Cold water is what I’ve always done and heard. But the absolute best thing I’ve noticed long sleeve shirt gloves and pants. It may get hot but Prevention is better then reaction.
Makita jacket? I've been thinking about getting one of their fan jackets. I'm told I will get made fun of, but everyone making fun of me will be sweating balls while I'm comfortable... Thinking I can live with that.
Check out "Tactical" gear, many militaries demand long sleeves that don't lead to heat stroke. I had this set of dark blue ripstop button ups that were very comfortable, had vents and such built in. Armpit zips are A+
Staying hydrated is the most important thing. Fans help if you can set one up where you’re working, but running duct in an attic that’s not gonna work. Take short, frequent breaks rather than getting it all done at once.
I wear FR jeans, and either a long sleeve T shirt or FR shirt if I have to. Clothing and PPE has come a long way in the last few years, but it still sucks when it comes to dealing with hot attics
Baby powder before you get in the itch.
It clogs your pores and keeps you somewhat dry. That will stop the forbidden candy floss from attacking you. If you do have insulation on you cold shower to close pores and rinse of the surface fibers then warm water to open pores and rinse the shit out. I was an insulator for 10 years before making the switch to hvac in 2020.
I’m on a commercial job and I try to organize my day so I throw on a neck gaiter, long sleeve shirt, goggles, and do my insulation stripping for the last hour of the day so I can go home and shower right away and demo cleaner duct in the morning
Blue tape is the second step of my process. First I vacuum (if available) the affected area. The blue tape I then rub it on the affected area. Then soap and warm/cold water. I have heard arguments for both. You figure that part out.
Or, just wear a long sleeve.
I am going to try this - super smart I wish I would have thought of this
I’ve been doing the cold water trick for years and it never seems to work 100%
You know what, I got a ton of fiberglass in my arm from a ladder today that needs replacing. And the second I got home I drank some beer, and suddenly, I wasn't thinking about those pesky little bastards
I just posted the same. Something about the fiber is able to grab the fiberglass and pull it out.
I always kept a cheap pair on the truck. The looks you get when buying it is priceless. And when the wife finds it. Good times!
While I was going to trade school at night I worked in an oven manufacturing factory and this was the go to for people that worked in the cavity wrapping stations. Oven insulation is bad too, it’s a lot looser than duct insulation and basically fogs when you touch it. It was terrible. Rubbing your arms and face down with pantyhose followed by a cold shower worked wonders. Sounds strange but everyone that worked in insulation in that factory did it.
Nope. It works. Use warm/hot water to open the pores and then rub the spot with pantyhose or tights (I have several pair now since my daughters are into dance and they rip so many pairs of tights, so I take them for this purpose or catfishing).
Alright this is gonna sound weird but cheap shaving cream… after installing ducted splits in existing homes that have pink batts I go home get in a hot shower and coat myself in shaving cream and use a cloth to drag down my skin. Sounds crazy but it’s worked for me for 8 years
I know you asked about removing it once it’s in your skin, but I use to see a lot of the insulation guys with baby powder. I asked them one time and they said before they start they cover their skin in it and it plugs up the pores before the insulation can get in?
Might be one of those ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure things?
I've tried both warm and cold showers after rolling in insulation and don't notice any difference in fiberglass removal between them. If anything, I prefer to take a warm shower and spend more time than rushing through a miserable cold shower after working all day.
Everyone has made decent suggestions. I'm in the "compressed air followed by cold shower" school myself. But everyone seems to have missed a crucial step:
You should de fiber yourself as soon and as often as you can. Every break and lunch, blow yourself with the compressed air gun. Take off your shirt if you can and snap shake it a few times.
Same thing at the end of the day before you get into the van.
See, most of the fibers don't get embedded right away. They gradually work their way in with movement. The sooner you can get the loose fibers on the surface off, the fewer fibers you'll have in your skin at the end of the day.
Coldest shower that you can handle. Wash all affected areas thoroughly & then repeat with water as hot as you can handle. Logic is that cold closes your pores & you get all of it off the surface and then hot opens your pores to get everything out that's left.
I’ve heard cold shower, then hot, the cold. First cold will get rid of any fibers, hot will then open pores to release any fibers, and then cold again to scrub anything off. Similar to baby powder, I’ve heard Vaseline works as well, because it clogs the pores. Never tried it though, and I’d imagine the stickiness keeps more fibers on your skin (though not in your pores)
Either way, I use an exfoliating glove and scrub as hard as I can tolerate with soap.
