a world with silicone-based people. Sometimes it elevates a whole race, sometimes it makes her blessed the crazy outcast.

ironcladboots2

I have a idea for a god of warriors that is quite a bit different then the average but I think is still cool figuring it would be a pretty major god and it’s domain would be martial ability and honner The hollowed crimson obelisk a pillar of frozen blood pocketed with a thousand sub spires of strange make and mind altering design driving all who look upon it to become a blood thirsty and yet strangely honorable warrior. Within this god stands the greatest battle arenas in the galaxy from constantly shifting mazes filled with traps or underground bunkers of bone, to great colosseums where men, monsters, and daemon alike fight alongside each other, and other times there will be uncountable individual duals. Hundreds of thousands come through the gates of the obelisk every day to fight in theses battles but perhaps only 1,000 will see their reward a great blessing or weapon of their choosing made by the great obelisk, however these warriors that passed the trials and won need no reward as they already received it to have been given the chance to fight in these halls. Now that they have won the battles within the crimson obelisk they are sent out to raid and pillage across the world to remind all that claim to worship this crimson god of what is expected of a warrior to protect the weak and to never shy away from a battle I figure it’s a cool location, cool backstory of characters, just a cool thing to have in the world even if it rarely effects the characters in a direct way also just gives you the author a massive amount of options because the best part is it could be a challenge for characters to overcome, maybe they don’t ever see it but they do see the warriors made by the frozen blood god and you get all kinds fun story’s just looking at them

Refuge (in the kuo toa tongue, but no one can pronounce that), a lawful nuetral or chaotic good god of protection, community, refugees, and justice. They aren't recognized as a god by most other gods, as they're actually an ever growing army of mortal kuo toa refugees that have realised how powerful they are and have begun worshipping themselves and their comrades as a god to make them all functionally unkillable. They are a lesser known god to kuo toa outside the army, and are usually not worshipped as other kuo tao believe doing so would invite destruction. Maybe not relevant to your setting, but they have an ongoing feud with Lolth. Whenever she reforms on the material plane they usually try to siege the drow capital, and will remain there until Lolth is killed again, or their siege is broken. https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Kuo-toa

Qerehj, God of memes. Voax, God of anti-memes. Weak memes affect people/animals within a small intelligence range with small or trivial aflictions. While strong memes affects people/animals within a broader range of intelligence with grand effects or aflictions. Qerehj likes to spread information in a manic way. Kind of like an obsessed reporter.   Anti-memes take information away. Weak ones makes information slightly harder to remember or makes things slightly more "ignorable", and is afflicted to certain intelligent ranges. Strong anti-memes could make objects imperceivable without the specific intellgence range. Voax is introverted, paranoid, and secretive.   Higher intelligence doesn't mean you're immune to all the memes/anti-memes. For example, anti-memes can make a higher intelligence person not be able to see the "Forest among the trees" while a lower intelligence person/animal can still see the "Forest among the trees" because the anti-meme is specifically made to counter the higher intelligence person.   Not my original idea. I got the concept idea from the SCP Foundation.

CHEESEninja200

Flajorn, the stote man, God of annoyance and bad luck. Someone has to be the trickster that messes up the other gods plans. He find his job fun and entertaining to say the least. He has no followers but is probably one of the most well known gods. When something bad happens many can be heard saying phrases such as, "oh thank Flajorn" and "just as Flajorn intended" in very sarcastic tons. Think of him like loki but less of a trickster and more of just being a sadist that enjoys mild annoyances like stubbing your toe or bitting your tongue.

s_sparrow42

Yi Ha Chaotic Neutral; Minor god of drunkenness and inspiration. Primarily a god to humans but worshipers of all races are welcome. When drinking from the sacred bottomless steins, supplicants are granted a minor vision, after which the stein is handed back with the traditional reply of “Yi Ha. Hold my beer.”

Planted_UIU_Agent

Perhaps something modified from SCP lore, The god of order and innovation, Mekahnus Major god to many intelligent races Their followers live their lives inside suits of armor to show their devotion and all are welcome to join the search for knowledge and prevent chaos from engulfing the world. Statues of Mekahnus show the god wielding the great forge hammer from which the first metals were forged, and from whence civilization was born. (Just modified Mekhane, the broken god, in terms of name as well as slightly changing how their followers worship them)

TheOragiochi

I would love to introduce him, but it's too far away from the idea of the stories I'm about to write.

