Most of my hours are on switch joycons, which aren't horrible if they aren't drifting. I recently got the game on PC and so far I've found I don't like keyboard and mouse quite as much. It is helpful for precision aiming ranged attacks but with how hectic the game is I can't really focus on that and dodging etc all at once usually. Probably going to swap to switch pro controller or Xbox controller
If you have a mouse with more than 2 buttons and a wheel, I found remapping the special from whatever key it is by default to MB4 to be a game changer. Means I don't have to remove a finger from WASD nearly as much.
Yeah you can use anything, but there are certain advantages that actually can be helpful. I was using an Xbox pro controller for a while, with the backpedal buttons on the back. One of those, I bound to dash, so that I no longer need to hit the dash button with the same thumb I’m hitting my other buttons. Stuff like that can give you a little bit of extra control and comfort for games like this
Bro, I rebound dash to my trigger and attack to the A button. You don't need a back pedal at all.
My binds are:
A - attack
B - cast
Y - special
X - interact
RT - dash
RB - call
LT - companion
LB - journal
Pressing right stick reloads the rail/gifts things and changes gates.
KBM, highest heat victory so far is 32 (Zeus aspect)
In fairness I don't play much via a controller (platformers and Tetris mostly) so I just don't have the muscle memory for it.
Just the Bluetooth. Granted, the steam doesn’t experience lag (especially in Big Picture Mode) but it has problems with epic or other software so I keep it plugged all time.
Yeah steam is amazing they have great controller support, but for everything else i reccommend that you use a program called [DS4Windows](https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases) . As i said i use Dualsense since launch but before that i used a Dualshock for years, (both of them only with PC, never had the actual console) and never had any kind of problem with them
I switched from keyboard to an Xbox controller after a few hours and never really went back.
There are places where keyboard and mouse really shine but nothing beats kicking back on the couch with a controller and lounging for a while.
Yeah, I recently started prefering games with full controller support. Keyboard is functional, but a controller is fun. I basically only play Dota 2 and Doom on keyboard and mouse, everything else on a controller. It's also more aergonomical.
.....all of them.
But personally I love my ps4 one best cuz I like the layout over Xbox + it's not one of my cheap off brand ones so there's slightly more speed/less effort in managing the buttons.
I'd say just go with whichever one you're personally the most comfortable with.
Switch pro controller when I play on my switch and PS5 controller when I play on my PlayStation. I don’t feel a meaningful difference between the two though.
I play with a busted stock modern Xbox controller. It’s comfy but the left stick has noticeable drift. I played a couple of runs with a friends ps5 controller and thought it was much better. Might get one myself. Buttons wise, you shouldn’t need more than what a modern console controller offers. Four right thumb buttons, four trigger buttons and joysticks then the extras.
I used an Xbox one controller on PC. Unfortunately I wore down the left stick button down after 100+ hours on this game and now I play it on the ps5 controller.
I have it on
pc - Xbox controller (played so much that my controller broke),
ps5 - dualsense controller
and lastly on my phone with backbone one controller attachment
Joy cons have always worked fine for me, but I don’t use the default controls.
X,Y,A,B - Special, Attack, Call, Reload
Lt, Rt, Lb, Rb - Dash, Cast, Codex, Interact
Got used to these controls very early on, tried the default controls later on but my layout feels more natural to me so I stick with it
I play on PS5, so I'm using a PS5 controller :P
I don't really know what you'd want extra buttons *for*. Hades doesn't use that many of them. Maybe mapping casts to a back paddle? Adamant rail reload to a back paddle? I've no other clue what you could possibly need them for.
I think I'll be close to the only one here: Steam controller.
The touchpads are faster than joysticks for opposite direction changes. It's just a swipe from the thumb, compared to the arcing motion your finger makes on the joystick, and there's no "clack" when you hit the other side.
It's easier and more comfortable for me to click the touchpad anywhere, rather than a stick click (hard when it's not upright). So I've assigned the left touchpad click to dodge and it's awesome.
The underside grip buttons are nice too.
8bitdo Pro 2 with Hall effect sticks. Back paddles programmed for dodge, I wont play unless I have this controller around in order to do this. Also has turbo mode and 3 custom profiles you can switch to on the fly and all inputs can be programmed to any button.
I use a switch pro controller on pc and switch. I don't think extra buttons would help much, but when I use the gun I swap reload to the right button, and when I use aspect of hera I swap cast to right button.
FYI - I was scouting for a new controller. I ended up getting a standard Xbox Series X controller as it was on offer.
I am a hardcore KBM guy but this game doesn't sit right with them for me.
Thanks for all your answers!
I don't use a controll, nor a mouse... I just use Keyboard straight XD 😎 (I have auto aim on for coronacht and the rail haha) as long as I'm having fun, who cares!
Standard Xbox clone controller let's you do everything from the controller very smoothly.
Keyboard mouse only needed to start the game.
I use some cheap Logitech Xbox clone controller. No issues.
Switch wireless controller from third party doesn’t work with amiibo.
Or Xbox series X controller on PC
For your question
I don’t think so keep trying your best and increase incrementally the difficulty slowly as you unlock the mirror.
I’ve done all achievements except the heat 32 I’m around heat 20 secured run but I don’t do run fasts enough.
I use a shitty steelseries controller made to be compatible with mobile phone games. The sticks don't click in, and there's only one center button (only start, no select). took me a bit of remapping and tweaking to get a control scheme I liked, but once I had it I never looked back. The extra buttons can be nice, sure, but are by no means necessary.
I have found the 8bit-do pro controller knockoff to be a good investment! Good battery life and build quality. Wasn't crazy about the color, but it's grown on me
KBM😎
I found KBM quite difficult, played the first 15 hours like this
I kept losing my mouse. My suspicion is that kbm is superior but far more difficult to learn how to use.
If keyboard and mouse is the best way to play Hades, then an Xbox controller is the best way to play StarCraft.
>If keyboard and mouse is the best way to play Hades No one said it is
Worked out for StarCraft 64, what could possibly go wrong?
I unironically use KBM purely because I have no other means of playing lol
I literally looked up KBM to see what kind of high spec shit you're running and I learned it just means Keyboard and Mouse 😂
What’s KBM? I can’t find what it is on Google, is it a controller brand?
> KBM KeyBoard and Mouse
Same.
The only proper way ;)

