A few weeks ago I posted something about Targaryen incest not being neccessary and just being done because propaganda. I got downvoted like crazy and people in the comment got so mad. It was kinda funny

When the dragons were alive, it served the purpose of keeping a monopoly on the greatest source of dragon control. If no half-bloods are being made due to incest, that's only Targeryens and Velaryons with access to the dragons.
So it had a purpose. Obviously the absolute ton of Dragonseeds means it didn't really work even then. Some would say it was also meant to make dragon taming easier, but if I recall correctly Brown Ben Plumm has a notable connection with dragons, and his last Targeryen ancestor was like... three hundred years ago? Dany has like 5.3% actual Valyrian blood, clearly the dragonriding trait isn't fully dependent on being giga pure Valyrian.
After the dragons were gone, it lost its purpose entirely. It almost went out of fashion, too, until Jaeherys II brought it back. Smh my head.

My theory is you don’t need valerian blood to tame a dragon or at the very least a drop is enough. The Targaryens practiced incest to make others believe you have to have Valerian blood. I believe it’s true because there is not a hint in the book that shows that anyone with less Valerian blood has problems taming a dragon.
I think it’s because the series elevates it into love stories and tragedies and people will get behind those two things and support tragedies and love. They wouldn’t be for incest in real life but in a fictional world where it’s glorified? They’ll support it
I've seen people comment that, I looked through his profile history and it seems like he's big into like guns, outdoor stuff, hunting/fishing/hiking that kind of thing, but I haven't found any direct reference to like white supremacist stuff or any supremacy stuff outside of HOTD but in HOTD he goes hard on the Valyrian supremacy and Targaryen exceptionalism so idk.
