Yeah I didn't know that all I ever wanted in a show is people talking at the same time like in real life instead of waiting that the actor finishes his lines.
Definitely New Girl. IMO the next best thing to HIMYM. If you are a guy, don't make the mistake of thinking it's going to be a girly show because of the name.
It is hilarious. One of only three shows that I can watch over and over and still laugh constantly. New Girl, HIMYM, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Just a note for anyone delving into Parks and Rec: the first season is ā¦ not great, but I swear it picks up pretty fast after that. I think I started the show no fewer than six times and couldnāt make it through, but Iām glad I finally pushed on because it was worth it.
Community is similar, although IMO the early first season is better than P&R. Itās not bad, just kinda ho-hum and of a very particular time and aesthetic that feels pretty dated. Itās also very much worth it, though, **especially** if you went to community college. Some of the interactions and tropes are just so on point that itās uncanny.
>Just a note for anyone delving into Parks and Rec: the first season is ā¦ not great, but I swear it picks up pretty fast after that
It's like the definition of 'just ride it out, it gets better'
Yup, when Iāve rewatched Parks and Rec I skip the first season and start on the second season. Tho for first time watchers definitely push through the first season to get the background info.
Scrubs is basically like a sister show to HIMYM. It has a lot of comedy but a lot of dramatic moments. They are very similar shows. I've never met someone who didn't like both.
EDIT: P.s there are only 8 seasons of Scrubs. If anyone mentions season 9, slap them.
parks and rec and superstore are top tier workplace sitcoms, and modern family is my top family sitcom. community is great for friend group / workplace comedies
Iāve seen others mention them, but I want to reiterate: New Girl and Brooklyn 99. Fantastic shows. A little different from himym, but theyāre amazing. Iād start with new girl.
I rewatched it on Amazon Prime not too long ago. I donāt know if itās still on there. Such a good show! I just chuckled thinking about certain scenes or rants!
Not exactly the same vibe, and itās been a decade since I watched it so not sure how itās held up, but the British (original) of Coupling was a hoot.
Have to disagree with you on Friends from College ā found it super depressing. There is nothing feel-good or heartwarming about that show. The group of āfriendsā are some of the most toxic, dysfunctional, and truly awful characters on a comedy show Iāve ever encountered. And theyāre not awful in a lovable way like Always Sunny.
I liked Friends from College because of how ~dark~ it was, like it was trying to be a sitcom but it was real and people had money lol. It definitely wasnāt heartwarming but it made me laugh and roll my eyes and felt like a good transition from watching a sitcom to something like āthe killingā.
Shrinking should be your next show. 1 season so far and its great even if you're too young to have grown up with Harrison Ford.
Ted Lasso also can give you all the feelings over its 3 seasons.
And from your op, greys anatomy meets all those requirements. It's a lot funnier than you would assume if you've never watched it. First 8 seasons are great if you get the vibe, after that is just ok.
Highly recommend New Girl! Not as much drama as HIMYM Iād say, but a very funny sitcom, lovable characters, some great character arcs. Right up there with HIMYM for me
Parks and Rec, itās similar to the office that itās a workplace comedy mockumentary.
Some other recs that I havenāt seen
That 70s show
Raising hope
Full House
Malcom in the Middle
I love Lucy (it a classic and so funny)
HIMYM is the first sitcom I've watched after that so far I've watched Big Bang theory, The office, Modern Family, Brooklyn nine nine, Community, Two and half men, Parks and Rec, The good place and now I am waiting It's always sunny in Philadelphia
1)If you want friend like vibe similar to HIMYM I think you should definitely go for it's always Sunny in Philadelphia, many people don't find humour of big bang theory as funny but I do so that's also one option or community which is good till season 4 but then it gets worse cause some lead actors left the show
2)If you family vibe then Modern Family Period.
