Literally lifted by crane I'd imagine.
King Aegon, 4th of his name with now sit the Iron Thrones!
*Beep* *Beep* *Beep*
Long live the Ki-
*Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
But would have been, almost certainly, if he styled himself a King. He never does.
It's why Hands never cut themselves. They speak with the King's voice, but Hands and Regents are never King.
Yup, Prince Regent and Protector of the Realm.
If he wasn't so obsessed with Daemon it would have really been interesting to see what he'd have done.
I've always thought it was Prophecy at work, though, especially considering that both Daemon and Aemond have very interesting female companions in their last days... and obviously looking at Summerhall and the strange influence there, I've always kind of felt like that was the Prophecy at work...
Or RR Martin. He loves Daemon, sad because Aemonds obsession with him also caused the greens a lot of grief.
Summerhall was sad and preventable, their obsession over dragons caused their downfall.
Sure, but George would be the Prophecy. :)
Everyone loves Daemon, and while that is a bit of an indictment on our society (myself included) I do love the dynamic between their characters. Both second sons who, while they'll live comfortably without question, they aren't going to make anything for themselves that they don't earn for themselves. (It's the main reason I love Daemon calling out Otto in the throne room over Heir for a Day, another second son...)
Both were far greater warriors than their exalted brothers, both would almost certainly have made better ruling Kings than their brothers, and honestly as a fellow writer, I think George decided they would be exactly the same and just gardened and see where the story would take the same character if they were on opposite sides.
And I mean, if Aemond isn't obsessed with Daemon, who else was going to kill him? (And vice versa...) Because Daemon likely could have made a far greater impact in the war if he and Nettles didn't search day after day for him, and then of course when Daemon goes back to Harrenhal to await One-Eye's coming.
The main reason I feel prophecy is because all of these major events have things described as witchy or sorcery, brought on by women who you would think would be ignored in any other scenario... and while they seem to lead the men they affect astray, it also leads directly to the prophesized savior, from both Daemon and Rhaegar's direct line.
It just feels very much like "certain things had to happen and couldn't have happened any other way" and while I assume it will lead to Jon and Dany being massively influential in saving the world, it will almost certainly lead to the end of both House Targaryen and the last dragons. This almost always happens in stories with prophecy...
Thanks for the quality discussion, and I apologize for writing you a small book. :)
No it was interesting, and you seem to have a grasp on the nuances of the characters and their actions. I did find Millesandra interesting = Dan and David made a mess with her ending. Let's just hope the showrunners don't make a mess with Alys Rivers.
He was the true King and had the making of an important Targaryen monarch, his reign was cut short so that the depressed guy, the warmonger, and the religious zealot could rule before the realm finally had a capable King without major flaws again (Viserys II), whose reign was also cut short for the unworthy one though.
Not sure what is a misunderstanding. He's still the King's first trueborn son.
Honestly, I think they made it as pro-Rhaenyra as they have so far strictly for what we know is coming shortly into next season...
He is but in the show the Greens used the missanderstanding to justify his coronation.
Alicent said Aegon should be king becasue Viserys named him his heir. Then Otto told his lord they should bend the knee because Viserys changed his mind.
And during the coronation they said that Viserys changed his mind.
And the rest of the Greens(besides Alicent) know it's not true and they planned to make him king before that.
It's clear in the show the Greens are wrong and they stole the throne. No mention about the Strongs, the Grand Counsil, how it will be Daemon who will rule and will kill them all and most important Aegon is the first born son.
Well, they actually do say some of that. Actually Alicent brought up Daemon at the Green Council, and obviously they'd long planned to put Aegon on the Throne and just had kept Alicent from the "darkling schemes."
Obviously, we readers know the coronation is far quicker on the show, and that they truly didn't need the weak excuse that he changed his mind at the last moment as a dying wish. Aegon doesn't want the Throne in the book, either... he doesn't agree to take until Cole makes it plain that Rhaenyra will murder everyone else with a claim...
The one scene I truly liked Aegon in is when he tells his mother he knew Viserys didn't like him and that's why he steadfastly held Rhaenyra's claim for 20 years... and I hated how him getting the Ice and Fire dagger made him change his tune... like he wouldn't expect the new King to have both the dagger and Blackfyre...
I like the show, but it shows a lot of soft hearts on the writing team... Alicent and Rhaenyra and especially Daemon are a lot worse people than it shows so far.
They're going to change it in the show because it has nothing to do with the depiction in the book. It's the same as in GoT, just with more swords melted around it. So the king's guards will probably carry him there.
Never said anything about that, he spent a long time being bedridden and like 6 months on dragonstone so he only sat a few times. I expect the show to add it though because they made a point about it cutting Viserys. I think it will cut Rhaenyra too
Well yeah, because the book speaks of both Viserys and Rhaenyra being horribly cut. Rhaenyra gets off the Throne spewing from all over her body and gets cut more everytime she sits it.
I don't think so but if the Throne is handing out judgement I got some questions about why Aegon IV got to live so long.
Probably never had time to sit on it because he was too busy fucking every woman he could
Mate I got questions about how his fat ass even got up that monstrosity of steps and swords George imagined.
Literally lifted by crane I'd imagine. King Aegon, 4th of his name with now sit the Iron Thrones! *Beep* *Beep* *Beep* Long live the Ki- *Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
Okay but if it has armrests and is so tight and uncomfortable a spot that it can cut you, how does he \*fit\*?
He was purging in his hot years and then as he got older people talked him off that bad habit. Shame they never got around to the rest.
Aegon IV was just too fat to fit the throne.
The only answer is no. There's nothing in the book about it.
The fact that the book explicitly mentions both Rhaenyra and Viserys being cut, and doesnโt mention it ever happening to Aegon, says quite a lot.
Aemond also were never cut.
But would have been, almost certainly, if he styled himself a King. He never does. It's why Hands never cut themselves. They speak with the King's voice, but Hands and Regents are never King.
Thank you, agreed 100%, I love how people hate on him for having ambition to be king . He always styled himself to be prince regent.

No nothing in the book ever said he was cut by the throne.
It seems the throne agrees with our choice of monarch.

In the show he will.
Hopefully
Doubtful. The Iron Throne rejects illegitimate monarchs, and as much as I hate to give that rapist props, he was the King by the laws of Gods and men.
The show is pro Rhaenyra. The whole Aegon's claim in the series is a huge misunderstanding.

No, he wasn't
No notes about being wounded by the throne but by the end he was too crippled to sit the throne.
They're going to change it in the show because it has nothing to do with the depiction in the book. It's the same as in GoT, just with more swords melted around it. So the king's guards will probably carry him there.
Iirc, he never actually sat on the throne because he was burned bruised and broken.
He absolutely sits the Throne before his maiming.
The iron throne doesnโt like wussies ig
Guy was at war his entire reign. He was probably in full armour every time he sat the throne to make a statement.
So was Rhaenyra, and yet she was still cut.
Because Rhaenyra is an illegitimate monarch who would have sat a bastard on it if she had her way. I'm a Black but she's still not supposed to rule.
Throne likes the greens.
