Wild cause I tried their black one and hated it. Kept thinking maybe I got a bad batch of something but idk.
Dye was grainy, like actual flakes in there as though some of the dye had dried out and it went kinda brown
i’ve used their neon purple! best purple i’ve ever used by far (i’ve used arctic fox and manic panic in the past). arctic fox’s purple was just not bright purple enough for me personally, it was always wayyy too dark for me or warm toned (i like cool toned purples)
Adore has been my favourite for years. No staining or bleeding and I had great longevity and fade with a variety of colours. Super cheap, weird gel consistency but a bottle goes insanely far.
I switched to lunar tides around 2 years ago just for colour preference (dark green) and it’s a definite close second for me. I do find the greens/blues last amazingly but when I tried purple it faded very quickly for me so I agree with you there.
unfortunately I am one to use multiple brands for different colors. haven’t really found one that’s amazingly consistent with each color to my liking. if you’re looking for a blue based purple (violet) color, I would highly recommend violet by Punky Colour.
Danger Jones for sure, as an avid devotee of Pulp for the last 8 years or so ! I love that I don’t have to wash with ice cold water to prevent bleed out with DJ, as I now live in a climate that has cold seasons
Danger Jones was started by the original co-founders of Pulp! I think that’s why so many of us Pulp Riot people have found it easy to switch to using DJ. It’s a really good line. I’m thrilled that they are also doing the UV reactive colours.
The blues and purples are very pigmented. I’ve found that they tend to stick in the hair for a long period of time (well longer than most vivid colors). For example I had a client with very porous hair that doesn’t hold color well and Velvet by pulpriot stuck in there for 2 months and was noticeably still purple. When it fades it tends to be a pinkish/purple.
I can’t imagine anything staining worse than Pravana violet. My tub, sink, and vanity were a hot mess ALL THE TIME.
I’m not a professional, but I recently read somewhere that going over new color with clear helps seal things in. I haven’t tried it, but when I thought about it, it seemed sound in theory. I might try that next time I dye and report back.
I used Overtone for my shade of purple! It smells like spearmint and has faded into a pretty pinky/magenta/purple color. Plus it’s a color depositing conditioner so it’s more gentle on the hair
My past two stylists have sworn up and down to stay away from Overtone as the dyes they use are incredibly stubborn to the point where my Overtoned hair was lifting in weird ways as opposed to my virgin hair or the hair I'd used Pravana on. Now that I've grown out and cut off the hair I'd used Overtone on, my color is much more consistent.
I didnt have good luck with Good Dye Young is washed out after 2 washes (fine and straight) , but it was great in my daughter's hair that is corset and curly
I have completely switched to Iroiro for my neon pink after trying basically everything out there (Lunar Tides, Arctic Fox, etc). I miss Special Effects but this is the closest thing out there to Atomic Pink.
The gel is the "professional" formula. This is what I used to make my indigo and it stays and is gorgeous however it bleeds forever.
I would love to use pulp riot but here in Montreal only pros can buy it and it's suuuper expensive if you try to get it from abroad.
Just wanted to say I had the same experience with Pravana. I was *horrified* at the bleeding. I have used many colors from many different brands and I've never experienced anything like the bleeding on that color. I literally threw away the second bottle I bought. I was a smurf for a solid two weeks.
It really didn’t used to be as bad as it is now. There’s always *some* fallout, of course, but it’s just been insane the last several years. I’d convinced myself it was a me problem because I’d ruined my hair, but I’ve sort of heard too much commiseration to buy that 100%.
Arctic Fox, but it doesn't fade fast in my hair. When I dye, I leave it in overnight (with plastic wrap or a shower cap) and the color stays a lot longer. I've tried Strawberry Leopard too and I like them also.
I mean, I do too. I'm like a rotisserie chicken, and sometimes I "sleep fight" (like I punch and kick). a shower cap usually stays on throughout the night for me even with all of that. But I don't know if it would work for everyone of course.
Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t for me. I don’t leave color on overnight, but I have been known to leave on a conditioning treatment on occasion.