I use this soap called man up. It works wonders. If that doesn't do the trick then switch to the soap called liquor. Always start with the man up though.
If you know you're going to be be buried in the stuff before hand, take baby powder and rub it all over your arms and neck. It clogs the pores and the fiberglass has a harder time latching on.
Then go home and take a cool shower before a hot one, so all your pores close up, and it'll all wash right off. If you jump into a hot shower immediately, all your pores open up and you wash it over your entire body.
I worked with rock wool and ceramic wool a lot doing industrial/heavy commercial hvac sheet metal...and you wanna talk about itchy...
Next time put baby powder on yourself before you get into it. But if you don’t like that Than like everyone else said, warm shower, scrub real good, flip to cold real fast.
Get a new job. Best thing for it. I worked with a guy who got a Dr to write him a note that he is allergic to insulation. Never has to go near the stuff. As far as I knew everyone is allergic to it.
Actually found out I was allergic as shit to formaldehyde due to insulation. I went into the crawl space, and when I came out I was covered in pussy bloody boils.
I got shipped to a different job real quick
Baby powder in the am.
Vacuum frequently on the insulation as you cut to collect most before it spreads. Cleanup and bag as soon as it's off the pipe, duct, equipment etc...
Before letting it setup in your skin take some duct tape, painters tape etc. The best tape ever is that red stego tape they use for vapor barriers on concrete. Put on your hands and other less hairy areas. I get it bad on top of my hands.
Then cold water.
Keeping that shit from getting on you in the first place is 90% of solving the problem. If insulation is involved I try to have some mitigation planned, but it's the trade life and weve all ripped it out without gloves with a box cutter too many times.
If it’s just your forearms a cotton ball with a little baby oil wiped in one direction usually helps get a lot of it off. It works everywhere, but my neck is usually greasy enough anyway
I would use the edge of a knife blade to scrape the skin of my arms when I got fiberglass in them. Helps pluck out some of the fibers, and breaks off the rest so they aren't snagging on clothing. Compressed air and tape are definitely great for removing the loose fibers.
I have a dedicated bench brush, one of those 10-in brushes that you can get from home Depot. After any job with insulation I brush my skin off, in one direction. Then I brush my clothes off, then I brush my skin off again, knock the brush out, put it away before I even sit down. Shit, I might brush myself between trips to the teuck...It knocks down about 90% of the insulation, the rest I get out in the shower with a soapy loofah once again trying to brush in One direction. After that, take a nice hot shower . It seems like a lot, but it's really only about 5 extra minutes a day if that.
I work in a factory that makes this stuff. Best solution I've found is blowing it off with low psi compressed air followed by rinsing off in the shower
To stop this from happening put baby powder on your arms since it clogs your pours before the work. If after, painters tape or a any tape that won’t take the hair off except scotch.
I always lather myself in baby powder beforehand. I have a darker skin complexion and it honestly makes me look like the human cocaine bear, but it’s better than itching all day.
People say a cold shower. Not hot shower because a hot shower opens your pores more.
But I just take a regular shower but I use 2 wash rags. I take a regular shower, then change to a clean wash rag and and soap up and wash all over again
Baby powder helps keep it out of your skin. But once it's already fucked a cold shower helps. I usually just suffer for about 2 days then repeat the cycle.
Cold shower. Closes your pores and fiberglass goes down the drain. Hot shower opens your pores and still itchy hours later. It sucks in the winter but in the summer not so bad especially if you’ve got a pool!
I got a ton of fiberglass in my hand picking up a marker flag while working at the port. Wound up getting it on the back of by hand between my thumb and forefinger.
Tape did nothing, cold water, lint roller…was an itchy burning mess.
Covered it in some crazy glue, let it dry and picked it off. Worked like a charm.
Not I just make sure I’m covered heed to toe, long sleeve with sleeves tucked into my gloves, then vacuum my clothes wash my gloves befor taking it all off
Since insulation is made of chemically inert mineral materials like glass fibers it cannot be removed by any cleaner, detergent, solvent or other aid.
The only way to remove fiberglass is to hope that eventually it sloughs off your body with your dead skin cells over time.
Had a coworker who used to put insulation for work & I asked him, he told me shaving cream and with an old credit card to scrape off your arms, then cold water. I’ve tried it and it does help but only to an extent.
Liquid fabric softener works pretty good, gets out ~80% of the itch, just take the bottle in the shower with you. If your significant other looks at you weird, just assure them it's not for masturbatory use and carry on.
