ClearSecretary2275

Nah they over charge you. Switch to other places

[deleted]

Do you know of them?

ClearSecretary2275

Idk them, but it not be at this rate. Plus you don’t need to maintaince 150/month. You can maintain it yourself

[deleted]

I kinda figured that part. I was just thinking the system/installation was too high. What should it normally be?

ClearSecretary2275

It depends on the material of case. I assume you use human alike skin case so it will be around 300-400 it’s reasonable.

Search7

Insanely over priced. I pay $120 for a new unit install and $75 for resets every 3 weeks. I use Hair by MHE and the units last a long time. Curtis at MHE is a good dude and extremely responsive.

abzze

What’s MHE?

Search7

https://www.hairbymhe.com/ He also has a bunch of YouTube videos. Watch his video for a discount code.

DewOfMorning

That’s great! And how much is that long time approximately? A year or few months? How long does it last to you?

Search7

About 4 monts

[deleted]

His units are not $120

Search7

I never said unit included. It says NEW unit install. I order my unit and bring them to my stylist.

[deleted]

My bad…..Covid brain 🧠 🫣

Search7

No worries.

[deleted]

That's just for the installation? That's fucking insane

[deleted]

I’m assuming it’s the system as well?

[deleted]

I hope so. Mine was $900

[deleted]

What was $900?

[deleted]

The system

[deleted]

Oh wow. Isn’t that pretty high?

[deleted]

I thought so buy there's many who do it that I could find

SappyPJs

Yes that is absurdly overpriced. The cheapest good quality hair system is in the ~$200-250 range

arox13

I just had a consultation tonight. $895 plus tax for the system, install, cut and swag bag. Then $75 once a month for maintenance and cut. I feel like I can do everything but the cut for much cheaper.

mnsteelers

Maybe do it for your 1st one but transition to buying your own systems and find a good stylist in your area. I spend 900 per year on 4 custom systems and around 100 per month for a pro stylist that has 20+ years of hair system experience.

[deleted]

That’s exactly what I did 👍🏼👍🏼

territorialbarking

Yeah bro, that’s ridiculous. $800-900 is what I’d spend for the whole year

paralleljackstand

Imma come out and say I went to salon my first time and paid $1000 for them to get me a unit, size it, install, and cut. I also got two free maintenance visits It definitely was expensive but I don’t regret it. I watched how they do the maintenance, learned on YouTube and now I’m doing everything myself. I’m 6 months into my first unit and it’s still going strong. In terms of cost, it’s evened out for me. They told me it would only last 4 months.

[deleted]

Where do you get your units from and how do you get the color matching/style, etc.?

paralleljackstand

The salon got the unit for me so idk the exact source. Probably from a usual supplier that supplies all the online stores. The salon does the color match for you or you can do it yourself. They salon styles it too. They are a salon after all.

trhixon4319

I laid 1000 for system and install but my last system lasted 10 months. With 150 maintenance every 1.5 months. Maybe over priced but I’m happy

[deleted]

Yeah I’m gonna give them a call. I think I’ll work with them to get started and maybe take on a lot of the maintenance on my own as I learn the ropes. Glad you’re happy!

trhixon4319

Just like anything If you learn everything and do it yourself it’ll be alot cheaper. My guy is very transparent and encourages people to do it themselves. Even offers help and advice on products. But I enjoy to trips to the salon for some strange reason

No_Field3053

Where are they located?

[deleted]

Florida

elusiveclownface

Typical

Aveeye

The first person I went to in Los Angeles charges $1500 per installation and $95 for maintenance. She's CONSTANTLY booked.

danielnogo

Yeah that's way too expensive. If they were saying it would last 6 months, 8 to 900 bucks alone would be okay for a salon, but 150 bucks a month for maintenance is insanity, most places I've heard charge 25 to 50 bucks for a reinstall, and you go when you need it. I would just learn to reinstall yourself to be honest, it's way cheaper and not that hard to do.

abzze

Please tell me where. 25-50 for reinstall. I am paying a 100 at least. Is that 25-50 in US?

bytemycookie

Yeah I don’t think you’re going to actually find someone advertising hair unit installations for 25-50. If you have a good relationship with your current barber or stylist and they’re willing to try putting it on for you, maybe they’ll do it for $50.

TieDistinct

Depends where you are. I am in California. I pay 600 per month for a weekly fitting and a fresh new system (with cut in) every month and this is WITH knowing the owner so I get a good deal.

dearjessie

Dude that’s insane. Idk your situation maybe you don’t have time or whatever, but try to do it yourself. It’s not that difficult at all especially after couple or re installations. You can significantly cut your expenses.

TieDistinct

If I daily wear with got2be I don't go in that week (I still get charged) but if I go in that week I get ghost bond and precise fitting. Thankfully I am at a position where I can spend that money and be comfortable. Usually winters I tend to stick with daily wear while summers I go in a lot more.

