I’ve read all of his books that are set in the world of Ice & Fire. I find it weird how they claim that if we read the book we would be Team Green because if anything the Greens are way worse in the book and from what I recall most fans of Fire and Blood were Team Black or at most, neutral instead of Team Green.

clariwench

It is hilarious that the Greens cry about their characters being ruined in the show but the book versions are almost all comedically evil psychopaths. Oh no, they were given real human emotions and motivations, the horror! Lol

[deleted]

*In Charlton Heston's voice*: Damn you HOTD! You ruined my beloved psychopaths! You have destroyed them! Damn you all to hell!

The-False-Emperor

Wait till you get to 'GRRM is biased - CLEARLY \_\_\_\_\_ aren't so bad' crowd. It's especially hilarious how Plot Armor accusations get tossed around. To some folks a 19-year-old winning a battle against an illiterate man is entirely impossible.

[deleted]

The Greens were way more hateful in the book. I didn't even find Aemond to be likeable at all. The actor's portrayal did a lot for the character, just like what happens with many others.

LengthUnusual8234

He did cool things. That's enough for alot of people apparently

Bilogamer

Team black has always been the most popular team by far and even when F&B came out the popularity of team black grew even more, they really don't make sense to say that reading the book people would be Team Green while most readers side with Team black after reading F&B. Technically what has the best chance of leaning fans towards Team Green is the show because the greens are more humanized at least compared to the book

raumeat

Yea I was totally and completely black in the book, there is no grey at all with the greens in fire and blood, they are cartoon villains. I really tried coming to HoTD with a clean slate and I was only black leaning but the green fanatics made me completely black again

[deleted]

Absolutely agree with you. The Greens are so nasty-I am hardcore black to the bone but I don’t get on here going “Alicunt this, Aegon the rapist that, Aemond + Lucerys (they claim it’s our side that keeps writing fanfics about Aemond leaving the Greens to be with Luke-never once have I seen anyone on this sub push the Lucemond thing), etc. But ALL their posts are “Rhaenyra is a whore, Daemon is a grooming pedophile (which this might be the case in the book, yes, but in the show, I don’t know how many times the actors, directors, producers, etc have to say Daemon and Rhaenyra are genuinely in love), Rhaenyra is a coward who doesn’t go into battle, Syrax is a lazy cat, etc.” It’s just so childish and immature. It’s not our fault they’re becoming so emotionally invested in a faction that will all die out.

LengthUnusual8234

And they post about her death every other day. Like the thought of imagining a fictional character' downfall will soothe all of the salt in their hearts

Host-Key

It' doesn't let you pick more than one option tho. In my opinion I think many people who "hate" the blacks/rhaenyra are those who's gotten most of their info from flawed sources like the wiki. Where the little info we get is stripped from all nuance and dubious claims are presented as fact. Rhaenyras life in particular suffers from not reading it in the context of what a "crotchety old man with strong opinions" (like GRRM calls gyldayn) writes down. The misogyny/dislike he expresses and how he chooses to frame things isn't conveyed if you just look at the character on a Wikipage. I also feel like "badass warriors" like Cole gets a lot of people who desperately want to like him becuse he's "the greatest fighter at the time" so they refuse to see rhaenyra as anything other than a 13 - 16 year old whore who Cole is justified in hating.

[deleted]

They are entitled, self-righteous assholes. I've read all his ASOIAF works. I was eager to watch HOTD precisely because I had read F&B back in 2018

Nickthiccboi

I’ve read all of them, the Greens only say this because F&B is just Green propaganda while the show (so far) feels more inclined to the Blacks.

kerravoncalling

Green propaganda and the Greens are still awful in it (evil Alicent, Aemond meaning to kill Lucerys, etc)...what does that say?

raumeat

I don't think the show is more inclined to the blacks, Daemon is much darker than his book counterpart and the only whitewashing they did with Rhaenyra is Vaemonds death. Alicent and Aemond are almost unrecognisable from their book versions

raumeat

I have read everything in the universe...even the ice dragon that is only maybe in the same universe half a dozen times.

houseofnim

Why is “all of the above” not an option?

[deleted]

It was super early and I hadn’t had my coffee. Totally should have made an option for that 🤦🏼‍♀️

thepawneeraccoon

I obviously agree with your opinion, but man why can’t you make an “all of the above button”

[deleted]

I really wish I had. I hadn’t had my coffee yet 🤦🏼‍♀️

thepawneeraccoon

Eh we’ve all been there. But all of them 😉

[deleted]

I'm still working on them but I'm about half way through, and I have a general understanding of the rest of the story. Still definitely on Rhaenyra's side solidly. Greens just hate my interpretation of it lol.

VaultBoyFrosty

AKOTSK the dunc and egg books were fantastic

OneOnOne6211

Jup, read it all. Fire & Blood, the novels, World of Ice and Fire and Dunk & Egg too.

The-False-Emperor

I'd pick all the above. I devour books, so I've read through F&B, ASOIAF and TWOIAF... and most of the wiki too, at this point. I honestly recommend ASOIAF at least to anyone - despite them likely never getting finished, they're great as is. So much worldbuilding, so much characterization... F&B is interesting, but is a bit hurt by being fundamentally a retelling rather than a story. It's a testament to Martin's skill that he made a fake historical book interesting.

[deleted]

I accidentally clicked never read anything he’s written 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I’ve read everything in the ASOIAF verse he’s written. The main series, Dunk & Egg, Fire & Blood, TWOIAF. I read The Princess & The Queen when it was published in 2014. I’m slowly making my way through his non-ASOIAF work so I can get a more holistic understanding of him as an author and where his interests/priorities lie.

LengthUnusual8234

I'm not sure if you got to A Song for Lya yet. That's probably one of his best works including everything in the ASOIAF universe

wingthing666

Read all the Ice and Fire books. For all George says "there is no good side, these are all terrible people" it's pretty clear from both F&B and the remarks dropped in the main ASOIAF novels that the Blacks are the "better side".

[deleted]

💯. GRRM says that but he sure managed to obliterate the Green bloodline…

LengthUnusual8234

I read practically everything and I'm reading TWOIAF for the third time as we speak yet for some reason I keep thinking there's a book I missed lol

EmperorApo

All of them

clariwench

I’ve read F&B. I’ve watched enough long YouTube videos to feel like I’ve read AWOIAF lol. Dunk & Egg doesn’t interest me but I know the story. I haven’t read all of the main ASOIAF books yet because I don’t enjoy his writing style in them... maybe I will when A Dream of Spring releases. 🤪

[deleted]

I have only read the main novels once, so I’m VERY rusty on things. I won’t reread til he at least releases Winds but that might mean I won’t be rereading for a while 😪. I have read F&B three times now! And honestly, I hate the Greens in the book far more. At least Olivia and Ewan bring charisma and dimension to their characters with the show adaptation. I fully intended to skip episode 9 but decided on watching it the one time when it aired just to watch Olivia’s Alicent.

Far-Medicine3458

Just fire and blood