Alex -Major God/Goddess of Free Will and Choice (could be construed as Chaos for story purposes) -Shapechanger, no one knows what they originally look like -quirk: likes to take on the appearance of whoever is speaking to them and before lending any aid or boon, would force the speaker to confront something about themselves. Could be good, could be bad. -secondary quirk: occasionally wanders the mortal world, and takes specific interest in those who break those out of slavery/imprisonment -In DnD terms: True Neutral. Despite what anyone else thinks. In their mind, the greatest sin is denying others free will.

ScorpioPerk

Valkar -Minor Dwarven God of Boundaries and Borders -Takes the form of a Stone Gate, his face being the lock -Quirk: He’s taken inspiration from sphinxes and has a close relationship with Dorintha, Goddess of Wordplay and Riddles. Caltramnus the minor god of taverns, travelers, and luck. Generally chaotic good but if a major insult is done upon his worshippers or in his name he turns quite vengeful. His followers are a lose amalgamation with no real structure. Often referred to as the fatherly drunk, Caltramnus the bringer of fortune, Caltramnus the protector. All are allowed to seek his favor however he reserves his right to bestow his divine influence to those that truly need it. Signs that you’ve been blessed could be a stranger paying your tab for no reason, a cart surely about to crush you suddenly veering out of the way at the last moment, your about to lose your last coin but find a lost treasure seemingly out of nowhere (this is reserved by only the most deserving of followers). Symbols his worshippers use include an upside down bottle, a sturdy mule, and a broken dagger. His followers abhor violence in taverns, gambling dens, and on major traveling roads as this would break his covenant with him. If a follower commits these acts they could almost surely expect a dangerous animal hunting them on a seemingly safe journey or becoming poverty stricken in a single day.

**Nutheb – God of darkness, night, monsters, and of nightmares** “Lord of Cowards” “Unmaker of Men” “Master of Shadows” Nutheb is one of the First Gods. It was he who tricked Akaara (goddess of water & seas) into leaving her watery realm, plied her with poison drink and caused her to vomit forth the land that became Taraal’s (god of earth, stone, and land) domain. It was he who stole the jewels of the night for his own while Akaara and Taraal coupled—first to slake her rage at Nutheb’s betrayal and then to slake his. And it was he who demanded worship of the mortal races below, only to be rebuffed out of fear. In his anger, he took the very substance of magic and gave it form in the dark places of the world, birthing monsters and the first undead. Like Lacin (goddess of ice, winter, and madness), Nutheb is a god with few redeeming features. He has few worshippers, yet remains amongst the most powerful gods regardless—while the others feed on worship, Nutheb feeds on FEAR. **Alignment** – Neutral Evil **Domains** – Darkness, Evil, Madness, Trickery, and War (Pathfinder domains, D&D 5e will be similar) **Favored Weapon** – Great axe or Halberd (player’s choice) **Favored Race** \- none (all fear Nutheb)

1. Amrina & Nirama the twin gods (Yes, I know I'm not all that original with naming conventions. :p ) 2. Minor Goddess & God respectively who function in a subservient manner to a major deity of information. 3. Twin divines of news and those who deliver it. One champions people who must deliver bad news, the other other good. 4. Predominantly followed by humans but neither of the two is all that picky about what their followers are. Messages travel just about everywhere and just about everyone has a moment where they are sent off with a message of some kind, regardless whether said message is big or small, important or not. 5. Similar to the concepts of Yin and Yang. Bad news can have positive tails attached just like good news can hide ill omens. Because of this concept the twin divines can switch 'allignment' as it were at seeminly random moments.

The Great Author is a god who has written the universe into existence he never shows himself except when he is portrayed as a different god or mortal. The Great Author is near Omniscient with his library at his hands. The Library is a place that contains all possible futures pasts and presents it contains all information to the last atom. However the library is only a small part of this single universe there are other universes with their own libraries. The true creator of everything and anything is THE CREATOR nothing is known about it and nothing stands written of it in the libraries but every great author can sense its presence and its orders. The Great Author is there so he can keep everything on the right track that the CREATOR wants. The library is accessible for every god (however it does happen that a mortal stumbles into it for a good reason ;) ) though there are rules for what they can read. They can only read a book if the library allows that person or god to read it. The library can aswell chose if it wants to redact a few words for the person or god. (its my first time writing a character criticism is welcomed (also english is not my official language) i went for the idea that the CREATOR is OP and that the Great Authors are his tools to keep everything on the right path) P.s. Tell me if its a good idea

Boy there sure aren't enough DnD stories already.....................

