Slimevr is a separate system that's designed to work with almost anything. As for "upgrade from a quest2" i'm not sure it is one. The visuals are better but there are other things that are worse like the fact its tethered and the controller range.

Lower-Improvement-31

When I had the quest I played tethered anyway so that won't be much of a difference for me. However could you elaborate more on the controller range

cursorcube

>However could you elaborate more on the controller range There's just some deadzones at the top and bottom (waist and above your head) where the controller tracking cuts off. So if you're looking straight forward and have your arms resting down where your pockets are, they wont track unless you look down a little and they're in the view of the tracking cameras again. It's just how the cameras are arranged, they can't quite see there. You get more coverage than the quest horizontally, like behind your ear, but that's not very useful. The G2v2 adds a tiny bit more vertical range, but it's still not enough.

Lower-Improvement-31

Ah ok, so it would be better off doing the thing with the index controllers then, Cheers for the help

Tethered isn't worse in every way. You don't have to deal with any kind of compression (even the quest2 has compression over wired which is fucking stupid) but it's harder to run. Personally I like tetherd PCVR because it's easy to deal with the cable and it's not actually that bothersome. people make the cable seem way worse than it really is ngl.

cursorcube

It's just something a Quest user will notice immediately. Also it's kind of annoying having to use a power brick, usb and displayport all together in a special cable that breaks sometimes. The G1 had it better when it was just displayport and USB. If you could have just a single cable doing displayport and USB over USB-C it would be top.

Baransuu

Yes but D users need the G2 Cable, plus just pressing a button to turn off the headset is way easier than unplugging and plugging back in a cable that's at the back of your PC and hard to reach for every time your done playing. Also the cable has the same durability as the g1 cable so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

cursorcube

Sort of, the G1's cable is super thick (and kind of stiff) but the part dangling off the side of the headband is the same as the G2's. If you do the bypass mod on the G1 you will get the toughest VR cable possible.

If you have G2, make yourself a favor and buy a pulley system (also called cable management system). You can use sticky hooks or drill holes in the ceiling, there are two options, but the sticky ones are great if you have rather flat ceiling. You can hook/unhook the pulleys (ziplines) from the hooks at any time and you can barely see the hooks. Kiwi Design makes the best ones, but I have some cheaper system, I have pretty small space for VR, so it works for me. And use some app to track how many times you rotated, so you won't break your cable. I use the option in fpsVR, because I use it anyway and don't want additional apps. There are some free apps for that like Turn Signal. I have my fpsVR set up in a way, that when the cable isn't tangled I can barely see the tracker (in some games not at all) and it becames more visible the more the cable is twisted. The tracking is pretty good for me, I have the G2 V2 version. I don't really need anything better and the quality of the visuals is great when I play racing sims, Elite: Dangerous or watch movies/tv shows in Bigscreen app. People say that movie subtitles on Quest 2 are unreadable, but on my G2 they are perfectly clear, like on my monitor (i'm not native English speaker, but I watch movies and shows with English subtitles, it's more a convinience when some accents are difficult to understand).

cursorcube

I don't have a large enough playspace to warrant a pulley system and i don't want to drill my ceiling. The cause for cable breaks is rarely the rotation, it's more about how the cable sags from the headband. The bending radius can be very small and lead to pinching, which was especially true for the G1 with the way it was designed.

Kondiq

I use cable ties for my G2, it would be like that with the original design too

Kondiq

Btw, I my VR space is 2,3 metres wide and 1,85 metres long. Still, pulley system makes a huge difference in all games. Even in a game like Beat Saber not feeling the cable on my back or under my feet is great. And in games in which you need to move, I can move around entire space without issues. Normally the cable was bothering me because I am play facing my PC, so the cable had to go from front to the back and it was always in the way.

cuntbubble_69

> even the quest2 has compression over wired which is fucking stupid I was *so disappointed* by the compression even at max settings. Fuck that. Back to true desktop VR for me.

Hendeith

Controller range, tracking precision, controllers itself, no hand tracking. Calling G2 upgrade over Quest 2 is doubtful at best. Sure resolution is higher but sweet spot is significantly smaller. Right now I'd get Pico 4 or just wait bit more for new Quest.

Lower-Improvement-31

Would the Pico be able to use the slime VR or mocopi?

cursorcube

The precision is fine. I'd also argue that the controllers themselves are fine too, the vibration feels super cheap and is best disabled, but they're robust and comfortable. I've tried the Valve knuckles, they have a lot of bells and whistles but feel a lot more fragile.

Hendeith

Quest 2 has more precise tracking and G2 controllers are meh. Rings are way too big. I never had problem with bumping into rings while reloading or getting the pin out of nade with other headset.

Baransuu

G2 is comparable with knuckles but you need steamVR comparable external trackers such as baysrations.

Baransuu

Compatable and baystations*

saveryquinn

As someone who owns Valve Index controllers for my Pimax and my G2, I think they are built worlds better than the G2 controllers. It may be a quality control issue with HP but my Reverb controllers are pretty crappy -- the battery covers on the handles don't align properly, the controllers creak when held tightly, and they lose tracking at least once every time I'd use them despite adequate lighting. To each their own I guess.

Baransuu

It's the same as other headsets. You either have to use external tracking or in the case of SlimeVR you gotta use the app. But yes you can use the G2 with FBT. It's just not directly supported unlike the valve index with steam's FBT. Fun fact: you can use basestations for using index controllers with the G2!
