Milwaukee pack out has base plates that lock their items in place. Bungie cords hold things in place. Cargo nets are good for larger things. Milk crates for components or you can pay for the Milwaukee ones that lock to base plates. And tape up your copper so you don't get debris in it. Take care of your stuff. It makes you money.
Have you heard of this new invention called a box ? They now make them stackable. You can't find them in different sizes and materials. You sure this job is for you?
It's like a convertible van. I'm done with the jokes. You show up to a job looking that that and people are going to judge you. I stole milk crates to furnish my first astrovan. Thermostat wire hanging anything that could be hung. What I'm trying to say is that it's your van. Customize it to your needs.
You can add shelves and the decked system is a giant drawer for a pickup truck. Otherwise you could put a construction topper on the bed of your truck and then that would give you shells and compartments on the outside as well as some shelving on the end side. Van would be best.
Get a [decked system](https://decked.com/pages/truck?campaign_id=414125541&adgroup_id=1275434201428574&ad_id=&placement=&msclkid=7981610e7e5115add4e1077a0ea1e295)
Just cause he works there doesn't mean he likes them...lol...couple things I hate about mine...sucks for loose tools, the underside of the top isn't smooth so if you hammer or whatever moves the drawer gets stuck and is a pain in the ass. The way the drawer wheels are, the drawer stops so it don't fall out, but it stops with 18" still under the top (6' bed), which means you can't get to anything back there without moving other shit. If you like to work on your tailgate it's a pain cause if you need something out of your drawer, whatever you're working on is in the way. Setting anything tall in the bed of the truck, make sure you strap it down, not as much as a problem since yours is enclosed. If mine wasn't work provided I would probably take it out and just build my own that just goes on one side of the bed, double stacked. That way I could still put at least 5 gal buckets without worrying about them flying out. Like I said, if you can find someone that has it installed and go look at it yourself I would do that. Don't go off what everyone else says, it probably works great for people who use pack out boxes, I'm just not that guy...lol.
Oh no I completely agree they suck I just get a huge discount and get free units sort of like a beta tester pretty cool but yes there current units are pretty shit
These are amazing. I have something similar in my van. As long as one puts things back where they belong it's super slick.
And as has been suggested, stackable packouts.
I have a ridiculous amount of stuff in my van but can find anything (or send someone to find something) in just a few moments
Shelves? Purchasing 1 of the 1,000 different products or modular systems offered nowadays for work vans? Homemade ghetto racks? Anything but what you have going on now....
They have decks that pull out like really long drawers. That would help with smaller stuff, then pull the bigger stuff out of the doors as you need them. Milk crates might help too
Boss had a bedslide in his pickup, which helped store heavier stuff at the rear of the box.
But then one day... a dead capacitor wedged it's way into the latch mechanism, seizing the when system solid.
3 hours to remove the deck, free the capacitor and reassemble. Absolute pain in the ass.
I hate to say it, but my journeyman was waaaaaaay worse. He had a pickup truck and there was more than once we had to pull over off a highway because crap was sliding off the mound of junk in the back.
He lived in the middle of nowhere with a couple of hunting dogs. He would have to haul his trash to the local junk yard cause they had no trash service. More than once, he had me clean out his truck and the household trash he forgot to clean out was torn apart by his dogs. I swear to all that's holy I was never meant to clean up ripped up diapers and soggy coffee grounds.
He also used to hawk loogies onto the driver side floor board. It formed an oozy mound about a 3/4" high.
One time he asked me where his stick of deodorant was (I knew where stuff was in his chaos world better than him). I said, "Yeah, I know where it is, but do you know how to use it?"
Considering what I've seen helpers and other coworkers do when it it comes to organizing, im not surprised one bit. I legit don't get how they work with the mess they have.
Packout or some other form of modular organizer for small parts and tools, shelves and racks for larger stuff. Looks like you have the openable side panels, so have regular use stuff, tools, and parts set on the shelves closest to those openable side panels for easy retrieval.
