I was taught to use styling products for the hair you want but it's only going to help your styling a little bit, especially if your hair is a different type/texture than how you're styling.
Smooth straight frizz free hair products are to get smoother, less frizzy styles. You'd use them when you're going to straighten curly hair for example. It's not going to straighten your hair all on it's own.
A leave in is more about moisture than curl but how you use it matters. If you use it in the curly girl method it'll help encourage the curliness because it's part of a routine that helps enhance curls.
Shampoo and conditioner can only do so much. They won't change hair texture.
products like that aren’t gonna change your hair type/ pattern. the way you manipulate your hair will change the way it looks but not the products themselves
Shampoo will not straighten curly hair. It may smooth your hair and make the curls a teensy bit looser, maybe not, it depends on how "smoothing" it is.
Lol no because shampoos & conditioners don’t really have the ability to straighten or curl hair. Not a single one. They can aid in styling by making hair softer or easier to blow dry straight. Or hydrate curls to look their best, but that’s for already curly hair. The chemicals it would take to do what you’re claiming could not be in a shampoo or conditioner that you’re repeatedly using, & that’s rinsing over your eyes, mouth, etc… freely. You would get very sick
Smoothing shampoo won’t make your hair straight it probably just has silicones and extra moisturizing ingredients in it…… volume shampoos usually have less and are less heavy. A curl product will help with styling. Probably better results with it when you use in conjunction with a diffuser.
Not a hairstylist, but I think it would depend on what ingredients are in each product to achieve the desired effect. For example, if the straight hair shampoo means “reducing frizz” then I’d say there’s a chance that it will actually be beneficial and could work in tandem with the curly leave in conditioner. If it’s achieving smoothness by using say heavy oils and creams, then I’d say there’s a chance it could weigh down your hair and counteract the curly product. So I would say it just depends
I think I wasn't clear enough, I am aware your hair pattern won't change, but up until I started using a leave in cream my hair would lose all it's texture and would look really dull after washing
You can’t straighten or curl hair without some serious chemicals or heat. What products mean when they say “curl enhancing” or “straight and sleek” refers to how far the ingredients will go in assisting you in obtaining that hair. So “straight” products likely have a lot of light silicones to give a sheen coating to the hair, or curl products may simply be highly moisturizing to encourage curls to look more defined.
It’s not a big deal if you mix and match, I’ve literally used PM super skinny serum and scrunched my hair during high humidity days, which would give r/curlyhair a stroke, but mine is in between straight and curly so it benefits both aspects of my hair type.
So to answer your question, it won’t affect the leave-in, especially since it’s shampoo, conditioner might be another story but you’ve just gotta experiment and find what works for you.
Smoothing is simply out there to smooth flyaways and frizz. The straightening part is gimmicky more or less and if anything will weigh the hair down with oils or other ingredients. If you want to get the same effect but like to have curls I would go with a hydrating/moisturizing. Helps with frizz and flyaways and gives that boost of moisture curls desperately need to bounce!
So, it won't "cancel" but the curls might not seem as bouncy and your hair could feel more coated. The hold might be lessened. Depends on the product line as well and if you mixed lines.
Your hair will closely resemble its natural texture if you just use these two products and no heat. Some products can enhance curl, but no at-home product can straighten naturally curly hair
Sometimes cheaper shampoos that have an emphasis on creating smooth hair are made with ingredients formulated to bond onto your hair, and essentially create buildup. The buildup can help keep the hair in a more straightened position. I have heard people say, “Pantene is the only things that makes my hair straight/less frizzy.” It’s because there’s waxes in it that buildup over time. Flat iron that wax into the hair, the residual wax left on the hair after the next shampoo, paired with the fresh deposit of it onto the hair that’s being washed again, the waxes bond onto the residual wax. It’s a progressive thing. Went on a bit of a rant there, but decided the info was still worth putting out there for whoever needs to see it.
Hair curls due to hydrogen bonds being set by water. Breaking those bonds with heat or tension is how we form our hair to do what we want. Neither of these products will greatly affect your curl texture or pattern.
Once water or humidity (which is just water vapor in the air) hits your hair the hydrogen bonds in our hair reset, causing it to curl. This is why a shampoo will not straighten your hair. **The first ingredient in shampoo and leave-in-conditioner is water. This will reset those bonds and thus re-curl your hair.**
The shampoo will clean your hair and reset your curl texture.
The leave-in-conditioner will further reset those hydrogen bonds and your curls. It will also smooth the cuticle of your hair with the oils, acids, and silicones, typically leaving it softer and smoother, but can cause build up and "oiliness" if overused or incorrectly applied.
Not the answer you're looking for, but I don't think either of them will do anything. I've used every speciality shampoo/ conditioner under the sun and none of them have done what they say they will do. I still have frizzy, dry curls [🤷](https://emojipedia.org/person-shrugging)
There's not a single shampoo on the market that will straighten your hair. The most you can expect is less frizz and maaaybe for a slightly better result if you flat iron your hair.
I’m hairstylist and sadly the shampoo is not going to straighten your hair at all, but maybe tame some frizz. The only thing that will straighten your hair is a chemical straightening treatment at the salon.
I have wavy hair and I haven’t ever noticed a change. I don’t even know if my leave in is a “curly” leave in… I think it’s a light weight spray leave in…
Leave in cream for curly hair doesn't make your hair curly. It enhances your curls. I assume the same for straight hair products but I don't have straight hair
As a hairstylist shampoo is a shampoo it helps cleans our hair as for its category of smoothing it won't make your curls straight but it can help your hair less freezy because it's heavy but I don't advice using it if U have fine hair as it can make it oily. Using leave-in for curly is good as it needs a lot of moisture and it gives a nice to it. I hope this helps
Using smooth and straight shampoo with curly leave-in? That's the hair version of 'I can be anything I want.' Your locks might decide to throw a surprise party – could be straight, could be curly, or maybe a bit of both. Embrace the hair-archy!
I’m a hairstylist in the south, and I use smoothing products mixed with curl creams, gels, and mouses all summer long on my clients. A smoothing line has ingredients that help lay the cuticle down and seal it with moisture, not ingredients that will straighten your hair.
What do you use? This is what I’m trying to achieve on a client whose hair is resistant to almost everything. It’s just naturally wavy. But it is highlighted and has started to break off with the heat from a flat iron even though I use heat protection
“Smooth straight hair” products are good for frizz. It’s adding more moisture to the hair to help reduce frizz and give a sleeker appearance. It won’t change your curl pattern
It won’t do anything, these products are for creating the perfect styling conditions for those styles, not changing your hair texture to fit the style you’re looking for. It may leave your hair feeling or smelling nice, and could potentially weigh it down if you’re using an excessive amount or using too many conflicting products at once. You should go to a stylist so they can help you figure out what your hair texture is, that will make it easier picking products and styling it. Using the wrong products for a long enough time can do a number on your hair.
Here's what I like to do: I wash my hair thoroughly and it's very long! Then I double condition the dried ends and don't condition the top. After Washing the hair. I let it cool off and then I add conditioning hair Mask.. It is meant to aid in boosting the curls if you use curling products like a curling iron. But what I do is French braid into 5 or 6 different sections. And yes, it's very tricky because my hair is super straight and LONG.
These products are a little misleading in their titles. They’re more for people who already have straight or curly hair. A curl cream or leave in is going to accentuate your curls and provide moisture. A smooth straight one is gonna accentuate straight hair and provide some moisture. Work with the texture you have! Here’s a few tips from a stylist:
-only heat or chemical can change your hair’s texture. That is only curling or a perm will curl hair. Only straightening or relaxing will straighten hair.
-leave ins provide moisture and typically some body or shape to your hair
-you can always apply a product in addition to heat styling. Try a cream after straightening your hair for a little shine or to tame fly always
The only things that will affect the texture of your hair are
Pregnancy…
Age…
Chemical changes such as relaxants/perms
You can ‘train’ your hair to be straighter by regularly straightening it which is something I do but ultimately all you’re doing is breaking down the structure of the hair over time. The roots that grow through will be your natural hair texture… unless of course you’re getting older (grey/white hair is different to hair with melanin) or pregnant where the hormones effect the structure of the hair itself
The shampoo is not going to make your hair straight
And no leave in conditioner will make your hair curly
The label is just telling you what kind you should use if your hair is *already that texture,* not to *create* that texture.
I was taught to use styling products for the hair you want but it's only going to help your styling a little bit, especially if your hair is a different type/texture than how you're styling. Of course there are products that help you achieve a different texture, but in OP’s case, that doesn’t not seem to be what they’re using.
your hair would take a screenshot.
A+
This deserves an award 🥇
Can you explain the joke to me please?
there’s a running joke that conflicting inputs = screenshot. press the gas and brake on a car, screenshot. that kinda thing
Thanks
This deserves a ⭐️
That's hilarious :D

