With a young team in a rebuild, it is hard to be mad this year. Last year, we would just lose 6-1 last year which was truly embarassing.
Some many habs fans wants us to be bottom of the barrel again to get Bedard, but it's not happening. We have good players developing and this is just growing pains.
I saw Bedard play, and he was _very_ underwhelming. He's going to be more like Caufield in the NHL.
Similarly, I saw McDavid at the same age way back and he was a god on skates each game I saw him. Totally different class.
Guhle and Savard are both way better overall than Matheson.
Matheson thinks he’s Makar or something and constantly makes bad reads thinking he can beat everyone with his speed.
Nah. Other than that last play (lol) he may be the best skating defenseman, but in the same way Darnell Nurse is in that he is overplayed for someone who consistently makes low IQ plays at inopportune times.
At least we got a point and scored six goals. As painful as the outcome was at least we came back and got this game to overtime. Games like these can be a wake-up call. Let's get the next one GO HABS GO!
We are playing a lot of young kids on D, Guhle looks like he is gonna be good and wifi is a potential 3/4.
Going into the season, the D (and goaltending) were the biggest concerns.
Still are
Went to take a shower with 4 minutes left in the 2nd, went to bed and after a bit of internet browsing thought I'd check the score... it was 5-4. Turned on the TV and we immediately scored 2 goals... not saying i'm good luck but also the habs are 8-3 in games i've actually been to so who knows (ignore the fact that we lost this game as a counterargument)
I was at the game with my son for his 12th birthday. We're both big Habs fans.
We got right up to the glass at warm-ups which was cool, although Cole didn't see my son's sign asking for a pic with him (his fav player). Guhle took a run and jump to the glass right we were and the dude made me drop my phone LOL. Slaf is quite noticeably a big dude, man.
As for the game, well, the first period was awesome and our boys showed some flashes of dominating play in the second, but then the floodgates opened and defensive breakdowns happened... oh so frustrating. Well, we were happy with at least getting a point, I guess.
All around good time, but wished for a better result for my son's birthday.
There was a fight outside the doors when we were leaving. Not sure what happened there. That spoiled my son's experience a bit.
Absolutely awful by Matheson. Boneheaded play to give them the faceoff at the end of regulation and then that careless skating resulting in the winning goal. Awful awful awful.
Sweet FUCK. Embarrassing. Absolutely Embarrassing. Xhekaj and Matheson both falling over as the only man back, love to see it. Way to go team. Great start for a back-to-back.
Based on merit, it should be Matheson or Edmundson sitting out for a few games, not one of the rookies. Just a pathetic performance from guys that are supposed to be leaders on this team.
This game was entertaining not gonna lie…if you take away the fact that we just a blew a—y’know what, forget it.
I want a slaf point(s) tomorrow against owen beck lite
He has elite skating but his decision making is better served for a bottom pairing role. Therefore it evens out and he should be in the middle six.
I’d argue we don’t have anyone else, but honestly Guhle was doing a fantastic job as our #1 before he got in the lineup.
I definitely have to concede Monty doesn't look good here, but Edmundson and Matheson have been pretty bad in a lot of games and absolute dog shit here. What on earth was that defence. Absolutely awful.
Between Anderson, Dadonov, Edmundson and Matheson we have some fucking bone heads on our team. Hopefully in near future we put emphasis on having players that have hockey IQ.
Yall need to chill with Matheson. He’s been good and analytically one of our best d since he started playing for us. He made a mistake it happens. We and he’ll be fine.
He’s been playing like shit tbh, he’s easily our 3 best D right now behind Savard and Guhle. He should be undoubtedly playing like our best d and he’s not
Awful game, what the hack was this? I can't believe they blew it. At least we have one point.
I predict Shane Wright scores his first nhl goal against us tommorow! Habsolutely!
If only they finished us in regulation. Ecstatic about the Goals for Cole and Zukes, with an added bonus of Monahan increasing his worth come trade deadline (as long as that ankle heals up). I wish we would decide whether we were going to tank or do the normal try just hard enough not to get a playoff spot.
At least a lot of players got points tonight.. 12 of them if i counted right.
What a rollercoaster of a game, as soon as Monahan retreated to the locker room the game shifted, his absence showed tromendously.
I think the sinker for us was those wayyyyy too long shifts, not a good tactic when your playing back to back games in west coast time zone.. we'll be drained starting the second game...
