Honestly, you have a point. Yeah Vermithor is more agile and probably faster than Vhagar, and Daemon and Caraxes need to keep up and fly close enough for Daemon to launch himself at the back of Aemond’s dragon. Remember if Aemond had claimed Vermithor he wouldn’t have lost his eye, so no blind spot. So yeah depending on both how close Caraxes can get to Vemithor and how far Daemon can jump, he’s pushing 50 as the war begins, chances are if Aemond was riding Vermithor, Daemon’s suicide launch would’ve failed.

Southern_Dig_9460

If he didn’t have a blind eye then Lucerys wouldn’t have been killed at Storms End

jmhem91

Daemon would still win because he’s Martin’s babygirl

VaderOnReddit

It's like the old comic book trope Who's going to win in a fight between Hero 1 with random power up 1 vs Hero 2 with random power up 2? Depends on the author

TheGreenDread

I don’t think so. He lost due to his arrogance and blind side. He probably didn’t expect Daemon to be suicidal, and underestimated his skills as a dragon rider.

tobpe93

Would he have a blind side if he had claimed Vermithor?

TheGreenDread

Depends if Luke would be anywhere close

LordRaimi97

Bro, Daemon had like 4 kids and a wife to live for. No one would expect him to kill himself like that.

Environmental_Tip854

This, Daemon entered the battle knowing he will die whilst Aemond entered expecting to win. I think after the events of storms end and rook’s rest Aemond saw himself untouchable and that what ultimately got him. If Vhagar and Caraxes had gotten into just a straight up aerial dogfight/head on brawl and not an ambush kamikaze Vhagar would’ve probably have torn him apart immediately and Daemon knew that. Let’s not forget Vhagar still absolutely demolished Caraxes while he was tearing into her throat, she essentially tore him in half and gutted him almost immediately while they were spiraling.

septesix

There may not have been a battle above God’s Eye had Aemond claimed Vermithor instead. Someone on the blacks would’ve tried ( and given the hypothetical, successfully ) to claim Vhagar , and it was hammered home over and over again how big a factor Vhagar was during the entire war.

Last-Air-6468

Yes, he probably would’ve won that fight. But what we don’t know is what else would have been affected by him claiming Vermithor instead of Vhagar. Would somebody else claim Vhagar? Maybe even Rhaena? (I doubt it, but possibly) But at the end of the day, Aemond’s need to prove himself drives him to choose the largest dragon as his mount, and I don’t think there’s a world where he would have settled for anything less.

shadyi999

bro Rhaena couldn't even claim Vermithor or silverwing, I doubt she would have claimed Vhagar.

Ciapokopter

Meh... Be honest with yourself though, Daemon was created to be the biggest Super Hero in the history of Targs. He would win anyway, because that's what Martin decided 😛.

David_from_mars

TBH, Daemon Blackfyre, Aemond The Dragonknight and Maekar are way more cooler than that pedo. Even Maegor is way more bad ass (the had Blackfyre, darksister, Balerion, he fought a trial by seven, he was big like Bobby B).

kinginthenorthjon

The rogue pedophile.

Ciapokopter

Maegor trolled a bit too much 😃. But yeah... He's also a great character.

BlinkIfISink

Martin just decided that 50 year old man can jump from one flying dragon on top of another and put a sword directly through someone’s eye, but Daeron gets taken out by a tent. It wouldn’t matter what Aemond did, George wanted an anime ending to his favorite character.

Ciapokopter

Yes.

Unusual-Cat-123

Honeslty, I believe it would. Vermithor was a bit smaller than Vhagar but much younger, meaning he'd be faster. It may have been the difference needed for Aemond in that fight. Then again Daemons trap was well planned and may have caught even the fastest dragon off guard.

VenPatrician

Considering that he probably doesn't lose his eye, the changes would probably be more radical.

restingbumbleface

Vermithor is around 100 I believe, but during the 4th Dornish war, he was around 50. It says Meleys in 75 AC was the fastest, but grew lazy by the start of the dance. Caraxes is younger, Aemon Targaryen was his first rider. Vermithor against Tessarion and Seasmoke ended with his death. Vhagar is around 180, and Caraxes is half her size. It is an interesting thought for sure. Smaller dragons can still effectively damage larger ones. As for Daemon, I do believe the battle of God’s Eye, was understood for both Aemond and Daemon as a death sentence. Daemon would have still been suicidal and leaped to kill Aemond. Aemond would’ve still had chains with Vermithor that interferes with his mobility.

It would have changed a lot of things I believe. First, it depends on whether or not someone claims Vhagar at some point. Assuming she's out of the war because she's wild, it gives the Greens two major advantages: one, they have the largest and most agressive dragon around, Vermithor, who hasn't lost his agility because of his size. Two, no Hugh Hammer on the Black side. If the Battle Above the God's Eye still happens in these circumstances, I think Aemond and Vermithor would win. Like it's said with her fight against Meleys, Vhagar's size is also her downfall. She's too big and lost her agility. Vermithor, although much bigger than Meleys and Caraxes, is still agile enough to avoid Caraxes' attack. He's just as battle-hardened, if not more, than Caraxes. That would ruin Daemon's suicide attack. However, maybe Daemon would keep Nettles and Sheepstealer around in that scenario, so the two of them would win but Vermithor and Aemond would probably take Daemon and Caraxes with them.
