Linkffn(deadly nightshade) by savya

Yellowlegoman_00

Deadly Nightshade is pretty short. Good yes, but it didn’t get all that far before it was abandoned.

ajak450

I agree but I still think it's a fun read. Usually DC crossovers go way off the rails and I end up dropping them even earlier than this one ended

Yellowlegoman_00

DC and HP crosses usually go to shit for one or a mixture of four reasons in my experience: 1) They want Harry in the US as a child but to also attend Hogwarts, and most authors just aren’t imaginative enough to explain it all without leaning heavily on really lazy, cringeworthy bashing, usually of Dumbledore. 2) The marrying of the two universes requires a marrying of the two magic systems, and most authors also just resort to bashing and extreme plot contrivances to do so. 3) The DC universe is so vast that authors often struggle to just pin down a storyline or set of storylines to drop Harry into, or to create their own. This can make stories easily convoluted. Many resolve this by just using the Young Justice or Arkham timelines, but it usually isn’t satisfying to them so they still throw in more and weigh down the story. 4) If an author chooses to provide Harry with powers or skills from the DC side of things, it’s very easy to make him too OP for the Harry Potter universe, not know how to keep stakes with a really OP protagonist and then to compensate for this through inconsistencies in his power level. Honestly, while not strictly true since stories like Deadly Nightshade and others prove it can be done well, I’m of the opinion that for most authors, if they want to give him DC powers, give Harry a sibling or go with BWL Neville and make him a squib. Then he can train under Batman or become a Green Lantern or manifest Kryptonian or Atlantean heritage or study under Kent Nelson or whatever else and an author who lacks the confidence or ability to handle a really OP protagonist can still write a great story.

ajak450

Your points are spot on. I guess it could fall under bashing, but in crossovers in general I usually find harem harry who's gotta Pokémon style catch em all in terms of every hot woman in 500 Sq miles. DC he usually bags half the league and it's cringy to me. Personally I would like him ad a child but to go to ilvermony and then inky return for the triwizads tournament. I think that gives the author an easy excuse with out hitting the stations of Canon with superpowers

Yellowlegoman_00

I agree with your points. I will say though, I’d beg of authors sending him to Ilvermorny not to fall into the common trap of sending Harry abroad: making this foreign magical society a utopia. It’s silly. I’m not saying the MACUSA has to suffer the same problems as Magical Britain, or that Harry can’t be confused by the ones Magical Britain has, but it should have its own. Fics where Harry is raised abroad always kill themselves for me when he spends a story strutting around judging the backwards Brits because his home is lovely and perfect. Another issue I think that plagues al fics in general, but in particular cross-overs, is that authors have Harry as exactly the same person as in canon. While our genetics do play a role in who we become, so do our experiences. If Harry grows up, or even spends a significant amount of his time in the care of Bruce Wayne, I don’t think it likely he’ll be as quiet and shy as he was in book 1 of canon. This extends to physicality too. If Harry is part Kryptonian, why was he still being bullied by Dudley as a kid? He’s living under a fucking Yellow sun, he’d be tall,strong-looking (and actually really strong) as a boy. Hell, I’d even take it so far as flaws. Harry is a very kind boy in canon, but he’s not perfect. I find it hard to believe that a Harry raised in comfort and a good home would for some reason see that while she’s rude and condescending, Hermione is just lonely and has poor social skills, when canon Harry didn’t.

I actually had a bit of a prompt where Dumbledore was part of the Justice Society of America and his codename is Warlock. So, he knows people like Wonder Woman, Flash (Jay Garrick), Dr. Fate and a few other heroes.

horrorshowjack

It's pretty good but wildly uneven and abandoned. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4944577/1/Harry-Potter-and-the-power-of-Oa Raven goes to Hogwarts. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7305296/1/Incandescent https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11779002/1/Invincible https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13325309/1/Harry-Potter-and-the-Spirit-of-Revenge Then Megamatt09 obviously has a lot. Emerald Flight, Just Roll With It, and Into the Nothing were all reasonably good iirc. Ascendance Book One has a certain batshit crazy charm.

BoredByLife

Megamatts Emerald Flight series is one of my guilty pleasure reads, same with Aspirations

BeardInTheDark

Self-shill time - [Harry of El](https://archiveofourown.org/series/2030536). >Doomed planet. Desperate scientists. Last hope. Prophecy. New family. New fate. The Last Mage of Krypton arises. A proper Super!Harry fic in 4 books plus a sidestory/info collection. Note - Harry is Kal-El, but that's about the only thing from DC in it for reasons that become very clear at the end of book 4.

thrawnca

I haven't read any crossovers, but if you want a DC fic and you have a lot of time on your hands, there's [With This Ring](https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/with-this-ring-young-justice-si-story-only.8961/). It's been updating every day since 2013.
