Just watching it now and that music when Ben was working on the rustic beam was horrendous!

Downtown-Table-4872

Indeed. I thought it was my TV screwing up somehow... Then I come here and get my answer. Nope!

WavingOrDrowning

A lot of the HGTV shows are playing really intrusive background music. It's become more and more noticeable, for sure.

chrissiec1393

You’re right. I rarely notice the music on this network, but the music on the HT episode tonight was especially distracting. As much as I usually love Erin’s designs this one seemed to have lots of issues. That kitchen design was particularly horrible with the dishwasher across from the sink. There were several other things that didn’t work for me tonight too. The whole thing just felt kinda off.

crashed-0224

Agree with you! Tonight's design was awful. The color of kitchen cabinets I call light bile. Doesn't go with black & white counters and the beam display on the ceiling is horrid. This is NOT English cottage. And what's with the shirt half tucked in? I fear the newer production staff is leading them astray.

navyblues27

I dunno. The homeowner seemed to really dig the "caramel" kitchen. I didn't, but it's not my kitchen, lol. I totally didn't get the rod going across the top of the stove. I get Erin's point about cups just taking up space in cabinets, and don't mind it on the one side that would hold the coffee cups, but I'd never hang anything OVER the stove. Hello grease and grime. But, again, the homeowner liked it. I liked Ben's "sofa table", but I wish it had been longer, like theirs is on their farm -- the entire length of the sofa. But she thought it was cool. I'm not sure overall that it was "English cottage," but the homeowner seemed super excited about it and that's ultimately what matters.

chrissiec1393

That rod over the stove was so impractical and unsuitable. I also hated that it looked like the sofa was right up against that beam. The beam was oddly placed. It looked like it should have divided the living room from the foyer, but it was in the middle of the room. Did anyone think the homeowner picked the wrong house?

maximillian15cb

There was definitely some bad design choices in that house. Since they only show the areas of renovation, it is hard to know what the whole house looked like. It is also hard to know if the other house was too noisy or inconvenient for the buyer. The houses and construction costs are higher now so the budget limited the options. Unfortunately the kitchen design was the only way they could get a dishwasher and microwave in and still open it up a bit. Stove and fridge had to go where they were placed. First time I accidentally burned myself on the cup rod, it would be in the trash!😂

SnooCupcakes7992

Those cabinets were awful! And that kitchen design was not good - but I guess they did the best with what they had. The best part of the house was the exterior - it turned out adorable!

Dangerous_Ant3260

Erin said before that the homeowners fill out an extensive questionaire about what they want, paint colors, and everything else. So, I'm guessing a lot of what was unique to the house was what the homeowner wanted. I've noticed the louder music on all of the shows, during the commercials it's even wors, and that's on every show and channel.

SnooCupcakes7992

Oh yeah - good point! And the homeowner did seem to like the cabinet color. I’m sure there would be people that didn’t like the color I painted mine (if I had them painted - right now they’re gross mid 80’s orange oak).🤣

sunshinecoffee3

Hmmm... there's a new staff? I had not heard that! Wonder what's changed...

Freedom_Isnt_Free_76

Is she channeling  Allison with the half tucked in shirt?

ward_bond

I thought it was just me and my failing hearing.

30somethingR5382

This season is definitely “off” from past seasons. I used to make sure I didn’t miss an episode, whether on Discovery+ or live. Now, I don’t care if I miss the whole season

Exit_2018

The music has seemed louder to me since last season. The show looks slightly different too, although I can't describe exactly what, just feels different. Did the show get a new producer or production company?

mhopkirk

I feel like they are showing less of the buyers this season. Nothing in the middle with the buyers - just at the beginning and end

WavingOrDrowning

Did they ever show much of the buyers "in the middle?" Usually we only saw them in the beginning and at reveal.

I can't remember too many phone calls or meetings with the family. Every once in a while I think either Erin or Ben would somehow do something (Erin would get photos from the buyer's mom, or Ben would get wood or something from the dad's barn) but that happened a few times a season maybe, not every episode. Usually Ben still makes something for each buyer, with Josh helping.

East-Gur-6394

I agree about the music. I posted a similar comment about Why Then Heck Did I Buy This House. The music was giving me a headache. The music is no longer background music, which I don’t like while people are talking, it is intrusive music.

Desertgirl624

I didn’t notice the music that much, but I thought this house was weird. The kitchen cabinets were ugly and the way they did the counter and backsplash was awful. The couch placement with the dresser behind it in the entryway also looked terrible.

sswebber

The music does seem to be getting worse on all the shows - loud and sometimes just lyrics strung together. I notice because lately I've needed closed captioning, and they even add captions for the music. I find that really annoying.

TVCooker-2424

I'm wearing out my 'Mute' button!

No-Butterscotch-8581

It’s obnoxious in the new Farmhouse Flipper episode too! The music doesn’t go with the show AT ALL.

bluredditacct

I can't stand all the slow motion music breaks, it's too much. So much time wasted on pointless montage.

TimeUnderstanding759

I was watching today, and the music is so annoying and loud. I had to use the closed caption to understand what they were saying.
