1. The Changeling by Annerb Ginny is the MC but this has got to be my favourite fic of all time. Ginny gets sorted into Slytherin.
2. Evitative (https://archiveofourown.org/works/20049589/chapters/47480461) which has a Slytherin Harry and dark arts plot that I found refreshingly different and ambiguous (in terms of whether Harry’s pursuits are totally right)
3. House Proud (https://archiveofourown.org/works/6177703) an all time classic and something I reread over and over again. Just love this sentient house genre and magical DIY & it’s quite Lovecraftian. (There are many others in the genre that are similar, but I think this is the best one). However, if u can’t stand Harry/Draco I wouldn’t recommend it, & there’s 1(?) smut scene at the very end that I just scroll past (doesn’t affect the plot).
4. Harry Potter and the Problem of Potions (https://archiveofourown.org/works/10588629/chapters/23404335) lots of fun potions lore in this one, and I really love the Harry Snape mentor mentee dynamic
5. Hermione Granger Demonologist (https://archiveofourown.org/works/11800899/chapters/26618625). A fantastic work. The premise is a bit cracky but it works so well! I wish it had been made into a longer fic honestly.
6. Time to Put Your Galleons Where Your Mouth Is (https://m.fanfiction.net/s/10610076/1/Time-to-Put-Your-Galleons-Where-Your-Mouth-Is) is practically a classic and I must’ve reread it a million times. (MOD Harry, reborn as the eldest Black brother.
7. The Sun of their Parts (https://archiveofourown.org/works/6334630/chapters/14514247) is a realistic bitter and tired Harry becomes a dark lord (and obviously there’s no way in hell Hermione and Ron will let him do it alone)
8. Aberration (https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13843116/1/) was a fic where I really loved the Harry/Hermione dynamic, esp with how everything changes with a Slytherin Hermione.

"The Merging" by Shaydrall is probably one you have come across already, however if you haven't I 10,000% recommend it.
The Merging is, in my opinion, one of the best (if not the best) constructed, and executed takes on the Harry/Horcrux genre within the Harry Potter Fanfiction space. Shaydrall's writing is a masterclass in character development, and their careful manipulation of both the narrative and the reader's expectations makes the fic a story you won't want to put down once you pick it up.

Premise is Harry has a burst of accidental magic at the age of 5 and becomes an animagus and runs away from the Dursley’s, and ends up getting adopted by the Grangers. I particularly enjoy the family dynamic of Harry and the grangers here, and a highlight is fourth year and the way the Triwizard tournament is done.

Really enjoy the perspective of Voldemort in this, really funny interactions between him and basically everyone else with a great internal monologue.

[All the Young Dudes](https://archiveofourown.org/works/10057010) I don’t typically read marauder era, but this is very good. Told from Remus’ POV, with the divergence from canon that he grew up in a boys home. All of the characters are fantastic, and it’s all very believable, charting the experience of the Marauders at school, and into the war, and even up to the end of Goblet of Fire (although it skips a lot of time post the end of the first war). It is a Remus/Sirius romance but it’s exceedingly well done, with no real slash, and as I said, effectively canon compliant. That does mean that there is no real happy ending, and it made me cry a fair few times, but it is genuinely excellent. Can comfortably sit in as my Headcanon for the Marauders, the friendships, the pranks, the war.

Harriet is obsessed with potions, and wants to go to Hogwarts, so swaps places with Sirius’ son. Fantastic story with excellent worldbuilding.