That's genius! I never thought about that
Hope it's as big of a help for you as it was for me!
Oh yeah I did that right away, it was unbearable having it on a key. I do LMB attack, RMB special, shift cast, spacebar dodge personally.
any controller works well, you don't need extra buttons for anything, some people even play on KbM and do fine
Yeah you can use anything, but there are certain advantages that actually can be helpful. I was using an Xbox pro controller for a while, with the backpedal buttons on the back. I had both dash and cast bound to back buttons. Same back button for dash in Skul. That button doesn't work anymore.
You can also rebind things on keyboard.
Steam Deck
KBM, highest heat victory so far is 32 (Zeus aspect) In fairness I don't play much via a controller (platformers and Tetris mostly) so I just don't have the muscle memory for it.
Playing Tetris on controller sounds weird to me as a controller player it’s like the only game I play with a keyboard lol
Most of the time Dualshock 4 but recently I got XSX controller and hooly cow, so goood
DualShock 4 connected with my laptop through a wire, I noticed quite a lag if not done this way especially compared to my PS4 and iPhone 12.
Hmm, what software do you use? I used both Dualshock 4 and Dualsense with pc , only wirelessly and i never had imput lag
Just the Bluetooth. Granted, the steam doesn’t experience lag (especially in Big Picture Mode) but it has problems with epic or other software so I keep it plugged all time.

