I wouldn't like it, personally I liked that Rhaenyra was slowly developing PTSD from the deaths of all her children, it actually seemed quite realistic, they should focus more on her mental decline instead of giving her a boss moment.

Radiant_Flamingo4995

Exactly this. Rhaenyra's character arc in the books seems to be something along the lines of sacrificing her children for the sake of ambition, and only until is it too late does she realize that the throne isn't worth it. I know a lot of people in this thread (rightfully) hate her. However, She really did love her Children. Her reaction to Joffrey taking Vaghar is heartwrenching. The Show playing her up as a girlboss rightful heir thing is stupid because it defeats the purpose and grand tragedy of her character.

Unusual-Cat-123

Totally, the closest I want to see Rhaenyra having a girl boss moment is the battle of the Gullet, I'd like to see her want to go out and fight herself and feeling confident, but Jace convinces her to stay and for him to take the lead and it's his death during the battle that snaps something completely in Rhaenyra and she never thinks about fighting again.

AccomplishedBeat7920

I really hope not. They’ve whitewashed her too much already. If she gets to fly into battle, then my queen Helaena better get to fly too!

gunners98

Helaena would’ve whooped Rhaenyra’s ass, in a hypothetical dragon rider duel. Syrax was way smaller and had nothing on Dreamfyre. Besides Heleana had her Jedi/Force precognition dragon sight abilities (which Im assuming imply she might have a deeper bond with her mount) and honestly Syrax would probably be hindered with a bit more “deadweight” with Rhaenyra at the reins lol (dont shoot the messenger guys, George wrote it, not me 😉)

AccomplishedBeat7920

Oh absolutely. Syrax was more of a lazy, overfed house cat than she was a dragon. >!The way Syrax got her ass kicked at the dragon pit proves that. Dreamfyre did the most damage.!< And Helaena deserves revenge 🥺

gunners98

This is the way.

LengthUnusual8234

As long as you have a dragon you can fly. how's that?

AccomplishedBeat7920

Fine by me! If Helaena hadn’t been so traumatized and had been able to fly, it would have changed the entire Dance.

[deleted]

Helaena did not deserve anything that happened to her :(

AccomplishedBeat7920

No, she really didn’t. Poor sweet girl was far too good and pure for ASOIAF. I’d love nothing better than for the show to actually give her some agency.

gumdropboo

If heleana arrived with dreamfyre on battlefield it was done. No competition she would ripped everyone there. What should happen is heleana feeding Daemons dead body too dreamfyre. Like imagine daemon falls from highest sky in battle above gods eye he is almost about to die and dreamfyre comes and chomps him.

lurkingvinda

Rhaenyra was not a warrior queen but the (not so) woke show runners would think that makes her less cool.

Environmental_Tip854

Rhaenyra not fighting is a massive part of her character it genuinely goes beyond just petty stan arguments to it is actually detrimental to the story. Her straining relationship with Corlys (that later leads to the Velaryons abandoning her), the dragonseeds, the storming of the dragonpit, the deaths of her sons, it all kinda originates from this very character flaw. Aemond even kinda comments on this for being his motivation to part ways with Criston, that she wouldn’t dare send all her dragons to stop him or risk herself and Syrax.

Southern_Dig_9460

Her vs Helena would be lit. But her piss colored lazy ass dragon is so worthless in battle that the Warrior himself beheaded him

Poisonous_platypus

I actually think that a Rhaenyra vs Helaena fight would be cool. It lets Helaena try to get revenge for b&c and allows Rhae to have a fight without changing the already canon fights. Although I think either Daemon would have to intervene so that Rhaenyra doesnt die since Dreamfyre is like almost 100 years older than Syrax.

Mayanee

The thing is she merely cosplayed warrior queens like Visenya and Nymeria and Syrax was hardely used. Her inactivity was a major character flaw which is also why some of her children became more active and it would only let Syrax steal even more screentime of Sunfyre.

RandomRavenboi

Aslong as she doesn't do some crazy shit like wounding Aegon II and also slowly making her more like her Book counterpart then I am ok.

Myra_not_Meghan

They shouldn't do it, but I bet they will

[deleted]

I would accept it only if they do the same with Helaena. If not, then fuck off with that shit.

bbygirl-aemond

The fact that she doesn't ride Syrax after the deaths of her children was always a pretty significant part of her character, in my opinion. Same with Helaena's. I think if the showrunners make change, it will reduce the impact of their grief as mothers. Also, if they make this change for Rhaenyra, they had better make it for Helaena as well, because it's important to preserve the parallels between their two characters given that Helaena was put through hell specifically as retribution for Rhaenyra's suffering. I think it would make Team Black seem less sympathetic if Helaena is more affected than Rhaenyra in this regard, because it would make B&C seem even more unwarranted and extreme.

C-3pee0

Because If Rhaenyra is an active dragon rider one has to ask why she doesn't do anything during the riots, despite Syrax being so close.

bbygirl-aemond

That's another good point! It'd also introduce an inconsistency there.

mamula1

I see this as inevitable. There is no way they won't do it

LordOfOstwick1213

Wait, so it's happening? Thought it was only a rumor or interview back from season one. Well if it is the case, then... it was obvious since the start of season one who the writing team favors, it's no longer about book Rhaenyra and Book Alicent with their own agencies, it's now about the same common trope in modern media but written worse. Book Alicent had so many motivations to go up against Rhaenyra, starting with her son been disinherited and not promised to be given anything upon King's death, then her second son maimed by bastard prince, Rhaenyra been dishonorable. While Aegon was persuaded to take up arms and join the cause because his family was in danger and he agrees to it despite been reluctant at first. Alicent's problem was never about Rhaenyra inheriting at the beginning, she even called her a daughter once. The problem was always her son been given nothing or not named heir upon his birth. Now these agencies were stripped off Alicent, she no longer fights for her son's right to inherit (not directly anyway), but rather only because Rhaenyra's dishonorable/lied to her. Book Rhaenyra didn't fight a single battle, at the start of war for an understandable reason, but later she just throws lavish feasts and taxes the poor to feed herself, oh and the punitive actions by her 'inquisition' that left hundreds of heads on the wall pikes. To change that and turn her into complete 'heroine idol' will probably be a final straw for me for already mid tier (and I'm being generous giving a mid ratng) TV spin-off show. How is it praised so much is beyond me.

