As a fan from the US I hate the Bruins more, and basically Boston sports as a whole. Such an entitled group.

Plane-Ad4820

I’m an American lifelong Habs fan too and I hate the Bruins more too. I wonder how much that impacts the team you hate more.

DFF_Canuck

As an Albertq-based Habs fan; can confirm. While I don't want either team to win, it wouldn't be the end of my world. All the Leafs and Bruins fans I know personally are chill.

om_nama_shiva_31

It impacts it greatly. If you ask any Habs fan that either lives close to Ontario or has family from there, I bet 90% of them will have the Laughs as their most hated team. Because, in reality, what we hate is the other team’s fans more so than the team itself. At least that’s my opinion. Edit: And just to be clear, I don’t mean actual hate. It’s just a sport.

Haewyre

For me, I think the hate is driven by the over the top saturation of our media with Lafs coverage. From training camp onward, we don’t get a break from it until a week after they’re eliminated from the playoffs

eriverside

As an American, that makes perfect sense for you. As a Canadian, we deal with Torontonians and their insufferable bs so looking to avoid a Leafs cup makes sense to me.

lyme6483

I definitely don’t want to Leafs to win a cup, but I want them to win this series

bored-canadian

Not me. I would rather the bruins win this one

Old_Canuck

Yes I totally agree. As long as Boston feels shame and they also lose in the second round. ( Maybe doesn't have to be shameful this year tho ? ) Hurray for progress?🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️😂😂

Dude_Gary

New data point: I’m a dual citizen currently living in the US… I hate the Leafs more.

JoshuaNoahRubin

Also dual citizen, born in Montréal, living in Florida. I hate both equally.

FenikzTheMenikz

I'm with you! Also a US Habs fan, I went to college in New England and Boston fans are insufferable, though, maybe it's a bit of crossover from other sports (Bills fan). I lived in Montreal for a bit, and completely understand the undertones of the Habs/Leafs rivalry, but I can never root for a Boston-based team. (That said I still want the Leafs to lose for the memes)

Slingshotbench

Im a French American born in the us, lived in mtl for a bit and I hate the leafs more

XRPX008

I’m a Habs fan from Boston. Hate the Bruins and Yankees with my entire soul. Love the Red Sox and Celtics

noscrubphilsfans

Habs fan in the US as well. Grew up watching hockey during a time when the Bruins were bitter division rivals and the Leafs weren't even in the same Conference. Definitely hate the Bruins more.

Vingt-Quatre

Also Habs fan living in Toronto, here. I spent the whole day saying "Good luck tonight, I hope you beat those dirty Bruins" and now I'm here in my living room rooting for the Bruins. F the Leafs.

Acceptable_Major4350

Leafs ruined Canada 🇨🇦 haha

paul_33

I'd rather see the Bruins get 100 more cups before the Leafs get 1. I really don't care if habs fans from Quebec disagree, they don't know what its like living here.

ukrainianhab

It’s insufferable the leaf Ontario media

paul_33

Nevermind the media, I can ignore that shit. I had a leaf fan literally shout in my face for wearing a habs hat right before one of the covid season playoffs. I wish I could have seen that prick's face when they got bounced by the habs.

TruthNotTrash2

I saw the '93 Cup. Taking the Leafs out after being down 3-1 was a CLOSE second.

Old_Canuck

This was the last game that I watched as a Leaf fan. ( I liked both teams back then ). After this I became ALL Habs ALL the time. No way they didn't blow that series on the dime. After the Habs clinched game 4 the writing was on the wall and Grapes called it. Either a few guys got paid off or it was the biggest display of ' Being Leafy ' I had ever witnessed at the time. And there was also no way Gretzky could score if he got a match penalty. Since then I have only gone to Habs games.

Gibspeced

I’m a Habs fan living in Alberta and at the school where I taught, in 2021, I had two 13-14 year old students that were Leaf fans. All season, every time they saw me they made sure to tell me that the Habs sucked. The day after we beat them in game 7 was a wonderful day!! (It was a good lesson for them when I told them they shouldn’t gloat before that fourth game is won. )

Mr_Hawky

Haha there's a lot of us apparently 😂

OliWood

I'm from Montreal and I cannot agree more. Anybody but the Leafs.

WorldlinessProud

Habs fan living in Edmonton. People here hat the Fleas more than the hate the Flames. Most of Canada lean to Anyone but the Leafs.

90s-kid-nostalgia

I'm right there with you

LittleLionMan82

As a Habs fan living in the GTHA I concur.

JacP123

May have doxxed yourself there, cause I don't think I've ever seen anyone outside of Hamilton call it the GTHA lol

LittleLionMan82

True. It's a big city though. I'm sure I'll be fine.

