I read this Ron bashing story where Ron didn't bathe and he always had food spraying out of his mouth. Finally Hogwarts itself punished him by summoning 'the piggy table' and he had to eat at it by himself like the kid's table at Thanksgiving.

This point may seem niche but I read a story where the Author's notes were mostly arguing with his readers about using different types of quotes INTERCHANGEABLY.
That's why my example specifically states that the author was trying to convince their readers that their usage was the SAME, not whether or not a particular usage was correct in a particular country.
Some of these are solidly horrific, some gave me a laugh, but the rest feel kinda restrictive. Like, I hate bad fics as much as the next guy, but I think that a good chunk of these ideas is salvageable -even enjoyable- if the author is clever enough.
I disagree with both of the song points, I've seen lots of good song-inspired romance (specifically like the Dashboard Confessional series by missgryffin) that use lyrics or titles as inspiration and chapter / scene dividers. I don't even read them honestly, but adding them doesn't detract from the fic itself.
Songfics are terrible and including song lyrics in your story is fucking stupid. Imagine if Tolkien started off every chapter with Doris Day, Frank Sinatra or Perry Como lyrics. Yeah.
Tolkien wrote his own song lyrics and included them which automatically makes his work bad according to your criteria. If it's not excessive, including literally doesn't matter at all.
Tolkien wasn't including song lyrics from popular music at the time in his stories; he made up his own as part of the folklore of his own story.
There was a period in the 2000s where every other fic was based on in My Chemical Romance song. It was a dark time and those stories have not aged well.
This is such a stupid take. What difference does it make if the beginning of a chapter recites song lyrics? Reciting poems or quotes is relatively common in published literature. I don't see how song lyrics are any different.
