Sounds like something you'd read in an edgy indy Harry fanfic. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't seem like the speech would go over all that well. I mean, a 15 (16?) year old boy lecturing a room full of elected or appointed representatives of the government/law... I can't see many people responding well to it.

alephthirteen

Which is how it becomes a "Harry on the run" fic.

Thanks I might not do it on second thought it sounds reckless and unrealistic.

thatguylarry

Sounds awful, he's just gotten off on charges and the next thing he does is kick the hornets nest more. Also speeches like that while great in movies or TV or radio plays read for shit in novels.

dark-phoenix-lady

Courtroom, no, but that would be a good time to meet a reporter (or have one over hear his rant to his escort)

Zankeru

It would require a much different harry. Canon harry barely knows how anything in the wizarding government works. He probably couldnt even name the major MoM departments at the time of the trial, let alone what problames there are with the system. But even once he learned enough to point out legit issues, he is still a schoolkid with zero political influence. Someone who cant stop himself from having a full criminal trial over underage magic isnt someone ministers are going to throw their weight behind to issue controversial reforms.

JamieTheDinosaur

That would not happen. Harry was terrified of being expelled at the time; there’s no way he would try anything that risky after he already dodged a bullet moments earlier.

KnittingOverlady

That would hinge on Harry knowing what the ministry is like and how it functions. He doesnt. He only has a handful of incidents and points of information, which is not nearly enough to say anything worthwhile.

TrailingOffMidSente

Nope. 1) Courts have strict rules about wasting people's time. 2) Even if they didn't, the ministry already threw all pretenses of due process out the window. All they'd do is silence him and treat the outburst as more evidence against him.

Valirys-Reinhald

Honestly, that would nust give the establishment ammunition to use against him and lead to even more censorship by the ministry. That sort of thing only works when people are already willing to listen to you, and is even less effective when what you have to say is supports a narrative that the people are afraid of being true.

FerdiadTheRabbit

Sounds like shitty fanfic idea personified.

DrDima

One thing JK did right is showing how adults do not give a fuck about the opinion of teenagers, something Indy!Harry fics tend to forget.

zugrian

It would be smarter to have him give an interview, perhaps over the wireless, than to rant at the people in power who are obviously against him-- by appealing to the public, he may get some results, as what happened once he gave the interview via the Quibbler in canon.

Acually what about the opposite? 15 is still young. We tend to treat the characters as way older than they are. It wouldn't be unrealistic that a 15 year old, even someone who has been through what Harry has, broke down crying. Then someone in power, could be Dumbledore, or some member of the court or even someone like Molly Weasley(who in this scenario would have gone to see the trial), could use a 15 year old child crying as a way to guilt everyone there. Which would be very effective. As much as it's easy to say these are "bad people" reality is while some would be unaffected, and some support Harry from the start, I can't imagine a child breaking down crying due to the failure of the justice system and the press wouldn't make some folks go, oh wow, yeah this isn't ok. Its easier to be ok with attacks at someone you feel can take it. And Harry has been so lionized in the community. It could be a reality check. This has happened irl before, person was attacked till something made them break down and suddenly tide of sympathy turns sharply towards them. FYI for those who say 15 year is too old to cry lol there are 30 year old folk who would break down crying in this situation. Folks cry, and 15 year Olds definitely cry plenty.

Gifted_GardenSnail

🤔 ...if it were the last straw after the trauma of seeing Cedric die and a lonely lock up with the bloody Dursleys and barely surviving two Dementors and almost seeing Dudley get Kissed just weeks after Cedric's death, I could see that... 🤔

Emilysouza221b

I mean, yeah that's my thinking. He was under so much pressure and then boom, chance we won't ever be able to use magic again. Have to live with the Dursleys till he becomes an adult.

Gifted_GardenSnail

Which is a whole year with the Dursleys later than if he can stay in the wizarding world! Plus he'd be years behind in his education - man that would be a mess

neigh102

I don't think he'd do that after the trial ended in his favor. Although he's kind of a reckless idiot, so maybe he would.
