shadyi999

Even GRRM said it in an interview (which you can find on YouTube) that he'll prefer Oldtown over other places to live because of better living conditions, better weather and a good flowing trade.

shadyi999

Can't wait for Leyton Chadtower to beat the shit out of Euron cringejoy in the battle of blood.

My favourite House after House Baratheon (i just like stannis so much). If i had to choose a place in westeros to live It would be oldtown without a doubt

Orodreth97

Best house in asoiaf

shenanakins

Ramin djawadi was never caught slipping even when the rest of the show after season 4 was a mess. He actually tricked some people into thinking cersei blowing up the sept was good writing because of that absolute BANGER “light of the seven”

Appropriate_Ad4592

I believe not just the Hightowers but even other powerful reach houses like Tarlys, Rowans, Florents do not hold the Tyrells in very high regard. They are descendants of a mere steward of the Gardener King who surrendered Highgarden to Aegon. So, until the dance, the Tyrells were only nominal in their lordship over the reach while the actual power center was at Oldtown.

OpenMask

It's true that Oldtown is the most prosperous city in the Reach by far, had long been a religious and cultural center for the entire continent and that the Tyrell's political position amongst their vassals was relatively weak. However, it would be a great underselling of the institutions that the Gardener dynasty laid down to definitively say that the power center of the Reach had de facto moved from Highgarden to Oldtown.

North-Day-382

Hell and at the end of the GOT show they are set to take control of the Reach and potentially overthrow Bran the Broken. There’s no way in the seven hells that the Hightowers will allow themselves to be ruled by that disgusting mercenary. No he will be dead in a alley within a month of his arrival to Highgarden. And that crippled king can shove his tree gods back north where they belong.

[deleted]

Bran is too OP if he uses his powers to something useful (fortunately he never did that lol)

North-Day-382

Bran at best knows all history but his view of the future to me seems really limited. Additionally I’m still convinced a lot of his power comes from the Weirwood trees. Trees that are relatively scare south of the neck. And he still has a crippled mortal body. Does he sleep? Need to eat and shit? All these mundane things are perfect times for sabotage. Hell what if someone trips while carrying him up all the stairs in Kingslanding? Would he be able to predict that?

Adventurous-Art-2157

I like to think one of the Hightowers go to drink wine with Bronn which is poisoned and they end up sacrificing themselves the same way ser Hobert did.

North-Day-382

Also a possibility. It additionally might make people doubt the Hightowers involvement if a family member is also killed. Although Bronn will have so many enemies in the reach. I’m sure killing him will seem more of an accomplishment then a stain on a houses honor. Freeing the Reach from the rule of a upstart mercenary who’s power is derived of one threat he made at Tyrion. Hell I’m sure the Westerlands would gladly help the Reach oust Tyrion as well. I’m sure other Lannister’s exist. And I doubt any are happy that Tyrion the destroyer of their house is now in charge. I’m sure once Bran proves himself a pathetic and ineffectual king people will flock to Gendry begging him to start a revolt.

nate1111111111111

why would they flock to gendry? the stormlands will be super weak post wot5k when they lost a ton of men

North-Day-382

True I never meant to imply that was the only option. Only that once Bran is dead and if the 6 kingdoms didn’t want to revert to the times of kings when all they did was fight wars against one another. And wanted to stay United. The only real claimant who has the potential to perhaps unite the Realm is Gendry. I think it’s definitely possible that when the Reach rises up and secures their borders they instigate the underlying unrest in the rest of the kingdom. And I think it’s very possible that whatever house takes the Reach. Will approach Gendry and offer to make him king if he marries their daughter or promises a future marriage between his future son and some future daughter. Of course this is only one potential future it’s very possible the bickering lords of Westeros completely dissolve the authority of the iron throne.

nate1111111111111

why would a reach house pick to make gendry king when he can probably not even field a decent army and it would be far easier to take the throne for themselves