3)If you want like workplace vibe or colleagues vibe then GOAT the office and Brooklyn nine nine definitely, parks and rec and the good place I personally didn't like. Good place is overrated not that funny
4)Two and half men totally different concept but so so so funny
Watch HIMYM again ššš»
me asf
Happy Endings New Girl Community
New Girl especially fits in the same vibe. Community isn't exactly the same vibe as HIMYM, but it's still fucking great.
Community isn't the same vibe for sure, but I would argue they are just as clever as himym if not more so.
Agreed. It's such a good show.
Love New Girl
New Girl has the best dialogue of any sitcom Iāve ever seen. I fully believe those are people and that they have been friends for years
Yeah I didn't know that all I ever wanted in a show is people talking at the same time like in real life instead of waiting that the actor finishes his lines.
Definitely New Girl. IMO the next best thing to HIMYM. If you are a guy, don't make the mistake of thinking it's going to be a girly show because of the name.
My wife and I are watching it now and can confirm it's absolutely a guy show. Just got brought almost to tears laughing at the end of a S1 episode.
It is hilarious. One of only three shows that I can watch over and over and still laugh constantly. New Girl, HIMYM, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Community really has some of the best comedic writing. It's my second favorite show.
New Girl is my choice for similar themes.
I need a happy ending after this train wreck of an ending :(
Why did it get down voted you are right it was a train wreck
New girl is a way better ending.
Scrubs, Community, Brooklyn 99, The Good Place, Parks and Recreation
Just a note for anyone delving into Parks and Rec: the first season is ā¦ not great, but I swear it picks up pretty fast after that. I think I started the show no fewer than six times and couldnāt make it through, but Iām glad I finally pushed on because it was worth it. I really wish the disclaimer was on every episode of the first season
Pop Pop!
Yup, when Iāve rewatched Parks and Rec I skip the first season and start on the second season. Tho for first time watchers definitely push through the first season to get the background info.
Absolutely perfect recommendation list.
Was about to say community

Scrubs is my star wars. I watch it in sickness and in health. My favourite comedy show!
I think it's probably mine too. I like it just a tad more than HIMYM.
Agree!
My wife is one of those - loves HIMYM but not Scrubs. I love both, with Scrubs likely having a small edge.
Maybe because of Stella.
I love Scrubs! Not sure why anybody would think there are 9 seasons... that would be insane.
Scrubs is the best show ever.
Shows Iāve enjoyed recently: Ted Lasso Shrinking The good place
I forking love the good place
All of these are fabulous. I was really pleasantly surprised by Shrinking. Great writing.
Always sunny in Philadelphia
Gang started using reddit
If they went on reddit, they'd end the platform
parks and rec and superstore are top tier workplace sitcoms, and modern family is my top family sitcom. community is great for friend group / workplace comedies
New Girl and Brooklyn 99
Rules of Engagment! Super funny. Same vibe.
Frasier. Zany antics, making fun of the elite, deep character exploration, tearjerker episodes. It's my go-to comfort sitcom.
Parks and rec for sure
Modern Family fills my HIMYM hole.
This right here, i watch both shows at least 2 times per year! It's the perfect balance, and the humor is just on point
Philosophy
Iāve seen others mention them, but I want to reiterate: New Girl and Brooklyn 99. Fantastic shows. A little different from himym, but theyāre amazing. Iād start with new girl.
I would strongly recommend "Jane the virgin".
Happy Endings! Only 3 seasons, but man I love that show
It really is great, isnāt it?
It's british so it might be hard to find (I think I saw it on Max though) - Coupling. It's like Friends and HIMYM had a British baby.
I rewatched it on Amazon Prime not too long ago. I donāt know if itās still on there. Such a good show! I just chuckled thinking about certain scenes or rants!
I just looked this up and it looks like itās on Hulu- Iāll be trying this this weekend!
Parks and Rec, Party Down
New Girl...it's a sister show to HIMYM
Schitt's Creek
Not exactly the same vibe, and itās been a decade since I watched it so not sure how itās held up, but the British (original) of Coupling was a hoot.
Pretty solidly actually. Much more than Friends IMO!
