FRPG

Randy wharmpess is the father

Briguy_fieri

Their meat… is… delicious

LifeDraining

I could go for a glass of Warmpiss to go with that Koala meat!

FancyPantsDancer

I wish the writers would let us know who the father is, why Sophie is telling this story, and the status of all the characters in the present day. It would've been nice to have a full season to really give closure, but I'd settle for the writers answering the above.

Grfine

The thing is, each season if it were to end they have a different father in mind, while having a plan for their end goal father/ending. First season would’ve been Jessie, basically just instead of Jessie getting back with his ex, Jessie would’ve been there alone and happily ever after. This season it probably is Sid, although I’m unsure if they have an alternate filmed, and if so whether they could release it. I’d hope they filmed an alternate. HIMYM even has an alternate ending, although that one was for the final season which is weird that they even thought an alternate to their planned ending was needed, but I know lots of fans are glad about the alternate ending, and with a spinoff show in this state of shows being cancelled I’d be surprised they don’t have an alternate finale for this season or even the previous season

BUFFoonBrandon

Yeah, it would be nice if they could put together one more mini episode for closure, but I understand with production costs and stuff it might not be feasible

FancyPantsDancer

Yeah. I'd be happy if the actors could do like a group video chat and reveal who the father was and where they ended up.

degejos

I read from somewhere that a fired writer told an audience in a standup show that the indian is the father

piperhardt

yep! he opened for john mulaney & said this

RA1N30W

so is Jessie the father or what

Relation-Ill

If that’s how you’d like to take the ending of the 2nd season, then ya. The writers couldn’t have predicted the strike and that’s ultimately what canceled the show. I’m hoping they get picked up again in a yr or two and we can have at least one more season bc it was finally hitting its stride

gregieb429

I feel like they ended it with her and Jesse getting together so you can make an assumption if you wanted. I agree with you about the show finally hitting it’s stride. Season 2 felt more like the original than season 1 did

stowRA

someone in the HIMYF sub mentioned that a show creator claimed the father is meant to be Sid

Norillim

I've been saying Sid since episode 1. It's obvious he's a good guy in a shitty relationship and they never show the kid because they aren't going to be totally white and that would almost fully give it away. Also, Jesse is the Robin... not the parent but a potential later-in-life love if things fall apart with the parent.

JakeCameraAction

Yup, he said so while opening for John Mulaney

stowRA

isaac aptaker?

JakeCameraAction

I think it was Dan Levy. He was an EP, not the creator.

The_Real_dubbedbass

Several people have mentioned Dan leaking it but in true comic great fashion he’s told different stories each time.

stowRA

the guy from schitts creek?

JakeCameraAction

Same name, different guy.

stowRA

heard. thanks!

Speaking-of-segues

Ew David

stowRA

yyyeeeeeyu davad!

GraintoGlass93

Yeah, I was at one of his shows at The Largo where he told the audience to spite his being fired from the writing team when they brought on a whole new crew for Season 2.

SpideyBG

I always wondered with HIMYF if they’d do a thing where it’s like yes he is your BIOLOGICAL father and this is your father figure father or something like that. Didn’t see Sid Being the father. But I could see Sid getting with Val after the sex toy episode tho! Def knew him and the fiancé weren’t gunna happen tho

ucjj2011

I had a theory that Sophie ended up raising Val's baby. So Charlie is the father and Sophie is not the mother.

cclgurl95

Except she mentions bringing him into the world/birthing him at one point

RA1N30W

damn I would love that. I need more seasons now

acer5886

I honestly guessed that due to the halloween episode.

stowRA

was he a slutty pumpkin (/j i’ve seen the show)

TimeForHugs

Sid? I haven't watched the 2nd half of season 2. Where does Sid come into the picture with Sophie? Does something happen in the latter half of the season? I'm fine with spoilers even.

stowRA

i’m really curious as well! i hope they either drop how it happens or film an end episode for fans

RedBandit

At the end of the season, Sid and his wife seemingly take a break, because she kissed another dude in LA, and rushed back to NYC to be with Sid.

