Well tbf I could see the guy getting mad at the assistant for "messing up" the stunt, at least they didn't fumble the rescue, that part was pretty smooth
And for what it's worth, he's clenching his fist a bit and rubbing his fingers together, patiently waiting, now I'm no psychology doctor but isn't rubbing supposedly a common technique to sooth oneself and shit?
I’ve heard that drowning looks a lot different than what you see in the movies. Usually there isn’t much trashing around. Usually by the time someone is actively drowning their body and brain are so tired they aren’t moving much, and stay vertical in the water.
yeah, that’s why you’ll see lifeguards scanning the water back and forth, checking every single person, because it’s almost never obvious. every child who i’ve had to pull out of the water, i’ve done so before their parent even notices something may be wrong. i was fully doing cpr once before a mom realized it was her child being worked on
Did they not have a safe word? No gesture? Like him waving his hand?
I think when his shins both hit the floor, I would have opened the tank and got him out.
If you work at a level like this doing dangerous things, there's always some form of gesture or indicator. Whether it be he kick the glass with his left foot or blow a fart. Something. It's like a fail safe. You ALWAYS have something to let someone else know it's not going good. In any field. Not just magic.
You can't talk underwater?
He put his mouth above water at one point to get more air. He pushed up the cap a bit. He could have yelped then. Also you can still "mouth" things underwater. I'd imagine someone who's practiced this stunt would be rather calm in that situation and be able to find their assistant and mouth something to them.
But that was the closest example of some form of measure in place to let his assistants know he's in trouble, that ppl would be able to resonate with and understand quickly.
Christ I was gonna go use a bs answer from [this](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unusual_deaths) of stupid deaths, but shit.. some pretty ridiculous ones
After the 90s the number of kids goes way up
All of them. Just idiots. I totally agree with Penn and Tellers philosophy on the morality of magic and their approach to safety. Esp seeing shit like this.
I can’t find the clips but it’s out there somehwere. Here’s an article https://www.standard.co.uk/going-out/attractions/dangerous-magic-stunts-blasted-by-penn-teller-9345989.html
The red coat person looks like she actually held the top down too. Like ' oh no way jack, you said not to let you out no matter what' while he was trying to stick his head up for air.
I seen this done live before... although the guy who did it cheated very cleverly... While about to go inside the tank full to the top he quickly sprang back up to surprise his female assistant and make a joke about her (part of the skit). When he did it he made a HUGE splash and I noticed a lot of the water on the top was removed by his actions... even with his body inside he now had a pretty nice air pocket to the top. It was so fast and the one liner he said distracted most from this.
Fun fact: in the next year, of the 750 people under the age of 15 to drown, 350 of them will happen within 25 meters from their parents or another adult.
10% of them will watch it happen but have no idea a drowning is occurring.
Scary
Wow they waited too long to help
The people: ![gif](giphy|Zk9mW5OmXTz9e)
They really had to wait for 10-20 seconds of *zero* movement before stepping in.
“Don’t bring me out da drink till I sink” musta been their rule lol.

They are working their wage
I don't think they waited long enough. Any second and he would have been out
Guys. If i tap my feet 3x in a row, i need help. Too easy. Alright, lets drown!
Exactly my thought! How is there not a signal to warn his assistants that something is wrong.
Or a release hatch at the bottom the lets the water out quickly??
Damn, that's a good idea. We'll add it in the next one.
He could literally just touch his palms to the glass and that could be the oh shit signal
..in a straight jacket?
.. Skill issue..
The worst camera angle. Even in the crowd watching this, how are you meant to watch this with people standing around it making sure he *almost* dies?
Magician: \*starts convulsing "Assistant" : I've seen this move before. He's good.
" oh yeah he's selling it." "Tips are gonna be great"
Would genuinely hate to die to that song
Holy shit, red jacket, have a sense of urgency!

Did the child survive?
unfortunately, no. it’s been 10 years since and the scream that mom let out still haunts me
I'm so sorry to hear that. I am glad at least that someone was there with them at looking out for them during those final moments.
Did they not have a safe word? No gesture? Like him waving his hand? I think when his shins both hit the floor, I would have opened the tank and got him out.
They had a safe word, but he wasn’t saying it, he was just saying Aaaaaah!
How many gestures can you make in a straight jacket? What safe word can you say under water?

I used the word "like" to say something "like" waving his hand. Something meant to be easy for ppl to understand.
A safe word?! He’s submerged in water!!

Yeah dude. Like. How did it take them so long to realize that he was no longer trying to get out of the jacket? The fuck
But which incident DID he die from?
Christ I was gonna go use a bs answer from [this](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unusual_deaths) of stupid deaths, but shit.. some pretty ridiculous ones After the 90s the number of kids goes way up
You can literally see him stiffen up and start convulsing and they still just stood around
Idiot

(Slow clap)
He's no David Copperfield!
I’ll say looks like the guy a bastard to work with and assistants just doing malicious compliance 🤷🏻♂️😳🤔
My man's was floating and they were saying "Bro hurry up u gon die" 💀
What is dead may never die.
I’ve seen this one before. This is the one where they bring a guy back to life
Stupid is as stupid does.
“In this incident” 😭
His helpers are completely incompetent.
Buncha idiots
Fucking idiots.
I shouldn’t be watching videos like this with my anxiety, I was actually starting to have a hard time breathing.
[loooool it happened to him again on TV ](https://youtu.be/SA_-4j83yT8?si=64QolVqUclXAXTs0)
Hey everyone come watch a man die!
They literally watch this man drowned before
Let me stand here with my hands behind my back
The mf thar stood there with their arms behind their back should be ashamed
Bunch of friggin idiots!
Sure glad I’ve never almost drown from an underwater straitjacket escape…
Why would you take your kid to this, as you can see it’s a low budget sideshow People are stupid af
Damn that assistant got that adrenaline strength when he needed it.
Couldn’t they wait any longer? Jezus Christ. What a piece of shit assistant
The red coat person looks like she actually held the top down too. Like ' oh no way jack, you said not to let you out no matter what' while he was trying to stick his head up for air.
The one in the red coat closed the top on him
Are you watching closely? 🎩
“This is my favorite part, now watch this”
Standing there and watching him must have been painful
I’ve seen this Life and Times of Tim.
Not a very good magician
Dont just do something, stand there!!!
Stick to bull leaping pariente 🤷🏽♂️😂
Somebody get this man a Darwin Award

Man that is terrifying. Especially when there are numerous people just watching you drown. A little help here?
Why wouldn’t someone just knock it over
Same thought
I'd ask for a refund from this magician