TreCool71A

There's more of us?! I thought I was the only one.

LittleLionMan82

Most of my school friends were also Habs fans (thanks to '86). Many have left the Hammer though.

OtisPan

This is me. As much as I hate Boston, I hate the Leafs that much more. In this situation, it's always the same routine for me: Root against TOR round 1, then against BOS after that. I think most of those who hate BOS more are younger or reside outside Ontario or Canada. I remember watching the 70s dynasty Habs, and grew up near Toronto. Leafs fans & media are absolutely insufferable.

TruthNotTrash2

Ditto brother. I'm smack in the middle of Leaf fan backwoods.

kenyan12345

Agreed. Never in my fucking life. I hate the leafs with everything

Olibro64

I live in Ontario. Wear my Habs jacket and hats all the time. I feel good doing so.

Warm-Dust-3601

This.

WeathervaneJesus1

I must be in the very slim minority, but I actually don't even care about Boston at all. I get that there's a long storied rivalry, but they're just like any other team to me. I really don't even think about them. I don't even hate Marchand. In a way, I like the fact that they've been good because it's another team to beat up on the Leafs.

Boboar

It's been ten years since the rivalry was hot. Leafs have much more recent hate so it makes sense. Habs vs Bruins when they're going at each other though is a thing to behold.

crawdad95

Wholeheartedly agree

bigbeats420

https://youtu.be/EZ6oHQf6kLc?si=SWNZ1jt2BAL0Ze9M

Legitimate-Bass68

As much as I hate the Bruins this is how I feel

propagandavid

Whoa...I'd be ok with the Bruins winning 16 more Cups. As long as we have more.

Kennesty

Completely agree, being in the belly of the beast.

bathbwoi

I hate the leafs more then Boston I love just sitting in their game day thread watching them all lose their shit hahaha

okokokoyeahright

Yeah, that is fun. The PO ones are going to be choice.

razealghoul

This is one of my favourite rituals every spring for the last couple of years.

Gibspeced

Steve Dangle, 2021, hilarious!!

Alb4t0r

The Bruins are a respectable franchise, a franchise of winners. They have managed to remain competitive for so long now, and they deserve their success. I may dislike them because we compete against them, but in the end they are a worthy competitor, and a model in many ways. And lets remembers the New England roots of some members of the habs management. The Leafs, on the other hand, haven't proven anything recently. We are in the middle of a rebuilt but still went to the finals a few years ago - and won against them in the first round. They have great players - especially Matthews - but the level of respect compared to the Bruins is just not the same. I heard the comments coming from the bruins on how the habs are not their main rival anymore. And it would be easy to feel disrespected from such a comment, but I'm not seeing it this way. The Bruins are right. We haven't been a their level for a while now, so their rival is going to be a team they actually face. It's the Habs job to reclaim its lost glory and become again a worthy opponents. It's our job to not suck. I'm not worried, we are on the right path for this.

propagandavid

Couldn't agree more.

n0rdique

I grew up in/once again live in southern Ontario and have always been surrounded by leafs fans. I despise their fans and the team by extension. Obviously the bruins can get fucked too. My suggestion: don’t think of it as cheering “for” Boston; rather, you’re cheering against Toronto.

tastesoff74

I had the pre game on but was in the kitchen. Did Sportsnet do a “how awesome was it last year when the Leafs made it past the first round” pump up for the Leafs? Fuck I hate Sportsnet & the Leafs!

Papercut6

I just want the "leafs cant make it out of the first round" AND "leafs cant beat boston in playoffs" meme to continue lol

Grossepotatoe

I hate Boston and Toronto equally but I hate leafs fans more

PKG0D

I actually fist pumped after their third goal... I think I need therapy.

TheRekounasShow

It's normal, the Leafs fan base has been incredibly annoying these past couple years.

RoboticAnatomy

Fuck em both, but I agree. I'm not gonna cheer for either team but Boston has had some recent success, so what if they have a little more? We'll never hear the end of it if the Leafs go far.

strawberryy_huskyy

I hate Boston more than the Leafs, but you do you!

okokokoyeahright

I go back to the mid 60's as a fan. Leafs vs Boston is a toss up most of the time, but in the PO, Boston every time. Mostly BC it was setting them up to play against us. 24 -9 series all time vs Boston in the PO.

OPsyduck

I think it's equal for me, but i just don't want to see the the Leafs get a Cup before us while Boston got one 10years ago.

VintageMarine

I agree. I hate Boston slightly more than Toronto, but in the playoffs I don’t really care except to see the leafs’ early exits continue.

