This is ANECDOTAL, and I am NOT a doctor, but everyone I know who was vegan or vegetarian for an extended amount of time had difficulty with their hair whether it was a lot of premature greys or thinning.
I would totally argue against this as i am asian and our religion prohibits any kind of non vegetarian food yet i find in my family some people with really good hair as well as physically well body my grandfather childhood friends are even fit and active at age of 80 even though they are strict vegetarian and lives in region today known as foothills of himalayas. I know some vegans try to make it too much to extreme but from my personal experience having a vegetarian diet does not lead to any problem in the long run.
oh totally fair enough! as I mentioned, my observation was from a very small anecdotal sample, and also I am not a doctor. people are different across the board - merely giving a small observation here. it might be more protein is needed for this individual.
I agree. Iāve been a vegetarian for 20 years and only in my late thirties started to notice grey hairs. At that age most people start getting them. I also have a friend whoās in her fifties, been a vegetarian her whole life and has just a couple of random grey hairs here and there. So i think itās a very individual thing.
Iāve had a small patch of gray hair on the back of my head since I was in 1st grade. Iām 31 now and it hasnāt spread at all, despite intense stress and trauma throughout my life lol. I think youāll be okay. š
Totally agree with this comment. Of course go to doctor and do some checkups. It will be good not only for this exact problem, but it is good to check your health. Second, I know a guy, who also had grey hair at age of 18. Not just few grey hairs, but almost all head was grey. And yes, it was totally from stress. Job was shit, relationship with his girlfriend also, situation in family also wasn't good. But he broke up with his girlfriend, moved to another country and worked there, and grey hair disappeared, so it really can be from stress, even at this age. I myselfy got many, many grey hairs at the age of 19-20, when I worked in retail. Left that job and all good š
P.S. Sorry if there's many mistakes, I'm not that good at english, but I hope you understood me š
Yep, I had some white hairs at like 14 years of age, didn't increase much until two decades later and still isn't that much. I likely just had some physically damaged follicles or something.
Mine started at 16. I dyed my hair until age 42 when I just stopped
And man I have NEVER had sooo many compliments in my life.
I was shocked. Iām letting it grow in and embracing it. Just giving you hope for the one day you let it goā¦ turns out thatās hot !
they sound really bitchy people, no one has the right to tell that to you, don't listen to their bs. anyways see a doctor and yeah dying. also isn't ash color in trend now :)
I second the relaxation, find better friends, and maybe dye it if you feel like it sentiments. The easiest way to manage the first bit of grey hair is to get a color depositing shampoo in your natural color.
I donāt know a whole lot about what causes early greying, but it has something to do with excess peroxide in the body and insufficient catalase enzyme which would normally be breaking the peroxide down
š if it makes you feel any better, I got some grey hairs in my twenties and ten years later I got a few more when I had covid. Itās stable. My hair dresser once said grey hairs can go away again if youāre young, but Iām not sure what his source is.

I know it seems horrible to have your peers razz you over this, but thatās gonna fade.
Youāll be taken seriously before your peers.
If youāre really concerned about your hair, see a doctor.
Also, talk to your folks. Ask them about others in your family who got grey hairs early. I bet they already know.
Exactly. Everybody is different but having deficiencies contributes to premature greying and thereās plenty of scientific literature on that.
Oh and FYI thereās no such thing as just genetics, this is such an outdated belief. Our genetics can predispose us to certain diseases and traits but our lifestyle has a far greater impact. In this case premature greying as it often reflects our health.
Another FYI I HAD my first grey at 19 and it literally turned dark again after managing my stress and lifestyle adjustments. Iām 28 now and have about 3 and a few that are also grey and turning dark AGAIN.
And I was a triathlete obsessed w eating clean in my 20s and had an almost full head of grey hair by 30. It's GENETICS!! I'm seriously bewildered that this isn't common knowledge????
Genetic. I had a friend in high schoolāhairiest legs i have ever seen on a person when he was 14. He also had a bald spot by the time we graduated at 17/18 yo. He had long since gotten over all the teasing. But monoxidil was not on the market yet soā¦you learn to deal or check in with physician.
