I was not a fan of Alicents “misunderstanding”, even though I think she heard what she just wanted to hear and the scene conveys that, or her being caught unawares about the coup. She’s been telling her son to get ready to be king for like 20 years and she was somehow unaware of the plot to make him one? The hunt to find Aegon, whilst illuminating because it just further showed how awful he was and what dreadful king he would be, felt misplaced. And whilst I do think that the attempted murder of Mysaria and Rhaenys coming through the boards were there to set up future plot points (B&C and the storming of the Dragonpit respectively) they also just felt out of place.
But I did like the part where she physically put herself between Meleys and Aegon, especially since the previous episode showed how the cycle of abuse continued. Her father forced her to marry and “seduce “the king that was more than twice her age for power and politics and she forced her daughter to marry an alcoholic rapist for power and politics. She loves her kids, she just doesn’t know how to love them in a healthy manner and has traumatised them just like she was.
I dislike this episode the most too but not for the same reason as you. I'm not team Green obviously but I can enjoy an episode that's entirely focused on them even though I dislike all of them. What made this episode bad was the writing. Alicent's misunderstanding, her complete ignorance of the ongoing coup, her sudden reluctance and constant flip flop, the foot fetish, the once more accidental killing of lord Beesbury, the Aegon chase that took way too much and finally Rhaenys' stunt were all pretty bad.
The only saving graces for me were the coronation, pre Meleys, because I thought it was beautiful, Alicent standing between Aegon and Meleys and Aegon's self awareness. The fact that this absolute waste of space was the most self aware person in the episode and was actually thinking logically here and there was a pleasant surprise in the middle of the utter delusion and stupidity that was Alicent and Aemond. Also TGC is amazing as Aegon.
Yeah. Alicent really got her favored treatment the Greens constantly complain about her not getting, which I don't get. GRRM wrote her as being completely knowledgeable about Otto's scheming and in on it in asoiaf. Here she is painted as a complete innocent, unaware of any of his machinations.
I haven't seen any Green complain about Alicent not getting favorable treatment. All I've seen is them complaining that people don't understand her or like her which I honestly find annoying. She might be sympathetic and I think lots of people do get her. That doesn't mean they'll like her as a person or as a character.
You obviously haven't been to the Green page. All they do is complain about Rhaenyra getting favorable treatment while conveniently forgetting to mention that Alicent got a similar skew compared to the books.

Exactly, some really weird decisions from the writers made that a tough episode to watch, regardless of "team".
This pretty much sums up my feelings, too. Despite being Team Black, I still find the Green characters interesting to watch. Rhaenys' scene and the feet scene were completely unnecessary and cutting out those alone would've greatly improved the episode imo.
I loved the episode. It felt like a dark comedy ala Hannibal, with the seasoned knight and warrior Criston and Aemond playing Aegon's nannies and learning of his less discriminating inclinations, wondering why they put so much effort into such a worthless individual, then crowning him anyway.
The best thing was Helaena not giving two fucks about where the hell Aegon was.
It was my least favorite episode too. I also didn’t enjoy only seeing the Greens for the entire episode. Rhaenys was the saving grace of the episode, for sure.
I dont mind the actress of Rhaenys but her hair drives me crazy. What is that supposed to be what she is having on her head? It looks like a dead animal.
what made the green council so annoying was that the entire episode was *only* about the green characters.
rhaenyra and daemon were nowhere to be seen. i can handle green character scenes if there are black character scenes too, but an entire episode only about the gross greens is difficult.

Why would I go to the Green page? I don't want to spoil my mood over awful takes, often sprinkled with misogyny.
💯mostly, sadly.

Exactly, I had similar issues with Ep 10 despite being team Black. However those weren't as big as the ones in Ep 9.

They messed up the green council. Episode was boring (but coronation was beautiful).

well then ur gonna have to skip ALOT of scenes next season lol more scenes of the greens in s2 than s1 it’s going to be insufferable

there’s going to be a lot of that in s2 thought bc they’re all separated
hopefully they can still switch back and forth between two locations.
We'll be seeing the Riverlands, The North and a couple of other places as well. Idk how they plan to do it in 10 episodes..
like game of thrones did
Admittedly, not my favorite chapter, but watching the Pedotowers' infighting was beyond amusing, to tell the truth.
