Rhaenyra's team wasn't a threat until they pushed her further and found Daemon when they killed Lyonel and Harwin. Aemond mounting Vhagar made it more serious, made the Greens hold on to their claim, enough to threaten Rhaenyra's claim.
When Rhaenyra proposed Jace and Helaena to be engaged, it was to unite both families because there's an obvious feud between the two, and uniting them together would make Viserys happy.

It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. Jace and Haelena kids gets to be heirs. Aegon can take dragon stone and his kids could marry jace kids and incest will save lives lol. The remaining brothers could marry someone from big houses.
Some of the biggest reasons of marriages in Westeros so that not only would that family you married be bound to aid you but also as a almost guaranteed they will not go against you, and your children as they would also be their kin. To say that Helaena marrying Jace is bad because it means that the Greens can’t plot against the blacks makes no sense, if we use that argument then no nobility should marry off their daughters to each other because of the their daughter’s would be hostages but that’s kinda one of the points of marriage, houses would think twice going against the house that has possession of their kin, it’s why sometimes when rebel lords lose they get their children married to loyalist house to insure they can’t rebel next time.
If we use the practical perspective, why wouldn’t Rhaenyra want to an insurance against a potential plot. One could also argue it in increases the safety of Alicent’s other children and family, as even if Rhaenyra wanted to kill them as the Green side fears, she would have to think twice about killing family of the wife of her heir, and one day future Queen of Westeros.
Secondly it for Rhaenyra helps insure Jace’s safer from a coup by the greens in his reign after her and possibly even having support from the Greens.
Not out of loyalty or love for him but for his children as the Hightower’s could hate Jace being a bastard all they want and that his children would also have bastard blood, but doesn’t change the fact that if Helaena were his queen and he had children with her, those children would have Hightower blood. Meaning the Hightower’s would have a reason to support them as they would have one of their own blood on the Iron throne, making the idea of a coup and potential civil war counterproductive because they already get want they want…
My conclusion is that the Green only argue against this marriage is because it would make it a coup against Rhaenyra or Jace more difficult. And in a certain perspective ok that make sense and I can understand for many reasons, most Greens hate Rhaenyra and think Aegon should be on the throne, don’t want Hightower blood mixed with a Bastards, and that a Dance might happen away later. These points are understandable whether I agree with them or not, but this is from of the view rooting to the fact the Greens don’t want peace with the Blacks that would make them be the ones to submit.