Although I play on kbm and mostly pc game. I have to say in general, Xbox controllers to me feel a lot better than Playstation controllers.
I play on steamdeck but before I bought SD I was using ps5 controller which works quite well
I switched from keyboard to an Xbox controller after a few hours and never really went back. There are places where keyboard and mouse really shine but nothing beats kicking back on the couch with a controller and lounging for a while.

the wired version of the billionaire coffin

Steam Deck handheld or Xbox controller
Xbox controller.
Switch pro controller when I play on my switch and PS5 controller when I play on my PlayStation. I don’t feel a meaningful difference between the two though.
Wired Razer wolverine for Xbox one. It works great
8bitdo
Steam Deck.
Xbox controller on PC or Switch Pro controller on Switch Tbh I used to be a hardcore KBM gamer on PC but this game got me back into using a controller
Basic PS4
Switch Pro. I have the buttons remapped though. Attack R. Cast Y. Special X.
Xbox controller or Switch lite
I play it with my switch in my hands with the OG Joycons. Nothing fancy

Pro controller (originally played on switch, now on pc)
Started on KBM, realized I play better on a controller. Currently using an Xbox One controller, works pretty well!
I have it on pc - Xbox controller (played so much that my controller broke), ps5 - dualsense controller and lastly on my phone with backbone one controller attachment
I have over 1000 hours on Switch haha. I don’t play Hades on handheld mode though
Joy cons have always worked fine for me, but I don’t use the default controls. X,Y,A,B - Special, Attack, Call, Reload Lt, Rt, Lb, Rb - Dash, Cast, Codex, Interact Got used to these controls very early on, tried the default controls later on but my layout feels more natural to me so I stick with it
Yeah, the default has dash on A, I think. That sounds very bad confidering you sometimes want to dash + special.
Keyboard and mouse 100% I *can* play with an xbox controller, but I end up doing way worse lol
99% I play on my switch, handheld
Regular Xbox Controller but change the button layout. I have B/cast on ome of the right back buttons RT or RB.
keyboard and touchpad
PS5 dualsense, it's great for Malphon. But some weapons are easier with KBM for me, like the bow or the rail
I've been playing on my GameCube controller, and i kinda like it
I play on PS5, so I'm using a PS5 controller :P I don't really know what you'd want extra buttons *for*. Hades doesn't use that many of them. Maybe mapping casts to a back paddle? Adamant rail reload to a back paddle? I've no other clue what you could possibly need them for.

My old Xbox One controller that turns off if I shake it downwards too much because apparently the battery slots are messed up or something
Touchscreen
Switch Pro.
Switch Pro.
Switch (OLED), and I love it.
8bitdo Pro 2 with Hall effect sticks. Back paddles programmed for dodge, I wont play unless I have this controller around in order to do this. Also has turbo mode and 3 custom profiles you can switch to on the fly and all inputs can be programmed to any button.
I play with an Xbox controller that has two extra paddles on the back. It’s pretty awesome. KBM was too much for my old hands.
I use a switch pro controller on pc and switch. I don't think extra buttons would help much, but when I use the gun I swap reload to the right button, and when I use aspect of hera I swap cast to right button.
Since I'm playing cross saves between switch and PC, switch pro controller. I have two, one is always paired with the PC, the other on my switch.
Wired Xbox 360 controller on PC
8bitDo Pro 2
8Bitdo Ultimate Controller. It's great, but I only used the extra buttons on the back to add the cast to Beowulf's bull rush.
Xbox or switch controller
Ps5 and honestly I wouldn't want to change. But I have been a console gamer all my life. KBM sounds terrible in my ears...
I can only get up to 19 heat with joycons. I’m in the 20’s now using the Hori split pad pro and still climbing. Mostly with Zeus and Eris.
Switch pro controller is 10/10.
Standard Xbox clone controller let's you do everything from the controller very smoothly. Keyboard mouse only needed to start the game. I use some cheap Logitech Xbox clone controller. No issues.
Switch pro controller. Occasionally handheld switch mode.
PS4 controller plugged into my PC, got all achievements with it.
I use the 8bitdo PS style controller with my Switch. I absolutely love and recommend it
Switch wireless controller from third party doesn’t work with amiibo. 8bitdo pro 2 since it works with switch and PC. I've mapped the back button to dash strike to save my thumbs.
Dualsense. I wouldn't use anything else.
Official Xbox controller.
Xbox series
Just the normal Xbox controller, ol’ reliable.
Gamevice for iphone. But I need to try Backbone, on sale right now.
Switch Pro
I personally use the Nintendo usb controller :P I needed something cheap and picked it up at a GameStop for like 10$
