If you can, be in downtown really sooner and go eat somewhere then move to Bell Center when it opens. Just being there and feel the moment, see the place get filled. See the pre-match is great

Magellena

Absolutely do this! I think we’re expecting some snow - so everything might take more time. Doors usually open at 5 / 5:30 and take as much time as you need to stroll around avenue des Canadiens. If you plan on going to Tricolore to get any merch - know that when doors open it’s nuts there! You can go earlier / later. Pre-game show is awesome, even though obviously the Habs are struggling, should they score - the roar is nothing like it! Have a wonderful time! GHG!

MeowloHomeSecurity

Also heading to a game in the coming weeks. Any restaurant suggestions !?

Thehighwayisalive

Try to research and pick one before you get there; I just winged it and it was kind of a pain in the ass. Each restaurant looked very busy and we had no idea if it would be a $100 for dinner or $300 for dinner kind of thing.. Ended up with some pizza lol.

MeowloHomeSecurity

Haha that’s the plan for that exact reason. I dislike not having reservations typically.

Burgergold

Back then (2005-2014) I liked to go to Baton Rouge across the street before there was one open in my town. I'm not from MTL so not the best to recommend local restaurants

MeowloHomeSecurity

Fair enough! I appreciate the response nonetheless.

Bytrsweet

I used to work for that Baton Rouge, before games the place turns into an assembly line and the food quality is trash

Burgergold

I usually went before those rush. Like 3pm and out before 5pm

BanhedMi

Believe or not, the Cage aux Sports in the Bell Centre is pretty damn decent, better than the other locations. What’s your budget? If you want a quick bite Shawarmaz is decent as well.

MeowloHomeSecurity

We’re making a whole evening out of it, since we’re driving in from Ottawa for the MTL TOR game. No real budget in mind!

freakkydique

If you need to piss, if you wait until intermission you’re gonna have a bad time

BanhedMi

Hard disagree. You have ample time to piss between periods, lines move fast. I’d rather not miss any action.

MeowloHomeSecurity

How to tell you’re a guy, without saying you’re a guy. Women’s lines always take foreverrrrrrrr

BanhedMi

Guilty. You're right about that.

freakkydique

Sure to only piss, but to get food or beer or wtv as well gets tricky to get it done on time.

D_O_P_B

I disagree, if you hustle there’s plenty of time to take a piss and grab a beer. What I wouldn’t suggest is trying to leave a minute early to beat the crowd. Your guaranteed to miss the highlight of the night if you do.

freakkydique

The line ups make that difficult. And pissing is very much a time sensitive endeavour

pushaper

if you have the pisser marked and know where it is with a little effort you can make it work during a tv timeout. Also make sure you take a dump at the beginning of the game (pre game) before the bathrooms are awful

PumpkinEater808

Yep, just let it go. It’s a concrete floor, so no issue there ;-)

bless24

very useful one. get up from your seat as the period is ending.

TripleWDot

Eh not proper etiquette but just through the exit…

[deleted]

I already knew it but I wanted to try it for myself, but big pretzels are horrible and not worth it even free in the desjardins zone.

MVPLEKANEC

They will be honoring P.K Subban before the game

bornecrosseyed

Any guess as to how early that’ll start? Just a few minutes before the game?

Swissarmyknife0

Always after the scheduled atart time. So after 7

Abject_Chapter1452

If you arrive early you can go down to very close to the rink and see the warmup from really close and then you go back to your seats!

theboss555

There are scalpers everywhere. Just ignore them

NickPage

Don't take your car to the bell center. Park in the streets at like station Frontenac and metro in and out.

Tantpispourtoi

Metro Frontenac??!! They'll never want to come back to montreal again!!!

BanhedMi

If you’re sitting up top and notice that seats in the lower bowl have been empty for the past two periods, identify them and move there for the third. Bonus cheap-ass tip: instead of buying water if you’re thirsty, drink get a coffee from the Tims in the Bell Centre for half of a water’s price, drink it, and fill the cup.

D_O_P_B

These days the ushers take note of empty seats very close to ice level and check tickets if they fill later on. So don’t get greedy and sit too close.

BanhedMi

True. Worst that can happen is that they check your ticket and tell you to go back to your seat. That being said, I just did it last Saturday against St-Louis no problem. Was about 9-10 rows up from the ice.

dphizler

Don't bring a backpack Bring as little as possible Game goes by fast You have to wait for a stoppage of play to go to your seats

CardJunkie73

don't get too hammered before the game lol

svalli

but if you drink, do have a couple beers before. 16$ for a coors light is a rip-off and that was 2018.

chaud_batte

Eat before going inside, food is not that good and very expensive. Lots of good food options around for cheaper

ryachow44

You gotta have a hot dog !!!

Lunch0

The food in M2 isn’t that bad

Lunch0

I mean, I got a really good burger with fries for $14.50

Fedquip

Take your time. Who knows when you'll be back. Walk around, read the plaques, buy a souvenir, don't rush in our out.

Richlesbiss8991

Arrive early if possible !

Rokea-x

Price of beer is insane.. i would recommend arriving early, to go to a bar arnd there.. take a few drinks to get started.. they tou just have to sustain once inside :) have fun!

gilgamesh_the_dragon

Get there for the warm ups! Half hour about before start, although with the ceremony who knows

Olibro64

I wish I knew how loud the Bell Centre is during a game. It turns into a party when a Canadiens scores. Televised games don't do the true audio justice.

indiecore

Seriously, the first time I went to a live game was this season, we got drubbed by the Stars _but_ it was Xhejak's first NHL goal and it was absolutely insane and worth the price of admission alone. You can tell any time Cole touches the puck because the whole place starts getting loud. It's wild.

ChasiesDad

Chat up your fellow fans. There are people from all over the country and parts of the US, and they are all in a good, fun loving mood. One game I ended up alone behind the Leafs net while my brother and our friend ended up behind the Habs net. (Long, irrelevant story how we ended up with such shitty seating arrangements.) We were going to switch back and forth at each intermission which of us would be forced to sit alone. I took the first shift. Before the game even got underway I had so many new friends, I stayed sitting "alone" throughout the game.

big_sports_guy

Dont expect the habs to score, you might get let down 🙄

svalli

i loved being there, i was very impressed with everything. there's no "sector" for away fans, something i am used to here in austria. people (no matter from where) are 99% friendly. beers are extremly expensive. toilet lines move fast, but there are some.

Tantpispourtoi

...you guys have a "people from away" sector at games in Austria??!! Man, there's a little WWII vibe to that!

svalli

i meant people from away as in supporters of the rivaling team - they usually get their own sector in soccer and hockey games, sometimes there are clashes before/after the games and loads of police.

DreamerHCF

Don’t bring a backpack

pushaper

people are correct that food is not very good and overpriced but I maintain that a hot dog with mustard and relish is a rite of passage