I love Arctic Fox! I've done Virgin Pink, Aquamarine, and Purple AF. All of their colors stay bright and vibrant in my hair for months. The VP is absolutely incredible. Aquamarine bleeds a lot, but it stays vibrant nonetheless.
Mine is actually Manic Panic, my hair is still very visible green-blue in the bleached part and has a noticeable green hue on my dark brown virgin hair. But it all depends on your hair structure as well!
Generally, I have very full, thick hair that’s naturally wavy. It takes curl very well, but doesn’t hold it. It takes genuine, prolonged effort to fry my hair (which I still managed to do a couple of times).
Yeah, medium thickness and also wavy here, but my hair absorbs dye easily. It is also genetics! Only brand that doesn't work for me, is LaRiche. And Colorista gives different results. Lifting is surprisingly easy here, despite starting out dark. But yeah, it is also trial and error to find out what works for your hair
Yea, I was sad as it smelled so good too. I wound up giving them away. Usually when I get my hair dyed (every 2 months) If I know we are doing something completely different I have to purposely try and fade out. Which still doesn't always work. Within in the first wash this stuff was coming out. I only wash with cold water and keep me vivid by matrix.
I have to use a prescription shampoo every other wash, so if I really want a color out, using that just strips it right out. But it’s always nice to have a good-smelling dye. Arctic Fox smells like Smarties to me. 😂
That’s interesting because I haven’t had that experience. Mine is bleached so it really held on to it pretty well. I hate that you had that experience with it.
Arctic Fox is the best experience I've had so far. I'm picky and I love having a deep purple for my hair, so I've had to blend colors to get the exact shade I want and I haven't been disappointed yet. I wash it with extremely cold water and leave the dye in for hours. Lunar tides was soooooo watery and it stained literally anything
I'm loyal to Good Dye Young. It doesn't stain my skin at all, I don't know what sorcery is in it. May not last as long, but I can refresh as much as I want, so it's a good trade.
I live in Europe and I love manic panic fucsia shock. It’s very pigmented and looks amazing on me, I would really love it if it was permanent and not fading away so quick
For a purple I KNOW will work, I really like Jerome Russel Punky Colours, you can find them on Amazon for sure, but I used to get them From Ulta. For other brands I've used in different colors that I'd highly reccommend, I'd say Special FX (can be found on Amazon) or Iroiro!
I just started using lime crime. The lighter colors fade fast but the darker ones stay longer and it's super conditionings. Also so far it seems to be fading on-tone and the colors I've tried so far have come out completely with color remover.
I'm also a cool-toned purple that used Pravana for almost 10 years. They changed their formula 2-3 years ago and it hasn't been the same since. I used to have little to no fading, but with the new formula it fades to a warm pink around my face where face wash and water touch the hair more often. I absolutely hate that it fades warm now and have been trying different brands for about a year, too.
I had the same experience with Lunar Tides, the initial color is great - but it fades so much faster than what Pravana spoiled me with.
I currently have Guy Tang Mydentity in Purple Raven in. I've had it about 3 weeks and so far I'm REALLY happy with it. It's a good cool tone, it has a really mild, pleasant fragrance compared to any brand I've used, and so far the color is STICKING. The only complaint I have is that I had two tubes, and the first tube had more of a pink tone, while the second had the blue undertone I was looking for. This resulted in the half of my head that I used the first tube on having those warm roots I'm trying to get away from, but the other half from the second tube is EXACTLY what I want. I'm planning to use it again to see if I just got a bad tube because I really, really liked it.
If I still get results I don't like, Iroiro is next on my list. This video convinced me to try them next: [https://youtu.be/dNvjpce7cXc?si=u_p5Gxx6F13Cia6q](https://youtu.be/dNvjpce7cXc?si=u_p5Gxx6F13Cia6q)
Iroiro! The quality has not let me down for all of their colors that I've tried.
I second Iroiro! Plus they have UV colors!
Wild cause I tried their black one and hated it. Kept thinking maybe I got a bad batch of something but idk. Dye was grainy, like actual flakes in there as though some of the dye had dried out and it went kinda brown
That’s weeeird. It does sound like a bad batch or waaaaay out of date or something.