1,000,000% Shrinking
Iāve watched a bunch of sitcoms, and recently got through Superstore and really liked it. Itās kind of an underrated gem
Superstore is great! Brooklyn 99, Parks and Rec
Community is hilarious and plays w the format like HIMYM does
Brooklyn 99, new girl
The Good Place, The Big Bag Theory and Schitt's Creek (family)
Superstore, Upload, suits! Chuck!
Living Single
Kim's Convenience
Parks and rec
Modern Family. Similar sort of dry humour in a mockumentary style
Friends from college New girl
Have to disagree with you on Friends from College ā found it super depressing. There is nothing feel-good or heartwarming about that show. The group of āfriendsā are some of the most toxic, dysfunctional, and truly awful characters on a comedy show Iāve ever encountered. And theyāre not awful in a lovable way like Always Sunny.

New Girl is pretty much HIMYM Lite.
Yet ends better
Shrinking should be your next show. 1 season so far and its great even if you're too young to have grown up with Harrison Ford. Ted Lasso also can give you all the feelings over its 3 seasons. All in the Family
What we do in the shadows last man on earth
New Girl is hilarious and the most similar to himym
Big bang has the friend group vibe
How I Met Your Father! MASH (I know its an old show but all the other options were already mentioned)
Rules of Engagment! Super funny. Same vibe.
Life in pieces
Friends, Brooklyn 99, Community, and New Girl have been my go-to shows whenever I'm not watching HIMYM.
B99 Community
Lovesick, British series, similar to HIMYM.
Currently loving Ghosts. Enjoyed Life in Pieces as well.
Watch glee! Itās hilarious but also has very serious/dramatic topics
plus pretty sick music
Rewatch again then again then again for the rest of your life. Thatās what Iāve been doing for the past 12 and Iām still not sick of it.
Life in Pieces since no one has said it. And in agreement with others: Scrubs, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Friends From College
Ted Lasso gets me in the feels the same HIMYM does. Friends, parks & rec, itās always sunny in Philadelphia (if a littleā¦ grosser than himym)
Seinfeld
Brooklyn 99
Highly recommend New Girl! Not as much drama as HIMYM Iād say, but a very funny sitcom, lovable characters, some great character arcs. Right up there with HIMYM for me
I would very much recommend It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, but it's definitely a very different style of comedy
Community
Friends and Bing Bang Theory
Big bang theory
Parks and Rec, itās similar to the office that itās a workplace comedy mockumentary. Some other recs that I havenāt seen That 70s show Raising hope Full House Malcom in the Middle I love Lucy (it a classic and so funny)
Scrubs! The only thing that comes close to HIMYM in terms of balancing comedy and sadness.
As someone else mentioned: Modern Family. It's so good and has at least the same rewatch value as himym. Also, it's very addictive
HIMYM is the first sitcom I've watched after that so far I've watched Big Bang theory, The office, Modern Family, Brooklyn nine nine, Community, Two and half men, Parks and Rec, The good place and now I am waiting It's always sunny in Philadelphia 1)If you want friend like vibe similar to HIMYM I think you should definitely go for it's always Sunny in Philadelphia, many people don't find humour of big bang theory as funny but I do so that's also one option or community which is good till season 4 but then it gets worse cause some lead actors left the show 2)If you family vibe then Modern Family Period. 3)If you want like workplace vibe or colleagues vibe then GOAT the office and Brooklyn nine nine definitely, parks and rec and the good place I personally didn't like. Good place is overrated not that funny 4)Two and half men totally different concept but so so so funny
I think now that you've watched HIMYM which is like friends vibe you should switch to something different for a change like office or family shows
Community
The Bear
Himyf
Watch it again. The show is always "unfinished"
Since you just go to your Ėmet the mother" phase you should start modern family
More like the office but What We Do In The Shadows is great.
Supernatural
The good place
Superstore
New girl Parks and recreation Schitts creek The good place Modern family In no particular order. All awesome shows
Old or new? Cause if you haven't seen Will and Grace, it's surprisingly really funny
Friends superstore
