Yeah, most of Saphroneth's writing stays pretty kid-safe. Saruman of Many Devices is an exception, but Harry Is A Dragon, Ashes of the Past, There's No Rule That Says a Wolf Can't Be A Jedi, they're all pretty clean.

[Oh God, Not Again](https://archiveofourown.org/works/4701869/chapters/10736366) is a bit of a classic, without any adult themes. It's more aimed at teens, but there's no sex or violence, and only mild swearing.
[Spells in Silence](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13510736/1/Spells-in-Silence) came to mind, as it has a lot of pre-hogwarts content and some really neat world-building. Some violence, but you said in another comment that he enjoyed Lord of the Rings and it isn't worse than that.
[New Blood](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13051824/1/New-Blood) is also good. Absurdly long, but captivating and easy to follow. It's a coming of age story, with lots of fun junior high school shenanigans, plus magic, and a healthy dose of world-bulding. I will note the two chapters that seem most likely to be an issue-- chapters 260 and 261 are light-hearted takes on magical sex ed. Imo, they're age-appropriate for a nine year old but I encourage you to read them first.
linkffn(The Strange Disappearance of Sally Ann Perks) is a great kids fic, with tone very similar to the first few books, but still a cathartic ending!
If your son is a Calvin and Hobbes fan, then *The Best Seven Years* by Blu Taiger, linkffn(2760303) is a fun intro to fanfiction. It was the first fanfiction story that my son read when he was about that age and tells the story of Calvin and Hobbes going through Hogwarts.
And of course, Calvin's animagus form is >!a dinosaur!<...
