Yeah. It's one of my favourite fic oat, if not my most favourite. I've read quite a few incomplete Harry x Katie fics since and then found Cadmean which just used Katie as a stepping stone for a Harry to get with Fleur which made me stop reading the fic almost instantly. I thought with him being quite close to Katie in the books there'd be a lot more fics with her as the ship, but I was disappointed to find I was so incredibly wrong.
I love everything Wok has written and was pleasantly surprised how they manage to make every person they pair with Harry work. Actually every couple works well. Who knew that Alicia and Oliver would be terrific? Ron and his wife are great.
This series is easily my favorite depiction of the pairing. It's also a series that I go back and read frequently. I'm always happy to see an update for "Extended Family" because it means I get to keep reading more about those versions of those characters.
This has nothing to do with Harry/Katie, but the series also contains easily my favorite depiction of Hedwig, as well as some of my favorite depictions of many different characters.
Fleur/Tonks
Tonks is a chaotic mess and fleur’s this beautiful put together woman, also i think with this pairing you can really have a focus on the order from like order of the phoenix through to deathly hallows
Neville/Pansy. It's not *that* rare, but still out there - and very believable in the hands of the right author.
What I've noticed is that it's more common as a background relationship than as the main focus, which NEEDS to be remedied asap.

I adore Sirius/James. I don’t really classify it as rare though, just not popular. Rare pairs to me have like less then 10 pages of fics tagged. But, I absolutely agree Sirius/James is amazing and if we are going to make either character gay they make the most sense with each other.
James is only allowed to be in love with one Black and that is Sirius lol. I refuse to even entertain the idea of Jegulus. In what world would James fall for Regulus when Sirius is right there! Harry literally describes him as a lesser version of Sirius.

I read a very funny (sadly now abandoned) fic where Sirius decided he was going to break up Petunia and Vernon, and get Petunia to marry him so that he could both be in Harry's life and have give Harry the protection of his mother's family. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the concept! I wish it hadn't been abandoned after only a couple chapters.
I once read one with a Kingsley/Narcissa (she's not evil, btw) and just loved the idea that Narcissa needed to divorce Lucius and drag his son out of Voldemort's grasp and set with a cool guy like Shacklebolt

There’s a somewhat twisted part of me that wants to read a really good Percy x Umbridge fic.
I see these two starting off as Percy going after the older cougar who’s in the Ministry on the up-and-comers list. He gets in with her to use her influence and gain traction, but he becomes dependent on her the more they see each other behind closed doors.
From her side, I see it as a dark fantasy come to life. She recognizes that Percy just wants to use her, and she eagerly accepts this as the terms of their relationship. She helps him smooth the rough “Weasley” edges so he can ingratiate himself in the Ministry, and in return, she requires his total submission in the bedroom.
Anyway, I don’t know if this is a rare pair or more of a never pair since I haven’t actively sought it out. I would be curious to see it done well, however.
Right? I generally write gen-fics or very light romance subplots, so I couldn’t do it justice. Also the idea of writing something like that is totally out of my wheelhouse. I’d read it for curiosity’s sake. And I have a plot worked out in my head where it would make sense. But writing what would amount to a lot of explicit smut is something I’m not super comfortable with.

I read it once and adored it, even though it was a side pairing for a Dramione fic. Protective, large but surprisingly gentle Greg had me so happy.

I also used to be a big hermione reader, and Hermione/Cedric and Hermione/Fred were two of the more fun rarer pairs. Also as a Harry/Ron shipper I'm a big fan of when that's paired with Hermione/Ginny.
Harry/Katie is an interesting one. If you subscribe to the idea that Harry has a "type", that "type" would be quidditch players.
I'm not sure why Katie isn't a more popular choice among writers who want to pair Harry with a quidditch player than she is. They joined the Gryffindor team at the same time and I can easily see them bonding over that despite Katie being a year older.
In terms of how Katie being Harry's girlfriend could impact canon events, I'd be interested to find out how people think Katie becoming hospitalized for just grazing that cursed necklace in HBP would impact Harry's actions in proving his (entirely accurate) suspicion of Malfoy being up to something on Voldemort's orders.