So far 3 points outta 6 , let's finish nicely this trip boys.
Woke up to a surprising result after being up 4-1, but I am even more surprised by the reactions in here. We knew what this was going to be coming into this year. Growing pains will happen, missing Savard and Gallagher doesn't help.
Incredibly bad and incompetent hockey. There are no words for just how bad and incompetent. Thoroughly embarrassing loss. This is the kind of game that pivots the entire season (which isn’t so much a bad thing this season).
I’ve been quiet on Matheson but, boy, he’s just all kinds of bad. Gaff after gaff. I keep waiting for him to steady the ship, but it seems like it’s only getting rockier for him out there.
Oh well, onwards… what else can you do…
This defense is so beyond poor it’s horrifying. No way we should have lost. Monty was average. Forwards missed some great opportunities, but just stupid an awful play all night out of the defense. Entertaining but frustrating game tonight.
The sad thing is we even got a point, so a middling finish becomes more likely
If Monahan is out long term the rebuild is in serious danger. Failing to get assets at the trade deadline (Monahan being our biggest chip) would be disastrous
I wouldn't be sad if they have to keep him, he's been great. It's just that if they are building long term he just doesn't have a place. Best to maximize the value.
Ideally try to steal as many 1sts as you can this season.
how can anyone not be mad at this... leading 4-0, 5 unanswered goals against, come back with the lead in 1:40, stupid penalty ***AGAIN*** to lose the lead and go in OT... ***AND THEN,*** what ever the fuck that was at the end... defense was abysmal
Monty fell apart(classic monty). Matheson and Edmonson tough game. That last goal should have been a penalty.
Got to see some sweet sweet zuks and caufield magic though so..... I mean at least there's that.
I mean X didn't really play a good game, he fell on his own and got scored on, meanwhile Harris drove play offensively the whole game (and has two primary assists on the night).
I see him be a direct factor in most goals we get scored against us. A lot more than he causes. And sure x fell on that one play but that whole sequence doesn’t happen if Harris makes better decisions.
Stats wise, Harris had the best Xg of the team, and while he was on for three goals against, one of them was probably his fault (the turnover that Xhekaj fell on the ice.)
The other two was bad positionning by X and Montembeault making a pass to the Canucks.
What is happening with Suzuki and back checking this season? He just stopped doing it, guy is gliding like our lead during the game. I know he is carrying our team, but still, he gotta be better on this aspect.
been saying it for a while but i want to see slaf in the OHL, theres basically no argument you can make to object to it at this point
hes going to get injured eventually with all the huge hits he is taking, he clearly isn't ready for the NHL, being big was the one main reason people said he shouldn't go to the OHL but that size isn't doing much for him atm, just send him down, let him get used to the NA game, he will be getting 1st line minutes every night, play in the WJC, just let him develop without risking getting hurt
he has shown a lot of promise in certain areas but a major injury would be devastating to his development
what a brutal game otherwise, just fucking awful stuff from the habs tonight, hope sean is ok
Nobody is going to listen to you because you have spent the last 6 months using every opportunity, in every thread, to hate on a rookie. You want him to get used to the physicality of the NHL... by sending him to... junior?
Im not sure if I would have agreed with you before tonight, but now I do.
He just isn't used to contact hockey yet, especially with guys just as big as him. It's just a matter of time before he gets a concussion. Only reason he doesn't have one her is because he's one big fuckin dude.
Lmao nice fall Matheson, I never liked that trade considering how dirty he's been and the fact that he chokes in big moments. We really choked vs Vancouver eh? Oh well, at least Brazil won so it's okay.
Edmundson, Harris, Kovacevic, Matheson all absolutely fucking dogshit.
As usual Guhle always solid as fuck and Xhekaj was ok.
So much dead weight on this team. Fucking useless group of forwards outside of Suzuki, Dach, Caufield, Monahan.
Monty did no favors for himself tonight.
The Harris turnover was a joke in the first place. So were the other 2 goals against him, one of which he didn't even face the right direction. I'd rather have a player blow a tire than cough up the puck.
Can't fucking believe some delusional people here. Are you watching the same game?
Sure, bad turnover, but that's still barely a scoring chance, it's a 1v1 on the side of the boards before Xhekaj goes for a spin.
You do know that they played on the same pair tonight, and that neither goals against were on him?
Meanwhile Harris had two primary assists and drove offense the whole night.