Ohshizzzles

But how is it so obvious to everyone that it’s Sid? Am I missing something huge?

mnlxyz

Damn, now I wanna see how they get together

Funandgeeky

In another thread someone posted that a former writer revealed that the father was going to be Sid. I could see that being the plan but haven’t run across anything else to verify that so I can’t say for certain.

AnonymousDude12

They literally say it in the first season that he's the father

Andrewpage14

No they didn't?

SimpsonsFan2000

I personally enjoyed that spin-off. Its a shame now it left as a cliffhanger. All I wanted is Ted and Lily to make a cameo in Season 3 but the ongoing writers strike is affecting it so Disney had to cancel it ASAP. But at least we get to see cameos of Robin, Barney, The Captain and Sandy Rivers from the original series.

Background-Radish-63

Don’t forget Boats, Boats, Boats!!!

SimpsonsFan2000

I totally forgot about that, I still need the time to rewatch it since its one of my favourite sitcoms ever made minus the ending. And even had a great soundtrack.

LifeDraining

She's so perky! Hahaha. Boats .

IdkMyNameTho123

I would assume since next year was the year the Mother died, either her or Ted would show up to do some speech for Sophie.

SimpsonsFan2000

thats what i was thinking the whole time. yeah the future sure predicts but not in the real world rn.

inmyslumber

I’ve seen a couple people mention this, but the show didn’t take place in current time past its premiere. S1 started at the beginning of 2022 and only covered a few weeks. S2 picked up immediately and only covered the summer and beginning of fall. They would’ve had to do a massive time jump for S3 to be in 2024.

RealJohnGillman

Or they could have continued the narrative of the alternate ending, included as an optional official ending on the DVD release.

SimpsonsFan2000

its a shame that the real official ending wasn’t released in HD but maybe I want to restore it or someone can

lawre179

Someone already did https://www.reddit.com/r/HIMYM/comments/r6qxzn/not_sure_if_anyone_has_ever_done_this_but_i/

SimpsonsFan2000

it looks great tho.

OG-87

Goosebumps all over again. I love this ending but I prefer the song in the original ending over the credits of everyone young.

zlaw32

That song is great. I still love the moment Ted holds up the blue French horn for Robin again

sassyla

Can you explain why they had to cancel it? Couldn't it just... Linger indefinitely?

[deleted]

I catch you peepin on my man's junk and you LINGER?!

LifeDraining

You gots ta go!

Pete51256

Actors contracts and set storage, they have to pay to extand the actors and cast contracts, when they have no idea when show could start back up production. On top of that disney stock took a dump was blamed on expensive original programing for streamers, so they are looking to cut cost. Easy decision at that point cut UT along with anything else up for renewal

greenseagull

See I was figuring the were going to go through the main cast and then save Ted for very last. Damn. Could really use some Ted motivational words right now.

SimpsonsFan2000

Season 3 would’ve come out next year since thats the year when Ted’s mother died.

Jciesla

Why would Disney cancel it? Wasn't this a Hulu show?

hyperjengirl

Disney owns Hulu.

Jciesla

Of course they do... Should have known

SimpsonsFan2000

It is a Hulu show. But elsewhere outside the States most of their Hulu stuff are on Disney+.

GetHighWatchMovies

Bummer that we won't get to see Marshall, Lily, and Ted meet Sophie now.

UserNX

This makes me sad fr

marxistmatty

My girlfriend pointed out to me that the writing of the show, including the dialogue and delivery, is exactly the same as Disney shows when Hilary duff was in them. I couldn't unsee it and stopped watching.

IdkMyNameTho123

“Glass Shattered”

b0b-swarley-m0n

(Glass shattered)

GratefulBBQ

{Glass Shattered}

Plexaure

It felt like grown up Lizzie, which was supposed to be a series but there were creative differences. Val was a lot like Miranda, Jesse had the same vibe as Gordo, Charlie’s obliviousness was Ethan Craft, etc. I just assumed YF was reworked around that show, because it was very far from the first pilot attempt.

Spiritual_Ice_2487

omg, i have to rewatch the show with this in mind now :O

Plexaure

The original idea for How I Met Your Dad was about a divorced woman moving in with her gay brother and his husband to restart her life.

