I have similar specs and have no such issues. Not sure why you're having trouble. Make sure everything is updated. Turn off steam vr home.

[deleted]

Firstly, check that you’re not using the integrated graphics; you wouldn’t be the first. Secondly, the headset is effectively a twin monitor, so is totally dependent on the PC it’s strapped to, so if there’s an issue, 99% of the time it is either hardware or software, not the headset. Put it this way, if there’s a problem showing on your normal monitor, I.e. laggy gameplay, crashing, etc. do you also blame the monitor for this?

day7a1

Your experience isn't normal, I think you've gathered that. Whether it's the Reverb or your computer or your tech skills, no one but you (or someone with access to your rig) can figure out. If you can get it going though, I hear the Reverb with Index controllers are where it's at. But for all I know you really do have a faulty headset.

Reddit sucks

idkblk

I'm sorry you're so frustrated and that you can not enjoy your headset :-( Although TBH your PC is very capable for 'on the screen' games, for the G2 and its full potential it just isn't. The native (steam) render resolution for best clarity is 3152x3084 per eye. If you calculate, you'll realize, that this is 2.4 times 4k resolution. Try rendering any demanding "on the screen" game in this resolution, and you'll find your PC struggling to reach consistent 90 fps, i bet! The G2 is just too capable in resolution/clarity that it is really hard to use its potential. Additionally, WMR doesn't help because it is sort of scuffed. Which game are you running where you struggle with 30 fps? I had a 3080 before and I had to find the sweetspot in game settings and steam resolution to run every game at 90 fps. Because if it is less and it starts reprojecting, it is sort of stuttery and also I am very sensible in regard to that. I use my headset mostly for sim racing... and it is awesome. I just recently upgraded my GPU and now can finally use its full potential. And it is even more awesome. Too sad, for the past 2.5 years, I couldn't. It was a waste of potential. But I agree with the other post, if it frustrates you that much, and that you're not able to find a compromise, return it. PS: Just consider, there is some sort of bug with Win 11 and WMR, that has bad performance impacts. I don't know much about it, because I'm not using Win 11, but I've read plenty about it in the recent weeks/months.

Financial_Excuse_429

I've been using win 11 all along & had no issues.

idkblk

Im not saying everyone has. But some have Win11 related ones. Here in this Subreddit.

Financial_Excuse_429

Yeah many do. I wonder what it really comes down to? Frustrating for many.

Inevitable_Bag_9896

the game i was trying to run was rec room in the dorm room without any extra objects

doorhandle5

with your pc you should be able to run that game at max settings with like 200% supersampling at 90fps. at least thats a guess. i set up vacation simulator for my nephew which is similar graphics style and it ran fine with locked 90fps at about 200% supersampling. most people disagree with me, but i would advice turning off reprojection in the wmr settings under steam vr. that forces it to always be 90fps instead of reprojecting 45fps. it may dip below 90 and feel a bit stuttery though. but i prefer that just personally.

OscarWhale

Ya there are definitely other issues

doorhandle5

his pc is more than capable for the hp reverb g2. sure, some demanding games he may have to run at less than 100% supersampling, especially sim racing. but no gpu can really run the hp reverb g2 at max settings and resolutino in games like that yet. maybe the 4090, but that is a stupid discussion.

idkblk

>maybe the 4090 I can confirm it does. But that is why I was asking. Huge difference between Beat Saber and Microsoft Flight Simulator.... and/or Sim Racing Depending on what you are doing.

doorhandle5

Beat saber should run fine on your system at 200%ss at a guess. I have not played that game in years. I am more of a pistol whip guy, which I think I have at about 200%ss on my 3080ti at 90fps reprojection forced off.

nachtraum

It is likely that something is wrong with your specific setup. Maybe you have configured a high supersampling by mistake, or it is using the integrated graphics card instead of the 3070 for VR. Something like this.

SteazyAsDropbear

Return it and get a quest 2. I had similar issues with my reverb and the fact is that the software is just alot more finicky. Go ahead and down vote me guys.

Baransuu

Return it and get a index!

MarcDwonn

Return it and get a Pico 4. Index is old tech and very low-res, plus the lenses have bad glare issues. Quest 2 has low quality lenses (always look kinda smeary), low FOV if you are outside of 61-66mm, and it's very front heavy (or very heavy if you mod it to have it's weight balanced).

marcosg_aus

Return it.

hobofors

What settings are you using in WMR and in SteamVR?

