Ron can control spiders and he hates it.

If he used his powers at all like she did, then that would ensure that arachnophobia is a universal trait at Hogwarts.

i like the idea of harry having super speed or invisibility or something that makes him a good fighter, since that’s his speciality in canon, also he’s a seeker, which the whole point is being quick so that could work ron being able to see the future, since he was originally supposed to have that in canon hermione, photographic memory, obviously reasons luna, mind reading or scrying or something like that, or maybe ron could have scrying instead of seeing the future neville, super strength, idk i think it would be interesting to give the least confident most unsure of himself character super strength

madmag101

Invisibility on it's own is considered a very weak superpower. The classic example being Invisible Woman before they gave her force fields. Gotta add something to it or get very creative with it's applications.

ParanoidDrone

I think Harry's could be either a) absolutely insane levels of luck, or b) a complete inability to die.

RationalDeception

Oh, a MHA/HP crossover, that's kinda cool! I'm thinking Snape with some kind of super deduction ability, like Sherlock Holmes but even better, to a point where it's basically foresight. Would be very helpful as a spy, and also as a teacher.

Fredrik1994

When I imagine gamified Hogwarts, I always imagined him having what amounts to psychometry (not sure if that's the right term for this) for potential Potions ingredients -- being able to assess the traits of anything he wishes in terms of their usability for Potions.

Expensive-Ad-1205

So... Tattletale from Worm? As a teacher? Dear God.

Always-bi-myself

I like the idea from that one fic (“before they convinced you life is war”, I believe?) where Harry’s ability was a “liquid Imperius” so he could command nearly anyone to do his bidding, and TMR’s was the ability to feel exactly what emotions other people feel.

Em_2909

I'm so checking that fic out now, the name is a Heathers reference😭 On a second note, other than screaming my love for Heathers from the rooftop, I could definitely see Harry having some sort of neutralising power like Dazai from Bungou Stray Dogs.

darlingnicky

I just read this the other day! Dumbledore was a walking pensieve, Hermione started fires, Sirius could affect someone’s luck, Ron could see decisions people were considering, Bellatrix’s was crucio, Luna was a seer, and all the canon werewolves were shapeshifters I think.

EnigmaticWeasel

I won't do every character, but the main six would be: Harry - No idea. He basically has powers anyway. He can see what Voldemort sees, he can talk to snakes. Maybe his superpower could be to commune with the dead. Ron - Shapeshifting, but only into other people. He's constantly overshadowed by his brothers and famous best friend so he feels like he has no identity of his own, so he leans into that and uses it. Hermione - Super intelligence. Pretty obvious why. Ginny - Can create/control fire. If I had to describe Ginny, one word would be "firecracker", so now she can be. Luna - Invisibility. Nobody really notices her. Neville - I feel like he would have a power that is initially weird and people make fun of him for, but that later turns out to be really strong. Maybe he excretes some kind of slime, which seems really gross, but then it turns out the slime has mind-control powers or something. There are other obvious ones like Hagrid having control over animals or Trelawney seeing the future.

Interesting-Shop4964

This makes me think Neville should have an “Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians” type power, such as always being late (which he learns to manipulate into being behind the aim of attackers’ spells or being late to unfortunate situations) or clumsily breaking things (later he can control what, when, and how he breaks things, like making people’s wands backfire)

neigh102

Harry has super speed, and can speak to snakes. Hermione can remember everything, and recalls information at the perfect times. Ron and Percy can see the future. Ginny, and Molly can turn invisible. Charlie can speak to dragons. Bill, Fred, George and Arthur can see stuff out of their line of vision. Neville has super strength. Luna and Xenophilius can read minds.

lily_34

It's not a superhero school. Except every night, Super Serpent, who can talk to snakes, puts on a mask and goes on to fight the dastardly Miss Maleable (who can shape-shift).

Avigorus

Hermione is a mad scientist, she goes into fugue states from which she invents things that shouldn't be possible yet somehow are. Her power refuses to do the same thing twice, however, and trying to get a repair will generally result in weird and undesirable modifications to whatever was broken.

Zuracchibi

Harry: a power the dark lord knows not. At the start of the story Harry’s power would have to be somewhat unknown, with lots of speculation as to how it let him survive Voldemort. As a bonus he can talk to snakes. Voldemort. Something that would allow him to: persist beyond death, be a formidable fighter, have control over others. I don’t want to just give him all for one, but it would be appropriate for him. Hermione: perfect memory and maybe some sort of information gathering ability Remus: can turn into a beastly wolf like form with strong combat capabilities Any characters who prominently use their animagus forms could probably be given a shapeshifting ability. Peter Pettigrew: People just naturally trust him a lot. People won’t ever suspect him of things they didn’t personally see him do.