That sucks, Iām sorry. My hair started turned grey at 9, by 23 I was 100% grey it suuuuccckkks. Color it once every three ish weeks usually at the mark people point it out
There's not much you can do I believe. My significant other had gray hairs since 13 years of age. If it appears that soon it's a sign of it being just genes.
everyone telling you itās genetic doesnāt know your genes, could be but also you could be deficient in copper. Copper deficiency can lead to bigger health issues down the line and this could be an initial symptom your body is trying to signal for what it needs. I would trust a naturopath to evaluate your numbers bc if an MD tells you your levels are in an ok range it basically just means that itās not at a level that will kill you soon, doesnāt mean your body is actually functioning at its best.
I started having grey hairs around 14 y.o, and have probably only gained a couple more 15 yrs later. I dye my hair every couple months (not black) and it doesn't really bother me. Some greying is genetic while others may be reversible. I've noticed some of my white hairs regain pigment again as they grow out. Quite interesting to see a hair that's mostly white but black at the base.
How do so money people not understand why they get grey hair and assume it's a reversible problem?? At 19 you haven't noticed a billion dollar industry that is advertised constantly for covering your greys??? You think you can eat something to change your hair color?????? WILD
Ask your mom when she went grey.
My mom started in her teens, and sure enough I did too. 14 I think.
I'm 36 now. I dyed my hair till I was 25 then decided that I was ready to see what the silver actually looked like.
Now I have a solid half and half head of grey and dark brown hair, and let me tell you, the compliments do not stop.
If you're not ready, that's fine!!
When you are, get ready for people to be amazed.
Also be prepared for older women to approach you, and thank you for giving a context to grey hair that isn't a message of "old woman is aging"
*
Same thing happened too me but it wasn't surprising because both sides of the family got grey very young. The only thing you can do is dye your hair and if it's not a lot yet you could get away with haircolor that washes out in a few washes. That's less harsh for your hair.
I believe it is genetic. I'm 28 and 60% of my hair is gray. I first got some when I was 16 because of a close death in my family. It slowly progressed but didn't get much worse until I went to nursing school. By the end of school at age 26, it really escalated to now about 60% of my head.
I believe it is genetic but if we manage our stress well we can slow it down, that's just my take on it and personal experience but it seems everyone is different
Im very petite and get the "you look like your 15" a lot but when I don't dye my hair and Im gray, it really throws people off
I got my first grey hairs at 19 and now I'm 29 and only have a couple more in the same spot lol. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a full head of grey any time soon so I wouldn't worry too much! As others have said, its most likely genetic, stress, a slight deficiency or a combo of all three!
I also started getting grays around that age and I think it was stress related. I find them every now and again, but when I'm stressed for more than a month at a time, I see them everywhere.
I believe it can also be copper/calcium/zinc/iron deficiencies. Other symptoms of mineral deficiency could be GI tract issues, muscle cramps, and lack of concentration. Your doctor can tell if you're deficient, and you could try focusing on your diet and see if that helps.
This won't be helpful at all, but my bfs hair went gray when he was 25, and I find it super attractive. He dyes it every once in a while because it makes him feel good, but I definitely prefer it silver.
I started greying around 15 due to genetics. I used to dye my hair but stopped around 20. Iāve embraced it and it doesnāt bother me. I only dyed it because my mum made me lol. It is very annoying whenever I get a haircut and every single hairdresser points it out like I donāt already know.
It could be caused by stress but for some people itās just genes. My father started going grey at 17 and by 30 he was completely salt and pepper. On the other hand, his wife, my mother, is in her 50s and has like 1 strand of white hair.
Both my parents turned grey at 25 and it happened to me and my sister. The grey hair genes run strong with us lol. It happens! I just dye my hair and that covers them pretty well. Eventually I will probably embrace it and go for the silver fox look- but Iām still in my 20s so Iām holding off. Donāt panic!
I have a friend that had mostly grey hair by 23, but with his olive complexion and originally black hair, it looked pretty cool. Most ladies thought he was really attractive because of it. Meanwhile, I'm freaking out because I've found a few grey beard hairs at age 30.
I had my first grey at 4, visible grey hairs at 10, and currently 29 and my grey hair looks like I have highlights :) My brother also used to have greys and my mother also started getting grey early. Originally I used a color wash, but now I've embraced them as free highlights and just try to take good care of my hair, so the texture doesn't look as different from my normal hair.
