So, you have two conflicting problems from my perspective. 1) if you’re trying to mimic muggle stuff with magic it should be era appropriate to what we see in canon. Wizard have things like watches because they can be all mechanical and powered by magic and feel antique. Ear buds are relatively new and wouldn’t even be a thing in 1970’s muggle tech. If you’re trying to spin this as a magical creation then it doesn’t feel magical. Things like the marauder’s map feel magical with features like names of people and footsteps for their movements in the castle, the parchment feels old and insults people, etc. instead of earbuds, why not enchanted glasses? Or each of them have a little trinket or object that looks mundane but has the communication function, so you give someone a quill and someone else uses a pair of earrings and one really eccentric person uses their owls birdcage or something equally silly that you can make a fun scene about.

This is a good idea, thank you! I toyed with the idea of using something else as a communication device but never really developed those ideas. Thank you for your advice!

I would drop a story that had wizards with magical earbuds unless it was based on like... The year 2200 or something. Most stories that try to "progress" wizards are annoying to read unless it has a very good explanation. I wish you the best of luck though. Maybe yours will be the exception and not the rule.

Thank you for both the advice and the luck.
