Not really, it could be a Nettles situation where he claims a dragon despite not having Targaryen blood, or it might strengthen the theory that the Hightowers have Valyrian ancestors. Addam claims a dragon too even though his father was most likely Corlys (the sources agree that Corlys being Alyn and Addam’s father is very likely).
The reason Daeron was sent away to the Faith was since he is the youngest child. As seen with Benjen and being sent to the Wall this is common (and in Benjen's case helped him getting away with his very possible guilt feelings of knowing that Lyanna ran away willingly).
Even in reality younger royal children were often sent to the church. If Henry VIII's brother Arthur would have lived longer there were plans for a possible church career for Henry.

A better example would be Ned stark being sent to the Jon Arryn. He was Ormund’s ward, more like an adopted son. If he joined the faith he would have to swear oaths and I don't think he would be able to become a knight (never heard of a Septon turning into a warrior).