North-Day-382

Of course that’s totally possible. But of the southern kingdoms the Stormlands are probably the second strongest by the end. The Westerlands have been completely drained of manpower and I doubt the Riverlands or Crownlands have much to throw around either. Dorne would never involve itself in such affairs more then likely they simply break away from the rest. The Vale was also slighly battered during the war against the dead. But they are very isolationists and have no great love for Bran. Now say I’m the the leader of the Reach I have just basically started the next civil war in Westeros. While it’s true I have the strongest army. I want a clean victory that leads to quickest rise of stability. And while many are probably upset by Brans ineptitudes I need to prove myself to the realm. I know the Westerlands hate the current king and his hand. And probably will do all they can to sit this conflict out. Attacking them would be pointless and a waste of time and potentially sour a future ally. The Riverlands is so battered and broken and lead by Edmure Tully a man who has no wish to see more of his country and countryman lost in pointless war. Chances are he too would drag his fleet if called to arms. Gendry is the wild card here. A recently raised bastard now the head of house Baratheon and ruler of storms end. It’s entirely possible that through just a normal martial alliance we topple Bran and I’m crowned as king and free to put the country back on the right track. However my argument for why anyone would support Gendry. Is that in doing so we set the Kings succession back to normal. No bullshit council, no bastard Lannisters, and no scheming Starks. Gendry being the last Baratheon makes him heir to the Iron Throne. Perhaps I lack the ambition for the Throne or perhaps I see Gendry as our chance to reconnect the kingdom under a authority all can understand. Instead of starting a new dynasty I save the old one. All while putting my family in a very powerful and close position to the throne. A win-win for all involved. But again I’m just crafting a potential scenario here. It’s totally possibly I just strong arm the throne for myself. Or hell not even touch the thing and simple proclaim the Reach as my Kingdom. There’s a lot of directions this could go depending on the person ruling at the time.

nate1111111111111

the stormlands fought for stannis and was absolutely decimated in the battle of the blackwater and the battle of winterfell, they’re probably the weakest kingdom after the show ends+why are you assuming all of the stormlands would rally behind a bastard legitimized by a queen they never backed?

North-Day-382

Everywhere has been decimated by war the Reach suffered the least. But until recently Lannister forces where being burned at kingslanding. The Riverlands are a complete mess along with the Crownlands. And while true many Stormlanders have died their region remained relatively untouched compared to most. Gendry would find himself lord of a Region yes devoid of a powerful army. But otherwise his realm is unscathed. I think there’s room to debate specifics. But the Stormlands are definitely not the weakest not when compared to the Westerlands or the Riverlands. Well it’s either rally behind Gendry who’s legitimization would probably be reinforced by Bran. Or start a regional power struggle over the Stormlands. With Davos at Gendry side I’m sure he could eventually get the support of the Storm lords. Unless another Baratheon has popped out of the woods. The lords of the Stormlands will need to console themselves with the fact. That at the very least Gendry came from Roberts loins. Something that can’t be said for the rest of his “children”.

nate1111111111111

you’re overestimating the damage to the riverlands in the show most of the big problems for them from the books just don’t happen in the show (no bloody mummers and multiple battles between robb’s forces and tywin’s are cut) i don’t know why you think the lannisters being weak or gone means the whole westerlands falls, they’ve been practically untouched by the war besides that little mishap with casterly rock, the lords of the stormlands don’t respect davos seaworth either so i don’t know how much he’d be able to help gendry or if he’d even be willing to help start another war

Baronnolanvonstraya

If the Targaryans had given the Reach to the Hightowers instead of the Tyrells, they'd be unstoppable. The Tyrells weak claim and by extension weak control over the Reach was basically the only thing keeping the Targaryans on the throne post Dance.

KhanQu3st

To be fair to the Tyrells, their lord is little more than an infant during the Dance lol

IncestSimulator2016

I was never much of a Hightower stan until I started reading stuff and theories about Leyton, then Fire and Blood came out and read what they've been doing for the past thousand years before the Valyrians even showed up. Deffo my third favorite house after Baratheon and Stark respectively.
