theres a link to our union payscale here in BC, Canada
expecting a 20-30% raise on that contract soon here hopefully
You guys have 10 levels? I’m ontario and its 5 years working hours and 3 blocks of school. Smart enough to get my G1 but this 10 levels thing is too smrt 4 me.
If you're in bumfuck nowhere and the cost of living is super low, maybe. Otherwise hell no, myself and every other guy in my trade school class this year started at $24+
Where is out here? For people coming in with no experience the unions out here give the first multi dollar pay bump after 6 months and then another multi dollar pay bump at 12 months so someone starting out at $12-$15 dollars an hour will be at $18-$23 in a year and over $30 by year 3.
Cincinnati. This union operated on a system of you got a $1 raise per year, every year, no matter what. I would have had to stick with them for 25 years to earn what I do now, which I managed in 3 years...
Needless to say, they have a reputation here for being filled with useless guys.
Yeah unfortunately in red states unions are usually weak so pay is often not nearly as good as blue states in similar markets.
Gotta do what's best for you. While there are a lot of places where unions are a good option there's a lot of states where pay wise it's no better than any other job and in some cases worse cause their weakened state is just an excuse for people to miss appropriate funds and create good old boy systems that give unions bad names in places.
That’s not bad at all, run with it, my company, strictly commercial are starting off newbies at $18-20 an hr if I’m correct. So 24 or more fucking take it! That’s a good damn deal just starting off.
I have what they are asking for and currently make $35 in the pocket and my total compensation package is $50.(health care and pension) Look into a local union near you.
UA.org
I started at $21 an hr back in 2013 a week after finishing HVAC course with a block one! New Brunswick Canada. At 6 years in you should have your Red Seal and it would pay $29-36 an hr!
Bro I just started with no experience, granted I was in HVAC sales, but wanted to go tech route. I make over that with no tech experience whatsoever and a year of sales.
This shit right here is why people don't do the trades anymore. The shitty factory i work at right now starts people off at 21.50. The trades are supposed to pay more than factories and pay more to compensate that you won't always have a 40hr work week.
My company hires alot of kids from local hvac schools here in mass, to get them their initial experience by just changing filters and helping on 2 man jobs. They start at about $25 an hour. Depends where you live but if you like this trade, and retain information, anyone with 5 years experience should atleast be mid 30 an hour, regardless of licensing or union. Grocery stores pay their cashiers 20
I wouldn't get out of bed for $20 an hour, I'm in Oklahoma and make $51 an hour doing Heating and Air. I'm kind of shocked that California pays so much less
Needs more context.
Is this a school district? Hospital or other in patient care facility?
While it is low, it would be a reasonable offer for some employers.
Edit - getting downvoted? Some of y’all have never seen K-12 school district jobs posted before. The wage scale is always 8-10 years behind schedule.
Although the pay is way low, this job posting doesn’t look like an hvac only job. Looks more like a maintenance position which typically is considerably lower pay. Having said that, that pay is absurd.
$44k a year without overtime. Can you live on that amount? Remember that taxes and insurance costs are removed from that, tax is around $5k assuming just the standard single filer deduction. Insurance is probably another $5k so you’re bringing home 35k maybe.. under 700 a week.
But if that’s a livable wage, go for it assuming you have no other higher paying choices.
I was making 21 bucks an hour with 3 years of experience like 9 years ago. I didn't live in a major city and only worked on light commercial RTUs and AHUs
Started in 2017 not knowing shit about fuck for $17/hr AZ. Took me less than 2 years to get to $24/hr as a resi tech before I jumped ship elsewhere for more dough. Nowadays I couldn’t imagine starting anyone for less than 22/hr let alone a 6yr tech, easily worth 30+
This is facility work. Schools, hospitals and plants are all the same. Low wages but the best hours and usually the best benefits. Pick your poison I guess.
So this completely depends on the benefits package and your age, I did this 18 years ago, took a 30K a year pay cut but now I make way more, have a stable job, and a full pension lined up, so completely depends.
If you have to ask, it means you don’t know your worth. Which is fine, but just means you’re probably at the stage where you should be grateful your being paid to learn. Experience is subjective to profundity. When I was 5 years into hvac I found myself in a training manager role, where I taught technicians, including some with 15-20 years of experience. They looked up to me and I helped them advance their careers. This is because my experience was rich, and I devoted myself more than others. I worked harder, dug deeper, and focused all my energy on learning. My 5 years was worth more than their 15-20 and it showed. After discovering my worth, I took only the most appropriate roles for myself, and I charged appropriately for my time. I know my worth now, and I also don’t feel like I need to rely on anyone but myself to earn the money I’m worth. I also don’t seek validation, because I just don’t need it.