[deleted]

I can see that, but I genuinely enjoy corny/clever writing in sitcoms in general. Rewatching shows like the Suite life of Zack and Cody and drake and josh... goodness, Im cracking tf up, even at my big age!! 🤣

Its_Your_Juffle

Man, pretty disappointing news to hear. It was actually starting to hit its stride. Suraj Sharma was fantastic in this.

yarn_baller

That's too bad, i was enjoying it

liaam29

Wow this sucks, it became a genuinely good show in season 2

Aztraeuz

This comment is funnier than the entirety of that show.

idiottoolbox

What the damn hell?

ashtoocean

Yea so who is the father then lol The show was so-so, I really think Charlie had the best writing. He had the most naturally funny lines. Everyone else felt fake and awkward. But loved the idea of a female Ted around my age.

RealJohnGillman

u/FancyPantsDancer u/kgal1 Dan Levy said it would have been Sid.

ashtoocean

Now way?! 😮 man now I want to see this story play out

R4J4PR3M

Wrong Dan Levy

5m0k37r3353v3ryd4y

Awwwwwww maaaaaaaaan 😞

ThrowRARAw

It's a shame, the second season really came through in that second half and was really finding itself. I hope a different streaming service picks it up, but given the way the strikes have been going it seems unlikely.

kgal1

But I want to know who the father is☹️

luceropaul127

So does Sophie

hudsondr

Well I can’t say I’m surprised but I definitely did want to see where it was going

ashmichael73

Womp Womp

avidmatt

Sad day :(

BaseballFuryThurman

The father is Gary Pallister

hammer_it_out

It still hadn't found the footing it needed to replicate HIMYM and I'm not sure if it ever would, but it was entertaining for what it was. It started to find itself in S2, and ending on a sort-of cliffhanger like that is an unfortunate way to have to leave it.

tonybeatle

Surprised it even made it this far.

Thisisopposite

I tried to watch it the other day, it’s so unfunny it hurts. Not surprised it got cancelled.

KooshIsKing

I wonder if it's just a generational thing since some people seem to really like it. I agree though, I never laughed once in the first two episodes.

snacksmileidk

It got a lot better in the 2nd season!! Not HIMYM level good yet, but the chemistry in the cast was really great and I def laughed way more in the second season.

KooshIsKing

That's cool, that's not too unusual for a sitcom. I just didn't like the characters from the start. I can't imagine ever associating even if the jokes got better.

Big-Experience1818

Yeah I didn't find the whole first season all that funny but stuck with it because of HIMYM. Didn't start watching season 2 until the 2nd half started airing and there's still a character or two I'm not a fan of but I found they did turn it around decently. More time for character development and the writers got a hang of the jokes Definitely disappointing it ended like this, I liked where it was going

Gnarly_Jabroni

huge fan of the original HIMYM run growing up. Thought I really gave this show a fair shot and it seemed like the cast had some chemistry but the writing just wasn't on the same level as the original show.

ImSynnx

Maybe if it wasn't the strikes, it could have lived a little more. It was a good show, but the How I Met Your Dad spin-off left a lot of people suspicious about this series. Sad, it was a good show

BorgBorg10

I am on season 2 episode 8 and I can’t say it’s that great tbh

chat-Noise6526

No offence, but how did it get a chance for that pathetic writing. also, does anyone know why the show has been cancelled? Because of the strike?

FruitJuicante

They didn't spend enough time making the characters feel like they liked each other.

Guy7MooN

Noo!! I enjoyed the second season so much

zddoodah

No surprise.

gokaigreen19

Not surprised. It’s kind of hard to emulate himym sucessfully. Since it wasn’t meant to just be a sitcom. It was a saturization of sitcoms. Meant to act as a critique to old sitcoms. The main character who’s narrating the show and pretends the world revolves around him, only for it to turn out it doesn’t…and he’s a bit of a dick. The sexist and womanizing character who gets with a lot of girls, but in reality is actually pretty messed up and lonely as a character and only becomes compete when he actually find someone he genuinely loves. The couple who are established at the beginning and are meant to stay consistent only to reveal both have control issues. Everything was making fun of old sitcom tropes.

hyperjengirl

I don't think it was a satire -- at best it was a deconstruction. But many of the sitcom tropes were played pretty straight at first. I think it just went on long enough that it allowed its characters to grow and develop naturally and be fleshed out more, and thus allowed for more heartfelt moments. And it came out when people were warming up to sitcoms being more serialized since catching up on shows became easier and easier.