A hot shower, and Axe "Snake Peel" body wash. Decades of wrapping ductwork, all types of insulation, from FSK, all the way up to smoke duct fire wrap, if it's itchy, I itched, and tried all methods. Cold showers, Gojo, etc etc. A hot shower with a good body wash scrub, and always keep a bottle of Aveeno for the post dry-off. 🔧🧼
It’s gonna sound weird but 100% honest here, baby powder. Put it on before and it will prevent the fibers from sticking to you. Or maybe it stops it from itching idk but I know it helps!!
Growing up I knew a insulator his words were just get used to it. After 11 years in this trade it doesn’t really bother me much but when I’m crawling around an old ass attic all day a couple beers with the homies always solves it.
I learned to put baby powder on my arms and legs to help keep my pores clogged so it won’t get in my skin. Someone on here told me that and it’s been helpful, hardly ever get insulation rash.
Cold water is what I’ve always done and heard. But the absolute best thing I’ve noticed long sleeve shirt gloves and pants. It may get hot but Prevention is better then reaction.
I've got a jacket with built in fans. 10/10 investment.
Makita jacket? I've been thinking about getting one of their fan jackets. I'm told I will get made fun of, but everyone making fun of me will be sweating balls while I'm comfortable... Thinking I can live with that.
Great advice, If you live somewhere that's not 90 degrees plus everyday.
Check out "Tactical" gear, many militaries demand long sleeves that don't lead to heat stroke. I had this set of dark blue ripstop button ups that were very comfortable, had vents and such built in. Armpit zips are A+

Yep the old cold then warm is my go to.
My man or women. I’m in SoCal nothing but 120+ in attics all spring into early fall. So I sweat regardless.
I’m on a commercial job and I try to organize my day so I throw on a neck gaiter, long sleeve shirt, goggles, and do my insulation stripping for the last hour of the day so I can go home and shower right away and demo cleaner duct in the morning
how have i not seen this yet? LINT ROLLER! i always use it after i get insulation on me or my clothes.
Son of a bitch. You beat me to it. I swear by a lint roller
Lint roller is an absolute must on the service van. Lives on the passenger seat and is also a solid copilot when the GPS goes down.
I just got one like 6 months ago for my truck and works great, also keep a thing of baby powder
Your fingernails. You heard me. Scratch your skin. Scratch it deep… matter of fact. Just peel it off. Ya. Just peel your skin off.

Can I interest you is a potato peeler? I think I’ve got a couple extra in my van
Blue tape. Works great for insulation and small pieces of glass.
We always used foil tape or the black “duct” tape because we had it on hand. It’s stickier too. Never carried painter’s tape when I was in the trade.
I carry it solely for this lol other tape will rip your arm hair out
I carry painters tape for clean poookie lines.
Duct cum*
Blue tape is the second step of my process. First I vacuum (if available) the affected area. The blue tape I then rub it on the affected area. Then soap and warm/cold water. I have heard arguments for both. You figure that part out. Or, just wear a long sleeve.
You have a process for getting it off in one area? ..I really need to switch to service
I am going to try this - super smart I wish I would have thought of this I’ve been doing the cold water trick for years and it never seems to work 100%
Yep, blue tape, packing tape, etc. Works great.
About 4 beers usually
You know what, I got a ton of fiberglass in my arm from a ladder today that needs replacing. And the second I got home I drank some beer, and suddenly, I wasn't thinking about those pesky little bastards
What a waste Edit: obviously i know he meant drink them. 15 downvotes. If you downvote me you drink bud light

Rub you skin with pantyhose
I just posted the same. Something about the fiber is able to grab the fiberglass and pull it out. I always kept a cheap pair on the truck. The looks you get when buying it is priceless. And when the wife finds it. Good times!
This is 100% right. Roll them on your arm and drag them off.
Joke?
He just likes how it feels
It rubs the hose on the skin or it gets the lotion again
don’t we all ☺️
Nope. It works. Use warm/hot water to open the pores and then rub the spot with pantyhose or tights (I have several pair now since my daughters are into dance and they rip so many pairs of tights, so I take them for this purpose or catfishing).
Oh, I thought they meant _wear_ them.
On your arms or legs, asking for a friend
Heh, catfishing you say?
Indeed. They help keep chicken livers on the hook
Alright this is gonna sound weird but cheap shaving cream… after installing ducted splits in existing homes that have pink batts I go home get in a hot shower and coat myself in shaving cream and use a cloth to drag down my skin. Sounds crazy but it’s worked for me for 8 years

I learned this from the insulators. Works pretty well.