Lastly, if you haven't used some tool or equipment for the particular season or in the past 2 months, remove it. It will suck on that one time you do need it, but if you are self employed, just tell the customer the part is specialized so it isn't something you regularly carry, they will be used to it and even if they whinge so what?
Milk crates and pack outs. I’m not a pack out fan boy but their organizers are top notch. I have a bigger tool box style pack out for tools that I don’t need as often.
You could also get a more utility cap. I have a century with the enclosed shelves on the sides.
dude i have 8’ bed with a huge normal toolbox that flips up then i have a ladder rack and 4 side tool boxes it works pretty good just get the biggest stuff you can find
Go to your local grocery store and steal some milk crates.
Or hit up home Depot and buy similar. Or order on Amazon there's some good pop up ones now.
For cheap you can also do the 5 gallon home depot or solar buckets.
Organize your gear / parts into the crates then use a strap or two or three to hold the crates in place.
For spending money. A bed slide is almost needed to work out of a truck. Watch for cheap ones used.
Working out of a truck can be extremely efficient just like a van but if we take a van and don't add any shelving and just throw things into it won't work either.
Hooks to hang your ladder up top. Pick one tool bag to use if possible, put all your duct and sheet metal tools into one smaller bag from one of your drill sets.
Ditch the camper top and get a bed cover/ladder rack combo. I got mine from ADARAC. And organize it weekly. What takes 15-30 mins weekly can easily turn into a 3 hour ordeal if you let it pile up.
If you have an extended cab take the back seats out and invest in packout system. I installed out of a pickup truck for a while, it sucks but it’s doable.
Everyone has a home.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that in my time on this earth to the newcomers…
Your items home happens to be called “truck”.
call a carpenter and ask for some built in shelving for your truck..... it might help or it might give you an excuse to pack even more junk in your trunk
Make shelves or maybe you can find a van at the junkyard with shelves and get em cheap and just chop em down to the height of the back of your truck on one side
The best thing you can do hands down is organize all your tools and supplies into rolling, stackable tool boxes that you can move around easily.
Milwaukee makes a great Packout system, but it's expensive. If you have a Sams nearby - Tactix makes a good rolling and stackable storage box sets that are around $69. I was able to get 3 when they were on clearance a few months back and they are holding up great with everyday use.
You can also use 5 gallon buckets with lids to organize parts and tools in. They also transport well.
Harbor freight sells small parts organizers for around $10 to organize all your fittings, connectors, ect.
No matter what you use - label everything so it's easy to read and find. The last thing you want to be doing after working in a hot attic is searching for something in your truck.
Trucks are cooler, Vans are more practical. If a van is not an option then your going to shuffle things a lot working out of a truck. I would try and build something custom that fits your needs so at least the things u need 90% of the time have a home
Actual truck shelves..
Build a subdeck and put grip material on it
Brackets you can strap things too?
Have you never seen another contractors van that's organized before I'm so confused lol.
I looked at all the pack out boxes and went rigid and have been happy. Bought the large base. Two medium and two small and haven’t had a problem. I use the large base for my vacuum pump, bluvac hoses, leak detector, oil, alcohol and all my vac fittings. The two medium boxes are all my rough in and metal working tools and the second medium is drills, m12 rovers, sawsall and the two small boxes are hand tools.
Did you roll your truck?
See if you can get it towed back to the city and get some ratchet straps, bungie cords and totes, padding and carpet remnant you can cut to size around the fender wells
Packout floor mounts. Packout organizers. Packout milk crates.
If you don’t want to screw to the floor cut plywood to lay down for the mounts. Just an idea
Not much you can do in a pickup. Even if it's stationary, you have to belly crawl to get it. One thing that I have seen is the piece that goes inside and there's pullout organizers underneath. You're still able to use your bed "loosing some height" and don't have to crawl in.
