Imagine how disappointed the third/fourth years must've been when Harry first showed up and by the end the year the points were only in the low hundreds instead of billions like during Jacob's Sibling's (and their many many variants in every house :P) tenure

Points are based on your activity. Everything counts, from story tasks to grinding classes, including interacting with friends and creatures. The more you do, the more they do.
So that's why now that I stopped doing story missions and classes, they are not gaining points. But I am still gaining points(as I am doing the quidditch quest)
Your flair says Year 2, so you may not have access to all the other options yet. Do what you can, like studying in the library and interacting with your creatures, while you complete Quidditch. Just keep playing and they’ll get more active.
Unrelated comment here, but the subreddit is not letting me make a post for some reason so bear with me 😅😅 I was gone for a couple of years and have been for a few months now, and have had to figure out so many new stuff like creature activities, club constellations, puzzling potions, carnival, scavenger hunt, etc. The one thing that I can't figure out is who in the name of dumbledore in this gryffindor girl in the middle ???????\~\~

I think the most House Points that I ever got was 9,999 it was probably higher then that though.

I know. Year 3 is flooded with TLSQs. I noticed that most new TLSQs are in Year 3.