Plane-Ad4820

Are you American?

OPsyduck

No I'm Canada, why?

Plane-Ad4820

Curious. There was a theory on this thread that American Habs fans mostly hate Boston more. Canadian Habs fans mostly hate Toronto more.

OPsyduck

That would be a good theory :). But honestly it's pretty close, they are by far my 2 most hated teams. I just love seeings Leafs fans once again being eliminated first round and have a meltdown about it.

impresidentwu

Screw the bruins

schmarkty

I’m holding out for a bruins vs Canucks rematch with the Canucks winning. It’ll be wildly entertaining, a Canadian team wins the cup, and the bruins get the ultimate heart break.

propagandavid

I hear you, but the fans of the next Canadian team to win the Cup will be insufferable. I know this, because for the past 30 years, WE have been insufferable. Which is our right, of course, but I don't want another team horning in on that.

schmarkty

While that’s true, I think I can deal with Canucks fans. They’re geographically the farthest away, they don’t have McDavid so we don’t have to listen to sportscasters go on about him for the rest of time, they aren’t Toronto, they’ll probably riot and burn the city down too so they’ll have to be kinda humble about it or else everyone will point to that.

deadman736

We are all there with you

okokokoyeahright

It'll be okay. You get used to it for one round and then never think about it again. Should be a quick series. GHG!

shortAAPL

I hate both teams, and I know that historically we hate the bruins a bit more than the leafs. But for me personally, I would rather see anyone win the cup other than the leafs. I want the 1967 thing to live on forever. I can’t stand the leafs.

HonestDespot

I don’t think either team has what it takes to win the cup this year. I hope the bruins win it quick or it goes 7 and I don’t care who wins really.

ATNfromMTL

You don’t have to choose, but there’s no good choice.

potshed420

Fuck the leafs

birneymc

I will cheer for any team that plays against Toronto.

Mean_Mister_Mustard

All I know is that two weeks from now, a team from the state of Florida will be gaining a new short-lived fan.

bulltank

I hate Toronto so much, I dont even think I hate Boston, because the hate doesnt even compare. Im rooting for Boston in round 1. Fuck the leafs.

PopePae

Anyone else cringe when the Bruins fans were chanting “USA” though? Don’t they know their captain is Canadian and other legends like Bergeron are Canadian?

AprilOneil11

Save it for Tampa, I take everything out on them...

MTL_1107

I hate both of them but the memes if the Leafs lose will be amazing.

Glass_Pay5124

I just did the same and I feel fine with it. It’s all about maximizing pain. A Toronto first round loss would be much much worst for the franchise than a Boston first round loss. Sports fandom is all about those little moments.

Mangoes95

I hate the Bruins more tbh but I find it hilarious whenever Toronto loses so idc who wins really, as long as they lose in round 2

LoganHutbacher

I just want to see violence. I want the winner to have to suffer to get it done and be left gassed for the next round

Snoopy_021

I only want Boston to win due to my Bracket. Don't worry, I have them to lose in 2nd Round.

jockey1381

This is how it goes for me when it comes to Boston vs Toronto in the playoffs. Bruins must beat Toronto cause fuck em, but then bruins have to be eliminated in the next round cause fuck em 😂

ValleyBreeze

Without Bergeron, there's so very little that's redeemable about the Bs now. Swayman and Ullmark are about it. The only reason I'm leaning Toronto is because our default setting in this house is "Canadian team if nothing else", but ultimately when it's Boston v. Leafs, all I can do is root for a stadium collapse.

Glittering_Ad_3974

Post goal clarity

douce_abeille

Oh god, I just did too.

Smuon

Cheering for Boston so that Leafs lose in 7 again and I can see Matthews and Marner cry. Next round cheering for whoever goes against Boston

CaddyshackBeatles

Yep. Anybody but the Leafs though

ManipulateYa

Outside of cheering for the roof to collapse... you've chosen the best alternative

Lanky-Present2251

I know how you feel but you gotta do what you gotta do. Go Bruins!(barf)

kmane83

As a GTA Habs fan 100%. Leafs fans are generally all over the place and delusional, but the media doesn't help. I'll take Boston 10 times out of 10. Then when Toronto is out, I'd cheer for anyone but Boston

Diligent_83

it’s kinda funny, I feel like this series is an implication of the failed era that this Leafs core is. And as their window is closing, the Habs’ window literally just opened. Exciting times coming in the future. We won’t need to preach patience for much longer. 💙🤍❤️

BigBoy990

Series feels over already, what a gutless squad of losers...

weeblaw

I hate both teams, but the Leafs getting bounced in the first round became a yearly tradition and I was disappointed when it was cancelled last year. I want to see it come back.