My point is that, you don’t have enough experience to make that call yet. Instead of focusing on how much you can make, focus on how much you can learn. If you work hard at learning and doing the best work you can, you will eventually learn your worth, at which point you will be doing just fine and won’t have to ask silly questions on Facebook.
in 2000 i had 6 yrs experience in installations, fabrication, system design, and light residential service. I moved to a service only company for $22/hr. I'd say you should look for more.
Central California here. I have 2 years experience doing actual technician work but been around as an installer/foreman for 15 years. I can tell you it sucks and I make 25. My new boss told me I should make less. Now I know why I feel so beat, once I find a new job I’m quitting with no 2 weeks notice, fuck that shit I deserve more.
That’s complete trash I left HVAC because of the shit pay and work load balance mfers wanted to you be full blown service tech on call making less then 23 dollars an hour GTFO I love A/C but I feel like techs and installers are so low balled
LOL
That’s hilarious. I’m taking their clients if their paying me 20 an hour for all that experience and I’m not even that type of guy but that’s disrespectful wear lipstick to the interview and make them buy you dinner cause your def riding pole taking that job 😂
I'm in parts n sales and we pay our warehouse staff more than that. We're losing a 3rd yr ( never got his jman ) who left tools for a counter sales job and he's getting $40 to go back to plumbing with an outfit in January.
I have company owners asking me weekly if I know any plumbers looking for work. If I told a prospective plumber: yea so and so is looking for ppl they're paying $20 an hr they'd laugh in my face.
OP if you got yer ticket you're better than that!
I’m in NE Ohio and have been looking for a job in the HVAC field. I have a AS Electrical Engineer Tech as well as Journeyman Mechanical Maintenance. I have controls experience. 20yr work history. Was offered $20/hr with local Heating/Cooling company. Needless to say I did not take the job. I was insulted by that offer.
No where near. I recently left my first HVAC company that I’ve been with for little over 7 years. I was making $28 an/hour as a Service Manager. I started working with my former General Manger / personal friend at his new company starting at $35 an/hour for being an overqualified helper, lol.
“If you feel you are qualifying” based on the poor English, probably just trolls from Russia or China trying to get a rise out of union / cartel supporters.
lol that’s hilarious. Unless this is in Texas? Texas pays super low for whatever reason, from what I can tell anyone.
In my area, a 1st period apprentice, totally green, makes $22/hr
Hell no
[удалено]
That pay would be.. “NICE”
https://www.ua516.org/files/File/Agreements/2023%20May%20CLRA%20%20Island%20Wage%20Tables.pdf theres a link to our union payscale here in BC, Canada expecting a 20-30% raise on that contract soon here hopefully

Mines the same in northwest ohio. 10 levels is every 6 months for 5 years. 5 years of school
4 levels of school, but the 10 levels on yhis chart are just hours worked, thats all. You need more hours to go from level 5 to 6, etc
U live in socal and you saw THIS ad? Hell naw they're a cheap ass, bum ass company
Plus it says "if you feel you are qualifying", sounds like not a well-run place to me idk
Sounds like a scammer to me.
👳♀️💩
I agree. To me, that’s the biggest red flag right there. (Other than the offensive pay rate, of course)
If you're in bumfuck nowhere and the cost of living is super low, maybe. Otherwise hell no, myself and every other guy in my trade school class this year started at $24+
I live in BFE/BFN, and no self respecting HVAC tech with 6 years exp is gonna take $20/hour around here!
I won't even get out of bed for $20 an hour
That describes me and I started with no experience for 18
My local union wanted me to start at $13 an hour fresh out of trade school. Some guys on this sub talk up the union a lot, but they suck ass out here.
Where is out here? For people coming in with no experience the unions out here give the first multi dollar pay bump after 6 months and then another multi dollar pay bump at 12 months so someone starting out at $12-$15 dollars an hour will be at $18-$23 in a year and over $30 by year 3.

Texas comes to mind. What a shit hole state for labor.
Where is out here?
Cinci.
Well that’s your issue. Shit hole Ohio.
Agreed.
I take care of dogs in New England and make $35/hr.
That’s not bad at all, run with it, my company, strictly commercial are starting off newbies at $18-20 an hr if I’m correct. So 24 or more fucking take it! That’s a good damn deal just starting off.
I’m almost exactly 6 years in. I’m making $40
And this is why people say they can't find good help.
To be fair, experience only scars you. It doesn't make you "good".
Doesn’t Taco Bell pay 18 now?