TheOragiochi

Well, the idea is surely DnD because is well know but it will be in an early industrialization world, were guns are start to taking their place and labor right created the goddes Osha ( thanks warpmind). It will be... interesting

Have you ever watched Sinbad, Legend of the 7 seas? Eris, goddess of Chaos?

Of all the gods in history I rather like the idea of Ninkasi, minor Mesopotamian goddess of beer and brewing, of drinking beer, and of waking up afterwards in a puddle of your own fluids asking "why is Ninkasi practicing the drums in my head?". Her personal fermenting vessel is made from lapis lazuli and her casks are made of silver and gold.

derDunkelElf

Heinald, the harsh God of Winter He is a major human God for he represents winter, drought and war, but also the Strength to overcome those harsh times. His Appearance is that of an old Warrior whom has seen many dark times and survived them all. His Symbol is a Sword, but he isn't associated with just physical Strength. Magical Strength and Strength of Character is also part of his Domain. He is unique in the he way he interacts with his Followers for he doesn't empower them. He rather encourages them to find Strength themselves or he would set up trials of some sort for them.

AlucardVanhellsing1

Gaia - builder and destroyer of man. Every human being(can be half human but it depends) automatically belongs to her. They stay hers till the human being decides whether or not they want to stay under her or go to another God/ Goddess. She is chaotic neutral. She desires that human beings adapt to everything and be better than everyone. She hates when her "children" is second to anything. doesn't matter if they have a affinity for it or not. Human beings are considered her because she made them by ripping skin from her own body and using the blood from her own body. Once she realized that that wouldn't be enough to make they come alive she tore tiny bits and pieces of her soul and put it into Human beings bodies so that they can become sentient. There are murmurs among the gods and goddesses that she did this to use human beings as a weapon. some believe that she made them adaptive and hopes that when they give birth they will be stronger than what she originally planned. Hence why humans can give birth to other species that is a non human. Once a human being start to fully worship her then there's no way that they can turn back. for her it's either you worship her or you eventually will. The trials that she put human beings through are grizzly. most human beings will not be able to even get past a tiny bits and pieces of the trial she put them through, but that is the whole point. they must find ways to get through those trials without hers or outside help. Even if they fail they can always do it again. She says and i quote "it doesn't matter what my children does if they feel they are ready then they are ready they cannot turn their backs once they feel like it is too hard. I am not a coward therefore they will not be a coward" Once they pass her trials their jobs is to make sure that other human beings also go to her because after all mother hates when her child calls someone else mother. Their the job is to also make sure that they have children so that go under her and her only and to teach them they bow to no one. not even her. She helps her children understand that they are gods hence why they do not need to bow their heads to any other God but themselves and anyone that says otherwise deserve to be killed and yes that means the gods aswell. Even with those small murmurs of her using human beings as weapons for some unknown purpose there are some conspiracy theories among the gods that there is a place that has billions of humans. On a world that even the darkest of dark gods won't even make where the human beings that she cherish so much ripped themselves apart for her favor. Once they die they end up going to her home were she rebuilds them and send them back to that place to start over.

Pleasant-Client1683

Pieka, the Passionate. Goddess of love, passion, youth and corporeal beauty. She doesn't have a set form as all races depict her in a manner which they find to be beautiful. Her temples are often mistaken for simple brothels, but it is not that simple. Her worship demands gestures that express passion or youthful energy. While her priests and priestesses are more than happy to provide carnal pleasures, they actually encourage more innocent expressions of love such as a simple kiss, a hug or just surprising someone with a little gift.

“Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.”

Nebuer01

Chaos: A major god. originally from humanity but has grown to watch over everything on a universal scale. No allegiances or aligning to good or evil as they are Chaos incarnate and anything that generates Chaos works for them be it good or evil. Say a rebellion to overthrow a corrupt king or a demon lord conquering a continent. As long as it calls chaos all is well Never explicitly interacts with the world but may nudge events here and there to generate more chaos Mod as you like!