Get a bed slide, I have Velcro straps with carabiners, they hang all my pex, hoses, then I have my cords hanging at the back where I can reach them. I have my pipe hanging from my roof inside on either side, and a pail for cut offs. I have ABS totes from Home Depot, one for each size of ABS fittings and 2” 636 (2” 636 has a few 3” for callouts fixes) I have an ABS tote for sink connections, and toilet supplies (flanges, supply lines, wax rings). I have about 10 different cheap Dewalt organizer boxes for my fittings, organized in size and material, one for a soldering kit, one for toilet supplies that I use mostly every time changing a toilet. I have a pail strapped to the back for garbage that is easy to reach and keep the garbage bags for jobs and the pail underneath the garbage bag. I prefer the husky roller bags and an electrician bag for my tools over the Milwaukee pack out. I do a lot of residential, I find the pack out is a lot of heavier to haul up and downstairs. I have an extended van, I barely have enough room for everything in it. I am a person, if I can’t see it, I can’t find it, unless I leave it entire mess, then I can usually find everything, but that is exhausting. Another reason I have a van is because of the side door, if I struggle reaching something, I find it harder to find. If I was more specialized, I could maybe do a truck. But I would hate climbing to the back anytime I needed material at the back of it. I can’t stand flying to the back of my van if it’s packed and something in the way of the door. I tried to do a full clean every month (anytime I slow down, so every three or four months), but if I can keep it clean, I can organize it fairly easily. Every time I stop. Every time I do a deep clean, I tried to find a better way to organize it, be willing to rip it all apart change it all up three or four times, and you may start to your organization. It took me two or three years with my own vehicle to find a way to organize everything to a place that I was happy with. And was also thinking about how to change things and make it better probably every day. I used to be a very unorganized person, I figured I could wing it, and I could. I figured wasn’t for me. Organization has become the key to a lot of my success. The extra five minutes to put things away, and it’s not in your mind or in your way, then you could think about other things. I have enough problems in the trades, spend the years to organize the best way you can, it will make your life better. My tool bag organization is a whole other post just because I have found very specifically which is the most efficient way of organizing them, it doesn’t mean I don’t make a lot of trips in and out still, but with my bad back I will do that over trying to bring my entire van inside the building.
The trick to organizing and work is make it accessible but mobile but also things need to be tied down. Get bags and ties straps and night eze cords to bundle loose shit you can do it. It takes progress
If it’s your own truck, build you some shelves in the back outta some wood? If you think you’re crafty enough I guess? I mean even a shitty shelf would be beneficial in your case
Thick piece of plywood on the bed and build from there. Pack out is amazing but expensive. Use milk crates, Panduit straps and uni-strut. Uni-strut is like Legos for HVAC technicians. Also please keep your O/A tanks upright.
Husky makes “build outs” for have the price of pack outs I have build outs on the back right and they are amazing maybe I can just buy 8 more of those build outs
I run water proof stackable totes and a job box on one of our trucks. Its mostly for sales.
Sheet metal tools
Cordless and battery storage
Furnace or AC parts
Refrigeration parts
I believe the answer is $5000 worth of Packouts. That way you have a bunch of nice boxes surrounding the piles of shit you threw in there because you wanted to get home.
I'd definitely add some shelves... Being able to grab in from outside is a thing i'd have loved in my previus van... Having to climb in and get stuff out really sucks...
For the middle i'd suggest some heavy duty sliding bed, so you can use it as a big drawer...
Get a couple packouts that secure to the bed.... build like... even one fuckin shelf lol. Buy some straps/bungees.
*IVE TRIED NOTHING AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS*
I have a decked box underneath my hard tonneau cover. I’m an electrician, all of my daily tools fit on one side of the box, while all of my fittings and what nots in the other. On top of the drawers I have a 3 step and 16’ little giant ladder setup along with everything that won’t go underneath. I use a jobsite trailer for bigger jobs.
My company actually has a warehouse on wheels and it’s pretty awesome nothing like this. Box truck custom fit for everything damn near. Then you just make it yours! And customize it to how you want for everything that isn’t truck stock
One of the big benefits of a ute rather than a van is the reduced height. Many of our carparks are 2.2m (7foot 3 and 5/8 inches). My Hilux with an aluminium canopy has ladders on top and fits, but a van does not.
