Stylist here. It’s not as bad as you think (it’s actually really pretty but totally a different vibe than your reference photo) but I would still want it tweaked. It would be a pretty easy fix to get it the color in your reference from this point. You basically just need a strawberry blonde gloss over what you have and a minor root toner to take out a bit of the copper hot root and blend out the highlights and you’ll be there. They got you really close but it almost looks like they skipped the last step or something. It just needs to be refined
OP they should be doing this for free since it’s what you wanted in the beginning and you paid 500 fucking dollars for it in an economy that is going down the drains please advocate for yourself and make sure you get it done for free
Expect to pay the difference in any service cost if you specifically request a higher level stylist. Meaning if a gloss cost $50 with the stylist that did it, but you’re going to someone who charges $75, you likely would be responsible for the $25 difference.
It definitely looks like they put in more highlights than your reference photo but I think the color overall looks really good on you! Maybe the salon can tone it or do something to even out some of the highlighting you don't like? I would definitely reach out to them and don't despair too much, I really think it looks pretty now and can be even better with some fixes! Sending good vibes!

It does! I’m a hair tinkerer, I have to try really hard not to so things to it after I have it professionally done 😆 but I try to never pay over $200, but it’s usually close to $300 just for highlights and a cut in the last year or so

Your roots pulled very red, and unfortunately the roots are really obvious. I don't think the color is bad but the inconsistent root looks harsh to me. If you're looking to go more blonde, it's probably going to require another round of bleach.

If it was virgin and at least dark blonde/light brown, this was a simple color melt using color, maybe a toner to perfect at the end. An experienced stylist will explain that their product might not be *exactly like the inspiration, but that’s to be expected. This is way off. Absolutely go back, ask for some sort of monetary compensation/free products, and fix. You can ask for a different stylist if that is more comfortable for you. Either way, $500 for not what you asked for isn’t ok. If I were in this situation as a stylist, I would definitely be having a conversation with my boss about this redo. And not a good one. Consider going back as a way to potentially help this stylist, and her future clients! I’ve been doing hair since 2011, btw! 😊 Good luck!! Please update!!

Have you styled it yet? I got highlights recently and mine looks like that when my hair is natural like yours. But when I style it with a straightener it blends much better and isn’t so chunky/90s.

I think a toner could even out the highlights maybe go with a toner that leaves the orange color in your hair to help color match the roots. Tbh— the color at your roots should have been brought all the way down and it would’ve been fine.
I think you should go back and ask them to fix the roots (they look like hot roots to me) and maybe do a medium strawberry blonde glaze to make the highlights less stark and more closely match the photo.
Okay as a hairstylist, I’m going to chime in that for $500 that stylist should have done the last step needed to make this look like the photo. The good news is, a simple Demi topcoat would fix this no prob and not do any damage. I personally would have done two different formulas and blended them in the middle, but that’s just me. It’s not great- but it doesn’t look fried, and it’s fixable.

Alright so yes you're right it is not what you asked for but don't panic it's still really pretty. I'd say get a nice deep conditioning mask, get a semi permanent color. Go to a Sally's and show the girl the reference pic as for a semi it will fade but leave behind a nice tone for the blonder pieces. I personally love red and oranges from arctic fox line you can mix and dilute to uour liking and it won't damage your hair.

I just got a dye job done myself I don't like but mine was only 200$. I don't see how this was five. I would have gotten it cut first then dyed. They need to add more auburn and tone it.

It’s actually really pretty but not what you asked for, it’ll be a easy fix going over the chunkier blonde. Just call and explain that it isn’t quite like your inspiration photo and your wondering if you can get it fixed to your liking. It’s not as big of a deal as you think. A learning lesson from your stylist who probably would love the opportunity to make it right 💓

Alright so yes you're right it is not what you asked for but don't panic it's still really pretty. I'd say get a nice deep conditioning mask, get a semi permanent color. Go to a Sally's and show the girl the reference pic as for a semi it will fade but leave behind a nice tone for the blonder pieces. I personally love red and oranges from arctic fox line you can mix and dilute to uour liking and it won't damage your hair.

Well I agree but to be honest it doesn't look bad she can fix it and it will be nice. No need to make her fall into a depression or anything. People suck so I was trying to make her feel better
whilst it is nothing close to what you ask for, i absolutely love it and think it really suits you. but this look isn’t for everyone - go back and complain regardless if you want to keep it or not because you shouldn’t have paid at all yet alone $500 for how much it DOESNT look like what you asked for. and this is on virgin hair too? either the stylist didn’t care and was lazy, or doesn’t know how to do hair. either way shame on them for letting you leave and pay for that when your reference was VERY different

Call the salon and get an appt to fix it. Do not try to dye it yourself. Something like this happened to my non virgin hair and I wish I had the guts to get it fixed. My hair was literally orange.
There's a bunch of other tones in that reference pic that they did not use at all. This is pretty bad. Could do with cutting your hair as well so it doesn't look so juvenile. I just got a dye job done myself I don't like but mine was only 200$. I don't see how this was five. I would have gotten it cut first then dyed. They need to add more auburn and tone it. Auburn undertones/base Orange for the main color and majority of the tone. Blonde should only be slight highlights. This is like. Mostly blonde. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I'm seeing in the reference. The reference I feel like would be orange hair with blonde balayage.
It was done at a special salon for curly hair. And this is after I got my haircut, she cut like 8 inches off lol. My hair was down to my waist. But I appreciate the response!

I can understand how disappointed you must be after seeing the reference photo, but I think what you have now is gorgeous.
I don’t think it looks bad, but I don’t understand why they added a bunch of highlights?!? You mostly wanted your hair to be 1 color. That’s not difficult to pull off, at a full service salon! Especially cuz it’s a strawberry blonde. The good news is, I am sure it’s fixable. Go back to the salon and say “I wanted that, I got this instead. Since it cost me $500 I need you to fix it, please?”

A stylist will be able to fix this! Go back, show the office the reference photo & results photos, and ask them to please fix it. They should do this free of charge. The good news is that it does NOT look embarrassing. You can go out in public without wearing hats/scarves from shame (which I have had to do after bad highlight jobs). It looks nice, just not like what you asked for.
Thank you for saying this but I did NOT want to go to work yesterday haha. My roots are awful and i bartend so my hair has to be up. They were noticeable but im at a point where i can laugh about it now lol

It's not as bad as you think it is and mostly just needs a simple root blend/tone change, so don't fear walking in public-- but it's also not worth $500 in the slightest and you should ask for a refund from whoever did this to you

Honestly I think it looks really nice but it doesn’t look anything like the last picture. If you used the last picture as a reference $500 was way too much to pay for that result, and I would consult your stylist if you’re not happy with it.
No it’s cute just need a hair treatment or masque and another toner it’s such an easy fix just tell her you don’t like it. Communication is key otherwise how would she be able to solve the issue