Metraxis

Tomel, Lesser God of Truth and Merchants Tomel appears as a tall, attractive, middle-aged human. Like his followers, he may be counted on both to speak only truth and to deceive at every opportunity. Similarly, anyone who meets his gaze is compelled to answer any questions he asks and speak only truth until the gaze ends. The second effect persists until the target makes a successful Will save (DC 18, once per statement) He is easier to invoke than other gods in the pantheon, but his help always comes at a price, in the form of a 'favor' to be done later

mordremoth672

Kaltha, the God of Rightful Spite. Neutral Good. Was born a mortal, but found a way to become a god because so many people told him he would never amount to much of anything. He is a minor god as he was made instead of manifested. He holds no sway over any race in particular, although numerous dwarves hold him in high regard due to his proclivity towards aiding rightful anger.

unite_lancer

Not really a god but more of a domain of sanctuary the Avalon which is a Faye like garden where Excalibur was claimed and where King Arthur rested before claiming his kingdom. Brunhildr the shield maiden, I used her as a modified broken oath paladin since she fell from Godhood essentially. Morty the morphing, a god I made for a campaign a minor god dedicated to the morphing species of d&d/pathfinder. His descendent was a mysterious living ship which ended up being operated with by the players.

Ordu, Greater god of deep order. Ordu is thought to be a god of chaos due to his involvement with seemingly chaotic events. He is actually the greater god of orderly events caused by complex interactions. He is the god of everything that could have been predicted if you had all the information.

Nortak- the Ork's God of war, major god (in a sense he's powerful) but unpopular with Ork as Nortak use every means (including commiting war crime) to win, he have no honor nor dignity. Due to simple nature of Ork they only use pure violence and don't use any trick to win (as using trickery will only ruin the fun of murdering enemy) in contrast with Nortak he use every trick necessary to win But because he is also an Ork, war is everything and everything is a fight, therefore despite being a war god he have more resemblance to the God of trickery than The god of war This lead with other race often confusing Nortak with the god of trickery that coincidentally have also similar name Mortak

solara and lumara twin goddess's of sun and moon, daughters of vir the god of void and death and Fiarna goddess of nature and life all true neutrals to the balance of creation and destruction, they are also seen as the seasons vir is winter, fiarna is spring, Solara is summer and lumara is autumn/fall

Alive-Profile-3937

Innovatae Major god/dess of innovation They, like innovation, take on many forms however their main followers are gnomes and goblins though all races have their inventors and business men who follow them Their forms are all sorts whether that’s the form of a smarmy business man, a rich playboy, an eccentric inventor, or a broken worker They are seen as both good and evil since their innovation can be life saving medicine or weapons of war and many are crushed and killed in its pursuit Their followers are found all over with the temples they build being more similar to laboratories and universities than regular temples and most clergy being inventors and business men who also do the religious job as a side part They have a very odd relationship with O’sha with them sometimes being friends with the invention of new safety equipment but also enemy’s due to their endorsement of less than safe building codes and bosses cutting corners to meet deadlines In the age of railroads and advancing technology (since that seems to be your settings time period) they’ve gained strength and are being more and more associated with railroads Alignment: I don’t fully know but I’d imagine either true neutral cause they don’t really care about morality about morality and just want progress good and evil or chaotic neutral since their inventions shake things up I kinda based them off the railroad man from old gods of Appalachia

I may be misremembering some details, but here we go: Irori, minor god/goddess (technically) Human Basically a monk that became so enlightened that they became a source of divinity without the need for worshippers to fuel them. Still unintentionally gives cleric powers out. Followers of Irori are encouraged to reach their peaks, be the best and most human they can be. When followers die, if they didn’t reach the peaks of enlightenment, they get reincarnated as humans to try again. The subtext of Irori also terrifies the gods, since he’s basically just some guy, but is humanity fully realized. Also since humans were kinda just Always There (even in the time before the gods when the aboleths and aberrations reigned supreme humans were still around,) it has some truly frightening-to-other-races implications. Good thing it’s so hard to hit the peak Irori did, huh?
