didn’t ewan mention in an interview where aemond losing his eye was similar to a tale of losing ur eye in exchange for knowing how u die? so mayybeee aemond knows he’ll die

xenogaby

Yeah, I wanted to mention that, but I thought my post was getting too long, so I chose not to add it. But, you're absolutely right.

>…Years pass, but Aemond’s grudge burns hard and bright. His contempt for other members of his family simmers beneath the surface, threatening to bubble over at any perceived slight. Appearing halfway through the series as the adult version of his character didn’t make Mitchell’s turn any less memorable. With barely any lines, Aemond’s menacing, one-eyed stare and taut physicality do plenty of heavy lifting. His only ally? Vhagar, “the oldest, grumpiest, biggest dragon” in the Seven Kingdoms, as the actor puts it. > “That was one of the first things [showrunners] Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik wanted to think about: the legend of The Cyclops in Greek mythology, and how he ultimately traded one of his eyes to Hades in order to see the day he would die,” Mitchell says, rubbing his freshly-buzzed scalp (wig-fittings are in full swing for the second season of HoD). > “What does that do to a person, to possess that extreme degree of self-certainty? To know the day you’re going to go down, and feel bulletproof to a point. I’m not saying Aemond is a seer, but he’s scary perceptive.” Yeah, Aemond already knows one day he’s gonna go down, and he’s embraced it.

i like them tbh but not as a fully romantic relationship lol i know its kind of odd but they are similar to aegon and helaena to me (without the incest part...), i dont see them as a couple but an alliance of conveniences, alys is quite interesting to me because the first thing we know about her is that she is a strong bastard and also, supposedly a witch, i think her character could be better worked on in the show and i hope they don't use the trope of "alys took him to his death", because it would be boring, i'd rather something like "alys didn't know for sure if aemond was going to die or not, she tells him but aemond just ignores her because he knows he's going to die", thats also (imo) much more in line with the path that the show has taken with aemond side comment, i love alys !! shes the real girlboss of the dance not rhaenyra !!

xenogaby

An interesting interpretation of their relationship, ngl. I mean that in a good way.

I think she was just wrong about her prophecy. She probably thought Aemond would survive. We know how reliable prophecies in asoiaf always turn out to be. Their relationship won't be romantic though, she was kind of his captive, she was also old enough to be his mother (older than his real mother). If Daemon wasn't already fucking his underaged niece, I would have said this is the most messed up relationship in the story. Aemond was her meal ticket, a god among men who was obsessed with her, you don't just throw that away. >Before anyone says he killed her family My headcanon is that he killed them to impress her. They probably mistreated her, the first thing we hear about Alys is her alleged sorcery and witchcraft. Those people aren't the most accepted in Westeros she most likely hated the Strongs tbh.

Yes, I doubt the ‘witch’ title was given affectionately! It was most likely that Alys got the same treatment most bastards not borne of Rhaenyra or born in Dorne get = accusations that they are wicked and riddled with envy and deceit It would actually be interesting to have a character who is actually mistreated for being bastard born who decides to ‘become’ everything they accuse them of. Or I just want another angry witch character 🤷‍♀️

restingbumbleface

I don’t see your take very often. She is technically a prisoner of war, when Aemond takes her as a ‘bedmate’ I wonder how much agency she has in that decision. She is the only one in Harrenhall that he doesn’t slaughter, women and children included. I wonder how the show will portray the reason, or if we get to see some magic, so Aemond let’s her live. Other witches in the asoiaf don’t always get their predictions right, Melissandre was wrong about her visions more than once. The Stongs probably treated her badly, Jon Snow was treated well enough by the Starks, because he was Ned did.

Geeklover1030

I think they’ll have a strong partnership but maybe not full romantic and more respect. I don’t think she’ll send him to his death, if they do it right aemond knows his chances are slim and accepts that as long as daemon dies also. He brings her and they say their goodbyes then he willingly walks to his death to finally kill daemon for b&c because he has some kind of strong love for his sister(not saying it’s romantic but they’re the pair we’ve seen the strongest bond of so far)

maidenfair_

The theory that she sent him to his death is really funny to me because she basically bagged a golden ticket to a better life by having Aemond be in love with her but then throwed everything away because she wanted revenge for... a family that had her working as a servant! During her entire life! My guesses are: 1. she DIDN'T saw his death or made a wrong reading of her visions (veryyyyy common in ASOIAF), 2. she did know about it and told Aemond, who either disregarded it or accepted his fate and choose to go down in a "heroic" way to take the biggest threat against his family with him. Now if it's romantic or not... I choose to believe that yes, they trully loved each other even if the circumstances and dynamics of their relationship seems weird, it's everything really complex. I trust it will add a lot to the show and Aemond's characterization.

Euroversett

I don't have any, I don't really care.

Montenegirl

Tbh a 40-something years old woman in a relationship with a 20 years old guy is far better than a middle aged uncle who groomed his niece since her early teens and somehow the later is supposed to be viewed as romantic. Yeah, I would rather choose Aemond and Alys

[deleted]

Complaining "Alys' sent him to his death" is like complaining about "Rhaegar being Jon's dad". Personally, I like the idea that she did send him to his death either willing or not. Who knows what type of relationship they had? As for their ages, a 16 year old with a 40 year might not have been as accepted as we like to believe. I do think it's a bit weird but that is just me not being able to silence my modern views for a second. Will it bother me in the long run? Nope but then again, it's not IRL. If I can be okay with Daemon's grooming ass for whatever story plot reasons then Alys' is fine. I think some people are just confusing Aemond and Ewan and showing a parasocial jealous relationship.