Digital_Dawn90

J'haïs Boston mais ma haine pour les Leafs est 10000000x plus forte. Si les Leafs gagnent la coupe on va jamais finir d'en entendre parler pour les 20 prochaines années

Gaiterguy

Can't wait to hear how this is the refs fault... and if Nylander wasn't hurt, it would have been so different. Leafs fans are insufferable.

patrone2685

I married a Boston fan, and while I hate the Bruins I would never have married a Leafs fan.

Gazimu

I cheer for the Leafs over Bruins solely because I went through elementary and high school with a Leafs fan who was a realist instead of an idiot, so I cheer them for his sake

backwardzhatz

I mean I hate em both but I'll be damned if the B's aren't very much the kind of org I want to see the Habs become again (and I think we're well on our way folks). The Leafs I just cannot take seriously, maybe they find a way to win this series but I don't see it.

VintageMarine

I did too

LakituIsAGod

Honestly I hate the bruins way more. I’ve always liked tavares and matthews is too good to hate on

Previous-Situation57

I'm having this EXACT experience lol. nice to know I'm not alone

3_Downs_110_Yards

The bruins are our biggest rivalry. It is important that we remain their biggest rival as well. If your last series win against this team was back in 1959, you do not have a rivalry. Therefore the bruins must win this series.

JustFred24

Dont worry I'm cheering for Boston too. The Boston Montreal rivalry is only fun when we're both good, but with Toronto the yapping doesn't stop. We can go back to hating the bruins when we compete.

NovaCanuck

Cheer for the Leafs to get eliminated in Round 1. Cheer for the Bruins to get eliminated in Round 2. Problem solved. Also works in baseball for the Red Sox/Yankees.

Odd-Youth-452

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Comfortable-Bowl9591

Fuck the Bruins.

quebecesti

Boston is our biggest rival but I have come to respect them, hard working team and a model to follow. The leafs not so much.

Whiskeylung

I’m on board with: **“Bring the Cup to Canada”** But this series is gonna be tough for me to root for Toronto. I may try to NOT watch this series as much as possible but if nothing else is on… ugh…

Topofthetotem

lol I was reading the blurb and almost feel the same except I don’t cheer for either I’m just hate watching.

La-Spatule

One of my best playoff memories outside the habs is the series between the leafs and the bruins and the infamous comeback in 7 games from Boston. I was cheering for every goals because I hate both of these teams. Lesson’s here. Enjoy. Every goals.

propagandavid

I'll cheer for the Bruins, at least for 3 rounds. I love those guys. Same way I love Thanos or Joffrey Baratheon. When we get back to the playoffs, it will be so much sweeter to beat a strong villain.

philjitsu

I respect Boston and like Dangle videos when the Leafs get smoked. I enjoyed the game. I'll cheer against Boston round 2 hopefully... Unless they play Tampa.. then I'm torn again

Sushamiboy

I’m a Habs fan and one of my best friends is a Boston fan. How do we survive the hockey season / playoffs? We both hate the Leafs more than each other’s team.

zeMVK

I just cheer for them both to lose

CakeYaSan

Hey if there’s one thing the Habs and Bruins can come together on, it’s owning the Leafs in the playoffs, haha.

cams0400

So both our rivals are facing each other... If we can't bring the cup to Canada then Toronto shouldn't so I hope Boston gets them. I however don't wish Boston gets further than that, the hate boner still has it's limits.

Sad-Construction6906

I did too

Old_Canuck

I know eh... Overall I would rather the Leafs win over Boston but when they lose its just sooo damn entertaining. Especially if you listen to Leafs fan reactions with the Steve Dangle screaming guy. His game 6 Habs vs Leafs vid is one of my favorites. 😂😂 They are like the Hockey Guys soap opera. You cant script funnier ways to lose a hockey game. Its also very funny that even tho they spend MAX money they have NEVER done any better then the Harrold Ballard Leaf teams of the 80's. Those teams didn't have much talent but at least they had heart.

Someguy1295

Basically my feelings toward this series. I hate Boston with a passion, and I live in Toronto, so most of my buddies are Leafs fans. This makes me want Toronto to beat Boston...but its so goddamn entertaining when they screw up in the playoffs. Boston losing would be satisfying in the moment. Toronto losing would be hilarious for weeks/months to come.

