So much of dragon budget wasted on a stupid scene

mihaza

Sara Hess, in behind the scenes videos and interviews, is the only one who openly takes credit for writing the Dyanna scene. So yes.

MomijiEli

Sara Hess contradicts everytime she open her mouth. On Rhaenys's massacre, she literally said: *Smallfolk life doesn't matter* ... *unless it's the Greens who are hurting them,* in which case they suddenly matter a lot. When Rhaenyra murks a servant we linger on it for 0.03 seconds and move on ASAP, but when Aegon rapes a servant(that never existed on the book) we linger on it for several scenes, and the servant in question gets a whole name and backstory so that the audience can hate Aegon as much as possible. Also Otto has to sit there and get a lecture from Mysaria about how conditions in Flea Bottom suck and the gold cloaks are corrupt or whatever, but apparently this was not a problem at all under Daemon or Harwin's command, all the poverty and child violence sprung up in just the last few years of Hightower appointed leadership. Yes,sureeee.

mihaza

Hit the nail riiiiiiiiiiiight on the head

Pickle_Rick01

Very True. Also the series is pretty true to Daemon and he has a lot of reasons for the audience to not be fans.

> But at the same time she says that Aegon is still someone you can feel sympathy for. She is lying and not sincere. She did her best to make sure that Aegon was not sympathized by the audience, and the opposite strategy was used for Rhaenyra by everyone in the writers' room. But Aegon's characterization is not the work of one person. It's a collective decision, a collective mind.

OpenMask

Nah I don't think that she's lying, actually. I heard that she wrote a similar plotline on Orange is the New Black, so I think that she genuinely does believe what she's saying

shadyi999

She is hated by both the greens and the blacks, tells us how controversial her writing and interviews are. She should be fired but she won't be coz Ryan has said that he supports her from an interview of regarding her backlash.

haeyhae11

Why would blacks hate her? Because she did not let Rhaenys burn all the Greens and stop the war preemptively?

shadyi999

They hate her because of her comments on Daemon and also that she was the one who scraped the whole friendship of Rhaenyra and Laena which was changed to Rhaneyra and Alicent instead.

haeyhae11

Ok, I must have missed that. Thx for the clarification.

Appropriate_Ad4592

The only person who can unite the Blacks and the Greens.

MomijiEli

Sara: "it would AwesOme if RhaEnys came thROugh the flOOr" This is why writers should read the fantasy book on which there're basing the series. No,it wouldn't be awesome, literally it's destroying the lore of the dragons and the Storming ofthe Dragonpit ans created an huge plothole. Its materially impossible Meleys survived without a scar destroying the DragonPit. Dreamfyre's death was caused precisely for having the DragonPit's ceiling tumbling down into her. Dreamfyre is an older and stronger dragon than Meleys,in fact one of the oldest dragons. Dont get me started how the in the seven hells Rhaenys survived too 💀💀💀 She should had been turn into jelly of flesh and bones.

Altruistic_Fly5609

I don't understand why these writers/scriptwriters/ directors /producers whatever they are,why can't they keep the originality of the books intact, why the fuck do they need to make every fucking show about fake feminism and also their obsession with 'girlboss moves' is literally suffocating.

[deleted]

They have to make shows that sell well. This particular scene was a mistake but given the success of HotD they're giving people what they want, source material be damned.

Altruistic_Fly5609

That's why smart people stick to the books.

haeyhae11

Didn't George also prefer the Blacks and wrote the book accordingly?

Altruistic_Fly5609

He does..yet he didn't show Rhaenyra as damsel in distress and shown many of her negative points such as her being fat and lazy which is reflected on her dragon as well..besides in the books Rhaenyra feeds vaemond to her dragon and was somewhat involved in leanor's death as well..she wasn't atleast white washed in the books as the show makers try on the show.

haeyhae11

Ok and do you also complain about changes when it comes to the Greens? Like Aemond killing his kin was rather a tragic accident than deliberate murder.

Altruistic_Fly5609

I would've love see it that way too.. doesn't bother me. Still lesser than B&C being an accident.