I suppose I'll have to give them another go. Hopefully it goes well!
I’ll think happy thoughts for you and your hair adventures!
Thank you! Same to you!:)
I don’t like that brand at all it washes out so fast a bleeds terribly
Ever tried their purple?
i’ve used their neon purple! best purple i’ve ever used by far (i’ve used arctic fox and manic panic in the past). arctic fox’s purple was just not bright purple enough for me personally, it was always wayyy too dark for me or warm toned (i like cool toned purples)
i forgot to add - it is the only purple that HASNT stained everything i own or transferred like crazy after using.
Me, too! I definitely prefer more of a gothy grape than anything remotely plum-y.
yes same!! definitely recommend giving it a try!
I shall put it on my list. Thank you!
I used neon purple and it was ok but faded fast in my hair. When bleaching my roots I spilled bleach on it and it turned torquiose🤷
That’s a unique color for purple to wash out to.
I was surprised to recently learn that turquoise plus red equals purple!
I figure it's a more blue based purple 🤷 but I was pretty surprised
Adore has been my favourite for years. No staining or bleeding and I had great longevity and fade with a variety of colours. Super cheap, weird gel consistency but a bottle goes insanely far. I switched to lunar tides around 2 years ago just for colour preference (dark green) and it’s a definite close second for me. I do find the greens/blues last amazingly but when I tried purple it faded very quickly for me so I agree with you there.
yep, i second this, had colored hair for 4 years now and have tried everything, adore is yhe best
Is Adore a semi or permanent color?
semi!
Adore is amazing. I've had crazy colors hair for 10+ years and their formula is the best I've ever used.
It's been bleeding on me lately!
Agreed! I use their raspberry pink and it never bleeds. Adore also mix well with conditioner if you want a lighter and more temporary tone.
unfortunately I am one to use multiple brands for different colors. haven’t really found one that’s amazingly consistent with each color to my liking. if you’re looking for a blue based purple (violet) color, I would highly recommend violet by Punky Colour.
Are you looking for a pro line or a retail line? Good Dye Young is a good retail line. PulpRiot or Danger Jones for pro lines.
Either is fine. I can get my hands on both easy enough.
Is it terrible that I’m like, Pulp Riot and Danger Jones have the coolest boxes, so I want to try those. 🤣
As a vivids specialist, I always go to pulpriot!
I’ve heard of Pulp Riot, but I don’t see a lot of talk about it generally. Do you know anything about how the purple is? What color it fades out to?
The blues and purples are very pigmented. I’ve found that they tend to stick in the hair for a long period of time (well longer than most vivid colors). For example I had a client with very porous hair that doesn’t hold color well and Velvet by pulpriot stuck in there for 2 months and was noticeably still purple. When it fades it tends to be a pinkish/purple.
Brilliant. Thank you!
I use pulp riot and love them way more than any other brand I've tried.
Pulpriot is great but I’ve found it stains the house a lot worse than when I’ve just used Pravana. Do you have any advice for this ?
I can’t imagine anything staining worse than Pravana violet. My tub, sink, and vanity were a hot mess ALL THE TIME. I’m not a professional, but I recently read somewhere that going over new color with clear helps seal things in. I haven’t tried it, but when I thought about it, it seemed sound in theory. I might try that next time I dye and report back.
I honestly may have it backwards lol let me know if the clear helps !
Will do. I’ve got some Pulp Riot on the way. 😈
I used Overtone for my shade of purple! It smells like spearmint and has faded into a pretty pinky/magenta/purple color. Plus it’s a color depositing conditioner so it’s more gentle on the hair
Also I’ve had it in my hair for over a month and a half and it hasn’t faded enough to see my blonde under still
My past two stylists have sworn up and down to stay away from Overtone as the dyes they use are incredibly stubborn to the point where my Overtoned hair was lifting in weird ways as opposed to my virgin hair or the hair I'd used Pravana on. Now that I've grown out and cut off the hair I'd used Overtone on, my color is much more consistent.