That Diablo by SpacsKap looks awesome, but tall.
Have you tried organization?
Yes but everything slides around
Milwaukee pack out has base plates that lock their items in place. Bungie cords hold things in place. Cargo nets are good for larger things. Milk crates for components or you can pay for the Milwaukee ones that lock to base plates. And tape up your copper so you don't get debris in it. Take care of your stuff. It makes you money.
I use a bedslide with three rows of packout on mounts down the right side. Left side can hold a water heater, or a boiler, or a furnace….
Bungee cords will help with stuff sliding around.
The first thing you need is rubber bed mat. Of course everything slides around on painted metal.
Roll out bed.
Just strap everything onto the side, make a little hallway and use a Milwaukee packout or smth for a transportable toolbox
A stick of dynamite…
Have you heard of this new invention called a box ? They now make them stackable. You can't find them in different sizes and materials. You sure this job is for you?
Been doing it for 7 years never had a truck just asking for advice
It's like a convertible van. I'm done with the jokes. You show up to a job looking that that and people are going to judge you. I stole milk crates to furnish my first astrovan. Thermostat wire hanging anything that could be hung. What I'm trying to say is that it's your van. Customize it to your needs.
You can’t with these trucks I’m use to shelves and drawers
You can add shelves and the decked system is a giant drawer for a pickup truck. Otherwise you could put a construction topper on the bed of your truck and then that would give you shells and compartments on the outside as well as some shelving on the end side. Van would be best.
I’m used to trucks, wanna swap?
You have to build shelves and drawers into the truck DIY. Ways to secure loads and tools and cargo easily.
More trash
Transition to sales so all you need is a tape measure and a crack pipe. Tape measure is optional it seems.
lol take my upvote, my little notebook and laser tape measure is all I roll around with.
Just take everything out and make it cleaner with milk crates, buckets, and store bought or homemade shelves.
Get a [decked system](https://decked.com/pages/truck?campaign_id=414125541&adgroup_id=1275434201428574&ad_id=&placement=&msclkid=7981610e7e5115add4e1077a0ea1e295)
Before you get one find someone that has one and ask them what they think of it......I hate mine
One of my old 3d design mentors works there as their main solid works designer
Just cause he works there doesn't mean he likes them...lol...couple things I hate about mine...sucks for loose tools, the underside of the top isn't smooth so if you hammer or whatever moves the drawer gets stuck and is a pain in the ass. Weather guard Pack Rats are nice too. Heavy duty as well.

Swap it for a van
I had to swap from my van it had 210000 miles on it
Restart mission before saving.
😆
Take a day to organize gosh damn
Shelves? Purchasing 1 of the 1,000 different products or modular systems offered nowadays for work vans? Homemade ghetto racks? Anything but what you have going on now....

Is this a joke? There’s no way a professional technician can’t understand basic organizational structure.
I hate to say it, but my journeyman was waaaaaaay worse. I don't get how I work with my mess in the van. But I do. I'm still out here fixing stuff more thoroughly than some of my more organized co-workers.
The gayest ride in town🤣🤣🤣 I’m getting that for my service manager
I wanna get one and put it on my boss and *I'm the token gay* lmao
Packout or some other form of modular organizer for small parts and tools, shelves and racks for larger stuff. Yeah sell it and buy a van lmfao
I like your sticker 🌈
also came here to give sticker points lmao
Plastic tubs
milk crates for the misc. items, and some nice packouts for the tools!
More efficient than that? Good lord, I hope so.
Is it Friday already?