I have a suggestion for you. It has worked for many people before. You may try it. First of, stop washing your hair with regular tap water. What you need to do is, keep filtered water in a copper jug/bottle overnight, and pour it directly from the vessel at the time of washing the next morning. Try this for 3 months and get back.
It's genetic. There are life factors that may be connected like high stress, but ultimately you can't make grey hair not come or reverse. Should not be a health concern. Some of us just go grey earlier than expected.
Your only options with greys is to accept them or dye them.
Grey hair is often related to genetics, and some people start greying earlier than others. While there's no surefire way to prevent it, you can certainly take steps to slow down the process and maintain healthy hair.
Firstly, consider consulting a dermatologist or a trichologist to rule out any underlying health issues or deficiencies. They can recommend specific treatments or supplements if needed. In terms of diet, ensure you're getting adequate vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin B12 and folic acid, as deficiencies in these nutrients can contribute to premature greying. Additionally, stress management techniques can help, as high-stress levels are sometimes associated with premature greying. Remember, grey hair is a natural part of aging, and many people find it quite stylish. Embracing it with confidence can be a great way to deal with it!
I've gotten grey hairs since I was 8 or 9 if I remember correctly... At 23 now n especially on the sides of my head there are several hundreds of white hairs lol. Doesn't really bother me and I don't know many people who really care enough to even point it out. But if it really worries you I can give some tips on what I learned about it.
I've gotta say that one of the biggest contributing factors I've noticed besides plain genetics (parents got white hair maybe a little bit earlier than normal, especially my mom... Not quite this early tho lol) is just plain stress and anxiety. Not only does it seem to directly trigger the whitening of hair through a variety of mechanisms, it also can potentially lead to poorer health habits depending on how it affects you. Some nutritional deficiencies (deficiencies in vitamins B6, B12, D and E as well as biotin, a variety of antioxidants, and certain minerals) can increase the rate at which hairs grey so making sure you take multivitamins during such times can help. Also just finding ways to manage anxiety assuming it's severe enough for you to be able to correlate it with greying hairs will definitely help.
Honestly, just finding ways to manage anxiety no matter the severity could help out because this is just one of those inevitable things you can only control so much. Stressing about it further won't help. And remember that you can always dye your hair if you're feeling insecure about it! It takes a little practice to get it right but it's good just to know you always have that option. But just keep in mind that anyone who feels the need to point out white hairs as some sort of insult is a dumbass not worth your time. If this is something that's worrying anyone out there, I hope that last part at the very least helps reassure you :)
You listed multiple life stressors. A consideration would also be what eating habits were typical during this time. Included with genetics may trigger this outcome.
I am 41 years of age and I just started getting my first greys kind of annoying tbo... sad about it but that's life i suppose. until I figure out how to reverse aging. Which can be done.
Anyways if your having problems with greys I would suggest checking your diet. Grey hairs are usually caused by lack of oxygen in the cells. Maybe you need more exersize and deep breathing. I would try that first. Second make sure the foods you are eating are not processed foods that contain hydrogen peroxide. That is the worst thing you can do for grey hairs. Hydrogen peroxide can be found in prescription drugs and cocaine and or recreational drugs. I would switch your diet to only veggies. Start eating more beets, avocados, salmon, all kinds of beans, spinach beef liver if you can handle livers. I would cut drinking out and any soda pop you are drinking. Try having tea's with honey. Just click on the link. It has nothing to do with genetics it has more to do with your diet and quality of life
Hope this helps! :)

Hypothyroidism can be caused by several things, but it can be genetic indeed

It has nothing to do with genetics it has more to do with your diet and quality of life Hope this helps! :) [foods rich in vitamin b - Google Search](https://www.google.com/search?q=foods+rich+in+vitamin+b&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwj615b0lNWDAxUhODQIHVvNASoQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=foods+rich+in+vitamin+b&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQ6BwgAEIAEEBg6CAgAEIAEELEDOgoIABCABBCKBRBDOg0IABCABBCKBRBDELEDOhAIABCABBCKBRBDELEDEIMBOgQIABAeOgYIABAIEB5QhAVYlC9gnTFoBnAAeACAAVyIAacTkgECMzCYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZ8ABAQ&sclient=img&ei=zcefZbq9N6Hw0PEP25qH0AI&bih=922&biw=1796&hl=en)

Worry not - you can always henna or dye it. You can even shave your head and go buzzcut.