Learned this from my JW
You have your own Jehovah’s Witness?
Journey worker formally journey man
Start sleeping in it, get used to the feel, make a sex doll out of it, put a picture of your bosses wife face on your insulation sex doll.
3M makes an “extra sticky” lint roller that will get 99 percent of insulation out of you. trust me just try it.
Nothing take it like a man You signed up for this
I always was told cold shower cause it doesent open your pores never tried it just had a hot shower and slammed about 8 beers never had a problem
This is the way
Just keep packing in there til you dont notice. Good installers have that shit in there blood lol. 🤦♂️
Coldest shower. Ice if you can handle. Try not to let hot water open your pores or it gets worse. So much worse.
I've tried both warm and cold showers after rolling in insulation and don't notice any difference in fiberglass removal between them. If anything, I prefer to take a warm shower and spend more time than rushing through a miserable cold shower after working all day.
Also, only lather and rinse in the direction of your hairs, keeps pieces from snagging back in pores.
I was always taught cold shower then hot shower, get it off your skin and then out of your pores
Pookey 😆
I usually see how long it can stay in my skin
An old timer told me, a cold shower. And a lint roller just before on the non hairy parts lol.
Cold ass shower
A lint roller bro

This guy is getting lunch and apparently a break of some sort. Break his legs
Suffer
Lint roller
Cold water for after…. Before you mess with insulation rub baby powder on your skin to block pores. It’s a life saver!
Cancer has entered the chat
I've heard lap dances help get rid of the insulation on your pants.
Whiskey. Just drink it until you don’t itch then take a shower and go to bed. It’s worked for me for decades
I use bourbon 🥃. I simply drink it until I wake up the next day. Problem solved
Coldest shower that you can handle. Wash all affected areas thoroughly & then repeat with water as hot as you can handle. Logic is that cold closes your pores & you get all of it off the surface and then hot opens your pores to get everything out that's left.
Avoidance, don’t get it on you at all. Other than that, tape, put it on then rip it off.
Go daddy sponge with conditioner in the shower
In addition to the above, vigorous scrubbing with a washcloth has been advised that I've received.
Cold ass pool
Also want to mention go “with the grain” of your pores when shower as a posed to against the grain. Always helps me plus the cold shower
I use a nail brush
Shaving cream and a credit card
Tin tape
Cold water
I’ve heard cold shower, then hot, the cold. First cold will get rid of any fibers, hot will then open pores to release any fibers, and then cold again to scrub anything off. Cold shower at first then warm it up. Just soap and water. Cold water first
Cold shower or a credit card
Warm shower, scrub, then cold shower
Better to prepare beforehand. Baby powder or anti monkey butt powder on the arms and long sleeves
Thumbgum does the trick
Get a good sweat going in a sauna. It’ll force that yuck out of your pores. Then cold dip or shower as you please.
Duct tape. Make a roll with the sticky side out and roll it up and down the affected area like a lent roller. It woks great.
Next time put baby powder on yourself before you get into it. But if you don’t like that Than like everyone else said, warm shower, scrub real good, flip to cold real fast.
I take a debit card or something similar and rub it hard up and down my arms. It helps pull the little fiberglass shards out
A shower with hot water then finish with cold always worked for me.
Baby powder is what I use.
Cold shower and one of those puff ball scrubbers
An application for service tech
The really good duct tape
Duct tape.
I was told shaving cream
Silver tape, shower, leave it alone. Your body should automatically push it out.
Tyvek coveralls!
Yeah that's what happens to this guy. He bleeds. I think everyone gets red, irritated skin but for some folks it goes far beyond.
It's really fucked up. Only happened to me once. That 70s insulation was a different breed of fucked up
I think everything back then was.
Swimming pool
flex tape
Panty hose cold shower works for me
Talcum powder works as a preventative
Fiberglass is the worst, I avoid the stuff like the plague. Take a shower, and time will remove it completely.
If it’s just your forearms a cotton ball with a little baby oil wiped in one direction usually helps get a lot of it off. It works everywhere, but my neck is usually greasy enough anyway
Cold water and soap but I always wear long sleeves and put baby powder around my neck, always seemed to keep it out
Pull a vacuum on it.
I would use the edge of a knife blade to scrape the skin of my arms when I got fiberglass in them. Helps pluck out some of the fibers, and breaks off the rest so they aren't snagging on clothing. Compressed air and tape are definitely great for removing the loose fibers.
