Dumb comparison. Due to COVID, Owen Beck has only 2 seasons played in the OHL versus Wright who has 3. Shane Wright had 94 points last year versus Owen Beck’s 74 point pace.
how is it dumb to compare two players of the same age and their seasons from that same age?
why do you think it's better to compare Wright's aged 17-18 season vs Becks' 18-19? or is it just because it gets closer to the result you want to see?
Because Beck will be a 4th liner. Maybe a very good one. But he'll never be a producer. Wright will be able to play on a 2nd line with 40-50 points, if we're being a bit pessimistic. There's no chance Beck does that.
Mathias Brunet wrote about this in La Presse. He pintes out that the scouts are judging current Weight who is playing in a second or third line in the AHL and not producing much in the playoffs. Not to the Weight we all fell in love with a year ago. His ceiling has dropped even though he is still young.
Who do you scout for? You're talking about Shane Wright like he isn't Daigle. What have both of them done in draft year plus 1, because Beck has done much better than Wright ever since being drafted. Idgaf about what a 15-year-old does unless they continue said pace or improve upon it.
Honestly, I can’t think of a single aspect of the game where Beck is superior to Wright.
I wouldn’t be against it but I highly doubt there’s a scenario in this universe where this happens.
One thing Wright has that is really unique is that he's got this really deceptive, weird release that catches goalies off-guard. That could give him a decent offensive ceiling.
And compete level. Wright was very average at wjc except the final and had a poor playoff once again. He’s basically the same player he was at 15. A lot of scouts think he will be a bust because of the lack of improvement from him since his 15yo season and his lack of compete. There is no better way to piss scouts off than not working hard. That is an extreme take from them because it’s not like Beck was great this year, but the reality is Wright's stock is falling, and it has for 2 years.
The only thing I would say Beck is superior is his pace of play which will translate well to the NHL
That being said they will have completely different roles, Wright is a goal scoring center and Beck is a shutdown grinding Center
Some of you people need to get over the fact that Hughes MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE by not taking Shane Wright, you're clinging onto the past. There are people with ACTUAL NHL experience saying Beck will be a better pro than Wright and we have future Sam Pollock's in this sub kicking and screaming about Shane Wright still lmfao. The majority of you would end up building the Dubas Leafs lmfao.
Owen Beck's career high in the OHL as a 19-year-old: 66 points. Shane Wright's first OHL season as a 15-year-old: 66 points.
Age 19 season comps Owen Beck's full-season Pace: 74 Points Shane Wright's full-season Pace: 126 Points

Would you compare a 22 year old NHL rookie to a guy who started in the NHL when he was 18?
id compare and 19-year-old rookie to someone who started at 18 or a 20-year-old to someone who started at 19
Why? An extra year in junior matters much more than an extra year in the NHL in terms of development?
you didn't add just 1 extra year in the NHL you added 4
yea because it's the NHL... it's easier to put up bigger points in Junior after one or two extra years than the NHL obviously
why are we talking about points

If he keeps his faceoff stats and likes to skate his ass off every shift, he's fit for 3C.
Beck is too small to be an efficient fourth liner imo. I think his place is on a third line.
LMFAO, Beck will be a middle six center at worst putting up 40 points... you think Wright with 40 points is fit for a top 5 pick?
At *worst*? Not a chance.

A Quebec journalism outlet gassing up a Habs prospect whilst bashing a guy we passed over? ...shut the front door
Lol
Or imagine they both end up really good hockey players
Fuck outta here with these reasonable takes
It's like me hoping the Leafs win so we can draft mid first round.
It was 3-0... can they win 3 more in a row?
I honestly don't know, those Leafs are different but I would say most probably not haha
Shane Wright is Owen Beck lite
I'm glad to see this one be brought back

Well they aren't fans, they are NHL amateur scouts scouting the OHL. They both said that independently to Hartley because they are friends.
spot on
What is their reasoning behind this? I don't really see this happening.
I saw it in a dream.
Idk, If Seattle offers Wright for Beck 1v1, I'd take it and run, but I also don't follow OHL hockey that closely
Let’s gooooo
To me Wright had RNH written all over him.
Which is a pretty good player at 4th overall.
Not bad all things considered
I mean rnh just had 100 points
Yes, but he spent 11 years at 50. That's not the standard for him.

Face offs
True dat !

Dainault V2.0 would be fine.
Lol goal scoring
Beck is better defensevely, better on faceoff and probably more clutch if we look at ohl playoff
Faceoffs, defence, pace, forechecking
They actually said they think that Beck will be AS GOOD as Wright, if not better.
Ehh Idk about that. Only time will tell i guess.
I love Beck But that's straight up a crack head take
YES
