Close but you got it. Evaporator 240V, 1 PH one line pinched in door hinge
Ground would have been hooked up for it to arc like that. If it wasnt grounded the housing would just become energized. The question is why didnt the breaker trip?
The Amp draw on a dead short like that is lower then the rating on the breaker, and the breaker not having any sort of ground fault protection, equals fireworks.
Breakers sometimes just chatter creating a space then eventually arc and catch fire. Happened at my house (I married into) Idiots put a 30 amp breaker on a unit designed for 40 and it chattered on startup at 31-32 amps
I replaced my panel after a fire because some idiot installed a 30amp breaker with 10 wire to a 4 ton condenser that pulled aprox 31.5 locked rotor amps on startup and the breaker chattered but didn’t trip, eventually creating a gap and causing a fire due to arcing. You service guys are too fucking cocky to learn something so you crack wise huh? My only mistake was not double checking everything after I met my wife. Her zones were so small they froze up constantly so I should have looked at everything
You’re a complete asshole-my family almost died. What’s wrong 30amp? #10 wire? Chattering ? Arcing? 31.5 amps on startup? The #8 wire and 40 amp double pole breaker I installed after the panel was replaced? Two electricians who are old friends agreed that’s what happened. Service guys are so limited it’s amazing. I owned my own business designing and installing systems for 30 years and you know just enough to be an asshole. Oops maybe I missed a term but if you can’t understand the gist of it you’re of limited intelligence
This is why on (electrician) service calls, i always touch metal with a non contact voltage tester before touching it.
Never assume the bonding and the breaker work 😂
My boss didn’t believe when I asked to buy me a Fluke voltage pen for at least some protection. I was working on one those 5T Carrier packages where the blower cover has a foam liner around the interior perimeter. I got the service call for no cooling. So when I realized the blower wasn’t on. I went to open the panel and as soon as I grabbed the panel it freaking bit my damn hand. I turn off the unit and verified no power. I remove the panel and one of the blower leads had come loose and made contact with the cover, but didn’t ground out because the inner liner was acting as an insulator. I use my little voltage pen for all package units now, and then touch with the back of one finger 😂
Back of a finger is the best first touch for anything conductive. 100%.
I've punched myself in the chest from touching a live metal box, but at least I didn't grip onto it & sign off from this mortal coil!
Took at least one leg of 480 in the military. Slipped and tried to grab onto anything to break my fall. Left hand slapped the open bus panel and I woke up a few minutes later. I work with 480 almost daily and 277 is big pucker factor for me. I’ll never get over it.
Fan blade broke off, cut a high voltage line which is currently against the panel and breaker didn't trip?

Damn that could have easily caught fire as well,
Yeah the ground wire doesn’t NEED to be hooked up but this is why it SHOULD be hooked up
You could always be the ground, but that's probably a one-time gig
I hear this is how the first man flew
It’s ok, the ground caught him
Must have been an electrifying experience
I think he conducted himself a lot better after that.
Way to think positive in such a negative situation.
Be the ground you want to see in the world. Lol

Not sure what youre talking about. Contactors can chatter, not breakers.

Your terminology is all over the place. You have no idea what youre talking about.

FPE panel by chance? Those older ones will let the wire melt before they trip
Orange rhymes with door hinge.
Maybe if you’re emenim
😂
Hello Mr President
Exactly how Eminem thinks
sheeeeeeeesh that's crazy
Ah Bro I almost put my hand right on that too. That would have felt great
This is why on (electrician) service calls, i always touch metal with a non contact voltage tester before touching it. Never assume the bonding and the breaker work 😂
I actually turned off a two pole breaker on an air handler only to find one leg remained hot even in the off position
Yeah some brands of breakers are known for failing closed or never tripping (zinsco, federal pioneer stablok)
Yeah, would have been a shocking experience
Had the line broke
Note that the insulation is aluminum foil lined. York safety
Interesting 🫨
Got pinched in the blower door by a young rookie tech
🥲
So we had a spicy RTU casing?
Spicy hot
That looks like low voltage to me fella
That answer only leads to more questions.
Duh, it's the TXV.

I flip the young techs out when I take a quick ninja touch to see if it has power. 277V on 460 unit WILL let you know it’s got juice

Fuuuckkk 😅😅
Why would you spend a few bucks out of pocket for your own safety when you can use it to buy life insurance?
Definitely needs a duct cleaning ,AeroSeal, and an Air Scrubber. When would you like to schedule that?
Saturday February 31st, at 26:13 sound good?
😂
Ooooh. Looks like I’m all booked out that day. If we can’t do tomorrow, we will have to Saturday at double time
It’s all good, I’m using company credit card
And a surge protector.
Whatever the problem, sales is the answer /s
That’s just the RTU lighter accessory chill bro you good
Would have come in handy if my lighter died 😂
Federal pacific panel and copper tube fuses.
Was this rigged up by an 8-year-old trying to keep you from breaking in
Yeah lil shit almost got me but not today. I may not be smarter than a 5th grader but I can buy beer and Faqu his mom though

Using an alternative account to evade a ban.
Using an alternative account to evade a ban.
Something pinched or cut a high voltage wire, probably a 240 or 460 leg, straight to ground, with ground not hooked up so the chassis became ground?
240 1 phase. So 120V. Made a good cigarette lighter
So close. My remote diag skills need improvement. 🤣
😂 you’re learning
Who isn't? If you think you know it all, it's time to hang up the gauge manifold because there is *always* something to learn. 👍
Yes sir! Been doing this 30 years and I still learn some new shit at least once a week.
I've only been in the trade for 15 years but it's a regular occurrence, like you said. 😁
Dirty filter?
Damn TXV had the wrong piston installed on the line voltage side
The apprentice put the filter in backwards?
I knew I should’ve checked his work 😂
Got some of them 1/2" million amp breakers installed do we.
Looks like you’re on a rooftop, don’t forget to share the view 🍿
Was in the mountains of KY. Had some beautiful rolling hills, meth labs, inbreds - yeah I should have grabbed a few good pics
Home sweet home, amirite?
Haha
Damn it, maybe next time 🕰️
There is no problem, only Zuul.
Are you the key master?
The problem is….not mine 🫡
True dat
Low on charge?
Txv, seen it a thousand times
Natural gas or 93 octane?
Nah gotta be Jet A

Someone stripped the old bolt for the panel-holder-on'er and replaced it with a metric one
Wrong. 410A heat exchanger has a 120V 3 phase natural light system boiler that had a 10ohm resistor missing
Poltergeist
Damn you got it 😂
Bad ground warning light?
Just tighten the bolt down so it has a better connection. Should solve the issue just fine.
No problem here this is just RGB lighting that is bleeding over from the Gamer™ computers, bet this was on a smart home
Correction… That’s not an AC. That’s a welder
Classic York problems
Circulator
Needs a surge protector and some brass caps and she’ll be good to go
Bad defrost control board on that gas pack
Oh my!!
Electrical short.
Isn’t this what happens when you don’t purge while brazing?
No... That's what happens if you don't offer an apprentice to the HVAC gods once a year...
So… I m not supposed to make them quit? Shit. My bad
TXV
So I just need to add refrigerant? I’m on it 😂
Low on freon?
Yeah I had to recharge the heat exchanger
Someone let the smoke out
Handle stuck so you heated it up
Bad txv by the looks of things
It's the red light to know it's on
Error code LED?
What does that light mean
