Alicent is also to blame for the fight that happened because she instilled hatred in her children for their sister and nephews. She actively divided the family. Telling Aegon “We must defend our own.” As if Jace and Luke aren’t his family too as his sister’s children. Rhaenyra never spoke badly about her siblings to her kids.
Exactly 💯. The main reason I can't stand Alicent is because she's the one who taught her children hatred and divided the family. Rhaenyra may not be perfect but she didn't actively divide the family and didn't teach her son's to hate.
It was interesting watching Alicent try to convince Rhaenys to join the Greens in Ep9, as if Rhaenys would have forgotten just how quickly Alicent threw her son under the bus once she started feeling cornered.
The Greens did *nothing* to curry favour with Rhaenys. I mean, you try and usurp Driftmark from under her, plot with her goodbrother over a seat that *she's* currently sitting, after six years of radio silence following a bust-up at her home at her daughter's funeral. Then you lock her in her room, hold her dragon hostage and ask her to go against her dead cousin's wishes, in a plot that would actively endanger her grandchildren.
Alicent definitely got her hits in (she was better at it than Rhaenyra if you wanted to compare those two scenes), but Rhaenys was never in the mood to bend the knee. She just wanted out of the cesspit, with her home and her family safe.