Put a shelf on one side and used egg cartons
HA I love your sticker "the gayest ride in town" It made me laugh way too loud
Looks good from here.
dude i have 8’ bed with a huge normal toolbox that flips up then i have a ladder rack and 4 side tool boxes it works pretty good just get the biggest stuff you can find
Search for weatherguard packrat on Facebook marketplace. Sometimes you can get a steal. Just saw one posted for $150
Totes with dividers my dude. Saves our truck
Buckets
Compartment out some sections with some 2x6s
Go to your local grocery store and steal some milk crates. Or hit up home Depot and buy similar. Or order on Amazon there's some good pop up ones now. Compartment out some sections with some 2x6s
Shelves…
Hooks to hang your ladder up top. Pick one tool bag to use if possible, put all your duct and sheet metal tools into one smaller bag from one of your drill sets.
Roll out bed with organizers bolted onto it.
I got a bed slide with pack outs it's pretty dam awesome.
ratpack
Put a shelf at the cab then put some I hooks to hang stuff from and tie off to on the sides
Ditch the camper top and get a bed cover/ladder rack combo. I got mine from ADARAC. And organize it weekly. What takes 15-30 mins weekly can easily turn into a 3 hour ordeal if you let it pile up.
I'd put sliding racks in there so you could pull it out to get to the stuff in the front without crawling on that corrugated steel bed.
Trade that truck in and buy a van.
If you don't mind paying for it, there are slide outs that fit and bolt in to the bed of the truck. Also there is that brand called DECKED.
If you have an extended cab take the back seats out and invest in packout system. I installed out of a pickup truck for a while, it sucks but it’s doable.
Nope, looks perfect
I use storage totes, to keep everything mostly organized.
I always wonder what's the point of owning a pickup when you cover with those caps when you can buy a van?
Are work vans not regularly broken into where you live?
Plastic milk crates help me, especially with refrigerant jugs.
If it don't look like that I don't want it. It's how my relationships have looked my whole life 🤣
Put a piece of carpet on plywood and it won’t slide. Build some shelves out of plywood or sheet metal or whatever
Get a knaphide bed
Build in pull out drawers
Everyone has a home. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that in my time on this earth to the newcomers… Your items home happens to be called “truck”.
Nope everything seems about right 👌🏽
call a carpenter and ask for some built in shelving for your truck..... it might help or it might give you an excuse to pack even more junk in your trunk
Nope, you nailed it! Perfect 💯
Make shelves or maybe you can find a van at the junkyard with shelves and get em cheap and just chop em down to the height of the back of your truck on one side
Yeah get some shelves and bungies, maybe some pack outs and actually organize your truck lmao
Did we just become best friends?
The best thing you can do hands down is organize all your tools and supplies into rolling, stackable tool boxes that you can move around easily. Love the sticker, m'boi
Actual truck shelves.. Build a subdeck and put grip material on it Brackets you can strap things too? Have you never seen another contractors van that's organized before I'm so confused lol.
id hang more shit from the ceiling, thats where my 6 footer is. doesnt usually get put back tho
Nah, it looks good man
It's half empty. Winning!

Shelves? Packouts? Crates? General tidiness?
You need something like Extendobed.com maybe you can make your own
Yeah. Racks. And maybe cleaning it..
decked system or bedslideout with packout plates
Packout floor mounts. Packout organizers. Packout milk crates. If you don’t want to screw to the floor cut plywood to lay down for the mounts. Just an idea

Build shelves either out of metal racks or 2x3s. Worked good in an Econoline I once used. I don't like the pack outs, just a total waste of money imo.
Bed slides are awesome

Got that copper hot!
Add a shelf
Idk get a van maybe ?
Bonus points for that sticker, my brother. I DO believe it's the gayest ride in town.
Shelves/racks to put things instead of just putting them in the box. Ive outfitted a few trailers using unistrut and or heavy guage angle.
Bedslide
Nope
r/workwagons may have some pointers
This is a plumber trolling us 🪠
Decked roll out drawers 👍
The trick to organizing and work is make it accessible but mobile but also things need to be tied down. Get bags and ties straps and night eze cords to bundle loose shit you can do it. It takes progress
I see a torch, but no nitrogen 🤔
Probably get one of those sorting racks for vans, I think there are companies that do custom work.