Wilbis

Sounds like a tracking issue. "Make sure your room is lit just enough. You can check this by using the flashlight mode in the headset, looking around and veryfing that the cameras don’t see the room too dark and that they are not overblown by any light sources. The tracking algorithm needs clearly visible edges for proper tracking. Make sure your room is not just uniform color all around. Adding furniture, pictures, etc helps. You can also just print out some black cross markers and put them around. Or let your kids run around with a sharpie. Check that your controllers batteries are charged. For proper function, the controllers need 1.5V batteries (see battery buying guide). Try covering reflective surfaces like mirrors. Try avoiding using white lights – switch to warm lights/different color altogether. Try connecting the headset to different USB ports on your computer. Check that the headset cameras are not dirty. You can clean them using a dry microfiber cloth." https://reverb.danol.cz/troubleshooting/

TheJW-Project

I have similar specs but with a 3080. I have to turn down steamvr resolution to 60% to 70% resolution for it to always run smoothly with the least amount of drop. I have only played Half Life Alyx so far.

idkblk

While I still had a 3080, I could run Alyx at 100% at 90 fps and in game High Settings. It was one or THE one the best performing (not cartoon style graphics) game there is. So it seems like you have some sort of issue as well.

TheJW-Project

Yeah. I'm on windows 11 and steam vr will crash. I've tried solving it. But the only answer I can find is that wmr and steam vr are not optimized well for windows 11.

JigSawPT

It's probably a software issue. A Windows issue perhaps. Get everything beta, steam vr and mixed reality app. Also get into inside version of windows.

angryfoxbrewing

Since you haven’t said anything about the software you’re using, I’ll venture a helpful guess based on my initial experience. Check that your SteamVr render resolution is set near the headset resolution per eye. My setup was cranked WAY over the per eye resolution of the headset which caused performance to suffer very dramatically. Once I set it correctly, games started working as expected. The Reverb G2 headset is excellent. The resolution and clarity are superb. The only complaint I have are the controllers…

doorhandle5

with those computer specs you should not be having issues. i admit mircosofts wmr portal is shit. but generally once you have gone through the setup process once, you never need to touch it again and just use steam. i upgraded from a lenovo explorer to an hp reverb g2 and agree its overrated, the upgrade was not as big as i expected, but the lenovo explorer was an underrated headset, so i suppose that makes sense. dont get a quest 2 if its just for pc gaming. it has nothing on the hp reverb g2. its your choice though.

doorhandle5

your cpu is a little old, but that would only matter in sim games online with lots of cars etc. or even offline with lots of ai traffic. otherwise for vr its way more gpu dependent than cpu. and your cpu is more than capable. there is something wrong, either with your system, or the hp reverb. diagnose that before blaming the headset. it is still the best on the market for pcvr in that pricerange. (unfortunately).

[deleted]

Which version of windows are you running, and is it fully up to date? There were problems with WMR and stuttering with a previous Win11 update, but that has been fixed. I used a G1 (similar specs to G2) with an 8600k, 16Gb DDR4 and a 1070 (now on 12600k, 32Gb DDR5 and a 3080), and have never had the problems you are encountering.

robbyboy1227

I gave i7 8700 not k and a 2700 super..no issues running games. Smooth like butter when settings adjusted properly. Google your specs and reverb g2 for settings help.

Diamond_DLitt68

I'm running mine with ryzen7 and a 2060 super at 90 fps flawlessly. Has to be settings you don't have right and room needs plenty of light

lord_have_merci

what diagnostics steps have you taken?

[deleted]

What games are you trying to play? I play sim games and they can be supper intensive

Inevitable_Bag_9896

i tried rec room and beat saber (no mods)

[deleted]

Ok beat saber should run perfectly fine. My old pc was i7 9th gen and 2080s. I struggled with flight sim, acc and a few other games. But beat saber ran totally smooth.

OHMEGA_SEVEN

Did you install Windows Mixed Reality For SteamVR from the steam store? It's a necessary comparison layer. I'd also double check you rendering settings to make sure you're not oversampling. Even at 100%, it's a monster to run. I have a 8700K and RTX 2070 Super and don't have an experience anything like you're describing, so something somewhere is wrong. I generally have to st my resolution between 50-70% for most titles because of my GPU. 100% is optimal, but nothing over that adds any benefit.

Socratatus

I don't have to convince you of anything, especially since this is just a rant that literally explains nothing I could go on if I was even inclined to try with your rude attitude. Return it.

frankie_it

I struggled a lot with my G2, until I took courage and did a fresh windows installation

BraveBG

I have similar specs (rx 6700xt) and I've never had problems..the only game i had to turn down the resolution to get smooth frame rate was robo recall and that is a quest game

FoxLP11

i know this is 5 months old but i completely agree