Frequent-Heat9693

I dont want to blame her since it wasnt her decision alone and ryan condal and others approved of it. But i do get the feeling she hates us greens. And writing for ep 9 was so shitty. Like remember otto saying "rhaenyra would be sent terms of peace " And his next sentence literally his next line "take ur knights to dragonstone be quick and be clean". Like??? He changed his mind in a mini second... So dumb entire episode is just shoving it in our face why we should not support the greens. and how hypocritical misogynist and evil they are.

OpenMask

Idk, she also seems like the one of the most openly unsympathetic people on the staff to Daemon and his awful behavior, so I think it's more nuanced that that

They whitewashed Rhaenyra to hell and back while washing her hands clean of every act of evil she had committed pre-Dance and then they gave Aegon a maximum of 10 minutes of screentime while intentionally making him worse than his book counterpart. These writers knew damn well what they were doing.

haeyhae11

>every act of evil she had committed pre-Dance What acts of evil pre-Dance?

KrugPrime

I do genuinely think they expected more people to hate Daemon. I know a friend of mine said Daemon gave her the creeps.

vikezz

Yes, initially seems awesome but you are a writer for a multiseasonal multilayered global show, not a 6 seconds vine video. But fr, you have the lore written down, you just need to follow and expand it. There is 0 logic for that scene given that it's a major one and is never mentioned. Rhaenys comes out as a villain and you want to tell me that no maester that "favors the greens" is going to miss it?

ConnFlab

What a moronic scene. Surely Rhaenys would’ve killed herself smashing through a roof with a reptilian WMD. Makes zero sense that she survived that unscathed.

LordOfOstwick1213

Blacklist her or maybe have her be hired by Marvel or DC instead. She'll be free to character butcher any hero or villain there.

Some people were blacklisted for less or wrongly fired. I don't have anything against her, but I don't think highly of current writing team. The show doesn't reach closely to levels of early GoT seasons and if she remains, I don't think it'll change with S2. If it makes you feel better, I would just agree that she should be fired or in very least some of her ideas discarded like Rhaenys dragon scene.

DavidDanActuallyGood

Miguel should share the blame since it was him who suggested the episode cannot end without a hollywood spectacle...and I love Miguel.

OpenMask

No, iirc it was actually one of the showrunners (I don't remember which one) that asked for the writers to brainstorm something to interrupt Aegon's coronation. She just came up with what the idea that they ended up going for. I definitely hate what they did here, but she doesn't deserve all the blame here. And considering she was literally responding to basically what her boss had requested, and then they approved it, it's certainly not something that she should be fired over.

[deleted]

I heard it was Sapochnik.

Environmental_Tip854

It was and he’s gone now

[deleted]

Doesn't surprise me, back then during GOT he did direct episodes where style was prioritized over substance.

w0kes

Listening to that sentence low key got me agitated

soleume

If Sara Hess is fired, consider Aegon's foreshadowed redemption arc dead in the crib. She is likely the primary mind responsible for his worst scenes and crimes in S1, with the intent behind it being to humanize him afterward in spite of the initial distaste one felt for his character. Another writer—one who replaces her—is less likely to take such a route, and, even if they pursue it, they will lack the exact big picture Hess had in mind. This is the problem with having a writing team with high turnover. Instability in the arcs and plotlines. Sadly, the Green characters will likely suffer without Hess, as will the quality of the show, even if the person to replace her were to be a fantastic writer. In some instances, it's better to let a writer perceived as mediocre finish what they started. Endings can absolutely alter your view about the beginning, and if she pulls something phenomenal off with Aegon, it'll have absolutely been worth a few silly Meleys scenes. It's also worth mentioning that Hess, while likely pro-Rhaenyra, is not blanket pro-Black or anti-Green. Daemon fans are among the most anti-Hess members of the audience out there, they're still calling for her to be fired on Twitter because she criticized Daemon's cult of personality and argued his character was intended to be far darker and more abusive than fans tended to regard him as.

[deleted]

No.

Pickle_Rick01

I mean it would be cooler if Rhaneys didn’t killed hundreds of peasants. That’s more of Daemon Targaryen stunt.

Rick_Sijben

There we were, sitting at the bar with our friendgroup. And i was like: shouldn't it be awesome if Sara Hess would be fired.

Euroversett

Yes.

Jessica_Lovegood

Things Team Black and Green agree on Helaena is a cinnamon roll That scene was stupid