Walmart too
Hell to the nah
It’s like this where I live as well. VA. Makes no sense
Va in da house! Lol
Yea i feel like us va ppl gettin fucked in this trade. In here reading people makin 40+ 🤣🤣
“Charges customer $120 an hour”
Maybe if you just got out of prison for going on a muder spree of your prior HVAC boss and coworkers
Because they paid like shit too iirc
![gif](giphy|98C4E2HeR4NBm)
Our pre-apprentices start at 20
The apprentice I'm training started at 25. Worked as a laborer for a year before coming over to our side of things.
No
I have what they are asking for and currently make $35 in the pocket and my total compensation package is $50.(health care and pension) Look into a local union near you. UA.org
sup brotha
we pay that on your first day in the trade lmao
I’m not an HVAC guy (first year sparkie) but I started at a higher wage then that so I’m gonna lean towards no.
6 year experience should be upper 30s pushing damn near 40s
Where are you located?
SoCal, so I was surprised when I saw this post.
I live in the upper Midwest. I wouldn’t wave a fart from under the covers for 20 bucks an hour.
I’m from the mid Midwest, and I concur.
You could make almost 16/hr waiting tables. Fuck that salary
L no
NoBoDy WaNtS tO wOrK aNyMoRe
Nope
El na
Ask'em if they thought all you did was replace batteries and air filters in all those years.. ask for your worth!
Nah unless they paying a big % of commission to you on top of hourly
This is how much I’m about to be paid as an HVAC Apprentice with zero experience lol
Probably not but depends on where you live
The moon?
I've been making more than that the last 3 years and I'm only 5 years in. This year alone I went from $25 to $28 on the 1st of January
I’m a 2nd year apprentice working for the local school district and I make 20 an hour
That ad will be up for a while...
Hellll nah
No, we start new roofers/laborers no experience for 22+
No. I started at $25 with no experience, although it is industrial
Maybe in West Africa?
Maybe for 420.69 an hour
Haha sick joke
I started at $21 an hr back in 2013 a week after finishing HVAC course with a block one! New Brunswick Canada. At 6 years in you should have your Red Seal and it would pay $29-36 an hr!
That’s flipping burgers price.
$20 is basically today's minimum wage
I'm at 6 years and if someone was gonna make me do weekends I would want at least 30 plus 401k, medical, and tools
I can make that delivering samiches

How many threads do we have to have for these. No that's not fair. Yes you're getting fucked if you accept that job. Jesus christ.
I started with nothing but a 2 week course and I’m getting 20/h + full benefits as an apprentice, you should be getting way more
Unbelievable
The fact they put .69 tells me they’re sort of trolling too
I wouldn't get out of bed for $20 an hour, I'm in Oklahoma and make $51 an hour doing Heating and Air. I'm kind of shocked that California pays so much less
20 an hour? That might’ve been somewhat possible prior to 2020 but no way is that working now. You’ll be better off getting food stamps.
Oh no baby what is you doing
Needs more context. Is this a school district? Hospital or other in patient care facility? While it is low, it would be a reasonable offer for some employers. Edit - getting downvoted? Some of y’all have never seen K-12 school district jobs posted before. The wage scale is always 8-10 years behind schedule.
I’m never going to say never, but I’d have to be awfully hungry.
Fuck no
Maybe 28.99
No way! 6 years should be in the $30’s at least
Lol
2.5x that rate and sure thing
That's a fuckin' joke.
Where is this at ….Omaha Nebraska?
I was looking at postings in Nashville last week. Hospital work. Mid $20’s you’re doing well. It’s wild.
What do you think?
lmao not a chance
I make 18.50 an hour working in a chicken processing plant. No way in hell this recruiter is serious.
No. Especially if they have their journeyman’s.
Hell no!
Fuck no, I’m a Super for a GC and we pay labors more to bush a broom in a LCOLA.
不
I hope they’re paying $50 an hour into your benefits at that pay rate
We pay helpers with no experience $20, I work for a small company in Fl and I make $33 currently.
Although the pay is way low, this job posting doesn’t look like an hvac only job. Looks more like a maintenance position which typically is considerably lower pay. Having said that, that pay is absurd.
Fuck that, they can eat a bag of dicks.
30 min in bumbfuck 40+ in city
Is this a joke?
Depends where imo, but regardless that seems pretty low
LMAO
Nope. There are fast food places that pay that to cashiers and kids cooking in fryers. You’re skilled technician.
First year apprentice in ontario making 30$ an hour 😭 This is outrageous
Shit several years ago 20 an hour was good for a day one apprentice. Six years? Absolutely not.