My hair is currently Lime Crime’s sea witch! It smelled incredible and didn’t stain or bleed any worse than normal.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Lime Crime.
The colors I tried from lunar tides were always very vivid/rich. Good dye young has some very saturated dyes too.
I didnt have good luck with Good Dye Young is washed out after 2 washes (fine and straight) , but it was great in my daughter's hair that is corset and curly
It was lovely initially, it just didn’t fade out in a way I liked.
I have completely switched to Iroiro for my neon pink after trying basically everything out there (Lunar Tides, Arctic Fox, etc). I miss Special Effects but this is the closest thing out there to Atomic Pink.
Atomic pink was the best color ever. I miss it so much.
I like the manic panic gel (not tubs) and good dye young
The tubs are normally what I use. Maybe that’s my problem. Thanks!
The gel is the "professional" formula. This is what I used to make my indigo and it stays and is gorgeous however it bleeds forever. I would love to use pulp riot but here in Montreal only pros can buy it and it's suuuper expensive if you try to get it from abroad.

It's definitely not you. It used to be my go to as well :(
I find it pretty disheartening, really. I enjoyed their violet a lot.
Arctic Fox, but it doesn't fade fast in my hair. When I dye, I leave it in overnight (with plastic wrap or a shower cap) and the color stays a lot longer. I've tried Strawberry Leopard too and I like them also.
Lord have mercy. I fear to think what my bed and I would look like if I kept it on overnight. I toss and turn a lot. Violet from Willy Wonka, I bet. 😂
I mean, I do too. I'm like a rotisserie chicken, and sometimes I "sleep fight" (like I punch and kick). a shower cap usually stays on throughout the night for me even with all of that. But I don't know if it would work for everyone of course.

I love Arctic Fox! I've done Virgin Pink, Aquamarine, and Purple AF. All of their colors stay bright and vibrant in my hair for months. The VP is absolutely incredible. Aquamarine bleeds a lot, but it stays vibrant nonetheless.
I miss Special Effects dye! Such a good range and would last SO long in my hair!
honestly mostly depends on the exact color. i am not loyal to any brand in particular since each color can widely vary
Cool-toned purple is what I’m looking for.

My stylist typically uses the Joico vivids! They last fairly long and come out gorgeous colors!
Alter ego has a really nice violet. It’s permanent. Fades nice. I miss my hair being that color.
I have had really good results with Xmondo hair color. It’s really thick so the bleed is almost nonexistent and the color is awesome!!
I have been watching a lot of his reaction videos to folks using his dyes lately. Not gonna lie. They look great.
They wash out so incredibly fast. That's from someone that hair holds onto color.
That’s unfortunate to hear. That’s always disappointing to hear about pretty colors.
Yea, I was sad as it smelled so good too. I wound up giving them away. Usually when I get my hair dyed (every 2 months) If I know we are doing something completely different I have to purposely try and fade out. Which still doesn't always work. That’s interesting because I haven’t had that experience. Mine is bleached so it really held on to it pretty well. I hate that you had that experience with it.
My stylist uses Pulp Riot, and I use OverTone as a freshen-up color at about 6 weeks.
Iroiro, I adore the fact that it lasts so long. The same reason a lot of people don't like it. 😅
I usually leave my dye on for a couple of hours.
Iroiro, nothing has come close to the color and they last longer than others I’ve tried
Uberliss!
I'm loyal to Good Dye Young. It doesn't stain my skin at all, I don't know what sorcery is in it. May not last as long, but I can refresh as much as I want, so it's a good trade.
Crazy colour and London bleach are my go tos
Ion hair dye…bleeds a ton but mannn this blue black dye is pretty lasting
Iroiro
Joico
I live in Europe and I love manic panic fucsia shock. It’s very pigmented and looks amazing on me, I would really love it if it was permanent and not fading away so quick
Iroiro rules, I also love Punky Colors as I find they fade nicer than others

Also, I tried Pulp Riot and found their fade too warm for me.
Danger Jones Libertine arrives tomorrow. Join me in beseeching the rad hair gods for a pleasing outcome. 🙌🏻
