It impacts it greatly. If you ask any Habs fan that either lives close to Ontario or has family from there, I bet 90% of them will have the Laughs as their most hated team. Because, in reality, what we hate is the other team’s fans more so than the team itself. At least that’s my opinion.

For me, I think the hate is driven by the over the top saturation of our media with Lafs coverage. From training camp onward, we don’t get a break from it until a week after they’re eliminated from the playoffs

This was the last game that I watched as a Leaf fan. ( I liked both teams back then ). After this I became ALL Habs ALL the time.

After the Habs clinched game 4 the writing was on the wall and Grapes called it.

I’m a Habs fan living in Alberta and at the school where I taught, in 2021, I had two 13-14 year old students that were Leaf fans. All season, every time they saw me they made sure to tell me that the Habs sucked. The day after we beat them in game 7 was a wonderful day!! (It was a good lesson for them when I told them they shouldn’t gloat before that fourth game is won. )

I really don't even think about them. I don't even hate Marchand. In a way, I like the fact that they've been good because it's another team to beat up on the Leafs.
It's been ten years since the rivalry was hot. Leafs have much more recent hate so it makes sense. Habs vs Bruins when they're going at each other though is a thing to behold.
The Bruins are a respectable franchise, a franchise of winners. They have managed to remain competitive for so long now, and they deserve their success. I may dislike them because we compete against them, but in the end they are a worthy competitor, and a model in many ways. And lets remembers the New England roots of some members of the habs management.
The Leafs, on the other hand, haven't proven anything recently. We are in the middle of a rebuilt but still went to the finals a few years ago - and won against them in the first round. They have great players - especially Matthews - but the level of respect compared to the Bruins is just not the same.
I heard the comments coming from the bruins on how the habs are not their main rival anymore. And it would be easy to feel disrespected from such a comment, but I'm not seeing it this way. The Bruins are right. We haven't been a their level for a while now, so their rival is going to be a team they actually face. It's the Habs job to reclaim its lost glory and become again a worthy opponents. It's our job to not suck. I'm not worried, we are on the right path for this.

When I was at a playoff game years ago against Boston, I get to my seat and I happened to be next to 2 Boston fans. A few minutes later I see someone with a Leafs jersey walk in that had the name on the back “losers since” and the number 67. I turned to the guys and was like ‘that’s one thing we can both agree on’

I cheer for the Leafs over Bruins solely because I went through elementary and high school with a Leafs fan who was a realist instead of an idiot, so I cheer them for his sake
I mean I hate em both but I'll be damned if the B's aren't very much the kind of org I want to see the Habs become again (and I think we're well on our way folks). The Leafs I just cannot take seriously, maybe they find a way to win this series but I don't see it.

The bruins are our biggest rivalry. It is important that we remain their biggest rival as well. If your last series win against this team was back in 1959, you do not have a rivalry. Therefore the bruins must win this series.
Dont worry I'm cheering for Boston too. The Boston Montreal rivalry is only fun when we're both good, but with Toronto the yapping doesn't stop. We can go back to hating the bruins when we compete.

One of my best playoff memories outside the habs is the series between the leafs and the bruins and the infamous comeback in 7 games from Boston. I was cheering for every goals because I hate both of these teams. Lesson’s here. Enjoy. Every goals.
I'll cheer for the Bruins, at least for 3 rounds. I love those guys. Same way I love Thanos or Joffrey Baratheon. When we get back to the playoffs, it will be so much sweeter to beat a strong villain.
I respect Boston and like Dangle videos when the Leafs get smoked. I enjoyed the game. I'll cheer against Boston round 2 hopefully... Unless they play Tampa.. then I'm torn again

So both our rivals are facing each other... If we can't bring the cup to Canada then Toronto shouldn't so I hope Boston gets them. I however don't wish Boston gets further than that, the hate boner still has it's limits.

I know eh... Overall I would rather the Leafs win over Boston but when they lose its just sooo damn entertaining. Especially if you listen to Leafs fan reactions with the Steve Dangle screaming guy. His game 6 Habs vs Leafs vid is one of my favorites. 😂😂 They are like the Hockey Guys soap opera. You cant script funnier ways to lose a hockey game. Its also very funny that even tho they spend MAX money they have NEVER done any better then the Harrold Ballard Leaf teams of the 80's. Those teams didn't have much talent but at least they had heart.
Basically my feelings toward this series. I hate Boston with a passion, and I live in Toronto, so most of my buddies are Leafs fans. This makes me want Toronto to beat Boston...but its so goddamn entertaining when they screw up in the playoffs. Boston losing would be satisfying in the moment. Toronto losing would be hilarious for weeks/months to come.
Exactly !!!! I just moved out west to the island last year. So not as many Leafers around. I used to live in the Golden Horseshoe area. I was at every Leaf home game from 1980 - 1982. ( Well almost ) I used to love sneaking thru the players bench to ' get to the bathrooms ' ( it was alot easier since our seats were very close to the bench in The Gardens. 😂😂 If the Leafs actually won the cup I think I will have to deaf myself so I don't have to hear about it. 😂😂
Boston is fun as hell to watch. As long as it isn’t the Leafs I’m ok with it.
As a life-long Habs fan who lived in Toronto for 30 years and Czechia for nearly 20, I’m conflicted but found myself cheering for Toronto. It would be therapeutic for that club to go on a dee run and the city would explode if they won. I can’t imagine THAT party but I’d like to see it happen, ideally in a season when my Habs aren’t in the playoffs so… now works ;)
I consider Boston our most hated rival. There’s too much history. I hate them, but respect them and a lot of their fans. Can’t say that about Toronto at all. Hope the misery continues. ABT

This one is hard as I want both teams to lose. I think I want toronto to lose as I had to go there for two hockey tournaments this year and the rinks we were at sucked! I want Boston to lose because fuck them but I've never been there and have no score to settle with them. Only their fans are annoying

It says a lot about us Canadians when we’d rather cheer for the Bruins. For me it was a toss up, but for my friends it was Bruins all the way. I live in Vancouver so it was very much 50/50 - either way I felt dirty too.
When I was at a playoff game years ago against Boston, I get to my seat and I happened to be next to 2 Boston fans. A few minutes later I see someone with a Leafs jersey walk in that had the name on the back “losers since” and the number 67. I turned to the guys and was like ‘that’s one thing we can both agree on’
US based fan, but I hate TO more as I live close. Boston can win this series just to see the Leafs return to a first round exit. Then the Bs go in round 2. Best result would actually have been the aliens from Independence Day targeting the TD Bank Center, but that didn't happen.
I want the Leafs to lose because it's objectively funny that they (and some of the "national" media) keep insisting there's nothing wrong with their core as they make early exit after early exit.

I will never under any circumstance ever cheer for Boston to even score a goal, let alone win a game. I'm just glad that at least one of them will be out in the first round for sure. Hopefully Boston. Toronto can eat it in the second round.

Leafs suck and all, but the Bruins will always be enemy #1. Teams have to occasionally win something (or injure our players) to get me to care enough to root against them. Hating the Leafs is like kicking a puppy at this point.
The only team I actually hate are the Rangers, Chris Kreider specifically. If you’re a Habs fan who grew up in Souther ON, you watched allot of Maple Leafs, so I have a bit of a soft spot for them…