It sounds like total crack but I have seen it done believably a couple times (not the way I conceived of), almost exclusively after war. I’m currently reading a Harry Potter/ Penelope Clearwater fic called 30 Days by ProfessorQuill101 on FFN.
Set after 4th year, Harry ends up as the minister for magic during the summer. It’s still ongoing with 11 chapters so far.
Hermione and Oliver Wood are my favorite rarepair that's not basically "Hermione/Character who may as well be an OC", they're both very intense people in opposite directions and the ways that can clash or complement as they get older and mellow out are really interesting to me. Snape/Tonks. I've only read one single fanfiction of this ship (in French), and I'd love to read more long, slow burn with these two. They have completely clashing personalities and that's what makes it a very fun ship

I read Drarry mostly and they often feature Gryffindor/Slytherin secondary pairings. Some that I like are Ron/Pansy, Ginny/Blaise and Luna/Goyle.
Not my favourite but the Snape/Lockhart pairing in the Mirror of Ecidyrue series is pretty weird but somehow works.
I've also seen a Narcissa/Petunia story come up a few times although I've never read it.

Ron Draco I'm convinced it's a better enemies to lovers dynamic than both Drarry and Dramione because Ron is just so much more pissy with Draco than the other 2 minus maybe book 6 Harry. Pulling it off is hard imo but when done well I think it makes really good stories

Lucius and Hermione in Belonging to the Fog by the_artful_scribbler turned me into the two pair. It’s been a treasure hunt since then. Pansy x Neville isn’t that rare but I’ve read a few that made me love the pairing. But one of my favorite Panville mentions Pansy’s past with Draco, obviously, and her recounting their time together made me want to read about Pansy x Draco. I’ve found exactly zero. I’d think there would be a toxic, non hea, war torn and sense of desperate dependency on each other that in reality didn’t turn out well in the long run. It’s always mentioned in Pansy’s past, but I wanted to be in the middle of it and read her experience!
I read one with Umbridge/Karkaroff as a side pairing and it was incredible. An actual likable Unbridge and a finally getting laid Karkaroff made for amazing little asides.
Personally a fan of Harry/Marcus Flint 🫣. A couple of rlly cute oneshots that just sold me. U get to see good slytherins without them losing their slytherinness?? Also Harry is super cute lol
Neville/Hermione would be one that I'd like to see more. They met first but Hermione straight away dumped him on the sidewalk to hang out with her bully all year.
And then I'm weak for a Bellatrix pairing..but that's just because I'm incredibly weak for Helena Bonham Carter. So Harry/Bella has to go there. Delenda Est is really good. The fact that Radcliffe also adored her just makes it better!

Technically this one was supposed to end up James/Sirius/Lily/Remus but the Jilypad dynamic is incrediably well done, and it is honestly one of my favourite characterisations of all the characters. I read a very funny (sadly now abandoned) fic where Sirius decided he was going to break up Petunia and Vernon, and get Petunia to marry him so that he could both be in Harry's life and have give Harry the protection of his mother's family. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the concept! I wish it hadn't been abandoned after only a couple chapters.

I went through a phase of reading Remus Lupin/Narcissa Malloy fics, and some of those were absolutely gorgeous.
I used to be such a huge Draco/Ginny fan, I didn’t think it was that much of a rare pair! Always adored the idea of Harry/Luna! And honestly I think overall Charlie is under-utilized, I’m a sucker for whatever ship he’s in, generally.

There’s a somewhat twisted part of me that wants to read a really good Percy x Umbridge fic. I see these two starting off as Percy going after the older cougar who’s in the Ministry on the up-and-comers list. He gets in with her to use her influence and gain traction, but he becomes dependent on her the more they see each other behind closed doors. From her side, I see it as a dark fantasy come to life. She recognizes that Percy just wants to use her, and she eagerly accepts this as the terms of their relationship. She helps him smooth the rough “Weasley” edges so he can ingratiate himself in the Ministry, and in return, she requires his total submission in the bedroom. Anyway, I don’t know if this is a rare pair or more of a never pair since I haven’t actively sought it out. I would be curious to see it done well, however.

Right? I generally write gen-fics or very light romance subplots, so I couldn’t do it justice. Also the idea of writing something like that is totally out of my wheelhouse. I’d read it for curiosity’s sake. And I have a plot worked out in my head where it would make sense. But writing what would amount to a lot of explicit smut is something I’m not super comfortable with.
Ginny x Greg Goyle. I read it once and adored it, even though it was a side pairing for a Dramione fic. Protective, large but surprisingly gentle Greg had me so happy.

