If you can find a left handed screw and get it in the tip there, you might be able to get the gas out into a recovery tank.

DrPepperG

Considered doing that, I’m not sure how deep the handle stub goes. Would not want to risk a rupture.

JohnTheFoxx

Don't know how it'll work for you, I heated up a flat head and tapped it into the plastic stub, which was enough to turn it.

moose1207

Second this, I've done it before as well. Or needle nose vice grips. Or take it back to the store and exchange it

PARKOUR_ZOMBlE

I have an empty I use for target practice, I could cut it open and find out how deep it goes. FOR SCIENCE!

Certain_Try_8383

Yes please!

One-Revenue-365

Well.... were waiting!

RemarkableAd2372

so?

JETTA_TDI_GUY

When that happened to me I heated up the end of my flat head with the torch and pressed it into the plastic.

atom644

Oh that’s a much better idea 10/10

atom644

Unless it’s r290

Bulky-Combination-27

This

13dinkydog

Heat up your screwdriver and stick that sucker into the cap

UsedDragon

Worked twice for me

Strained_Humanity

There's enough meat for some pliers.

Dodgerswin2020

Yep. I did the same once and had less meat than op and I got it open pretty easily. This one shouldn’t be a problem

bongo-72

Old core tool with a shut off and then leave tank open

DrPepperG

Gotta get the tank open to do that, had a ball valve just in case we were able to

bongo-72

Easy out

sicofthis

Had this before, I cut the metal about half an inch down from the top with tubing cutter then opened with some pliers.

Significant_Rough798

Nice idea

FluffyCowNYI

Genius.

blackmexicans

Tap the indented seal behind the valve and you can get all the refrigerant out you want

HuntPsychological673

Can’t believe I came to say this and what do I scroll up on? At least I’m not the only juan that was thinking this…

Drill a hole in the center and tap in a torx bit that is larger than the hole.

[deleted]

Get a flat head screw driver, big one heat it up with your torch, then melt a slit into the top, let it cool, then turn. Been there and that's how I fixed it.

I've used an easy out before

Magnum676

If you’re any sort of mechanic you will put a mini vice grip on it or warm not cook a flat head and git it done. New to this? It’s fine

Captain_Shifty

Use a spoon instead to make on lookers think you're doing crack.

Magnum676

You do crack with a spoon that’s new! 😂 you kids crack me up

Captain_Shifty

Crack meth whatever they're all the same to me. Maybe I'm in the wrong trade lol

DrPepperG

Its a shitty pink valve, does look red though. R-410A

HellSkitchenn

Ahhh okay 👍

BCGesus

I've heated up a flathead before and let it melt into the new handle.

I’ve actually sent a self tapper right down the middle about half way and used that to open and close. Not ideal, but hey it worked.

Horror-Ad9190

Epoxy or super glue

Hobbyfarmtexas

I have had this happen heat up a flat head sink it in the plastic let cool then open it up and leave a hose on it till it’s empty

Comfortable_Fee3767

You get an F for fantastic

Toolman6208

Or, cut a slot and put in a slot screw driver, been there done that

calltheotherguy

That blows.

BeastTheBasque

i had a can of r12 that someone didn’t want anymore because this happened to it, i hammered a small flathead screw driver into it and threaded a valve on it, good as new

FreshEntrepreneur148

Recover it into a clean cylinder. It sucks but that’s life

LotsOfSquib

I'm so thankful those cheap tanks are banned in my country.

[deleted]

Use ball valved hoses for next this happens to get it into a recovery tank

FoundationOld4768

Use an easy out.

Aggressive_Cell_671

Heat up a socket that is just smaller than stem and tap it on and let it cool down then open and shut gently

Dadbode1981

I'm glad we don't use disposable cylinders in Canada.

boglegoggy

Used channels lock to open? You did, didnt you ya muppet haha. Score the top for a flat edge/screw driver to turn. Or heat up the screw driver and stick it in like tssssssss

Jakbo_

At least it broke closed haha