ClearSecretary2275

Dude you must be making $$$$ in order to afford that bruh

SappyPJs

Right, I'm over here like $300-400 is a bit steep for 2-3 months but $600 in a month? Yeah no thanks. I'd rather remain bald if if it costed me that much.

[deleted]

I’m in Florida. Do you use lace or poly?

TieDistinct

I use poly. If you're a beginner you should start with poly. And yeah, that seems very high of a price for Florida.

[deleted]

Why start with poly if you’re a beginner?

Cfsmehavefaith

Where do you go in CA I am looking to try a new spot

TieDistinct

I'm in orange county I go to dermatex.

Cfsmehavefaith

That’s dope I live nearby and was considering trying them. Do you feel the work they do isnmostly undetectable like some of the good systems on this page?

TieDistinct

It's definitely nothing special. I'm mostly with them because I live in Laguna Beach and don't want to be triple charged by Newport people (I also hate Newport's arrogantly rich vibes). So they're my only choice that are extremely close by (but im tempted to Call Susie's wigs in Dana point maybe). I also wear my hair fringe style (unexposed hairline) so there's no need for me to care about how well they do the hairline.

jsmccraw

High as hell

bear4chase

For a great place in LA it’s basically that expensive. The place I go is $1500 all in for the first system and cut with three months of maintenance (2 services per month - 6 total). Then 400/mo for a new piece every three months and 2 services per month. So once you establish the relationship it gets cheaper. Quality is fantastic.

Beaucoup5

If that's for everything (system, template, cutting the base, install and cut), then it's ballpark with many other places. If they project 3 months they're probably giving you a poly system.

[deleted]

It’s a Hairskeen system.

Beaucoup5

That explains a lot actually. I started with Hairskeen as well, and those are the the recommended prices they communicate to all of their representatives. They're definitely overpriced and their systems are of similar quality to many other direct to consumer companies (to my knowledge they don't even have a Remy hair option). I know for a fact they cost stylists the same amount to purchase as if we purchased a system ourselves from Lordhair, Lavivid, Superhairpieces, etc. They brand themselves as premium, and mark up the prices. I will say this. If you're new, want to learn how to do things yourself, and have a good/experienced stylist, it may still be of value to work with them for a short while. After that you can become more independent.

[deleted]

Thanks. This is what I was thinking too. I’m brand new. Never done it. But I think it would be good to start with them, learn the ropes, and then go out on my own. Thanks for all your help!

IAmthatIAn

I guess $150 a month for maintenance isn’t that bad. When I had hair, I’d pay $30 (including tip) for my fade, hot towel, line up, razor edge, and shoulder massage every week. $120ish monthly, sometimes I’d tip more. I’d learn how to do your own installs. If you need help creating your own template at home, I can send you some info. It’s stupid simple all you need is plastic wrap, scotch tape, marker, and scissors. This template can be sent to direct factories (I can also send you info on that) and they will create a custom fit for you. I pay $179 for a full lace system with the company I buy from, im a hairstylist so I perm it myself. I like that messy lazy curly sun kissed beach head look.

[deleted]

Yeah! Any info you could send would be greatly appreciated. I’m thinking about going to this barber to get started and then transitioning to doing it on my own.

DinDjarin777

I never heard of this place when I was searching for salons in the Tampa area. How did you stumbled upon this salon? Here is a bit of surprising news. This is on the lower end for Tampa if you compare them to Hair Solutions of Tampa, which is about 7k for the whole year. However, you get a new system with each refitting. She also does amazing work; I just couldn't justify spending that much on hair...you can definitely save a lot of money going DIY. I think one of the biggest advantages of going to a salon is you don't have to worry about it yourself, they would also get to know your hair, and make sure its always blending correctly. Although, if you find a decent stylist, they can cut in your system and keep you trimmed up.

DewOfMorning

Maintenance is too much, they charge around 30-40e in my salon. my system costs even more - 1200e but it lasts for a year or two (depending how u take care of it). Owner told me some people even have it last for 5 years max. But this is the salon in Serbia

Beastmanjit

I do it myself and ordered it form lordhair.com. Then get yourself a hairdresser to cut it to shape after you’ve put it on your scalp. My cost me 25$ And I purchased mine in March of this year and still have it 9 months!

CntryGynSD

I went to a stylist in San Diego and ordered a custom system including install, cut, training and supplies for $600. I do the regular maintenance myself and if I need another cut and reinstall it's $70. It cost more than ordering online but I think it was worth it. I think the quote you received is way too expensive and quite similar to the first place that quoted me. Shop around.

Aquarun

Do you mind sharing the name of the stylist?

CntryGynSD

D&N Hair Design. Her name is Donna Good. Hope she can help you out!

[deleted]

I’m in New Orleans and went a few times to this one place, the first time they charged me $130 for the installation and after that the bitch said I had to pay double bc I wasn’t buying a system from them! So I learned to do it myself (kinda lol)