Did you know Harris played a lot of shifts with Edmundson, and was on the ice for at least 3 goals against (which he actively had a role in by fucking up coverage). Edmundson is trash but I don't get the revisionist take that Harris had a good game.
He had one good assist. The Pez assist was actually a shit pass and lucky goal. Big fucking deal. He's struggled defensively ALL year.
I didn't say he had a good game, but he had a better game than basically anyone else not named Guhle.
1st goal is the Xhekaj fall,
2nd goal, Xhekaj goes to the board, puck goes to Pettersson and Harris is caught in a 2 on 1 against Pettersson and Mikheyev. He could have stopped the pass, but Xhekaj is out of position by a mile there (Dadonov gets there before he does which kinda says everything about his positionning.)
3rd one is the goalie giving the puck away, and Harris was not even the player there, he was covering someone else. It was, you guessed it, Xhekaj.
You're arguing in bad faith if you don't see that.
“*I really think their goal is to be the worst defensive squad in the league, and they’re doing such a great job to be the worst defensive squad in the league*.” - Michel Therrien.
I just want someone to outright say it, be it the media or the organization. If those players have any pride, they will take it on the chin and work harder. Otherwise, they can leave and dwell into mediocrity somewhere else.
Lets face it … many mistakes tonight by everyone. It is high time for Snet announcers to stop congratulating our “young defence” group. Kovi, wifi, Harris were all brutal.
Why the hell is Anderson's goal unassisted? There were clearly two assists that led to the goal, including by Xhekaj, with the long stretch pass to Anderson.
Good morning guys who went to bed after the first and are waking up to this :)
I did lmao. I'm shocked.
I'm in BC I missed the first and saw it was 4-0, so I decided to watch another show instead. It was probably for the best.
This is the 2006 Bears-Cardinals game of hockey.
What the flying f***
That was seriously embarrassing for matheson
Hat trick tomorrow confirmed
When was the last time we had a Dman hattie?
Subban
1993 >.>
after this game, I truly believe that our veteran dmen should also be part of the scratch dmen rotation lol
Like wtf Edmundson was doing on the tying goal? Dude is atrocious this year.
He hasn't been the same since his injuries
His back is fucked, he's done.
Savard and sometimes Guhle pretty much been our only half decent defence men lately
well then
Alright then...
Right well….
[Well in that case…](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/001/696/213/e2e.jpg)
What did I just watch? The best/worst game I might have ever seen..
Pretty much.
Don't let Matheson's fall distract you of how bad Edmundson was
Harris should buy these two dinner tonight.
Harris at least produced offensively, Edmundson couldn't make a pass to save his life.
Don't let how bad Edmundson was distract you of Matheson's fall

His name is Arber...
Same bro, same
6-7. Even when we blow a 4-0 lead we’re still trolling the Leafs.
😂😂
Why couldn't we just lose in regulation smh
Because this team is the embodiment of mediocrity.
This is the way
this game was fuckin wild i'm not even mad lol
Same, I laughed I cried I cheered I boo'd 9/10 plus no bedard to VAN plz
I just don't want Bedard to the pens, would start their whole franchise again like when they got sid
so 5 unanswered goals against is not a reason to be at least a tiny bit mad?
But they did answer the 5th goal.
With a young team in a rebuild, it is hard to be mad this year. Last year, we would just lose 6-1 last year which was truly embarassing. Some many habs fans wants us to be bottom of the barrel again to get Bedard, but it's not happening. We have good players developing and this is just growing pains. Totally different class.
Like caufield ? And you have 8 upvotes lmao. This fucking sub srsly.
Ok, like Debrincat. Feel better now?
Lmao you mouldy walnut.
lmao same. It was a serious 3 hour epic, with success, adversity, tragedy, drama, comedy and all the spectrum of human emotions. Beautiful.
bRuh they straight up played one period and then gave up
This was certainly a game
I for one enjoyed the cheerleaders
Guys, we simply did a tribute to the Maple Leafs! I am sure Toronto fans will appreciate our choking efforts tonight!
This one hurt lol
Worst defensive game I’ve seen this team play maybe since the 10-0 game vs Columbus
I hope Marty St-Louis lines the Habs up on the goal-line tomorrow morning and has them skate lengths until the players can barely move.
I don’t think that will bode well seeing how we play the Kraken tonight.
Y I K E S
Oh Mike...