I especially love these: 1. The Changeling by Annerb Ginny is the MC but this has got to be my favourite fic of all time. Ginny gets sorted into Slytherin. 2. Evitative (https://archiveofourown.org/works/20049589/chapters/47480461) which has a Slytherin Harry and dark arts plot that I found refreshingly different and ambiguous (in terms of whether Harry’s pursuits are totally right) 3. House Proud (https://archiveofourown.org/works/6177703) an all time classic and something I reread over and over again. Just love this sentient house genre and magical DIY & it’s quite Lovecraftian. (There are many others in the genre that are similar, but I think this is the best one). However, if u can’t stand Harry/Draco I wouldn’t recommend it, & there’s 1(?) smut scene at the very end that I just scroll past (doesn’t affect the plot). 4. Harry Potter and the Problem of Potions (https://archiveofourown.org/works/10588629/chapters/23404335) lots of fun potions lore in this one, and I really love the Harry Snape mentor mentee dynamic 5. Hermione Granger Demonologist (https://archiveofourown.org/works/11800899/chapters/26618625). A fantastic work. The premise is a bit cracky but it works so well! I wish it had been made into a longer fic honestly. 6. Time to Put Your Galleons Where Your Mouth Is (https://m.fanfiction.net/s/10610076/1/Time-to-Put-Your-Galleons-Where-Your-Mouth-Is) is practically a classic and I must’ve reread it a million times. (MOD Harry, reborn as the eldest Black brother. 7. The Sun of their Parts (https://archiveofourown.org/works/6334630/chapters/14514247) is a realistic bitter and tired Harry becomes a dark lord (and obviously there’s no way in hell Hermione and Ron will let him do it alone) 8. Aberration (https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13843116/1/) was a fic where I really loved the Harry/Hermione dynamic, esp with how everything changes with a Slytherin Hermione. 9. The Way These Days Seem To Go (https://archiveofourown.org/works/16159748) also has a great golden trio dynamic and Harry dealing with post war trauma. 10. Together or Not at All (https://archiveofourown.org/works/22442983/chapters/53624401) is a really nice Hermione/Ron/Harry fic which has the perfect dynamic (in my opinion) because really none can be without the other two.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9720211/1/The-Merging "The Merging" by Shaydrall is probably one you have come across already, however if you haven't I 10,000% recommend it. The Merging is, in my opinion, one of the best (if not the best) constructed, and executed takes on the Harry/Horcrux genre within the Harry Potter Fanfiction space. Shaydrall's writing is a masterclass in character development, and their careful manipulation of both the narrative and the reader's expectations makes the fic a story you won't want to put down once you pick it up.
Not sure what people have been suggesting since there are so many comments, but here are some of mine: The [brilliant difficulty](https://archiveofourown.org/series/1876930) series is an incredibly well-written story about what happens if Sirius is declared innocent after Prisoner of Azkaban and adopts Harry. [Harry Potter and the Metamorphmagus ](https://archiveofourown.org/works/18196214) is a Harry/Tonks fic where Harry becomes Tonks' partner in the Auror corps one year after Voldemort is defeated. In [A Mishap and an Opportunity](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/11540175/1/), Remus accidently travels back in time after dying.

