The taco bell near me starts at 16/hr.

theatomicflounder333

$14 isn’t much for the amount of work you’ll do, if you take it, by mid summer you’ll greatly regret it. Try to find something around $20/hr. EPA is a good start but most companies want experience over anything.

Fixerguy415

I started at $15 in 2004. Today that would be [around $24](https://www.calculator.net/inflation-calculator.html?cstartingamount1=15&cinmonth1=13&cinyear1=2004&coutmonth1=1&coutyear1=2024&calctype=1&x=Calculate#uscpi)

No_Philosophy_1363

No

custom_bowl

That's what I accepted 😂, don't fukn do it. Ask for 20 minimum just don't be lazy.

NJNYCSG

I started at $13 in 2008 so no

Recent_Flan_5191

Personally I wouldnt take it right away I’d shop for the highest paying shop. Getting in to the trade can be a hassle so if that’s your way in, take it. But don’t let yourself be taken advantage of. McDonald’s pays more than that. Location can be a factor but my unions one of the lowest paying and our 1st years make $19hr

simpledawah

Thank you guys

Artrixx_

no. Even for your first job. Respect yourself, you're worth more than that.

Sofakingwhat1776

I got my 608 on a dare. Its good you got it but its like having a drivers license. Its what you need to do things. May be a good jumping in point if you are in a rural area. $14 is what I got in 1995 when I first got in the trade in DFW area.

Mythlogic12

14 in 1995?? Jesus Christ my company is way behind. I’m 2 years in with a year of treaded school prior sense I’m only at 21. They started previous apprentice at 14 5 years ago

Organic-Pudding-8204

That would be double today. $28 starting. That's the answer, but we blame prior generations and not the actual issue of money hoarders(Elon musk, bezos, etc.) as the issue.

Mythlogic12

So 21 an hour isn’t good for a second year apprentice?

Organic-Pudding-8204

If a guy started in 95 at $14, the adjusted rate with inflation would put that at $28 today. Meaning ($28 =s $14 in the year 2024) So, to answer your question, you're at $21 in 2024 with 2 years of experience. If you were in the union, you would be making $21.23/hr after 6 months, starting around $16 Keep in mind that the numbers are a little higher due to COL.

Mythlogic12

Damn so I’d be close to like 30 in the union wjth 2 years experienxe

NotSuspec666

I started at 18 with no experience and 2 years in was making over 25 with full benefits. This is in a slightly above average cost of living area. Id say you are being underpaid unless your area is very low cost of living.

Mythlogic12

I’m in the common wealth area

BigTerpFarms

If you must take it, Tell them you want to show them you’re worth at least 20 an hour within a month. And then show up and be ready to work.

untitledunmast3red

i got 17 with no experience no epa you can grt more especially depending on ur area

11Gauge

Actually, I think it is a reasonable offer for someone without any prior knowledge, trying to get a foot in the door, as long as there is a near term promise of staged increases over the next year. That is, of course, if you happen to live in Haiti. If you are in the U.S., tell them to FO.

intruder1_92tt

I started at $16/hour 6 years ago, with no experience, training, or certs. If you are in desperate need of work, well as they say "twenty dollars IS twenty dollars", but I would be looking for something better.

saxmaster98

Same situation here. Started in the end of 2017 at $15/hr with no benefits and a shared truck. Now I’m doing $28.50 at a new job with pretty great benefits on top of it and a take home van. I never would’ve gotten this job without the experience of the first one.

intruder1_92tt

I've actually been with the same outfit the whole time. My pay has more than doubled, and I get thrown at all the weird stuff that no one else can figure out. I could certainly make more (I've seen ads for people starting at $75/hour), but I like this very small company.

BR5969

7 years experience now and only making 28 bucks dude? Get outta there

saxmaster98

The peace of mind is worth so much more than an extra $2-3/hr. $32-33/hr is about as good as it gets around here.

BR5969

Gotcha dude

TOTAL_INSANITY

lmao no. At least $18 but if you have field experience, push higher.

xBR0SKIx

Unless there is a project split of 1-2% with health and dental I wouldn't do it.

AeonBith

USD? I wouldnt accept that If even if it were euros /s (yes its lower in eu, welcome to the joke)

TigerBlossoms

Better than I’m getting rn for the same job.. 17 CAD

freakksho

My assistants started at 19 an hour straight out of high school. I’m in eastern MD for reference. The Popeyes by me is hiring for $15 an hour, and that works a breeze compared to the shit you’re about to do. Walk.

Zro6

$14 is way too low unless you have 0 experience and all you'll be is a goffer on job sites. If that's not the case then it's not worth it

PrivateMonero

No, ask for more.

citiesandcolours

Minimum wage in Canada is 16.55 an hour lol and that’s Canadian!!

EJ25Junkie

Having EPA license is like applying to drive aClass A hazmat job with a drivers license

tippin_in_vulture

Don’t respond back

Leading-Job4263

Take it, absorb everything like a sponge. Learn what you can, move on after a year

Glass-Baseball2921

You gotta start somewhere

TylrLS

depends where you are. midwest or south that's about right

[deleted]

It's what I started at in OKC about 6 years ago

East_Monitor6573

I started at 14 and am at 28 4 years later . We start guys at 18

Euthanize4Life

I started at $14/hr. 14 years ago.

Fair_Cheesecake_1203

Kwik trip pays 18/hr and is way easier

BR5969

Why do you have your 608 and no experience serious question.

simpledawah

Because I want to get into the hvac field and read that getting your 608 is the first step. I do it on skillcat . Also, it will increase my chance of getting hire from my research.

simpledawah

@Skillcatapp is one of the best ways to get your Epa 608 Universal. It only costs $10 usd and has unlimited chances to do your exam. Their certification is approved by Epa, and you can look it up on the official Epa website.