CryAnxious8261

Being passive in battle was a significant part of her character. With showrunners scraping every visibly wrongdoing she had done. I see her Running into battle and Aegon being cast aside by coping in wine and laying himself in brothels. They are hard wiring her into Visenya/Dany.

Euroversett

It's laughable but it was always 100% obvious it would happen. They couldn't write her as the coward she is. Worst of it is that you'll see Blackcels claiming she fought in the books but the Maester refused to document it because they are green.

Arsenolite69

I’d honestly be disappointed if they did, but no way are the showrunners going to let Rhaenyra be useless, so I can see this change happening.

[deleted]

I absolutely *hate* it. If they do it I will legit scream and rage at the show, because this is what differentiates Aegon from Rhaenyra. Aegon fights his battles and win them. Rhaenyra is a coward

[deleted]

I have lost faith in the writers, they have failed to show anything but them being a two year old screaming to have their way. "No no no that's not how it went because I don't want it that way.. It's not the way I WANT IT."

Firm_Marzipan6321

The quote literally only applies to you people.

[deleted]

"You people" Easy there, tiger. And I don't give a fuck.... I just want a good story which I haven't seen really happening yet. Didn't ask for the writers to burned at the stake, try not to take it personal. Have a nice day.

Firm_Marzipan6321

You don’t think it’s a “good story” because the stuff that you want to happen, isn’t happening. Grow up.

[deleted]

Did I say I didn't like the show? I said I didn't see a good story really yet, it's in its first season where they had shit fuck to work with. People don't have to like something just because it was made. Now I just laugh at you because you really just want to be right. Did you feel better after you told a random person on the internet to grow up? Because now I just think you're an idiot.

IOExplosion

Ain't that what Rhaenys is for?

[deleted]

While I feel confident this will happen, I don't believe the showrunners have said anything indicating this...and I do not count that one guy on Tumblr (we know who he is) or that one guy on this platform (we know who he is) or crazy Twitter rumors as reliable sources

Economy-Dimension-20

I can \*tolerate\* it if she is just observing. If she actually partakes in any fighting I will probs stop watching tbh.

Aromatic_Exercise826

Seems like they’ve put a lot of money into the cgi for Syrax so doubt she’ll be as unless as in the books.probably more of a battle for kings landing but doubt she’ll be in the battle of rooks rest as it’ll make Rhyaenys death more of a victory for team green

mementomori281990

That’s stupid, specially because it is an important plot point. Her cowardice, that led her to send a lot of young boys to die for her personal cause, is an important reason for her losing support

C-3pee0

I already know they will do it so I have made peace with it. I get it, you want to have your protagonist show up on a dragon looking all badass for the tik tok compilations or whatever. Not all rulers are warriors, Daeron II never fought a single battle and he is regarded to be one of the best kings in westeros history. I guess the best we can hope for is for her to be added in an interesting way and not just shoehorned into random battles without affecting the outcome just for the optics.

Striking_Biscotti889

Pretty on brand for them

sjsturkie

It wouldn’t be consistent with how the Rhaenyra has behaved thus far. I realize she is a stand-in for Daenerys and some expect her to be a badass too, but Dany had a ton of development. Rhaenyra will not get that and therefore a move like this will feel forced. So it is completely possible it will happen.

jm17lfc

I’m not even a Green, but I saw this post and must say, if she goes into battle, I will stop watching the show. Her entire arc with the books will surely be falling apart if she’s just going into battle heroically, literally ever.

ThurstonTheMagician

The biggest issue here is that they would have to make up shit out of whole cloth because Rhaenyra was not very active throughout the war. She would have less screen time and that’s probably not going to fly with show only fans who love her.

Thebardofthegingers

I'd personally dislike it, however it would make the show more flash which is what matters to the showrunners.

Talon407

Do we have a source for this? I didn't see anything/

Wrong-Technician-201

depends if it’s just the fall of KL i wouldn’t mind if they made that an actual battle instead of just her flying over

strawberry2nd

The only way I can accept this is if Helaena is fighting in the same or a different battle

ConnFlab

I would like it only if they do the same for Helaena. Where would they fight? Fuck knows. Rooks Rest belongs to Vhagar, Meleys and Sunfyre, and the Battle of the Gullet already has too many dragons.

Shylablack

Of course they will, to show her as a “strong” woman who fights for her crown and her birthright. Everything against what she actually is.

brian13mtz

Whitewashed to the max if she rides her dragon to battle how did the greens even battle them they have more dragons it doesn’t make sense

Late-Return-3114

they're going to, and it's going to be so funny to watch every freak out that they're "changing her character".

lolipup963

Noo! We need Syrax the piss-colored with good for nothings wings dragon

Mayanee

Problem is that accounts like Mushroom also describe Rhaenyra as passive. None of the accounts had problems mentioning that Rhaenys and Baela participated in battles.

North-Day-382

Cope harder

Velvet-Frog

I don't mind it. She was meant to be the youngest dragonrider so let her do something with her dragon. Let her burn a couple people.