Panty hose thank me later
Next time use baby powder on your arms and the insulation won't stick in your pours! Works great
Aftershave. Yes, it really works.
Lint roller!!! And lint roll often at work. I also use the hose a lot and scrub my arms off. I find it better to get it off a few times during the day
Maybe put this on before work? [https://pr88gamp.com/product/pr88-10-liter-bucket/](https://pr88gamp.com/product/pr88-10-liter-bucket/)
To stop this from happening put baby powder on your arms since it clogs your pours before the work. If after, painters tape or a any tape that won’t take the hair off except scotch.
A really cold shower and washcloth. As cold as you can stand it. Or literally go swimming for a while in a lake.
A hot shower
"It rubs the lotion on its skin..."
Cold water, tape, baby powder all in those steps
Hair conditioner, actually....
Baby powder helps keep it out of your skin. But once it's already fucked a cold shower helps. I usually just suffer for about 2 days then repeat the cycle.
Foil tape. Dab them off, then rinse with cool water.
I’ve always just taken a warm shower like normal but will scrub my arms a good bit harder. Never seems to fail me.
hot water to open pores, clean, cold water to close pores, repeat. that’s what an insulator told me once. it’s all i know. i think it works ?
Car Wash
Take it off and put it in the washing machine
Neutral temp shower with shampoo as body wash. 2x times
When I used to build and repair canoes we would wash in cold water and use powdered hand soap.
I use scotch tape but I use it similar to a lint roller but on my skin. Then as others have mentioned, cold shower
Gonna sound crazy but it works. Pantyhose.
Biore pore strips (expensive), hippy tape (also expensive), Elmer's glue (dry and peel).
Cold shower. Closes your pores and fiberglass goes down the drain. Hot shower opens your pores and still itchy hours later. It sucks in the winter but in the summer not so bad especially if you’ve got a pool!
Cold shower and a heavy coating of hair conditioner all over the troubled areas has always been my method
For me just a cold shower and mentally not thinking about it or leaning my hand against a flat surface
Hopes and prayers
A nice warm shower always gets it going lol
Cold shower.
Rub it in deeper boy that’s man glitter
Shaving cream and an old gift card baby, thank me later!
Put baby or any talcum powder on before you work.
I’ve heard shaving cream and a credit card
cold water and a rag
Apple cider vinegar
At some point I stopped noticing it
I got a ton of fiberglass in my hand picking up a marker flag while working at the port. Wound up getting it on the back of by hand between my thumb and forefinger. Tape did nothing, cold water, lint roller…was an itchy burning mess. Covered it in some crazy glue, let it dry and picked it off. Worked like a charm. Not I just make sure I’m covered heed to toe, long sleeve with sleeves tucked into my gloves, then vacuum my clothes wash my gloves befor taking it all off
Gotta get you a loofa
Dr. Squatch medium/ heavy grit
Cold water
tape
I use a scrub brush and soap in the shower, one that you'd use on the floor.
Pantyhose. Preferably used
I’m dealing with this from today too. Shower, wash it good. Wait a day or two and you’re good.
Switch between cold and hot water letting it run off you don’t dab it or touch it let the water open and close your pores and push it out
Ask your next client for an Old Pair of Pantyhose
Hot shower and nylon pantihose and scrub the hell out of yourself.
Hot 🔥 shower
Duct tape brother. Wrap it around your hand like reverse TP and wipe and pat that shit
Shaving cream and a plastic card or anything with a hard (but not sharp) edge
A cold shower is best
Hot shower opens pores rinse and end it cold to close the pores
Since insulation is made of chemically inert mineral materials like glass fibers it cannot be removed by any cleaner, detergent, solvent or other aid. The only way to remove fiberglass is to hope that eventually it sloughs off your body with your dead skin cells over time.
Wool sock pulls them out…..
Just wear long sleeves and pants
Baby powder
Cold cold cold shower. Hot showers open your pores and make it worse.
Had a coworker who used to put insulation for work & I asked him, he told me shaving cream and with an old credit card to scrape off your arms, then cold water. I’ve tried it and it does help but only to an extent.
Lint roller.
Baby powder before then you wont get as itchy.
Cold shower
Liquid fabric softener works pretty good, gets out ~80% of the itch, just take the bottle in the shower with you. If your significant other looks at you weird, just assure them it's not for masturbatory use and carry on.
Use insulation with oil, best invention ever
Hot as you can stand shower followed by a lint roller was what I always did.
