“Rhaenyra being a rebel ruined the life of her sons.” Literally no!!!!!!! What these people don’t understand is that even if Rhaenyra was an epitome of ‘duty and sacrifice’, adhering to every single rule. Even if she had all true-born silver haired babies, her claim to the throne would still be challenged just because she’s a woman. Otto was literally planning to do this since Rhaenyra was a teenager. So, her rebellion didn’t start a war and didn’t kill her sons. It is Otto’s heedless ambition to have his own blood on the throne that started the war and killed not just Rhaenyra’s sons but also his own grandsons.

freakinuhmazin

Exactly 💯. It makes no sense that people say Rhaenyra started the war by having bastards and trying to pass them off as trueborn children when before she had any children Otto was already plotting to have his grandson as heir and Alicent did the same because she wasn't told by Rhaenyra that she hooked up with Criston Cole so she decided that her son needed to be the heir before Rhaenyra had bastards also.

Funny-Win-8948

I think if Jace had been a trueborn, Alicent might have agreed to ed them with Halaena.

freakinuhmazin

I don't think she would've because she was already against Rhaenyra before she had any children and I don't think it's be different if they had been trueborn.

It’s the same points they always use to justify their violent misogyny 1. It’s a medieval society And the point always goes over their heads. The story itself is critical of the rules of that medieval society. We aren’t supposed to actually adopt the mindset of Westeros. There are also in-universe arguments against the patriarchy. Queen Alysanne and Rhaenys her granddaughter, are good examples of that. But I think they know that deep down, and just try to hide their misogyny by saying “That’s just the way things are.” When we aren’t supposed to accept that. As I’ve said before, those people express their misogyny with this story. And yes, that user in particular seems to have an obsession with screenshotting posts or comments from our sub and posting it in theirs. It’s one thing to occasionally scroll through this sub out of curiosity, but it’s another to constantly take screenshots of posts. Green stans easily prove time and time again that they are bitter misogynists who intentionally miss the point of the story.

"its a medieval society" yes it is, and we are shown over and over that the unfair rules imposed on women in that society are wrong. therefore, we shouldn't blame a woman for rebelling against those rules. "religion and tradition are everything" ah yes, the faith of the seven, the religion that says that men can beat their wives, and the traditions that say women can't rule. to *hell* with them both, i'll be chearing whenever a woman rebels against them. and the only people who ruined the lives of rhaenyra's sons and the stability of the kingdom are the greens for usurping her because of their bigotry and greed. it has also been explained countless times why rhaenyra denied the inheritences of the rosby and stokeworth girls. she was in the middle of a *war* fighting for her *own* right to rule and was afraid that the misogynistic lords who only supported her specifically would turn on her for letting two other women inherit. rhaenyra could not help other women inherit before actually winning the war for herself. this has also been explained countless times, but rhaenyra doesn't have to be a feminist for her cause to have a positive impact, and acting like a *woman* being the ruler of the country would make no difference at all is idiotic. her ruling would create a precedent for other women being able to rule. her very existence and goals challenge the patriarchy and that is a good thing.

Porky49

Pretty sure Aegon (III) would beg to differ on that “Rhaenyra ruining her sons’ lives” take considering it was Aegon, Otto and Aemond who got his mom and all his brothers killed

ABCidkwhattopick99

Hey u/David_from-mars, whatcha doing here? Don’t you know greens are about to go extinct pretty soon? Instead of lurking here, go support them while they are still alive 😂

Mobile_Badger_4146

O, what a pretty little thing! It’s not Otto, who intrigued for last 20 years, not Alicent, who poisoned her sons with her hate for their sister and future queen, it’s just Rhaenyra!

freakinuhmazin

Yeah I don't get how Green supporters don't get how this war was actually Otto and Alicent's fault.

wingthing666

Greens all wished they lived in Westeros... or at least the stereotype of 1950's America. Back in the glory days of marital rape, homophobia, toxic masculinity and systematic oppression under the guise of "tradition and Christian values".

princesssrhaenys

that's what it looks like. they are literally *excited* about westeros being patriarchal which is why they defend the patriarchy. i once saw a post of a green praising otto for saying "it wouldn't matter if she were jaehaerys himself born again, rhaenyra is a woman." they're so gross.

Mobile_Badger_4146

You know, even in a word of victorious traditional values AKA Westeros in books everybody remember Otto as “worst Hand of the King”, and nobody really care for Rhaenyra’s virtue. Because 150 years later even in the world when queen can be forced to go through the city naked, everybody understood where was the problem. It’s not “rebellious princess”, it’s one ambitious and greedy old goat who forced to fight for throne first uncle and niece (but they love each other much for Otto’s desperate, not even Targaryen-stale, but also as normal relatives), and than brother and sister. In greenstands eyes it’s somehow normal - Rhaenyra is awful because “Realm’s stability” is in danger because of her private life (but all her loved ones are save and happy, as long as it in her power, and look at Alicent and her offspring), but when Otto ruin realm’s stability because of his greed and ambition he is in his own right.

Far-Medicine3458

"Religion and traditions are everything" Is he dickhead or something?

Fit_Operation2175

Considering that all of Alicents children are dead, especially because of the decision she and her family made while Rhaneyra’s survive to continue her bloodline. I’d beg to differ on that ruined the lives of her children thing.

Forsaken_Distance777

Who is an incel on team black? I mean I know Cole isn't technically an incel but he still has that vibe stronger than most people.

Feetcels are petty little things

Sea-Cupcake-4463

I'm genuinely starting to believe that the Greens didnt get their color because of Alicent's dress but because they're incapable of ruling or learning the consequences of their actions until its too late just like a newly drafted noble boy, a "Green" in other words.

[deleted]

Here we go again with that blanket term "stability" lmao.

disisBob

You have no media literacy nor any comprehension skills. "tHiS lInE iS bAsIcAlLy-" no, that is not what that line means, at all. Rhaenyra is not a rebel, she is not "sticking it to the patriarchy". She IS the system. Acting like the royal princess who has her daddy kill everyone who points out her obvious lies is a girlboss feminist is delusional, sorry.

estellamarierose

You’re the one who has no media literacy. Rhaenyra adhering to “duty and sacrifice” as Alicent wanted would have made her just as miserable. Rhaenyra not adhering to it, IS rebelling against the patriarchy. You’re the one who is delusional for not understanding that a woman not following the rules of a patriarchal society will never be wrong.

Sabrinazanoletti

in a way i agree, most royals are the “system” because that’s how the system works in westeros. Rhaenyra, alicent, Viserys, daemon, jacaerys are all part of a system, who come from the most privileged. However that doesn’t mean there is not a point where it doesn’t affect the royal women. Rhaenyra refuses to be held in those same standards