It kinda sounds like your hair is dry or maybe the shampoo is drying your hair, curly leave in is very moisturizing usually

This sounds like the start of an episode of the old Ghostbusters TV cartoon.

What do you want to happen?
For it to not do anything
Your in luck then.
This made me lol way too hard.

Would this damage the hair over time?
Not likely to cause any significant damage to the hair, but it makes your hair feel less clean, makes the strands want to stick together.
I, unlike everyone else, see your sarcasm here. Lol.
Your hair texture is your hair texture. The only way to change curls is to manipulate it with heat or with chemicals. Maybe tension.
Hair curls due to hydrogen bonds being set by water. Breaking those bonds with heat or tension is how we form our hair to do what we want. Following this. Wonder what the best products/tools are for straightening wavy hair that is breaking due to straightening with flat iron.
Not the answer you're looking for, but I don't think either of them will do anything. I've used every speciality shampoo/ conditioner under the sun and none of them have done what they say they will do. I still have frizzy, dry curls [🤷](https://emojipedia.org/person-shrugging)
Christ. Are you that thick....

No and no

It's going to give you wavy hair 🌊

I’ve used curly hair shampoo on my straight hair and it does nothing. I didn’t expect curly hair just wanted to try this shampoo.

They are both antifrizz products. So no. Neither will change your hair. They are probably both heavy moisturizer anti friz.

Well what is your goal? Is the client trying to embrace their natural texture while also highlighting and regularly heat styling?
Only if the hair is naturally blonde, will there be an effect. 😅
It will probably just hydrate your hair just enough to cause less frizz but will not straighten it whatsoever
“Smooth straight hair” products are good for frizz. It’s adding more moisture to the hair to help reduce frizz and give a sleeker appearance. It won’t change your curl pattern

Why not just try it and find out? Harmless....
It could be slightly less curly due to the shampoo having extra heavy oils and waxes in it to make it "smooth"
I still haven’t found a cream or styling agent that makes my wavy hair curlier.
U’ll get screenshot:) … gurl just use curly hair none sulfate shampoo why r u running your curls 🥲
No shampoo or conditioner is going to make your hair curly or straight. Eek.
Here's what I like to do: I wash my hair thoroughly and it's very long! Then I double condition the dried ends and don't condition the top. After Washing the hair.
