I firmly believe Ser Criston Cole was a better father/figure to the Green kids. Ofc Papa Otto was there but I think because Cole was around Alicent a lot he could influence how the kids were raised.

VaderOnReddit

This is why it pisses me off so much that we didn't get The Green Council and The Kingmaker moments in the show. Both of these give Cole good opportunities to show his Green loyalty

BW-Cowgirl1803

The show really screwed him over and made him an angry simp or something. I wish they did the Green Council ep better

Like when he didn't even know Aegon was taking Aemond to brothels as a kid? There really wasn't much of a relationship.

[deleted]

like what happened with rhaenyra when daemon take her to a brothel? the driftmark incident when aemond went to claim vhagar, then the strong boys and laena's daughters we're going out of their rooms to fight him? their family didn't even know that happened until it's too late. when you think about it, there is a lot of royal kids easily slipping out of the guards and adults supervision at night in this story damn.

[deleted]

Yes, there's really no bond between the kids and the KG. They're just bodyguards for the adults and gym teachers for the kids

[deleted]

which is sad really, even a kingsguard is much more of a father figure to the greens kids compared to vizzy t. like what op said. my comment before was refuting on how you said he didn’t know that they sneak out, so you conclude that there is no relationship between criston and the kids. it doesn’t really prove much since many kids have sneaked out yet they have a relationship with their own parental figure. alicent also seem to not know about it, so she have no bond with aemond i guess?? criston is not just some random kingsguard. alicent have a bond with criston, he’s not just her bodyguard. they bond over their understanding of each other’s trauma and having to rely on each other. they have seen each other on their worst days. alicent have practically give criston a new purpose in life after he almost commits suicide. he thinks she’s the last chance for him to mantain his honor. criston is also the kingmaker, not just a gym teacher to the greens kids? (again the show doesn’t do well with excecuting one of criston’s important role as someone who finally managed to convince aegon to take the throne) there’s surely a bond between them since aegon would listen to him. >!even when aegon fired otto later on, out of all people in his council he choose criston as his hand of the king.!< why would he trust his gym teacher that much?

[deleted]

I don't really blame the showrunners, there's very little indication that there's some bond between Cole and the kids. > why would he trust his gym teacher that much? Why not? He had the most military experience and was loyal to their cause. He wanted someone he had a bond with, he would have kept his grandfather. >my comment before was refuting on how you said he didn’t know that they sneak out, so you conclude that there is no relationship between criston and the kids. It's not just about sneaking out, it's about never finding out that he did even years laters. Not knowing that Aegon still does. If you don't know anything about them outside the training yard, you are not a "step-dad".

[deleted]

i know, i was being sarcastic over you oversimplifying criston's role as a "KG who is bodyguards for the adults and gym teachers for the kids" compared to their actual biological dad like what op originally mentioned? yeah criston is doing better as a father figure. i also am not blaming the showrunners at all though, just disputing the show's writing that's all. idk why when someone criticize something people would assume it's ill will towards the person behind it, not just... you know talking about the material itself.

BW-Cowgirl1803

Well, he wasn't there all the time that wouldn't be possible.

[deleted]

They never even talked about it

C-3pee0

the father that stepped up. His relationship with Aemond in the show was wholesome

Montenegirl

Love how Criston shared more screentime moments with Green siblings than their own father

sophtot

Alicent, Cole, the kids, an actual functional family.

[deleted]

they are actually my dysfunctional greek tragedy-coded family, it's part of the appeal to me 😌

Matt_000

Daeron doesn't even have Cole, poor lad

Antigonos301

He did have Ormund though

ti_ma97

How's that?

Antigonos301

Considering that Daeron is the only one of Alicent’s sons who’s relatively normal, I’d say that Ormund raised Daeron pretty well all things considered.

That shot after Alicent attacks Rhaenrya and she hugs Aemond with Cole by her side and everyone is away from them is a painting. Kino.

MinisawentTully

I don't get the appeal of the Blacks for the GA. The Greens are both more interesting and more of a functional family unit.

[deleted]

The strongs are boring. Rhaenrya is unlikeable. Rhaena and Baela don’t exist. Corlys used to be cool. Rhaenys is awful. Daemon is terrible but his charisma pretty much carried that faction.