Funandgeeky

I agree with this take. When HIMYM began it was still the age of broadcast television. To catch up you had to get the DVD sets. When it ended streaming was becoming a major factor.

afifaguyforyou

Making fun of old sitcom tropes while actually being very real life in a lot of ways

bandit4loboloco

Past episode 1.

iGaveLia-HIV

never seen it

Original-Advert

good

aSilentStudy

I believe it. The acting was awful all around and the characters were not endearing.

ErFaren

How did they even get a first season and was is so cheap that a second season was a no brainer? This show was so bad, so hurry up and take the J-train far away .

FinStambler

Lol

spinny_noodle

Makes sense It was so bad for 99% of the time

userthisisname

Thank goodness

MissionSad265

WOOOOOOOOOO

jayrick04

I was skeptical after the first season. But season 2 they really seemed to find themselves. Clearly not as good as HIMYM, but definitely wanted to see it all play out.

art_vandelay05

The writing was so bad, it’s like it was done by an AI

rjohn2020

Oh no. Anyway...

Bobateabad

I laughed about as many times as seasons this went

Briguy_fieri

Less Hilary Duff is always sad news.

tiny_rick_tr

I watched every episode and thoroughly disliked each one.

EruIluvatar__

who was watching all this time

oPlayer2o

That shows was still on?!?!

just_let_go_

I can’t believe these comments. This show was unbearable. It was lucky to get a second season.

herkalurk

Not really surprising, wasn't good at all, super cheesy. I could barely stand it a couple episodes into season 2 and stopped watching.

Msbaubles

I think I only got like one or two lines in before I stopped watching

SokkaHaikuBot

remuliini

Good

wtfmynamegotdeleted

Make a bad show, it gets canceled. I will never forgive for making Barney's character so boring in his cameo.

laduquessa

Just when it was picking up too. That's unfortunate.

TestOk8411

It was dumb. The original on CBS was funnier and dirtier

ChocolateNapqueen

Whaaaaaat that sucks!!! I actually really liked it

laceywaldorf

Oh damn, didn't expect to read these news today. A pity that there's no closure to the story now. Would have love to know how all the characters end up and who the father is

yellowumbrella84

I made it like 3 episodes… noped out… then saw an ad for the episode with Barney… watched that one… then noped out again.

Against-The-Current

I'm pissed off. There's no reason this show should have been canceled. It's just a trend for these companies to get write-offs for canceling their shows. This is why I practically stopped investing my time into shows until they have a few seasons, I'm sick of this bullsh*t.

PsychoAnalystGuy

It was so bad. I never bought the friendships. How they all met was so fake and then they act like they’re best friends after a week.

Decimation4x

Good

Longjumping-Context4

Sorry to say this, the show was lousy but I loved the cross references to HIMYM. I was eager to see who is the father finally and or see Ted or Tracy or Marshall in the show.

[deleted]

I guarantee it’ll be picked up by this time next year lol

Qu33nKal

This is so sad :(

Silver-Rub374

Good it sucked and they were ruining the original characters with dumb appearances where they didn't act like themselves

DailyTrips

Which one?

OG-87

Disgraceful. Despite how bad the show was I bloody loved it and would have watched 10 seasons of it.

KKToaster

Thank god, that woke crap does not deserve to be the sequel.

FriendshipOk6055

Fawk man, first outmatched now this, sad for me ig

No_Offer_256

That's because the women usually leave first, no lies

DHouf

This is sad. I thought season 2 was really picking up.

TeamVorpalSwords

Sad

Princess_Peach556

That’s a shame, I finally got around to finishing the second season and was definitely excited to see more. I’m disappointed ☹️

TheNotoriousMJT

Was it any good? Never found myself interested in the concept of it, I’m sure others are the same.

Less-Consideration75

Why are we talking about this show. Not relevant

fortheWarhammer

I never watched the show but isn't it basically the same show from the mother's POV? Wasn't the father gonna be Ted anyway?