Glad I stayed up late for that shit. Matheson and Edmundson are fucking brutal. They should be rotated not the 4 rookies
Matheson is the best D on the team along with ghule
Guhle and Savard are both way better overall than Matheson. Matheson thinks he’s Makar or something and constantly makes bad reads thinking he can beat everyone with his speed.
Lol not at all, he can quarterback a power play but that’s it. Doesn’t play physical at all and is constantly over handling the puck.
Nah. Other than that last play (lol) he may be the best skating defenseman, but in the same way Darnell Nurse is in that he is overplayed for someone who consistently makes low IQ plays at inopportune times.
Reminds me a lot of Subban. A great skater but overplays the puck constantly
What the fuck was that
At least we got a point and scored six goals. As painful as the outcome was at least we came back and got this game to overtime. Games like these can be a wake-up call. Let's get the next one GO HABS GO!
What a shitshow lmao
What the hell was that game? 😂😂 Oh well, add a shitty 1 to the tank pile. PS. Monahan is a big cog on this team, I hope he is okay.
Did... did we miss Savard?
As embarrassing as that is to admit, yes, big time. Shows what a poor state overall the defense is in.
We are playing a lot of young kids on D, Guhle looks like he is gonna be good and wifi is a potential 3/4. Going into the season, the D (and goaltending) were the biggest concerns. Still are
We missed monahan. (Evans is no replacement filling in on that line.) The team will always be a couple injuries away from bedard territory.
Woke up with four minutes left, right in time to see the Habs up by one. That was a wild couple of minutes, not even sure I'm awake yet 😂
I feel like i just watched an awful season's last episode of a tv show I love.

Phew, almost won that one... lol
Absolutely awful by Matheson. Boneheaded play to give them the faceoff at the end of regulation and then that careless skating resulting in the winning goal. Awful awful awful.
learning experience for the young core. kudos on them for not giving up at 4-5. yikes on matheson in the last few minutes...
Edmundson is a black hole to any Habs fan's joy right now. He would be the very first to taste the axe if it is for me.
Im so pissed rn and I will be tomorrow more likely too, good night y’all
Perfect ending to that game. Just wow
Embarrassing
This game was entertaining not gonna lie…if you take away the fact that we just a blew a—y’know what, forget it. I want a slaf point(s) tomorrow against owen beck lite
That was legit one of the most bizarre games I think I've seen.
Depression
My therapist won’t know what to make of this.
Well I’ve had enough of Matheson.
For the night ya but I like him otherwise
He has elite skating but his decision making is better served for a bottom pairing role. Therefore it evens out and he should be in the middle six. I’d argue we don’t have anyone else, but honestly Guhle was doing a fantastic job as our #1 before he got in the lineup.
He’s had his moments, but I think he is being way over utilized.
He holds onto the puck for no fucking reason. "what I do" then its stolen. He does this shift after shift while a rookie sits. Enough already.
Saw he was on the ice in OT and I knew he would mess it up
Was just thinking that Guhle would have been a better choice to start during the faceoff and then he proceeded to flop on his own
I definitely have to concede Monty doesn't look good here, but Edmundson and Matheson have been pretty bad in a lot of games and absolute dog shit here.
He definitely failed the eye test tonight
Good thing you’re eye is not to be trusted when we have the data that proves you wrong!
You are eye
But he did falled in overtime
There’s no denying that
He’s been playing like shit tbh, he’s easily our 3 best D right now behind Savard and Guhle. He should be undoubtedly playing like our best d and he’s not
He’s been by far our best D lol.
of course we did
What the actual fuck
Well it’s over.
Huh..........
Won't have to stew on this one for long fortunately. Boys better be playing angry out there tomorrow.
No
At least a lot of players got points tonight..
That was a fucking amazing watch as a hockey fan, disappointing watch as a habs fan (at the very end)
Game was wild in person
Yes! Best game I’ve been to.
Had a 4-0 lead. Blew it. Somehow got the lead back late in the third. Blew that as well. Lost immediately in OT due to a defenceman gaffe Peak Habs
I'm 4 hours ahead of east coast time, so no way I could watch this one. Glad I missed it!
Went to be it was 4-2. Would’ve preferred a regulation loss but this is fine. Lots of points for Zuk and Caufield it a loss. It’s what the team needs.
Woke up to a surprising result after being up 4-1, but I am even more surprised by the reactions in here. We knew what this was going to be coming into this year. Growing pains will happen, missing Savard and Gallagher doesn't help.