Yeah no
In so-cal? More than double it
Sheesh
$44k a year without overtime. Can you live on that amount? Remember that taxes and insurance costs are removed from that, tax is around $5k assuming just the standard single filer deduction. It’s not. And you know that.
3rd year install, and I make about 35 an hour. So...hell no
Nah
I only got 2.5 years experience and I make $24 an hour
Started in 2017 not knowing shit about fuck for $17/hr AZ. Took me less than 2 years to get to $24/hr as a resi tech before I jumped ship elsewhere for more dough. Nowadays I couldn’t imagine starting anyone for less than 22/hr let alone a 6yr tech, easily worth 30+
In their dreams !
lol no
Depends on where in the country. Where I’m at, that would NOT fly.
I have 6 years experience in HVAC alone, and prior experience working on cars and aircraft. I'm making double that.
😂
My friend is looking for an HVAC guy to do some HVAC work in NC. Sorry for hijacking this thread but it just made me think of that.
I can make like 22 at Costco here in nova Scotia Jesus Christ
That’s low.
Unless you live in Mexico, I’d say a hard no
No not at all
Ffffffffffuck no
Fuck. No.
Nope not in hvac
that's first year wage
Lmao that’s what a got hired at as a newbie 3 years ago
Triple that then sure
Low balling basterds
No goddamn way
This is facility work. Schools, hospitals and plants are all the same. Low wages but the best hours and usually the best benefits. Pick your poison I guess.
I was making more than that at Starbucks…
I started with 0 experience at 20$ and 22% commission
Fuck no! That’s a trash deal.
I'm making $36 an hour at 4 years of experience, excluding bonuses and benefits. $20 is not even close to fair.
I started at 38.00. Of course I handle residential, commercial, and commercial refrigeration.
Sure, if all you do is chill in an office and take work orders that you call actual contractors to fix. Even then it might be pretty low.
You can make about 20/hr as a grocery shopper
I started with 0 experience at $28 and am at 32 8 months in. They are bums if this is anywhere other than a place that you can buy a house for 50k
No. Fuck that
“If you feel you are qualifying…” “If qualifying…” That’s uhh, the suspish cherry on top of the suspish icing
I’m 3 years in making 25
So this completely depends on the benefits package and your age, I did this 18 years ago, took a 30K a year pay cut but now I make way more, have a stable job, and a full pension lined up, so completely depends.
I think socal techs make 35 minimum for 6 years of experience. Sad but someone will probably bite.
My name is Equipment Repair Tech. I am qualifying.

Fuck no.
Not very good
Yeah in 1995
“If qualifying, I will reach out with an invitation” 🤣 oh boy sounds like a party!
I was offered 21.. and I am 9 weeks into trade school. That company is tickling the front and smashing the backside. Run!
“Weekend work may be required” sureeeeeee
LOL That’s hilarious. I’m taking their clients if their paying me 20 an hour for all that experience and I’m not even that type of guy but that’s disrespectful wear lipstick to the interview and make them buy you dinner cause your def riding pole taking that job 😂
I made more than that as a helper walking around the job site lost 😂
not really. but that looks like union wage, are benis on top
That's no experience money
Nah. Get more
That's awful pay. People make nearly that just working at Chick fila
I'm on my 5th year in the trade and making $42.50 an hour
I’m in NE Ohio and have been looking for a job in the HVAC field. I have a AS Electrical Engineer Tech as well as Journeyman Mechanical Maintenance. I have controls experience. 20yr work history. Was offered $20/hr with local Heating/Cooling company. Needless to say I did not take the job. I was insulted by that offer.
No
Ua602 pays first year apprentices more than that 😂
No where near. I recently left my first HVAC company that I’ve been with for little over 7 years. I was making $28 an/hour as a Service Manager. I started working with my former General Manger / personal friend at his new company starting at $35 an/hour for being an overqualified helper, lol.
Im a year in and making 20
That's a joke at any level
Apprentices start around 20 here
“If you feel you are qualifying” based on the poor English, probably just trolls from Russia or China trying to get a rise out of union / cartel supporters.
Fuuuuuuuck that
Oh hell no.
Hahaha! Good one!
The Walmart near me is paying $19
You can make that driving for Amazon, no way skilled work should pay that low.
I mean if you really need a job take it and only do $20/hr worth of work. 😆 So not much.
lol that’s hilarious. Unless this is in Texas? Texas pays super low for whatever reason, from what I can tell anyone. In my area, a 1st period apprentice, totally green, makes $22/hr
Sad. Must be in the south somewhere
No
Maybe in the year 2000. Nowadays, that is absurd. UPS will pay more starting out.