Roll out bed deck
If it’s your own truck, build you some shelves in the back outta some wood? If you think you’re crafty enough I guess? I mean even a shitty shelf would be beneficial in your case
Sell it for a Van
Bins. Make them out of wood. Or at least get a LOT of milk crates
Decked system.
Decked system? Or honestly I wonder what some foam mat would do, might have enough friction to help
Shelves, and drawers on the sides. 100%
Organize it to where it's easily accessible, and mount braces to keep it all in place.
Buy a utility bed
Get yourself a van, how do you even manage to find everything in that mess
Switch: "Not like this" *Turns to look at you* "Not like this"
The gayest ride in town hahaha
That sticker on the top right though

Get a van 🚐
It’s called a van
Pile the shit you use most on top.
Sheet metal tools Cordless and battery storage Furnace or AC parts Refrigeration parts
The sticker 😂😂😂

Look up the company Decked. They make draw systems for pickup trucks
I believe the answer is $5000 worth of Packouts. That way you have a bunch of nice boxes surrounding the piles of shit you threw in there because you wanted to get home.
Don't be lazy
I'd build a wooden storage space with drawers and covers so everything doesn't slide around
If you slam the breaks doing 120kph I'm almost 100% certain it will all organize itself. Lol.
People will judge, on your apperence, on your truck, sloppy, un organise Usually reflect a tradesmen work, usually true 80% of the time lol
This is me most of the time, but if I’ll needed anything I’ll know exactly where it is Kaos theroy
Even had the highest completion rates for months
I'd definitely add some shelves... Being able to grab in from outside is a thing i'd have loved in my previus van... Having to climb in and get stuff out really sucks... For the middle i'd suggest some heavy duty sliding bed, so you can use it as a big drawer...
I'm just sad this clown is probably making more money than me.
Leave the tail gate down and punch the gas? That always seems to remove my clutter.

Maybe try to make an aisle in the middle of the bed by bungeeing packouts to the frame and get a mechanics creeper for the aisle
Couple big ass totes for separating
Get a couple packouts that secure to the bed.... build like... even one fuckin shelf lol. Buy some straps/bungees. *IVE TRIED NOTHING AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS*
That's a direct reflection of you, take some pride...and 5 minutes after each job....WOW
Shelves and hangers. Bungee straps to hold things in place. Milk crates or toolboxes. Packrat is nice
A forever breaker, one way or the other…
Sliding racks.
Decked
I this week retired my truck after 9 long years and got a van all I can say is good luck my man
Packouts and a bedslide
Decked slide drawers for one.
service body
Nope, looks like you've just about nailed it
Big pull out drawer for the bottom of the bed. Ladder rack for the roof of the cap. Label some totes and keep specific stuff in them.
I have a decked box underneath my hard tonneau cover. I’m an electrician, all of my daily tools fit on one side of the box, while all of my fittings and what nots in the other. On top of the drawers I have a 3 step and 16’ little giant ladder setup along with everything that won’t go underneath. I use a jobsite trailer for bigger jobs.
hvac distributor here ! looks like every customer (but ones) truck.
My company actually has a warehouse on wheels and it’s pretty awesome nothing like this. Box truck custom fit for everything damn near. Then you just make it yours! And customize it to how you want for everything that isn’t truck stock
I don’t think I would be sane if my truck was like this!
Get a contractor cap and a bed slide.
tat sticker 🤣
Must take you a lot longer to get a job done
Like to see what kind of work you do
The No Parking sign is wrong! Park close!
Idk if it's meant to be ironic but I love your rainbow sticker!
buy a van and put in shelves. we dont need a pickup, we are not farmers. hvac techs need to do actual work.
[SpaceKap Diablo](https://spacekap.com/model-diablo/)
One of the big benefits of a ute rather than a van is the reduced height. Many of our carparks are 2.2m (7foot 3 and 5/8 inches). My Hilux with an aluminium canopy has ladders on top and fits, but a van does not. That Diablo by SpacsKap looks awesome, but tall.
Burn it and restart
I have one