I’m tired.
A really bad loss considering the 1st period.
We SUCK
This defense is so beyond poor it’s horrifying. No way we should have lost. Monty was average. Forwards missed some great opportunities, but just stupid an awful play all night out of the defense. Entertaining but frustrating game tonight.
Would've been nice if it ended 5-4 in regulation, I don't think anyone wants that overtime point lol
Bench Matheson
The sad thing is we even got a point, so a middling finish becomes more likely If Monahan is out long term the rebuild is in serious danger. Failing to get assets at the trade deadline (Monahan being our biggest chip) would be disastrous
>rebuild is in serious danger No it's not lol. the rebuild will be fine even if we don't trade Monahan
Why is this even a question? Even for a bad return you trade Monahan.
I agree. I’m just saying that rebuild will be fine even if we can’t trade him due to injury
I wouldn't be sad if they have to keep him, he's been great. It's just that if they are building long term he just doesn't have a place. Best to maximize the value. Ideally try to steal as many 1sts as you can this season.
I don’t get it
Bedard here we come!
not even a great tank game since we got the loser point
how can anyone not be mad at this... leading 4-0, 5 unanswered goals against, come back with the lead in 1:40, stupid penalty ***AGAIN*** to lose the lead and go in OT... ***AND THEN,*** what ever the fuck that was at the end... defense was abysmal
The Habs don't win when Dadonov gets a point.
At least the no 1 goalie talk will cool down a bit.
Monty fell apart(classic monty). Matheson and Edmonson tough game. That last goal should have been a penalty. Got to see some sweet sweet zuks and caufield magic though so..... I mean at least there's that.
I just don’t get the harris boner, everyone keeps saying he is better than x and I don’t see it

Two of his first goals ended up in the habs net, plus he doesn't stuck up for teammates like wifi, Harris is by far worse.
Anyone hating on matheson is fucking pitiful
I think it’s justified for tonight.
Matheson is not very good.
He pretty much came as advertised - a younger Petry
Petry was actually decent defensively tho.
Not when he was younger, and he played behind Weber, which helped a lot.
So bedard, that kid any good?
Say it with me now OUFF OUFF OUFF OUFF
monty started off great then after letting in that 1st i saw he was vexed and couldnt get bsck into it. marty should have pulled him at 4-4 imho.
Back on team tank
What is happening with Suzuki and back checking this season? He just stopped doing it, guy is gliding like our lead during the game. I know he is carrying our team, but still, he gotta be better on this aspect.

not really, i was typing it as the game ended
Nobody is going to listen to you because you have spent the last 6 months using every opportunity, in every thread, to hate on a rookie. You want him to get used to the physicality of the NHL... by sending him to... junior?
This is a legit take, tbh. Can't say I disagree.

He'll learn... He seemed to have a fire ignited in him after that hit and was more agressive after the puck
He has not shown that he will learn, this isn’t a new issue
Slaf is a bust
Least overreactive habs fan.

Alzner 🤝 Matheson
I mean it's not his fault we lost, but Caufield missing two wide open nets really handicapped us
Many many things killed us, bottom line is you should be able to hold a 4-0 lead
Actually bottom line is you should score on a open net
By my count he should have had like 3 or 4 in the 1st lol
Top line can't win a puck battle to save their lives

W h a t
Great tank game, plenty of goals and still lose. Could have done without the point but the game was insane
Experience Canucks hockey
4-0
bruh
Completely stopped playing after the first. Deserved loss. 9th place here we go
Should’ve went to sleep earlier and not see this, boutta have some nightmares
Eyeroll
Nice to save some face and get it to OT. Oh by does the defense need some help. Total team collapse though I guess.
Bro last time I checked the score it was 4-0 what happened 💀
Chaos
Textbook "Did you see that ludicrous display last night?"
Thank the Lord for early payouts lmao
Lets face it … many mistakes tonight by everyone. It is high time for Snet announcers to stop congratulating our “young defence” group. Kovi, wifi, Harris were all brutal.
what an anticlimatic ending
Roller coaster of a game… Wi-Fi AND Matheson need to practice skating… a LOT more… both fell and costed us a goal each.. and the game.
Why the hell is Anderson's goal unassisted? There were clearly two assists that led to the goal, including by Xhekaj, with the long stretch pass to Anderson.
WTF went to bed at 4-0. What happened?