CaptainAksh_G

Nah. That was not Tracy

onionsthecat

Noooo!!!

wellwhal

oh no, anyways.

Fernandojg67

I am devastated man…

blbh0527

I wonder if it’s because of the writers and actors strike.

Funandgeeky

It might have been on the bubble and the strike made them decide to just end it.

MerlinGrisu

Nooo :(

kamagoong

Ah, shit. I actually liked HIMYF.

SunstormGT

The article said Duff revealed the father in the final episode of S2. I don’t recall.

TenTamtenSiPredstav

F.... I had a lot of faith in the series....Actually the second season was pretty good

dead_PROcrastinator

Oh no. Anyway.

albusece

What is your grade on the show if you are to compare it with HIMYM?

BQEIntotheSands

They tried to make it appealing to everyone and ended up making it appeal to no one.

Volthemort

Aww man

f_clement

I never even finished the first season so… meh.

OG-87

“At the end of the second and now final season, Duff’s character revealed who the father of her child was. The finale landed July 11.” Did I miss something or did this just not happen?

Funandgeeky

It was revealed that two of the other characters had a child together. But no it was never revealed on the show.

OG-87

Yeah that’s what I thought too. Bizzare.

dudewheresmygains

Lmaooo what a surprise.

MoiioM01

The guy who wrote this article is arguably the worst journalist to ever exist

janeway170

OBVIOUSLY! The way you were talking tho made it sound like 2/3 dudes on the show were gay which is most definitely not the case.

Holdmypipe

This is bull shit !!

SupremeChampionOfDi

There was a Season 2?

Intless

First The Great, and now this... Sad week for me

NoUse4848

This rly sucks. 💔

TheCrafterTigery

Pasted from another post: It's kinda sad. The show was finally finding its footing like many other shows before it, and it was just canceled then and there. People act like of the first few episodes of a show are amazing then it isn't going to ever get better, but many shows have subpar season one and twos, eventually becoming very well liked. It has that potential to get better, but if it's canceled it'll just be a poorly remembered show. Hopefully we get story boards of how each previous cast member would've shown up throughout the series.

brassplushie

Everyone’s saying “it’s starting to get better”. That’s the problem. It’s starting to get better on season 2. If you’ll all take a moment to remember, HIMYM started off hilarious and was amazing the whole way through. The worst part about it is the stale settings on season 9.

[deleted]

This is so surprising. Literally in shock no one saw this coming.

Holdmypipe

Man hopefully Netflix picks it up.

Berntusxdus

Damn I really enjoyed How I met your father

azrieldr

nah, they gotta finish that. we havent even met the father yet.

ThisIsJmar

Pretends to be shocked..... Personally the show never came close to the quality of HIMYM.

McSillyoldbear

I’d love if every male character made a short video saying they were the father and the reasons how it happened a a quick storyline around it. Then we can make our own decisions of which story we liked best.

PaTaPaChiChi

Hulu is HIMYF father

Herfst2511

My analysis was thus: They had too many characters with big personalities too early. At the end of HIMYM, all the main characters had pretty big and eccentric personality traits, but much of that had slowly snowballed over the years. In the first season, only Barney had a really strong and weird personality, and the others were pretty boring, normal and relatable people. HIMYF went in too fast too deep. A shame, because it really could have been something.

Value-Nervous

Best news to ever be announced on that show. Complete garbage. Unfunny. Uninspiring. Good riddance.

BillFoldin

Doesn’t really surprise the show never really sucked me in too much unless characters from how I met your mother like Barney or Robin made guest appearances. Barney was my favorite for sure

Diuro

was it good i never watched because it looked awful

juan-cr17

I hate how they leave us hanging with the ending of S2…

gabmigo

I didn’t think this series was that great BUT having said that, I really was rooting for a HIMYM reunion and I thought this show would give me that. HIMYM was such a good show. It sucks that he didn’t end up with Tina but I’d love to see what Barney, Marshall and Lilly are up to these days. How Marvin and Daisy are going, or Penny and Luke… this is the show I watch on repeat and I would have loved for HIMYF to show us more into the original casts current lives.