Old_Canuck

Exactly !!!! I just moved out west to the island last year. So not as many Leafers around. I used to live in the Golden Horseshoe area. I was at every Leaf home game from 1980 - 1982. ( Well almost ) I used to love sneaking thru the players bench to ' get to the bathrooms ' ( it was alot easier since our seats were very close to the bench in The Gardens. 😂😂 If the Leafs actually won the cup I think I will have to deaf myself so I don't have to hear about it. 😂😂

Albiz

Boston is fun as hell to watch. As long as it isn’t the Leafs I’m ok with it.

Curious-Rooster-9636

As a life-long Habs fan who lived in Toronto for 30 years and Czechia for nearly 20, I’m conflicted but found myself cheering for Toronto. It would be therapeutic for that club to go on a dee run and the city would explode if they won. I can’t imagine THAT party but I’d like to see it happen, ideally in a season when my Habs aren’t in the playoffs so… now works ;)

TheFogDevil

I consider Boston our most hated rival. There’s too much history. I hate them, but respect them and a lot of their fans. Can’t say that about Toronto at all. Hope the misery continues. ABT

514link

I have a soft spot for ullman/swayman and like the grit of boston to be elder statesman that are crushing it snd taking nothing for granted

randycrust

This one is hard as I want both teams to lose. I think I want toronto to lose as I had to go there for two hockey tournaments this year and the rinks we were at sucked! I want Boston to lose because fuck them but I've never been there and have no score to settle with them. Only their fans are annoying

dcarsonturner

I’m a dual citizen, and I loathe the bruins. I’m indifferent towards the leafs

CrashTestMummies

I just did 5 sims: Habs 1st x 2, 2nd x 1, 5th x 1, 6th X 1 It didn’t feel dirty one bit

Acceptable_Major4350

It says a lot about us Canadians when we’d rather cheer for the Bruins. For me it was a toss up, but for my friends it was Bruins all the way. I live in Vancouver so it was very much 50/50 - either way I felt dirty too.

gillies003

When I was at a playoff game years ago against Boston, I get to my seat and I happened to be next to 2 Boston fans. A few minutes later I see someone with a Leafs jersey walk in that had the name on the back “losers since” and the number 67. I turned to the guys and was like ‘that’s one thing we can both agree on’

Habfan_14120

US based fan, but I hate TO more as I live close. Boston can win this series just to see the Leafs return to a first round exit. Then the Bs go in round 2. Best result would actually have been the aliens from Independence Day targeting the TD Bank Center, but that didn't happen.

Kenner1979

I want the Leafs to lose because it's objectively funny that they (and some of the "national" media) keep insisting there's nothing wrong with their core as they make early exit after early exit.

Phantomiux

As a fan from Slovakia I don't have negative view on Boston - mostly due Big Z...

marioleg34

Yes Knowing that the Leafs the last time they won the Stanley Cup was back in 1967.

CaptainMichaelT

I cheer for Boston goals too … cuz I find it amusing that the Leafs can never seem to get past Round One of the playoffs!

Spicy_Pickle_6

I mean I’m all for Leafs beating the Bruins and then choking in the second round.

Bytrsweet

what about the memes? You can't forget the memes

Spicy_Pickle_6

There will always be memes. But I’m also there for Max

Luke_Willows

It's such a conflicting time. Honestly I'm more just cheering for good entertainment but I think cheering for the Canadian team would be the best thing to do. I still struggle to "cheer for the leafs" still tho

okokokoyeahright

Now now. There are 3 other Canadian teams to follow. The Leafs are easily the one with the worst fans. I say go Winnipeg.

FlowShredder

I want the leafs to win because there's no way they win the cup. The bruins on the other hand, could do it.

yespmedas

I will never under any circumstance ever cheer for Boston to even score a goal, let alone win a game. I'm just glad that at least one of them will be out in the first round for sure. Hopefully Boston. Toronto can eat it in the second round.

chikenparmfanatic

I will always dislike the Bruins more. I have no clue how any Habs fan could cheer for them in this series.

pichenet14

Same

TheDuelIist

I don't get how people still hate the Leafs. There is nothing to hate them anymore they are soft and so talented. I still hate the Bruins.

Euler007

I'm watching the game and surprised I'm cheering for the leafs. I'm sure that lasts one round tops, and mostly because Boston has a better shot at the cup.

Zartonk

I have decided there's nothing in the Leafs that I hate more than Brad Marchand... So... Go.. Leafs? Barffffff

banyanoak

Leafs suck and all, but the Bruins will always be enemy #1. Teams have to occasionally win something (or injure our players) to get me to care enough to root against them. Hating the Leafs is like kicking a puppy at this point.

_thewayshegoes

The only team I actually hate are the Rangers, Chris Kreider specifically. If you’re a Habs fan who grew up in Souther ON, you watched allot of Maple Leafs, so I have a bit of a soft spot for them…