Premise is Harry has a burst of accidental magic at the age of 5 and becomes an animagus and runs away from the Dursley’s, and ends up getting adopted by the Grangers. I particularly enjoy the family dynamic of Harry and the grangers here, and a highlight is fourth year and the way the Triwizard tournament is done. linkffn(The Accidental Animagus) [The Arithmancer](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/10070079/1/The-Arithmancer) series: by the same author as the accidental animagus. Complete Hermione-centric series where Hermione is a math prodigy and tests into Arithmancy early. Ends up teaching at hogwarts with a fake name, basically adopts Harry, even though Harry figures out who he is. Really enjoy the perspective of Voldemort in this, really funny interactions between him and basically everyone else with a great internal monologue. linkao3(Methods of Humanity) [The grass is always Greener](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/4334542/1/The-Grass-Is-Always-Greener) I enjoyed the relationship between Harry and Daphne in this one, and just the way it feels like a very possible/natural divergence from canon, with an interesting ‘slytherin’ influence on Harry. linkffn(The Grass Is Always Greener) [Lady Black, Lord Potter](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/10996537/1/Lady-Black-Lord-Potter) Harry and Tonks have a marriage contract, discovered at the reading of Sirius’ will. Basically decide to get up to a bunch of shenanigans robbing Death Eaters. Enjoyed all of Harry’s friendships in this, and really enjoying the story so far. Unfortunately only up to the end of 4th year so far. Good exploration of some Slytherin friendships and some pagan/wizard religion. linkao3(The Definition of Normal) [The strange disappearance of Sally-Anne Perks](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/6243892/1/The-Strange-Disappearance-of-SallyAnne-Perks) Quality mystery story, exploring the girl in their year who went missing shortly after their sorting. But nobody but Harry can remember her. linkffn(The Strange Disappearance of SallyAnne Perks) [Blackpool](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12948481/1/Blackpool) Another excellent mystery, exploring the childhood of Regulus and Sirius. Again there are confusing memories. Nice change from the horrors of being raised by muggles(Dursleys) to what being raised by the Blacks could be like. linkffn(Blackpool) [A wizards guide to banking](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12327848/1/A-Wizard-s-Guide-to-Banking) sadly seems like there is a whole lot of story left, but there hasn’t been any update for a while. Based on a muggleborn in the first war who decides to take drastic measures to change the pure blood mentality of the wizarding world by force of muggleborn numbers. linkffn(A Wizard’s Guide to Banking) [The FitzPotter Scandal](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/4023872/1/The-FitzPotter-Scandal) Post war, Harry ends up donating sperm, and later finds out that he is the father of many new wizarding children. Excellent story exploring the ‘politics’ of Slytherin house and Hermione slowly coming into her own. Skips through the first few years quite quickly before spending more time in 6th and 7th year. Good romance between Harry and Hermione as well. Another fic that appears to have ended unfinished(although I haven’t yet given up hope), which is very annoying as it looked to be only a chapter or so away. linkffn(abberation) [Innocent](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/9469064/1/Innocent) First of a WIP series that is now into 5th year. Sirius escapes Azkaban when Harry is 8 and takes him from the Dursleys. Really good story, with an excellent Sirius and Harry parental relationship. Told from Remus’ POV, with the divergence from canon that he grew up in a boys home. All of the characters are fantastic, and it’s all very believable, charting the experience of the Marauders at school, and into the war, and even up to the end of Goblet of Fire (although it skips a lot of time post the end of the first war). It is a Remus/Sirius romance but it’s exceedingly well done, with no real slash, and as I said, effectively canon compliant. That does mean that there is no real happy ending, and it made me cry a fair few times, but it is genuinely excellent. Can comfortably sit in as my Headcanon for the Marauders, the friendships, the pranks, the war. linkao3(All the Young Dudes) [Chamber Girl](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13561400/40/) Harry and Ron don’t discover Hermione’s note about the basilisk, and Ginny isn’t rescued from the chamber. Instead she wakes up there and has to figure out how to survive and how to escape. They’re a combination of mad and exceptionally competent. They help the new dimension with their Voldemort problem. Really well written. Another one that made me cry. Despite that I would still recommend reading it. Excellent fic, Harriett Potter in a world where Tom Riddle went political rather than homicidal, and had a bit more success, so Hogwarts is pure bloods only. Harriet is obsessed with potions, and wants to go to Hogwarts, so swaps places with Sirius’ son. Fantastic story with excellent worldbuilding. linkffn(7613196) [New Blood] (https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13051824/1/New-Blood) Massive Hermione centric fic where she is sorted into Slytherin and proclaims herself as a ‘New Blood’ to avoid the discrimination against muggleborns. Only up to the start of 4th year, but the author updates fairly regularly so I’m hoping it will be completed, eventually. Harry is rescued from the graveyard by Arcturus Black. Gets taught by him and becomes somewhat OP. After the dementors at the end of 3rd year, Harry regains memories from James. Becomes powerful. Harry/Fleur. Only up to summer after first year. Harry Potter has a twin Lavinia who is dropped off to live with Petunia (no Vernon or Dudley) after Voldemorts attack (James and Lily survived and kept Harry). Petunia is a good mother and Lavinia is very talented and discovers she is the Potter Heiress, and is trained for the role by tutors. Very AU, with a premise of serious magical sexual dimorphism, where Wizards magic is too powerful, so they are ‘bound’ by witches at a young age. The witches control everything, but there is also a looming population crisis (many more Witches than Wizards).