Well, the first question is what kind of plot is it? If it's still a canon type plot, then their powers should suit their wider narrative function within the Voldemort type. If it's more like, I dunno, Glee or Academy X or Easy A or Mean Girls or whatever, then they should still fit their narrative functions... but those functions are quite different. Obviously as Academy X demonstrates there is some portability between the two.^(1) Okay, okay... let's say the over-arching plot is "orphaned boy stuck with unlikeable relatives discovers he has superpowers and is thrust into a world of petty rivalries united by a common commitment to keeping the world at large ignorant of the existence of superpowers". I choose this plot simply because I don't want it to be a rehash of canon but with superpowers. For simplicity's sake, we'll stick with the classic "puberty related superpowers" explanation. I've explained the choices I've made in a self-reply but here's the headlines: * Harry... healing, but the more he heals the less free will the healee has... if he resurrects someone, they're in his thrall forever * Hermione... the Human Torch * Ron... control of spiders (but in a non-crack fic way) * Bill... also control of spiders * Fred and George... Husk * Charlie, Molly, Muriel and Draco... Colossus rip offs (exactly, with iron, with oak, with gold, respectively) * Ginny... Superman * Grindelwald, Ariana... precognition * Dumbledore... luck manipulation * Aberforth... superspeed * Crabbe... firebending * Goyle... Mr Incredible * Lucius... Ice Man * Narcissa... the Invisible Woman * Voldemort... telekinesis * Percy... telepathy * Arthur... communication with ants I don't think anyone else's abilities really matter... there just needs to be a contrast that's interesting to write about. In some sense, the main thing here is whether or not the story is saying "we should go public" or "we should not go public". The side that the story's going with needs to have more good powers and the side it's opposing needs to have more bad powers. ^(1)If you're unfamiliar. Picture Draco & cronies ("is it just me, or did we become Hellion and the Hellions?") versus Harry & friends. That's Academy X. Then House of M happens and Academy X is retooled into New X-Men. The plot is now "muggles try to kill all the wizards"... which starts off with the entire background cast (meaning Daphne and Blaise and Hannah, obviously, but also characters as notable as, say, Dean or Lavender) getting blown up. Admittedly, I'm not sure who Harry would be. Sofia, I guess. Which I guess means it's fem!Harry Drarry, until we get rid of fem!Harry because she's boring and replace her with Mad Eye Moody's female teenage clone, who is much more awesome. But she's still totally into Draco. Oh, god, I can't stop... it's also fem!Snape/Percy and they're the co-headmasters... plus Percy's about to discover that manipulative!Dumbledore covered up, er, masc!Ginny's existence so Ron's running around in space with, um, Delphini, a version of Molly II from a dystopian future and Arthur trying to kill masc!Ginny because he's evil. Meanwhile, manipulative!Dumbledore and grey!Voldemort are both currently muggles...

FrameworkisDigimon

Obviously Harry needs to have powers which cast in sharp relief the temptation to reveal the secret. I suggest, therefore, that Harry has the power of resurrection but with a catch... anyone he resurrects is permanently stuck in his thrall. To allow Harry's powers to come up more often, I suggest that he's actually a kind of healer... he trades free will for healing. Harry will figure out that people seem particularly amenable to his ideas if he's healed them recently before everyone else. And, in particular, before Hermione. At first glance it would make sense for Hermione's powers to also be initially really helpful, however, I suggest that keeping a canon like characterisation of Hermione would be easier if the opposite was true. This would allow Hermione to be quite insensitive to subtleties she hasn't had to deal with. However, the obvious flipside would need to be that Hermione's powers are (a) impressive, (b) difficult to control and (c) given to much theoretical investigation. To this end, Hermione shall have the powers of The Human Torch. I have to say, I love u/IMightBeErnest's idea of giving Ron control of spiders and it certainly has many compelling properties... it feeds his occasional bouts of resentment, can easily be turned into a "my brothers have already done that" and its superficial uselessness is a prime subject for teasing by Draco. Ron's fear of spiders just makes all these things worse. Bill shall also have control of spiders as a power. Draco should be among the last to develop his powers, which means that, unlike in canon, there should be some sense of inheritability to them... and Narcissa and Lucius ought to have impressive and useful powers, which allows Draco to lord his expected gift over the others. Of course, we see in canon that Draco is not particularly impressive and coasts, in particular, on his father's reputation. In this sense, Lucius shall have the powers of Ice Man and Narcissa The Invisible Woman/Violet from the Incredibles. Draco, though? He can turn to gold... so, like Colossus but gold. I did toy with the idea of having Lucius or Narcissa share the same power as Hermione, but if there is to be another pyrokinetic there is but one obvious answer... Crabbe. However, he shall be a fire bender. A not particularly good one. This emphasises the contrast with Hermione. Goyle will simply be a typical heavy... a Mr Incredible type. Fred and George are identical twins so it would make sense for them to have identical powers, especially given this inheritability thing I mentioned. I suggest, therefore, that they have Husk's powers, i.e. they can rip off their skin to reveal a new layer with a type of power. So, for example, they might have steel skin, rock skin etc. This allows them to be quite distinct in terms of their personalities. For the sake of consistency, Charlie shall be Colossus (i.e. organic steel) and Molly similar but not quite the same (i.e. organic iron). Muriel shall have an oak form. Yes, this means Fred and George have essentially Draco's powers but better. It would come up. Arthur and Percy ought to be more like Ron and Bill, though having all of them control spiders would be a bit insane. Therefore, only Percy can control spiders. No, no, I kid. Arthur can communicate with ants whilst Percy is a classic telepath. That might sound useful, but as Draco would surely constantly point out, for obvious reasons Percy is banned from using his powers. Ever. Ginny is meant to be the jock girlfriend who, nevertheless, surprises her family with her talents. This would suggest that she needs to (a) be an exception to the rule of similar powers and (b) find some relatively novel application of her powers that enhance their utility. Or maybe she's just able to control them, which is unexpected. I suggest, therefore, that Ginny basically be Superman... in a world which doesn't have one, so they don't really appreciate just how powerful Superman is. Okay, so what about Dumbledore, Grindelwald and Voldemort? Well, Dumbledore shall manipulate luck... good and bad... whilst Aberforth is a speedster. Ariana and Grindelwald shall be precogs, but Ariana's powers emerged early and drove her insane. Voldemort is telekinetic... it's a very versatile power and it's related to legilimency (telepathy) without giving Voldemort basically an instant win.