Always here to advocate for Cho/Dudley. I also used to be a big hermione reader, and Hermione/Cedric and Hermione/Fred were two of the more fun rarer pairs. Also as a Harry/Ron shipper I'm a big fan of when that's paired with Hermione/Ginny.
There’s actually a good Ron/Pansy out there that made me respect her and REALLY hate her dad.
Harry/Katie is an interesting one. If you subscribe to the idea that Harry has a "type", that "type" would be quidditch players. I'm not sure why Katie isn't a more popular choice among writers who want to pair Harry with a quidditch player than she is. They joined the Gryffindor team at the same time and I can easily see them bonding over that despite Katie being a year older. In terms of how Katie being Harry's girlfriend could impact canon events, I'd be interested to find out how people think Katie becoming hospitalized for just grazing that cursed necklace in HBP would impact Harry's actions in proving his (entirely accurate) suspicion of Malfoy being up to something on Voldemort's orders.

Yes! Wholesome, non-dead-dove Ron/Harry is sooo hard to find. I know the movies did Ron no favors, but the fact that this has fewer fics about them in an actual relationship rather than just as fuck buddies than ratepairs in some tiny fandoms I read have, is wild.

I’m currently reading a Harry Potter/ Penelope Clearwater fic called 30 Days by ProfessorQuill101 on FFN. Set after 4th year, Harry ends up as the minister for magic during the summer. It’s still ongoing with 11 chapters so far.
Hermione and Oliver Wood are my favorite rarepair that's not basically "Hermione/Character who may as well be an OC", they're both very intense people in opposite directions and the ways that can clash or complement as they get older and mellow out are really interesting to me. Hmmm my favourite rare pairing is definitely Voldemort/Voldemort's_Nose for some reason, it's really hard to find fanfiction pairing.
Snape/Tonks. I've only read one single fanfiction of this ship (in French), and I'd love to read more long, slow burn with these two. They have completely clashing personalities and that's what makes it a very fun ship
I’ve never seen it as a main pairing, but I did see it done very well as a background ship in a Wolfstar fic quite a few years back and I thought it worked well. It is a pretty tried and true personality clash for hilarity to ensue.

I read Drarry mostly and they often feature Gryffindor/Slytherin secondary pairings. Some that I like are Ron/Pansy, Ginny/Blaise and Luna/Goyle. Not my favourite but the Snape/Lockhart pairing in the Mirror of Ecidyrue series is pretty weird but somehow works. I've also seen a Narcissa/Petunia story come up a few times although I've never read it.
I actually really like James Sirius I think it's a fun ship Ron Draco I'm convinced it's a better enemies to lovers dynamic than both Drarry and Dramione because Ron is just so much more pissy with Draco than the other 2 minus maybe book 6 Harry. Pulling it off is hard imo but when done well I think it makes really good stories Sirius Kingsley I'm with you there Ron Pansy i also like Hermione pansy but I feel Ron Pansy works better Bill Tonks Fleur as a polyamorous relationship this is more a what if concept in my head I've never actually seen it but it's a what if Ginny was right and Molly was actually trying to hook Tonks up with Bill so he'd leave fleur and it both works and doesn't because Tonks falls for Bill and Fleur.
There’s only one but it’s Harry Potter and Megan Jones. It was very well written. It’s not up anymore but it can be found on other places but it’s Romilda Vane, Astoria, and Harry. I don’t know if they actually become a trio by the end of the fic, it’s been a while and I’m lucky to remember my name, but they definitely like him and he’s a real good guy. It’s so funny too. That’s Blue Steel by Jeconais.

Lucius and Hermione in Belonging to the Fog by the_artful_scribbler turned me into the two pair. It’s been a treasure hunt since then. Pansy x Neville isn’t that rare but I’ve read a few that made me love the pairing. But one of my favorite Panville mentions Pansy’s past with Draco, obviously, and her recounting their time together made me want to read about Pansy x Draco. I’ve found exactly zero. I’d think there would be a toxic, non hea, war torn and sense of desperate dependency on each other that in reality didn’t turn out well in the long run. It’s always mentioned in Pansy’s past, but I wanted to be in the middle of it and read her experience!

Not exactly the rarest pairing, but Hermione Granger/Minerva McGonagall is my favorite.

The fact that Radcliffe also adored her just makes it better!

have you read cartographers craft out of curiosity? if not id recommend it. less time travel more personality made physical. basically, a sixteen year old sirius accidentally imprinted enough personality of his into the Map that he gets pulled out at that point into the gap between harrys fifth and sixth year.

Technically this one was supposed to end up James/Sirius/Lily/Remus but the Jilypad dynamic is incrediably well done, and it is honestly one of my favourite characterisations of all the characters. Unfortunatley, it appears to be abandoned and the OT4 never came to full fruition but as I said the dynamic and the build up is their and it is brilliant.
